To the Alpha M defenders repeatedly telling me 'he said it was just a joke video' etc. Of course, he's going to claim it's a joke once the content gets a backlash, and people start calling him out for what he's doing. What did you expect? To me, it didn't come across as a joke video in the slightest; just a bunch of paid lies. It's a shame it's come to this. Also, on his Tiege Hanley channel, he didn't reference it being a joke, just that he was preparing a 'controversial video' - he only talked about it being tongue-in-cheek afterwards. Open your eyes people.

Happy to see tho a great lad as you are that is uploading some very valuable content (which some people might like it or not, but this is not really the point). Keep up the good work mate

Hmm. Is that really true? I mean, a CFO isn't going to say buying a Rolex is a terrible investment. Part of Rolex's sales pitch is they are investment watches, so of coarse he's going to say that. They hold some value better than other watches, but to suggest you could buy a Rolex that cost, say five grand, and you will actually make money when you sell it, seems a bit much. Occasionally you might luck out and make money because you have a watch that is highly desired for whatever reason, but most of the time you're going to lose money when you factor in inflation.

It’s a shame because Aaron’s channel used to be solely focused on teaching fashion to his subscribers. The current state of his channel just shows the corruption of money and greed
Holy cow! Some years before I used to watch alpha. As a stupid pre-teen I tough his content was quality and revolutionary. Now after this I went back and watched some of the videos I considered good and MY GOD I was hella stupid. I'm glad this type of content on youtube still has people like you in it. I honestly am really into fashion these days and finding good honest people on youtube that not only make good content but also fight for what is right is rather refreshing. I know this video is a little outdated but friend YOU JUST GAINED A SUB.
Nailed it (again). Every single video Aaron puts out is because he was paid to promote something. He throws in fashion tips every now and then but he's 70-80% an advertiser.
@@unknowninfinium4353 Yep, Antonio is also being sponsored by crap watchmakers and gives similar bad advice in regard to watches (and I regard to some shoe brands as well).
@@jonstern7511 yes him too with Thursday Boots ads, no offense I do like their boots but thinking now, maybe his audience is the average joe(me included) but he doesn't advice to save up for a good boot, shoe, clothes, ect. You know, the kind that will last you years to come.
@Pyrusperseus, Eh....how do you think youtubers make their money? First off do you think the majority do youtube videos for the good of the people? The answer is NO. They do it to make money via Direct Sponsors or Indirectly via youtube and some will just E-Beg for your money where "you" end up being the Sponsor.
Hey mate, I could already be a sellout right now, with the number of sponsor offers I'm getting (and usually rejecting). So really, you don't have to worry. Anything I recommend goes through a strict vetting process
Ben Arthur I'm sure you won't see this comment since this is an older vid, but I just subscribed to you today due to your honesty and loyalty to truth! So in case you see this, you gained a sub from this guy right here
I once liked alpha m but all of his videos are sponsored and he sold himself to all this company and the sad thing is that many of his viewers are so naïve and think that those brands are good and buy this shit...
I wonder how much these crap Watch companies pay these people. There’s a car guy I’ve seen TGE who has a killer Watch collection, Patek, vintage Tudor & Rolex etc and he does these ads for Vincero (god even the name brings up a bit of sick).
This is absolutely damaging to Alpha's brand. I was going to order a lot of his skincare and hair products. Then the MVMT video comes out and left me wondering if everything else he promotes is crap too. So, I'll be just going somewhere else for that stuff. Thanks for the video on calling Alpha out on his bullshit practices and sneaky behavior.
Samuel Meredith I used his skincare products for a few months, they are pretty good. But in my opinion, you can get products from brands like Bulldog which are cheaper and have the same effect. And some things he says are unnecessary, like that you need a moisturizer with SCF or that you need 2 moisturizer (one in the morning, one in the evening). You can, but it’s just not that much of a difference if you don’t.
God...you NAILED IT, Samuel. Same here. I was going to order his skin care line, but then I started seeing is methods. That guy will try to talk you into anything. Doesn't matter the quality. His skin care product and the Pete & Pedro products might be okay....but I'll never know. Because he lost credibility with me. I unsubscribed and I don't watch him anymore. I can learn about chino's and chukka boots and Thursday Boots and dark blue jeans and sport coats from a myriad of other quality channels. He doesn't even go that deep into the real in's and out's or history of clothing. His fitness advice (something I DO know a lot about) is horribly off the mark, and I've written comments on his site letting him know how messed up it is. And he's a gym owner....eesshh. Yeah, he really fell out of favor with me.
Thanks. I appreciate the recommendation. I checked out some of your videos (You have a new subscriber), and looked on your website. You have a big variety of stuff. I'll make an order and try out some things. I even see you have a dog shampoo. So, I gotta give that one a go.
That could be why he went $500,000 in debt with his gym. I know a bit about fitness as well and much of what he would say just doesn't hold up. Even contradicting himself. And when called out on it, he would seem annoyed. At this point I just think he's really good at pretending to be the nice guy. When in reality he's just another money grubbing business man. I unsubscribed also.
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who wanted to call out the bullshit this weekend! 🙌🏻 This was a great video and needed to be put out there. This shit is getting out of control.
I think these big menswear RUclipsrs think they’re audiences are clueless to fashion that they can sell them anything without them knowing it’s not a great deal
Im 100% sure the audience of this Alpha M guy consists of swaggy teenagers with both hands in their pocket trying to act like men. This Aaron guy is like 40 and acting like a 20 year old swaggy college boy shopping from donlemme.com. These channels have nothing to do with men's fashion. Im glad that there are channels exposing bullshit.
When I first got into Mens style I watched videos like Alpha M and Teaching Men's fashion. I even went as far as buying a brand that they recommended. Oh, boy was I wrong! The watch, first of all, came with the crappiest shipping available. Eventually, after 3 months, it arrived in some beautiful packaging. The hype died extremely quickly with the bezel which fell out in a week then the glass soon afterward. I was so disappointed with everything. Since then I bought a Timex Weekender, Casio, Seiko's and Tissot. I really learned my lesson from that experience and if you reading this don't fall the hype there are much better watches under $100 which you will be proud to wear. Stay away from MVMT, Vincero, and original crap!
Vincero might be the only watch brand they have promoted that isn't total garbage. A little over priced maybe but I've had one for almost 3 years now and the only thing that's happened after all this time of daily wear is the strap is starting to wear out.
If the video was titled with "Orient/Seiko is better than Rolex" and the video wouldn't have been controversial. Watch enthusiasts would have even agreed with Aaron.
I called him out on his bullshit and had many likes because of it. What really burns me is that the video prior to the MVMT vs Rolex, he talked about being a man is all about being genuine. I called him out and said that selling product for your video sponsor isn’t genuine at all.
Lolly Yep. There I countless times I disagree with him but I still love the guy even tho sometimes he goes a bit far when he said Petek Philippe was over priced and recommended Vincero insted.
His videos are 2/3 an ad for some shit i would never buy. His videos are mostly Like 5 tips. 4 of them are a minute long and then he starts talking about his sponsor for 4 minutes. He is a cool dude and All but he is such a sellout.
His content has gone downhill majorly the past half year which isn't surprising because he's busy with his other companies like P&P and TH. Most of his content is unoriginal and re-uploaded in a new format to fill space around the sporsor-segment.
@@lolly4961 That video says a lot about his personality, and respect for his channel's credibility. He's a complete sellout, I discovered his channel like 2 months ago, loved the content, latest videos have been recycled trash and now I'm unsubbed
I nearly bought a MVMT watch a long while ago (as my first watch ever) but I did some research online and stumbled across your first video reviewing MVMT. You turned me away from the brand and I picked up a Timex a day later. Thank you for the honest content!
Fifth watches from my experience one of best designer watches nowadays! I have been rocking it since 3 years trust me dude it looks just as new! I am not sponsored lmao!
Yeah, but keep in mind that in certain conditions (like at school) you can't just pull a phone out so you need an alternative method of telling you the time. Now THERE a watch is a good idea. (I'm talking from experience.)
No shock is it? His videos are almost 70% advert now. You can tell by the title who's the advertiser, infact, when watching I can predict when his next sentect is going to be ''which bring us to our videos sponsor....'
Agreed on all points. It is, however, difficult for us Americans to purchase any stainless steel Rolex (Subs/GMTs/Explorers) due to a supply bottleneck, presumably deliberate from up high.
@@jamesrodriguez5696 Sean did not recommended that anyone should buy a MVMT watch, what he did was just pointing out that there is a shortage of stainless steel Rolex watches and long waiting lists for certain models.
Just buy Invicta. If you want high dollar high end buy a used swiss made tourbillion or a Patek Phillip or a Vacheron Constantin . New Rolex is overpriced. You want 18kt Gold? Buy a heavy Piaget or Bueche Girod watch.
It is kinda funny. This guy takes advertising revenue to advertise 5 dollar Chinese watches that have a 5000 percent mark up. Then he takes that cashola and buys a Rolex. Here's an ethical conundrum. Would you rather be a MVMT salesperson wearing a Rolex...or a Rolex salesperson wearing a MVMT? Sometimes life doesn't give us easy answers.
Its funny how these fashion brands try to sway the consumers by their "we can't afford nice watches so we built these" like they are slaving off to give us great value. 😂 There are tons of great value watches from very respectable brands for very affordable prices like Seiko, Timex, Citizen, etc. In my circle guys who own multiple rolex watches still drool over a nice Seiko 5 or an Orient Bambino. Its not really all about snobbery.
I was actually working on a blog post talking about how much I hate dropshipping watches and the whole hype behind them created by influencers. Really respect what you did Ben, greetings from Mexico.
@@creedbratton2094 those companies won't have even one customer if he doesn't promote them in his videos...so RUclips is his bigger business.. And he sucks at it not only him all the people in his niche like Jose , blumaan, Alex Costa etc. They have got nothing new to produce so they keep repititive content every freaking day....Alex quit his google job to put boring repetitive content on RUclips, I mean who does that?
Drastic Gamers TV Alex does a lot of style videos where he just showcases looks and his sponsors are pretty tame. I don’t hate much on him, but he might be cheap in the future.
I finally unsubbed from Alpha and Teachingmensfashion because it was obvious they were both making video titles based on some data driven algorithm (perhaps the same one). 7 ways women are disgusted by you, 10 ways men repel women, 8 things women love on a man over and over again from both channels. First off, I thought these were fashion channels. I got out of my pick up artist phase when I was 22. secondly like I said above, the data driven patterns in clickbait titling are obvious and the content is repetitive and empty. It's possible to use algorithms on youtube to make money without becoming a steaming pile of content farm bullshit.
@@BenArthur Yep. And I even understand using data to improve viewership and make more money (7 HandM outfits? sign me up!). I'd do that too, but not at the expense of content and not to the level where title patterning is meaningless and transparent and I feel insulted by even clicking on them.
Its sad. I genuinely think alpha is a cool dude but this is a bit ridiculous. He already makes a lot of money from his companies. I wouldn't mind if he was actually recommending good life changing products but its not right to be recommending trash as an "expert"
I really wish there were more youtubers like you. You are honest, straightforward and you really want to help your audiences. Thank you Ben, you're amazing
Ben this video came in my recommendation and man, you got yourself a sub. 1- I never was a watch guy but then got into it, mainly because of UrbanGentry, great channel. After watching it i found a new found bond towards watches (Like cars ;)) something about wearing a timepiece man, not for the attention although that's a plus but it gets very personal. When you address the issue i only can say you have strong moral and ethics intact and they will carry you well as a man. 2- Timepieces with heritage it gives us a piece of history, the story it tells and how far we have come. 3- Addressing the "Availability" i can buy a Rolex on a retail watch outlet, Rolex retail outlet, channel partner of Rolex even Omegas for that matter. Movements? never saw a dedicated retail outlet for them, nor any partners, nor any shop for that matter. 4- About the money, when you get into timepieces you start to view life as a journey, so now i can and am planning to buy a Seiko 5 sng16k1 followed by Casio Gwm5610-1. My dream watches are of course the Rolex, Omega Seamaster which i will own one day. So you see the journey aspect really changes perspective. 5- When you wear a Rolex you be extra careful about it, would you leave your keys in a 1967 Shelby gt500? or a modern Bentley? 6- Plus its not negative, its standing up for yourself. Men do that. 7- "I mean to make myself a man, and if I succeed in that, I shall succeed in everything else" - James A Garfield. Take care Ben and thank you, best regards to you and your journey.
Alpha was paid to advertise. Ben is so damn right. It sounded like a kindergarten joke when he said " MVMT has better heritage than Rolex". #wakemeupifiweredreaming #Alphascam 🔥🤔
Same here for sure, people think I hate sponsorships. I actually don't at all, so long as basic morals (like not lying) are adhered to. Aaron was just stupid to make this video and ever think it was a good idea
@@BenArthur That's true. Would you mind checking out my channel Ben? I have just started my channel. It's about social experiment, travelling, eating and style. I have subscribed you for couple years. I love your honesty. :)
This is the video that finally got me to unsubscribe from Alpha M. I used to like his content but lately it just seems like he gets a sponsored products then he makes a video around it. His videos are so low effort that he doesn't even have an outro. They just end abruptly.
I unsubscribed to TMF about 6 months ago and Alpha M after this video. Both of them becoming faker by the day, it’s so cringe worthy listening to them. Alex costa I really like but even he has started advertising TMF essentials t shirts, he should have just kept independent and stayed away from those guys
My own observation is that the progression seems to be fashion tips (good) to list of morning routine and lifestyle tips (meh? usually useless and generic) to conversation tips (useless ones, eye contact? be confident? really?) and then the sign the end is near is when it's suddenly dozens of how to talk to women or impress women titles. This seems to be the pattern.
I'm with you 100% for the exact same reasons. I used to love Alpha M and TMF was okay but the sponsorship is too high. I get that these guys run a business and need to make money so I don't mind a sponsor when it makes sense but when it's a literal commercial full of lies I'm done.
It's such a brazen conflict of interest, and source of inevitable dishonesty, when any channel that purports to give objective commentary on consumer products is itself funded by specific brands of those products. If you ask me, fashion RUclipsrs should think about trying to get sponsors from outside the fashion realm entirely.
50yr later, the rolex guy's great great grand son will sell it with double price while the mvmt guy won't be able to sell even after 2year.. no one will take it for free.
Rolex are not hard to come by, I looked at them in my local jewelers, they had dozens on display. They must be paying him a fortune to state this rubbish. I like your honesty Ben.
@@Parocha disagree with The Urban Gentry. he's too calculated, constructed and rides the heritage of his ancestors. his video production and script is good tho. I prefer the plain content a delivery without any BS about anything (heritage, whoiam etc). I don't see any hidden agenda in Ben's or MrSmelly's videos. they share passion and opinions, observations. MrSmelly has a wicked humour too.
I'm an assistant to a Rolex watchmaker in a authorized dealer in Texas and while some models are hard to get, most Rolex models are not hard to get. At least where I work
And here is another bit of advice you will learn... If you buy a high end Lux Watch avoid TAG. Now pay me for saving you a major hassle and waste of money.
I love how you are so honest and passionate about this sort of thing. Before I saw your last video, I thought that MVMT was a good budget company, but boy was I wrong. MVMT needs to be exposed for this kind of thing and people need to be informed so they don't get ripped off. Great video, keep up the good content!
As of this comment, Alpha has 158k views on his video and Ben has 121k views on his. Pretty amazing when you consider Alpha has 4.6 million subscribers and Ben has 62,000.
Everything he says about MVMT can be said of Timex, who invented the quartz watch and sell them at half the price or less. You can find a MVMT-style watch from Timex for $30.
I almost bought a MVMT watch but thank god I did more research and found your channel and others that called MVMT on their shit and giving me other options that correspond to why I was interested in MVMT for better quality
Same here kind of. Alpha originally had me set on a Vincero which isn't as bad as MVMT but it's still not great. I bought a Seiko instead. I currently have 3 Seikos and am going to be getting another Seiko as well as an Orient. I also have a cheap Casio beater if that counts :)
It's relieving to see someone finally exposing Aaron. Back in 2016 I actually used to be a fan of Aaron. I was a teenager and I legit saw him as a fatherly figure. With his personality its easy for him to lure ignorant people into believing everything he say's. I stopped watching him when I realized companies were paying this sellout to promote their products. I got furious. The fact that he preys on the insecurities of weak individuals for financial gain is outrageous and disappointing. And the sad thing is, it's not only him. Other "Fashionista" RUclipsrs are exactly the same. Sure you might be getting rich but at what expense? The expense of others? What a bunch of cowards. Jose Zuniga is exactly the same. All pieces of shit, scamming their way into wealthiness. RUclips aint the same no more.
@@et5895 But heres the difference. Say a completely different content creator; a comedian. Puts an advertisement in his/her video. Just like in TV people know that their will be advertisements in their content. So people are okay with it. Whats so unethical about Fashionistas doing it is not so much the fact that their advertising. Its the fact that the entire video will revolve around the advertisement itself making it basically one long big advertisement disguised as a "manual" on man related topics. They go so far as to making it seem like you NEED the product to be cool, handsome, loved, etc. Thats whats so bad compared to others. The intent of monetization and wealth. These You Tubers are practically releasing videos on what you should buy next. Their fanbase is practically divided into two; 50% compulsive buyers who believe you cant achieve much withought the right "products". and the other 50% who are ignorant people who dont realize their getting fooled. I don't mind people getting their money, it pays well, I understand that. It's not worth the watch for me though. There needs to be Adblock for content like that. Lol
One of the problems too with his channel -- putting aside the sponsored videos -- is that he only promotes tailoring that he thinks looks good on him. He has a very narrow understanding of style actually.
THANK YOU. I think this is a huge sigh of relief for all of us as an audience who have been trying to say “stop!” with every single video turning into an endorsement. This seriously needed to be said by someone with a platform.

After seeing these points, i want him to compare MVMT to brands like Seiko or Orient 1. Heritage? What innovation has MVMT done? Contribution to history? To human advancements? None. Point go to Seiko 2. Quality? Unless ur a fan of strap that turn to shit in 1 year, plastic look case, shitty low quality dials, zero quality control..imma have to give the point to Seiko. Oh Quartz is better than Automatic? Seiko has em, hell, they pioneered quartz. And you can get em for 50 bucks 3. Affordability? HAH. Seiko costs less AND has better specs 4. Accessibility? Walk in to any shopping mall, boom, Seiko. Search the internet, boom, Seiko. MVMT? Unless u live in the states, expect 4 months shipping with ridiculous cost for it to get to you 5. Freak the fuck out factor? Since Seikos of similar specs are cheaper, nobody's gonna give a fuck if they lose em. Hell, id freak the fuck out if i know 300 bucks is missing from my pocket in exchange of a plastic wristband on my wrist Seiko 5 - 0 MVMT

Went from Mens Fashion to QVC. This is coming from someone who used to watch him for years.
I think Aaron bought a new Rolex from the money Movement gave him for the video
Thanks Sergio, means a lot!
Nailed it (again). Every single video Aaron puts out is because he was paid to promote something. He throws in fashion tips every now and then but he's 70-80% an advertiser.
And Antonio is going down that line too...
@@jonstern7511 Wait Antonio too? i stopped Alpha because of the ads but man not Antonio, he had some great content.
Who gives a shit. Stop worrying about someone's hustle.

I liked Alpha once, but now EVERY video needs a sponsor. Just one long commercial....
I was the same, there's no subtlety to it either, it's just ham-fisted selling for the entire video.

It’s because of shark tank...

Please Ben don't sell out like these guys when your channel grows up🙏
Hey mate, I could already be a sellout right now, with the number of sponsor offers I'm getting (and usually rejecting). So really, you don't have to worry. Anything I recommend goes through a strict vetting process

Plot twist: this video was sponsored by movement.
Mvmt was surprised..probably told Aaron to calm the fuck down lol
ZosoJuan it would make more sense if it was sponsored by Rolex.
I once liked alpha m but all of his videos are sponsored and he sold himself to all this company and the sad thing is that many of his viewers are so naïve and think that those brands are good and buy this shit...
Dejan most of his viewers are indian dudes who know nothing about “style”
Alpha M will not be rocking a MVMT watch in private. He will be rocking Rolex.
Even if you just check out Alphas IG, only rolexes can be seen on his hand on those pictures where are hands shown with watch.
I wonder how much these crap Watch companies pay these people. There’s a car guy I’ve seen TGE who has a killer Watch collection, Patek, vintage Tudor & Rolex etc and he does these ads for Vincero (god even the name brings up a bit of sick).
Lmao, Alpha M is a sleazy businessman.
Did this really surprise anyone? His whole channel is a big ad
@Ulysses Joyce you hate fashion? And yeah its terrible how big those channels get unlike the smaller channels that have valuable content.
Ulysses Joyce fashion can be a form of expressing individualism... but i feel you
@@mat6522 he gotta express that individualism by not expressing it through fashion. pretty epic
@Ulysses Joyce are you obese by any chance?
I love how Alpha M knows his soul is sold so at the comments section he said "Be gentle gentlemen"
Unsubbed long ago. He recycles the same shit from vid to vid, the only difference being more sponsors.
and his fanbase is just moronic.
Samuel Meredith I actually have my own face moisturizer called FACES if interested
TDM Style .... Your video was great also! I enjoyed watching it greatly! WTG Matt!

Exactly why I unsubbed from Alpha M. Silly opinions, shovelware videos. It's like Buzzfeed, quantity vs quality.
I got 2 Vinceno watches an the quality for $120 is awesome, plus they look great. No complaints with them. The other 2 brands are complete ass lol.
Vincero might be the only watch brand they have promoted that isn't total garbage. A little over priced maybe but I've had one for almost 3 years now and the only thing that's happened after all this time of daily wear is the strap is starting to wear out.

His videos are 2/3 an ad for some shit i would never buy. His videos are mostly Like 5 tips. 4 of them are a minute long and then he starts talking about his sponsor for 4 minutes. He is a cool dude and All but he is such a sellout.

Agreed on all points. It is, however, difficult for us Americans to purchase any stainless steel Rolex (Subs/GMTs/Explorers) due to a supply bottleneck, presumably deliberate from up high.
Sean Cheng then don’t buy a rolex, but something else other than shitty mvmt watches.
@@jamesrodriguez5696 Sean did not recommended that anyone should buy a MVMT watch, what he did was just pointing out that there is a shortage of stainless steel Rolex watches and long waiting lists for certain models.

Was just in the Rolex store in San Francisco. I was told it was about a 6 month wait for a stainless steel sports model.

£265!!! For another £100, I got myself a Hamilton on offer of the same style.

Holy shit. I got a midroll of a MVMT ad!
Tmf Looks and feels so fake now that I can't watch it .Alpha is going downhill
I unsubscribed for similar reasons.

2. Quality? Unless ur a fan of strap that turn to shit in 1 year, plastic look case, shitty low quality dials, zero quality control..imma have to give the point to Seiko. Oh Quartz is better than Automatic? Seiko has em, hell, they pioneered quartz. And you can get em for 50 bucks
3. Affordability? HAH. Seiko costs less AND has better specs
4. Accessibility? Walk in to any shopping mall, boom, Seiko. Search the internet, boom, Seiko. MVMT? Unless u live in the states, expect 4 months shipping with ridiculous cost for it to get to you
5. Freak the fuck out factor? Since Seikos of similar specs are cheaper, nobody's gonna give a fuck if they lose em. Hell, id freak the fuck out if i know 300 bucks is missing from my pocket in exchange of a plastic wristband on my wrist
Seiko 5 - 0 MVMT
