I think I am about to receive some hate but I can't stand Seiko or Casio. I use to like Casio before the world of watches opened up to me. They do keep good time and Casio is very durable but despite them being well made, they look and often feel cheap and ugly (my opinion). My first bought watch was a Casio. I loved it at the time until I realized how very easily the watch got scratched. I expected much more for a $100 watch. I have a $60 Invicta that is more than twice the watch my Casio was. I'm not a big Invicta fan but if you know how to buy them, they are excellent quality for the price.
@@veg7nlif376 I don't care about Casio tbh, they look cheap, but when it comes to Seiko the cheap ones to me are crap quality and the expensive ones are too expensive, yes, they are great, but they are still Seiko.. GS..
DW look 100% like those unbranded watches you find at the dollar store. I can't believe people think they have premium materials, they look cheap from a mile away.
My Invicta Pro Diver got me into watches. It was my first “real watch” and for that, I will always keep it and never sell it. But I tend to echo your sentiment. Wear what you like, it’s nobody else’s business.
Ain't nothing wrong with that, my first (mechanical) watch is a Boderry Urban Skeletal watch, barely known Chinese brand, decent specs, fairly low cost. Your watches are yours, if you enjoy them, why worry what others think, the way some people act it's like if you showed them a Timex they might burst into flame from the shock
I actually hate smartwatches, just because I like to keep it simple. I don't need my Seiko to order a Pizza for me. But I saw a Samsung Gear on a coworker's wrist a few days ago, and it looks absolutely stunning. Too much hate in the watch world!
Had a Huawei. It was a very useful tool for my everyday routine (calls, texts, notifications, weather). Loved the fact I had so many dial design choices. Only reason I dumped it was the poor battery life.
@@MrPleers I bet you are one of the lazy people who gave up on using fixed telephony just because it's easier to be mobile, pretty much the same way you can answer the phone with a touch (if you have a sw or Bluetooth) instead of pulling a 6 inches brick and sliding your finger across. Sarcasm
I think smartwatches fall in this unique subcategory in the watch world. I am not sure if we have seen the culmination of smartwatches either as I think there is much to improve. It will be interesting where the world of smartwatches goes in the next ten years because as of now I think they still swim in a different lane than wristwatches.
I have an Invicta Russian Diver that my dad bought for me when I was 16. I don't wear it much anymore but I have to say that it was the watch that got me into collecting timepieces
Invicta started me in watch collecting. Though I have gave away/sold many of the clunkers since becoming more informed about watches in general.. I still have 3-4 models they make or made in the past that I love and will always be apart of my collection. Also they make great Pelican-Style Watch cases that are of amazing quality for the price.
I have my eye on a diesel watch for it's iridisent dessing, but I'm not buying it until it's cheap, dirt cheap, casio F-91 cheap, so pretty much never going to buy it.
I use Movado and love the look and feel. I would put them in the upper echelon of Quartz watches and that is fine with me. I like the timeless look of their museum pieces.
You do realize there isn't much war which involves fighter planes nowdays, not to mention the technology evolved so much they probably have an AI telling them it's time to fart, right?
andrei-cosmin popa obviously you are not a pilot. @teddy. You get the idea right? Things in my mind would be like. Breitling emergency. Luminox. Gmt watches. Breitling navitimer. Watches with backlighting meant for pilots’ heads up display. Altitude/temperature/barometer/compass readings. Watches targeted for airline pilots, general aviation pilots, military, cargo, sport, sea planes, bush pilots, rotary. I know teddy would have more ideas than mine. Because there are so many so called “pilot watches” and yet they are only connected by heritage through an achievement set decades ago by the aviation pioneers. How about the benefits to modern pilots? Enjoy the research teddy and thank you!
I have thought about making a video, specifically for GMT's about this very subject because I have not seen one video that accurately describes this. I work in an aircrew field and from what I have seen the Tudor GMT is best suited for this because the bezel moves in half hour increments. Where this really comes into play is if you have friends in the military, specifically Afghanistan. Since they are in between time zones they do a half hour difference, 4 1/2 hours plus UTC time. Set the GMT hand to UTC and the hour to local time, use the bezel to calculate where you are going or track another time zone, so you can figure out what to set the local time to or plan out what time you expect to land for flight planning.
Very good idea. There is a mystique to pilot's watches and some people believe that some of the qualities of the target customer will be transferred to them, and I suppose that also applies to divers and racing watches too. However, the adverts for Breitling, Bell and Ross, Sinn etc are all very emotive, but I remember seeing a Bell and Ross advert with a fighter pilot, a diver, and am EOD operator in Watches of Switzerland and laughing. The chap in the store asked what was so funny, and told him that firstly Ive been an EOD operator for over ten years and the only watch issued was the standard CWC G10 watch. Secondly, you cant read a watch in a bomb suit.
I bought a Movado Bold TR90 a few years ago (black dial blue hands) and I still love the look it has. My wife does not like it but I do get compliments on it from other people. 🤔 But I do notice that no one ever reviews this brand on YT. Glad you mentioned them.
In Movado’s defense, the museum dial is what brought them into the mass market. So why not run with a design that is continuously profitable? Vintage Movado is incredible, but they are known for the Museum. Their clientele appreciates the jewelry aspect of watches, which is why they’ve established a fashion brand division like Fossil. Can’t blame them for going where the money is.
I recently purchased a Movado Series 800, and I think its an amazing looking watch. It caught my eye out of every other watch in the case. I think I got a decent deal on it... so there it is.
They're Swiss made with sapphire crystal and they are beautiful. As long as you're paying a good bit below retail, I really don't see what there is to hate about Movado.
@@grantflora7161 Movado is like the Mercedes Benz C350 of watches. Like Mercedes-Benz, it's a middle-class flex, overpriced for what it does but backed by an iconic brand that makes wearers look rich. Accordingly, they depreciate until about half the retail price but hold their value at that point forever...most Movado wearers buy them used or on holiday discounts, not retail.
Series 800 got me into this. I have 2. I think it’s an underrated watch for the discounted price point it usually goes for. Really well made and comfortable to wear.
I recently decided to start getting into watch collecting. Back when I was around 13 years old, I would save up every penny and "collect" watches from generic/fashion brands, such as Fossil, Guess, Casio etc. One watch I bought on a family vacation abroad was a Movado Museum. Few years ago it stopped working. I know a lot of watch enthusiasts hate it, but today after 10 years, I got it out of the closet and got it repaired. It is not so much a collectors watch, but my soul still lights up when I look at it today and I would definitely still proudly wear it as a dress watch. I guess, because it brings me back to that childhood... who knows. All in all, thanks for this video Teddy. You have definitely got me excited about watches and can't wait to start adding to my collection. Keep up the good work!
I've never bought a watch before until a few days ago and it just so happens to be a Movado watch which cost me nearly $700.I know nothing about watches so I just picked out this watch because it looked nice.
I ended up finding a simple Movado museum classic for around $150. Honestly for that price, I thought it was a great deal. I think its a very simple and clean design with good quality, but doesn’t warrant the normal $600 price tag
Agreed I had started with Invicta , fell into the marketing trap. I started learning more (partly from this channel) and my tastes have changed, I will say my Invicta Grand Diver i do enjoy, but the rest ( of my Invicta collection) I'm looking to give away as gifts. I gladly ordered a Ball Hydrocarbon to start a proper collection.
@@aakashv2349 Pro diver is probably the only good Invicta right now. You're better off with an Orient or Seiko for around that price. Or spend a bit more money and get a nice Hamilton.
I recently bought an Invicta Pro Dive after watching reviews and am enjoying it on its merits: decent build quality (I replaced the bracelet with a NATO) water resistance, admittedly not certified but I've seen real world tests, stainless steel construction and that Seiko movement ...my one is accurate to -2sec per 24 hours. In addition to this I am relatively blissfully unaware of their bad reputation as I am a UK buyer :-) Oh, and my one didn't have the ubiquitous MSRP price tag woven onto it.
For all it's faults, Invicta makes a great diving watch. I've had one for years and I love it. I bought it as a cheap watch to wear at work, but ended up buying a more expensive work watch so I wouldn't damage the Invicta.
Great video as always. I've heard that Invicta has addressed the whole "Swiss made" issue. If their new watches say "Swiss made" it does meet the standards to say that. Keep up the good work!
Thank God someone that knows! I love the invicta swiss made watches. Those are the only ones I buy. And they're amazing watches, not just for the price, but period.
I wear an Invicta Pro Diver because it looks great (many compliments - even from the GMT crowd), decent build and I can't afford to slap $15,000 around my wrist (I'm comfortable with who I am). I wear a Movado Museum because it fits my personal style (the "who needs numbers" crowd) and I wear a Casio Telememo because it does everything, is extremely comfortable to wear, and if it breaks, I'm out $25.
I wear a Invicta Pro Diver 9110, Ruber strap, automatic hackable mvmt from seiko, driver able for 200m. For 67 bucks thats a completely great value for my money. There's no diver for 67 bucks out there with those specs.
With the exception of the date window, I do not think most of the Invicta models looks much like a Rolex. I admit the Invicta 38 mm Black Pro Diver looks somewhat like a Rolex Sub Mariner, but this is the exception. I'm not a fan of Invicta or Rolex; however, I would rather buy an Invicta than a Rolex. At least I would be getting what I paid for. Rolex watches are so over priced. I buy Omegas. Much better value.
The Invicta pricing technique you mention is what behavioral economists call "price anchoring." I think you explained it well but often the product, like in the case of outlet stores, is never sold at the "original price." It's annoying but it helps move often lower quality product.
Agreed! First expensive watch I ever got back in 2015. When I got more into collecting I realized how hated it was due to the brand being sold but it didn’t phase me because it’s one of my favorite dial designs in history
same i have the all stainless museum piece with 11 diamonds on the dial it was my first watch but as I've grown in collecting it's still my first watch but far from my favorite now
I understand the rationale for hating Movado but the museum is classic and usually gets more attention than my Omegas & Tags. I thought about chucking it but it is a fantastic everyday watch that goes with just about any outfit. At the end, it’s about what we individually love.
@@andrei-cosmin.popa85 Your first experience with a watch is your most valuable one, An unboxing experience is the very first one. It's important... for me at least.
@@mko3530 A box is a box. Nothing more boring than a YT in which some guy is salivating for ten minutes over a hunk of cardboard or plastic or even wood. Open the box, remove the watch, reassemble the box and paperwork, stash it with your other boxes, wear the new watch. Period.
Yes, invicta has some nice boxes with some of thier watches. When I see them for sale on CL or Letgo I try to buy them if they aren't asking too much. The are like a pelican... very tough.
These brands remind me of when a friend imported like 5000 Chinese watches to sell here in Mexico. He was selling them for the equivalent of $30 and he was making a 1000% profit on them. They also looked very similar to these internet watches, but with rubber straps instead of leather.
They still have a few decent pieces (like Invicta). They have a heritage line and their Series 800 Sub-Sea (which I own). Solid end-links, sapphire crystal, 200m water resistant, screw down crown, Swiss Made, but quartz (albeit a highly accurate, higher end quartz movement). There are definitely better options out there for the price point.
mcstarling07 is right. Not everything is hot garbage, but it is hard to defend them when over 50% of their catalog is just the same design over and over.
Exactly Teddy. I try to be fair (as do you) and I can see where there is potential and that they do have some standouts in their catalog. Overall, the brand has fallen far from their heritage and they've basically turned themselves into the "museum watch" brand. Sad to see, but the glimmers of hope (like the Series 800) keep people like me hoping that they change their foolish ways. Thanks for the reply.
Through my life I have own several Movado watches to include their ESQ line and I can’t say enough good things about them those watches lasted me for many years and in my former line of work they took some punishment and kept on ticking. Unfortunately, someone broke into my home and stole all my watches to include my high-end watches. I was so heartbroken I refuse to buy or wear a watch for the last 5 years. I recently purchase my first watch and yes is a Movado along with a safe. lol. I am currently ready to start my collection to include some high-end watches. Teddy I have watch some of your shows and found them to be very informative. Thank you and I'll keep watching and learning.
Great video. I agree with everything you said, even though I like the Invicta brand and own a couple that I love. Invicta does many things that make me cringe and I don't blame those who love to hate the brand. My fav is a model 14465, and I got it for 275.00. It works perfectly and I wish you would do a review of it.
My Invicta Pro Diver was my first automatic and was what got me "into" watches. Before I used to wear a handful of Michael Kors/Fossil in generally clean styles (and always got them at discount pricing). And I will still defend those early purchases. Like Teddy said, as long as people aren't buying these entry level/budget watches for their overinflated MSRP, they can be great value. It may be cheesy but I'll keep them for the long haul even as I buy nicer watches to look back on how I've evolved.
My collection of watches currently are mostly Fossils (gifted to me). They have great looking watches and the finishes are excellent. My favorite is a gunmetal chronograph my wife (then girlfriend) gifted me on our first Valentine's Day. Over a decade later and it's still running strong and accurate (quartz). My second favorite is a racing inspired Mechaquartz (quartz movement, automatic chronograph) which is a stunnerwith a bull-nose case. I think they can be a good gateway to the watch world (unlike a lot of the fashion watches I bought in my youth, but I never payed more than $20 for those watches and still got 5+ years out of them). I do love every single watch I have and rotate through them quite frequently. I share the same sentiment in keeping those but am eager to buy some quality time pieces with horological significance.
I have a pro diver, it really kick started my interest into watches. I wanted a great looking automatic dive watch that wouldn’t break the bank. Now because of its low price and high availability I wear it all the time without worrying about bumping or scratching it or God forbid losing it. My interest in watches has expanded since then and I definitely have my eyes set on some better/ more expensive watches, but I can’t deny the value for money in the pro diver. Like you said, Seiko NH35 movement, sapphire crystal, robust water resistance etc. That being said, the pro diver is probably the only Invicta watch I’d ever buy/ have bought.
I love my Swatches, i have one i bought for AUD$28 in Sydney in 1985 and it’s still going in 2019. It tells the time the same as any expensive watch. I have a dearer watch too, but i can have some fun with a Swatch.
One of my most prized watches is a black/silver Movado Museum that was given to me as birthday gift from a former girlfriend. The last time we ever saw each other was at a NYE party about a year after we separated and I wore that watch. I don’t care much for any of their current offerings but the Museum design was one of the first to ever get me interested in watches and mine will never be sold no matter how many other nicer pieces I add throughout the years.
So, I like my Invicta. I have 2 of the same model, 1 with baby blue and one in a light lime green faces, and they have cloth band. Got them for $50 each and they've been consistent, I think they're good looking, and are predominantly understated as compared to other models. I would never, ever buy one of the larger models but I really like the 2 I have.
I would consider having quite a big watch collection and I hate to say it but I love my Invicta Pro. I won it on eBay brand new for £60 and the time keeping on it is better than some of my expensive watches. Fantastic value for money I love it ❤️
Movado is slightly different. Their Museum watch design is the icon itself. It was never ever about the movement or horology in a traditional sense. It was a true testament of minimalism and industrial design which was philosophically different than traditional Swiss watchmaking ideas. The Museum watch made a significant contribution to design in horology when it was introduced back in 1947. Anyone that doesn't recognize this doesn't know watches.
@@swoon_tv definitely the design works well in the outfit, just perhaps the morality behind inflating the price of a cheaply made watch which you can pick up for dirt pisses me off
DW is one of the most popular watches in malaysia...u can see more people with DW than seiko, casio, rolex etc etc but most DW owners like myself range from 17-30~40
They were always the MVMT way with the cut the middle man bullshit. The company is very new too, kickstarter made. The watches look decent, but as it is with every fashion watch brand, you can get better for the price range. Though it's not as crazy as the difference in the dinner plate brands, so it's not too bad of an investment to buy one of those watches
I purchased two of these brands in the past before I started watching reviews on RUclips. Two Invicta automatics and a Movado 800 series. The Invicta watches did not hold up at all. The Movado has been my most complimented watch and is still going to this day. I don’t even get that many compliments on my Omega Seamaster. I think Movado is overpriced after doing research and realizing it has a cheap quartz movement. Although I bough mine on close out at 75% off retail price and at that price it was a good watch.
When my gf told me she wants a DW because it's high quality compared to other Bauhaus watches I almost cried. Glad she actually didn't buy that crap after I presented Tissot to her.
I got a simple watch from one "big online site" for 2$. the brand was censored so i liked it for the summer and ordered it . After 1 month i got DW watch. With full logo, back logo ect.... And i was like uh ? Ok ... Thanks i guess...
Love, love, love my Invicta Pro Diver Quartz Divers. Bought them ten years ago, and they still work well as long as you replace the watch batteries. Very impressive in wearing. As long as they are under 100 bucks and 50mm in dial size. FYI, get your watches on Amazon Love my Crotons, Seiko, and Citizens, too. As long as the latter two are Ecco Drives.
My pet hate watch is Michael korrs , i bought a gold coloured one & went & put perfume on my wrist & it took the colour off of the watch , & I ended up with black wrists, never worn it since .
I personally really like Invicta as the watches they have that grab my attention are the bigger ones and that's great for me because I'm a really big dude and have a big wrist, I own currently a pro diver and I really like it it's been super reliable and I plan to buy more
I agree with your points. However the watch purchasing market is dominated by those who know only how to tell time and shop for what they like and what meets their price point. Next are the group that purchase a brand for the recognition of their peer group, once again these buyers only know how to impress and most know how to tell the time. Down at the bottom, less than 1 % are the WIS group, the Watch Idiot Savants, who know what 6Hz versus 8Hz means, know what a dual fold deployant is, know what the differences of 316L versus 904 stainless are, can identify the brand of watch that their doctor wears down to the model number. This group - includes me - we mock the sheep, we tend to be polarized in our devotion to certain brands, and will spend far more than we should to tell time, some live without certain norms to allow them to wear a $10k timepiece and fret about its potential to attract thieves while riding public transit. Our tribe will continue, the internet is the glue holding us together, sealing us from the pedestrian masses as well as a Trip Lock crown.
Five months ago, I became more than interested in the world of watches. In fact, I have become somewhat obsessed with the creatures. I have now some ten watches in my collection; none really worthy of significant importance or true value. I am now keenly informed and aware of the marketing, science, and horology behind hundreds of brands and am no longer bamboozled by the practices of the watchmakers you so disturbingly mentioned. In fact, it is with raw anger I discovered the ridiculous price gouging that the fleas, as well as luxury brands, market their watches to the uninformed customer. I sincerely hope that all of the viewers to this channel, as well as people of watch knowledge, clearly make an attempt to dissuade friends to seek quality vs quality appearance, and the catch and grab mentality of large store retailers offering fake discounts on marked up retail. However, do let the uninformed and underprivileged relish in the purchase of their petty insignificant toy watches. It pleases me to know that failure will be imminent in two years..maybe less..after purchase and only then will a real epiphany to change buying habits occur. Lastly, never pay retail! So many grey market dealers out there who will gladly sell the same luxury watch at a huge discount to retail. Long may your channel exist to prevent the fools from investing their hard earned money on garbage..for I was once a fool and perhaps still am.to an extent.
I love Movado Watch. I enjoy using it because it is very consistent and efficient and I used it in my job in our Montessori School. Since I used my Movado Watch last 2018 I never have a problem at all. So far I am so happy with my Movado Watch. Thank you.
This was a fun and interesting video. I've never really thought about 'hating' a watch brand. I've disliked individual watches, but never a brand. I actually bought an Invicta Pro Diver in the 1990s - and still have it - with an ETA 2824 movement. Watch still runs and keeps time well. I also recently bought a Glycine off the Invicta site due to the 20% discount. I agree that the current Invictas are not to my taste - but I have several wannabe rapper types (50+ year old wannabes) that simply love them. It's always been an aspect of watches that I love - you find something to suit YOUR style. AP watches are highly respected, but are clearly not my style. Thanks for sharing this seemingly controversial topic.
Wow! Thank you for your knowledge and insights. I just found an Movado Museum that was gifted to me by a friend in 1998. It’s a beautiful watch. I sent it to a company that specializes in watch restorations and repairs. I believe all it should need is a battery, tune-up and polish. I was going to invest in purchasing additional Movado watches till I seen your video. Now I’ll continue watching your videos and find other beautiful watches of value, thanks to you. Thank You So Much. Mick
My father was in a watch store and the owner told him Invicta is one of the 2 most trouble prone brands (i.e. a lot of repairs) they sell. I can't recall the other brand.
This year I bought 7 Invictas and well... love them they can take a beating and they feel good and not cheap at all even if there kinda cheap there still pretty good
Just a couple of days ago I went to buy my first proper watch to a jewellery store and I saw MVMT watches there. I couldn’t believe my eyes because I live in such a minor country lol
I plan on purchasing a pro diver as my first automatic. Only watches I have now is an old broken Fossil twist model, a citizen eco drive that's been absolutely amazing, and a cheap Casio G-Shock. I need more!
Completely agree. I think Tag also gets a bad rap. I own a Tag GMT automatic. It is a Swiss made high-end watch with an ETA movement, sapphire crystal, great bracelet, and dial. I bought it new and I recognize I paid for the branding, as well as the watch itself. However, that's true about almost any product. A product with a well-known brand can charge a premium. I know that many in the community think Tag is overpriced for what you get. Yet, many of those same people are okay with Rolex, for example. Isn't some of what you pay for Rolex related to the brand?
I purchased a movado museum classic stainless steel with black band as my first watch after 20 years. I absolutely love the sleek design and look. Feels amazing on my wrist also. For $300 I’m thrilled with the watch!
Movado has move away from what they use to be but they do have some great looking watches. I own several of them I have one that is been with me for almost 30 years and still works. amazing work horse.
Great video! Tactful comments regarding commonly Love/Hated brands are ALL on point from the watch Enthusiast Community's Perspective. I like the history of Invicta and Movado and wish they would return to the core ideals they have apparently sold out to marketing at the expense of their once esteemed reputation. Instead of MSRP hike the brands value, they should focus on being a cost effective brand and realistically price the watches with actual supply/demand on line numbers. They are not fooling the masses.... Many videos share these same sentiments as are spoken of here and elsewhere by this video and comments section.
Very good video, I'm completely agree, and about Movado I remember my dad once show me a book about art and design and was a Movado there, where is that brand now...
@@TeddyBaldassarre it's really something I'm sorry what happen with Movado, maybe in other of the episodes of your series about brands who lose their way you can speak more about it.
Movado still has their fans though. Probably selling more than ever. If you want an instantly identifiable "fine" watch that doesn't break the bank, they are a brand to look at. Only serious watch connoisseur types look down on Movado. To 95% of the population that knows what it is, they will consider it a nice watch.
I purchased an Invicta Pro Diver to be my beater watch but to my surprise it keeps great time and I have gotten more compliments about this watch than any other watch I own.
What I really like about Invicta is that they offer there pro diver model in different sizes. You can get it with a 38, 40, 43, 45 or even 47mm dial. Also, they come in unique colours. I ordered both the Invicta Pro Diver in 40mm and the Orient Kamasu in 42mm. While the Kamasu had sapphire glas and looked more premium, the 42 mm dial just didn't look as good on my 16.5 inch wrist. I ended up keeping the Invicta and sent back the Kamasu. However, I would recommend to buy one with a unique color. Most brands offer divers with blue, green, black or pepsi dials. Anything different is usually rare to find more expensive at the 1000+ privepoint. I ended up getting a Tudor Pelagos in blue when I bought my first apartment. However, because my wardrobe consists mainly of earth tones, my Invicta Pro Diver with its unique brown dial still gets more wear time.
I'm in my early 30s and I have an Omega Speedy and Grand Seiko Snowflake. I also have a Invicta 12878 Limited Edition Subaqua #61 of 500. It's "Swiss Made" with an ETA A07.171 Valgranges movement, one of the first watches I found with that movement when the Valgranges was released, five years ago when ETA still sold their movements to those outside of the Swatch Group. The Valgranges line didn't really take off until A08 series, when Swatch Group brands like Longines moved many of their models over to the Valgranges movements, but the A07 I feel was a milestone in ETA's history. It's big, heavy, gaudy, but I like it.
One thing about the current state of Movado it does push down the value of the vintage watches. The 70s chronograph with the legendary Zenith El Primo movement come in at around $4k which is around $2k less than the Zenith with the same movement from that era (and around $30k less than a Rolex Daytona with that movement!) the Movado, like the one Teddy showed in the video, has a more classic case with a date at 12. The Zenith is more of a brutalist 70s case by that time with burst dials and date at 4. (prices are roughly translated from GBP)
I went through a collecting binge about 8 years ago during a time when I had more money than sense and was addicted to Ebay. I found a lot of great deals on new and lightly used watches and ended up with a lot of Invictas (around 60). There were a few I didn't like once I got them because they were uncomfortable or some minor thing. The majority I still like and wear occasionally. I love the eye-catching looks of them and they get attention. Only ever had trouble with two; a hand fell off each one but a local jeweler was able to fix them. Now I love my Seikos more and even though I have far fewer of those, I love the craftsmanship. I probably wouldn't buy another Invicta because I believe the quality has been dropping every year, judging from other people's experiences gleaned from watch forums and videos like this one. But I'll hang onto the ones I have for awhile.
Why do people hate Movado? I wear my grandpa's old Movado which he bought sometimes in the 80s. Normal size at the time but very small now. Edit: I see now. Thanks for the info
@@ronniecree3938 you act like seiko and orient dont exist....shit Hamilton has stuff around 500 bucks and under.......no excuse for bad taste...........
I bought Orient Ray2 a week ago for 180$, super watch. Loses less than 1 seconds per day for me. Inside Rolex automatic standards for under 200. Can't recommend enough.
During the 90.s Movado was all the rage and prices were thru the roof....but now the brand has fallen out favor and prices have really come down ......I think they have become stagnant
@@theodorelenoir Yep. Although I think with Hubolt for me it's that I see a lot of them in windows (one mall I go to regularly has two shops opposed each other that both have them) looking ugly and out of place next to the Rolex' JLC's Omega's and so on. Where as the Mille I never see them in the wild.
While Ive had a few watches over 50 years or so the one Ive worn mostly has been a Victorinox Chronograph. It has the traditional 'Swiss Army Knife' Red face and while it came with a Rubber strap, its worn a black N.A.T.O. Band for the last 10 years.I never seem to see you mention this brand.I have grown very comfortable with mine and while most of my 'Toys' will go to my Grandson when my Mainspring finally unwinds, this will go wherever I go!Is there any others out there that are fans of these?
Thanks for this video Teddy. My comment today is on a different issue. I feel If Chinese manufacturers like Guanqin and Cadisen can put out some solidly built devices with automatic movements from Seiko and Citizen for less than $100, then these new age microbrands offering similar devices for much are no better than the Invictas and DWs of this world!
So with that in mind, Teddy, what would you say to people seeking out the older, more reputable Invictas and Movado watches? And when would you say was the cutoff date/year, more or less, for those companies producing quality watches?
I have just bought a HUGO BOSS 1513737. I know the inside are garbage but it's so beautiful for an everyday watch and will definitely turn a few heads. I also got it for £100 which is a bargain. I own a Breitling Montbrillant Legende A23340 which I never wear and get out now and then to polish 😂🤤👌🏼
Teddy, minor correction. The invicta pro diver is just a mineral crystal. Also the cycplops is just uv glued to the glass. A tiny bit of heat makes it fall off.
I'm new to Horology (18 months). My first 2 watch was Vincero!! Within 2 months, I learned, sold them and started collecting more serious watches. My latest being the Spaceview 2020 ( I'd have bought from you but the UK importation costs kill me). I should really thank Vincero for getting me into watches...
One thing I know is that NOBODY hates Seiko and Casio.
A lot hate Seiko especially those who went straight to Swiss
I think I am about to receive some hate but I can't stand Seiko or Casio. I use to like Casio before the world of watches opened up to me. They do keep good time and Casio is very durable but despite them being well made, they look and often feel cheap and ugly (my opinion). My first bought watch was a Casio. I loved it at the time until I realized how very easily the watch got scratched. I expected much more for a $100 watch. I have a $60 Invicta that is more than twice the watch my Casio was. I'm not a big Invicta fan but if you know how to buy them, they are excellent quality for the price.
I do :D

My Invicta Pro Diver got me into watches. It was my first “real watch” and for that, I will always keep it and never sell it. But I tend to echo your sentiment. Wear what you like, it’s nobody else’s business.
Mine was my second, but otherwise very similar. It's a solid watch.
Truth. My very first thing I ever bought with my own money was a globe limited edition g shock and I will always keep that watch
low key respect the Invicta pro diver because it's a lot of bang for your buck.
Lol. Your first real watch was the one you bought after the invicta.
I actually hate smartwatches, just because I like to keep it simple. I don't need my Seiko to order a Pizza for me. But I saw a Samsung Gear on a coworker's wrist a few days ago, and it looks absolutely stunning. Too much hate in the watch world!
Smartwatches are for people who are too lazy to take their smartphone out of their pockets.
@@TeddyBaldassarre I don't see them as a true watch. More like an extra cellphone screen that you can strap on your wrist.

My father gave me one of his extra Citizen eco-drives when I was 8, that was the very first in my collection
That turtleneck sweater looks great on you!
I was thinking that too. Dude knows how to rock a turtleneck.

I’ve always thought of fashion “watches” more as bracelets that tell time, than wrist watches.

I use Movado and love the look and feel. I would put them in the upper echelon of Quartz watches and that is fine with me. I like the timeless look of their museum pieces.
Yes, and if you wear Movado it speaks you have class and refined taste. In 1998 Movado had the same prestige like Rolex just with better taste.
I AGREE.
Next video idea:
Pilots watch with an actual benefit to real pilots.
@@autothrust330 well said.
You have to admit the Movado museum watch is striking. It was never, ever a potential purchase for me because I wouldn't be able to tell the time. 😅
My finger has been on the purchase button for the past month now on that watch. It's simplistically beautiful
Like movado...have that exact black/gold museum n gold/steel one...would never buy any of there other watches but like that simple classy look
I’ve had my Movado dress watch since 1998 and it’s still as beautiful as when I first put it on.
My museum is an automatic and I love it. But I do get why they hate the quartz version of it

They're Swiss made with sapphire crystal and they are beautiful. As long as you're paying a good bit below retail, I really don't see what there is to hate about Movado.
I bought 2 Movado Series 800 and to be honest their great watches.
@@grantflora7161 Movado is like the Mercedes Benz C350 of watches. Series 800 got me into this. I have 2. I think it’s an underrated watch for the discounted price point it usually goes for. Really well made and comfortable to wear.

At the Movado, for under $2k. you can get a used/vintage Cartier with the sapphire if that's really what you want.
Same here, my Seiko Powered Pro Diver was my gateway watch. Now have some vintage Heuer & Omega Pieces that i really enjoy.

In addition to this I am relatively blissfully unaware of their bad reputation as I am a UK buyer :-)
Oh, and my one didn't have the ubiquitous MSRP price tag woven onto it.
I'd rather wear a $20 Casio than an Invicta that wants to be a Rolex. A Casio at least comfortable with what it is.
their is a million different watches that look exactly like that that dont get hate
@@mark01ization not really, but I see your point.
Love my Movado museum. And so does most everyone that sees it. Most complemented watch I own.
Art deco perfection 👌
The museum design is still magical. One of the all time greats. It is more about paying
$ 2K for a watch and Movado cheaping out on the movement, etc.
Isn't it ironic how MVMT 's main value proposal is offering a lot for your money when they in fact give you so little for what you pay?
I like Invicta, I enjoy the style and they are reasonably priced and have never failed me or ended up broken a plus especially for the price.

I had a crap watch once. (A Fossil). The watch worked for about a year. But the box is still used years later to keep my keys.
Like you said, it's such a shame Movado has become what they are now, I quite like what they did in the past.
Thank you, I'll take a look. Maybe they're still doing something right, could be interesting
mcstarling07 is right.
There's a couple variations of the invicta pro diver u should look into
I love my Swatches, i have one i bought for AUD$28 in Sydney in 1985 and it’s still going in 2019. It tells the time the same as any expensive watch. I have a dearer watch too, but i can have some fun with a Swatch.
I amtrying to buy a gk100. I am going to do a mini collection of theur skeleton watches. They are fun.
While wearing my Invicta, a dog walked up to me, stared at my watch and said, “You must be kidding!”🙁
a talking dog? Must be some good acid involved in that exchange.
this got a great laugh. thanks

Not true on the 'Brick and Mortar' front for DW Teddy. Their shops all over London you can't escape from them.
Kraftwerk should come out with a watch.

I have Invicta Pro Diver in blue, paid $63 for it and i love it. Seems to be nice quality, with Seiko automatic movement and overall feels lovely
There's a DW shop in London near Old Spitalfields. I'm sure there are others. They've expanded to brick and mortar now
I love Movado Watch.
Mick
I agree with all your choices. I want to hurl a chair at my TV everytime I see Invicta being sold on a shopping channel!
My father was in a watch store and the owner told him Invicta is one of the 2 most trouble prone brands (i.e. a lot of repairs) they sell. I can't recall the other brand.
This year I bought 7 Invictas and well... love them they can take a beating and they feel good and not cheap at all even if there kinda cheap there still pretty good
Amén!!! To that bro, I have 4 invicta watches Subaqua nomad IV, 2 pro diver, Marvel black widow, and 2 Nautica and they look great, I get compliments.
Is NORDGREEN similar to Daniel Wellington and MVMT?
They seem to be using the same marketing pitch.
There are lot of brands doing the same method. See as example Filippo Loretti
Rolex > Tag. Tag are entry luxury watches
I agree. I heard a $15,000 Rolex costs about $700 to make (HUGE profit margin)!
john smith huh really? Which model?
john smith I sold one of my Rolex bracelets (18k) for $3k with stretched links ???
That was more than I paid for the entire watch 25 years ago
I purchased a movado museum classic stainless steel with black band as my first watch after 20 years. I absolutely love the sleek design and look. Feels amazing on my wrist also. For $300 I’m thrilled with the watch!
Movado has move away from what they use to be but they do have some great looking watches. I own several of them I have one that is been with me for almost 30 years and still works. amazing work horse.
Just picked up a My Little Pony digital. LOVE IT.
Ha! Lovely
Looking at some of their old chronographs you realize how far they have moved away from their original focus of design.
I love my Movado, but it's an anniversary watch. Its design is more from their past.
I'm newly getting into watches, I'd love a part two for this. Information!
I completely agree with you about the designer brands and Invicta! Is very sad that a brand like Movado lost it’s way like that!
I tried to keep it as objective as possible here. Glad to hear you agree. Thanks for watching again, Francisco.
Ordered a $100 Invicta Speedway and I can’t wait to wear it. I wonder how well it’s made.
got mine today and it's great!
I bought 1 Invicta years ago and had it for a couple of weeks and all the hands came off . Never again.
Yo what hair gel do you use it looks great!
Why do people hate Movado? I wear my grandpa's old Movado which he bought sometimes in the 80s. Normal size at the time but very small now.
Edit: I see now. Thanks for the info
I must admit I like invicta I collect watches but don't have thousands of pounds to buy high end Swiss watches it depends what you want
The other day I visited an Invicta watch store. Oh, wait. That was a claw machine game at Dave and Buster's.
Hublot very over priced for what you get.
Hublot belongs to the same group who owns Tag Heuer. See the similarity?
Hublot's UNICO movement is actually alright. But their design is definitely an acquired taste, I would say
Djarra You can pretty much say the same about Richard Mille.
@@theodorelenoir I was thinking the exact same thing, this is the douchebag route: Invicta -> Hublot -> Richard Mille
Thank you! This is the only review that I found useful after 2 hours of searching!
Invicta is awesome :) I own 2 and their great
While Ive had a few watches over 50 years or so the one Ive worn mostly has been a Victorinox Chronograph.
How does one acquire such luxurious hair?
Pay $200 at a salon in a suit and they’ll know what to do😏
I have just bought a HUGO BOSS 1513737. I know the inside are garbage but it's so beautiful for an everyday watch and will definitely turn a few heads. I also got it for £100 which is a bargain. I own a Breitling Montbrillant Legende A23340 which I never wear and get out now and then to polish 😂🤤👌🏼
I wear the Movado 800 with the blue face. Probably my favorite that I own. My next will be the Omega with the blue face
Lots of comment on Invicta almost none on Movado. I am planning to purchase the heritage series for a dress watch.
