  • After episodes 109 and 110 of DragonBall Super, Goku finally got a new Ultra INSTINCT Limit Breaker form which allowed him to fight on Par with Jiren, But what if I told you Goku fighting in this state is something extremely similar to high class martial artists. Today we talk about that in depth.

Delano Dax clear your mind and not think of anything literally nothing but the task at hand. It takes practice you won’t master it in a day, maybe practicing situational awareness may help not think of anything when you are out and about

Here’s a tip to achieve ultra instinct
1: close your eyes and focus remove every thing out of your mind
2: when you feel like panic, hesitation, fear all turning into dust
3: focus on that one the thing. The fight.
4: if you see or feel or hear something coming where you hear it just face that direction and put your hand in the middle of your face
5: block it and respond with all your strength a faster sharper stronger attack

This is what I get doing extreme sports - at high speed, adapting to rapid changes in terrain and handling obstacles becomes instantaneous, almost entirely subconscious. Even when it comes to large, technical movements that require you to know exactly what you're doing, I can see something I need to deal with and immediately know what to do. I just go and know I can handle anything ahead of me - it's what you'd call insane; it's simply exhilarating

  • @conanedogawa4798
    @conanedogawa4798 6 лет назад +19

I have been in the martial arts since I was 7, so, practically my entire life. It wasn't until I was in my 20s that I first got glimpses of this state. I can pull it out for long enough to handle 1 surprise attack, so it is actually rather useful because it prevents me from getting blind-sided, but then as soon as I engage with the opponent it stops so clearly I still have a long way to go.
It is really strange to describe even being in this state for that brief moment. Every time it happens, it is as though my body moves on its own by some uncontrollable compulsion from outside my mind. My most recent example would be when I was trying to give some brief examples of how to defend yourself to my fiance, so I had her brother throw some demonstration punches at me. I demonstrated the blocks and the responses, then we broke off and were just casually chatting. Suddenly, I just felt an uncontrollable compulsion to stick my hand out. As soon as I obeyed this compulsion, the next thing I know is my fiance's brother's fist lands right in my hand.
According to what my fiance's now thoroughly wowed brother said afterward, he had wanted to mess with me and throw an actual full-speed punch at me while my guard was down (of course intending to stop it right in front of my face) because he didn't feel satisfied or like the martial art I was demonstrating was serious since I had demonstrated only the ability to block demonstration punches that weren't even full speed. But, well, I had MORE than demonstrated the ability to block a full speed punch, even one I wasn't consciously aware of. So, yeah, it works.
Paradoxically, it turns out the best way to train this instinct is actually with the method of training slow in order to get fast. You actually have to deal with people throwing slow-motion punches at you repeatedly. That way you learn the correct way to deal with them without panicking. After you learn the correct way to deal with them, you have your partner speed up a little, but not to full speed. Then you run drills over and over again, never sacrificing form for speed. After repeating this training several times a week for over a year you might be able to actually deal with a full speed punch by entering this instinctual movement state.

Ultra Instinct is a state of mind not a transformation
Even whis said the heat was weird with jiren stating it was his limit. So why not SSB and ultra instinct (auto-move and perfect ki control)
I don't think kaioken would work because the body would be too stressed to move loosely though

Awesome vid Jax, and thank you for talking about this. Just so you know, mushin isn't just for use in martial arts. In the theatre, actors study several techniques for performing actions or achieving specific emotional states. The most famous of these is the "Stanisklavski Method" where actors will perform the actual activities or skills they need to recreate, then using sense-memory to replicate their experience and simulate an accurate reaction (as the explicit learning method you mentioned at 8:50). By contrast, the "Meisner Method" requires actors to empty themselves of all internal thought processes and scripted reaction; instead, entering a mentally-neutral state and opening themselves up to all external stimuli and reacting accordingly as their mind and body would in a real-life situation (an implicit system). Being able to cultivate and enter the mushin state can be highly beneficial in more than practicing martial arts. People working construction or service jobs that require repetitive movement or fast response times will work far more efficiently. Those with interpersonal jobs can become more empathetic and find better creative solutions to personal problems. Even if your goal isn't to get ripped like Bruce Lee, waking meditative states like mushin can provide real social and health benefits to anyone. Thanks again, Jax!

I have experienced a similar phenomenon when performing in a high school play. The lines came out and I reacted to the other actors without consciously thinking about them. As strange as it may sound, it feels almost as though you are floating above yourself and watching yourself perform. When I finally became aware of what I was doing I thought I might have skipped a line. But in actuality I didn't and the play went on. I believe this very well could be a similar psychological phenomenon that can be experienced in fighting or sport performance etc. it truly is amazing but probably a little more badass in a fight than on a stage.

An interesting thing I realized when thinking about the mastered ultra instinct is that goku's hair turns white. In martial arts, the color white represents a person who has no knowledge and is unaware of what is happening. Doesn't that sound similar to the way Whis described ultra instinct as goku being unconsciously acting during the fight.

  • @neoshenlong
    @neoshenlong 6 лет назад +83

Yeah it isn't that hard to imagine. Think of something you do a lot, like playing videogames or playing an instrument. Not everyone can do those things even to a basic level. A person that has never or almost never played videogames, or simply doesn't do it very often, will struggle trying to press a button or finding it in the gamepad, while someone who has played videogames consistently for all of their life will simply react to a button prompt when they see it, or to the action that the game expects you to do. When you play videogames after years and years of doing it you're not thinking about which button you're pressing and in which order or with which finger, you're just... doing it. Then there are some crazy pro gamers that develop this skill and do things like aim without really thinking much or pulling off multiple headshots in a manner of seconds while a regular player would take a few seconds just lining up one shot. The same goes for playing an instrument, there comes a moment where you're not thinking about how you're playing the note, where you're supposed to press or with which strenght you're supposed to do it, you just play it. And then there are very skilled musicians that don't even think about which note they're playing they just play the music and can even improvise some crazy things or instantly play songs they just heard a minute ago. All of these skills were obtained by repetition, by conditioning your mind and body to work instantly and almost automatically without you needing to telling it how to do things or when to do them. There is absolutely no reason to believe that this couldn't be aplied to any other skills, specially those based around repetition, conditioning and training, like martial arts.
In other words you might never become the most powerful martial artist in the multiverse, but you can still be like Goku and surpass your own limits by unlocking Ultra Instinct in music, or Ultra Instinct in videogames, or in whatever it is you like to do.

I had this sometimes with fencing and archery! :D
There was this 3v3 fencing battle. I had a rapier and a dagger. One of my teammates was pinned down in the enemy's corner, 2v1. I started walking over to save him. The third opponent rushed out of their base to attack me, shield raised at chin-height. I instantly shot out a high attack, angled downward, over the top of his shield and into his throat.
One of the two remaining opponents peeled off from my teammate and tried to gank me while this was happening. I parried him down with my dagger and calmly stepped past him, stabbing him in the gut with my dagger as I passed. In two more steps, I got behind the third opponent and took him out before he could kill my teammate.
It all felt like...the entire world was moving slower. I was able to ride the adrenaline high, but keep my mind calm, so that I could see everything the enemies were doing without letting it make me choke. It felt easy. It's not about becoming such a badass that you can do a million difficult things in a second. It's about intuitively breaking things down and _making_ them easy before you even realize it.
It's a really fragile mental state. Too much hype and you can start to choke. Too much relaxation and you can get dull. For me, it helps to concentrate on the way it _feels_ to move, and try to feel all of it at once. That's why archery is easiest for me to attain mushin: the breathing technique you use to straighten the spine as you draw the string -- which improves your overall body alignment and thus, your aim -- is such a calming breath, but you need to focus and really _feel_ it. Pretty much every time I shoot, I go mushin -- but I have very little training in actually _shooting a bow_ so my aim still sucks XD

I've studies martial arts for around 7- almost 8 years, and I can personally confirm that Ultra Instinct is definately real, as I have experienced a handful amount before.
The type of UI I've experienced is very, very difficult to explain. But everytime I had a spark of it, you don't even comprehend what's going on, let alone even remember what happens in that time frame.
Whenever I spar with an opponent, I will tend to train to use whatever UI I have, and dodge instinctively, and while it sometimes works, I still think about what is happening, so it's very difficult to use.
I say that this is very hard to explain, because it's just one of those things you have to have experience in order to grasp the concept of(or there could be evidence but IDK haha)
If anybody else has experienced this, I would love to know about it.

I only has a glimpse of ultra instinct once in my life. I was playing soccer with some friends and i was at the goal defending, and then the ball went straight to my face. In that single second the ball was coming to my face, i saw it as a great danger, and all i did was shut my eyes close and literally aceppt my fate since i knew i had no time at all to dodge it. All i had in my mind was the thought of the ball about to hit me, and then it happened: like 2 seconds passed and the ball didn't hit my face, instead i felt the ball hitting my palm, so i opened my eyes to see my arm extended right in front of my face. I knew that i didn't do it at own will since didn't even thought of doing that, but the most strange part is that i also didn't feel my arm moving at all

So I have something to share. So I have been studying Kung fu for about 6 years now and their is one training technique that I know of that stands out and sounds a lot like exactly about what your talking about. This technique is called ziron and its a partner drill where one person has their eyes closed and the other person watches his partners eyelids and when they open you immediately launch a attack at your partner as fast as you can. Or sometimes you don’t do anything or wave or do whatever. The person getting an attack thrown at them is supposed to be in a cleared state of mind and if they are the second they open their eyes their instincts will take over and block the attack without thinking. If they are nervous of what about is to happen then they will mostly likely be struck. Again this will build your subconscious and instinctual strengths to defend yourself. Hopes this helps.

All rooted on the same concept of achieving phenomenal mastery on a subject through training and conditioning of the mind and the body. Where, spontaneously and/or when the need arises, both work together to 'near' perfection.

Experiencing this is both Uprising and may seem cool but it is a terrifying I've never achieved it felt anything like this again and I dont think I ever will. But It takes intense reflexes and strength to do this.

Well I am training the kind of matrial arts that is all about body self react (almost all about*, like in 85%) by practicing same stuff over and over and over again but in diffrent combinations in the begining you can't really tell that you are practicing the same stuff but in some time you are getting more fluent with it and you start seeing that it's just the same sutff but like I said in diffrent combinations, and when I am practicing with other participants I always tell them it's easier to do this exercise when you are thinking less, laughting to myself same time, when they tell me stuff like "man, this is hard". And yea the "ultra instinct" is getting more and more often kicking in but still not enough.
Last time on training my Sifu showed us 3 diffrent ways of defending against some kind of strike, and I was doing those 3, depending what was my opponent doing but it was very sluggish, but one time my opponent attacked, and I managed to get away by sidestepping and I suddenly just grabbed his arm and kicked him in stomach where I didn't actually mean to do it neither my Sifu showed us that kind of defence at that training, well it was really good defence actaully because I sidestepped too far away and I couldn't really do the stuff my Sifu showed so my body reacted itself :D (I didn't hit him too hard tho, just by the end I realized what I was doing and stopped the kick, yet he said it hurt a bit).

I think Goku's mind training goes all the way back to his training on Kami's lookout with Mr Popo. Popo introduced him to meditating, and taught him to be thoughtless while in combat. "Be a stone" was Popo's very words. I still hear them ring in my head today.

It would suck if the episodes after goku talks normally WHILE in "mushin" form. Also, it seems kinda like abuse to use the spirit bomb on someone who isn't evil. Jiren is just an asshole.

    • @raizelshadez3122

I wouldn't call Jiren an asshole because he EASILY could've murdered Goku and waited patiently for the Spirit Bomb.

I don't see how Jiren is a bad guy. He fights for justice, after all. The others on his team do as well, but they brag and show off and posture. Jiren just pops in and does what is necessary, such as with Brol..er.. I mean Kale.

Raizel Shadez it’s never stated the spirit bomb can’t harm someone pure of heart. That’s a very common misconception in the DB community.

This is EXACTLY why i want to learn some form of martial arts... to achieve this sort of state of awareness it just appears so awesome to me, as soon as i read in the damn spoilers "self-movement" I instantly thought of Bruce Lee and his "be like water" quote, i instantly thought about those master martial artists that you could just throw a punch at and their reflexes will stop it without them even thinking... Ugh now you told me it's called "Mushin" it's going to get me to start searching up about Mushin and reading more about it. Is it weird that i just want to meet someone who is such a high calibre martial artist that they have achieved this, then ask if i can throw random punches at them and experience Mushin happen before my eyes?
Also i agree with going past your limits... limits are made to be broken how do you think people get stronger and faster? by breaking their limits! by saying screw you i'm not going to give in to fatigue

Ultra instinct is something I've finally tapped into, after three years of training it and just giving up trying to watch movements, I've let movements come to me.
The way I trained it, is of course meditation, but also active meditation and clearing my mind. I'm still working at it into mastery, but I know it'll take time

Mushin got depleted I'd guess it needs re-charging again.

No, the 'heat' was his body losing the power of the spirit bomb, which he was using as a battery. At full strength, Goku should know how to do this, just like with god mode. ... though god is a stupid term since everyone STILL calls Goku and Vegeta mortals.

Ultra instinct is basically awareness with all parameters (6 senses) pumped up to the max + reaction time. It really helps to get there through some meditation.

  • @htoval

I have randomly experienced this state during sparring practice a couple of times but as soon as a i become aware of it i fall out of Mushin and go back to normal. Learning how to enter this state at will would be priceless. During this state time slowed down in mind and every technique just flowed on its own. It felt like i was half sleep while using super fast reflexes.
