Absolutely, calisthenics and weight training are both great for you but what people always talk about shouldn't even be the discussion as far as which one is better; simply because it's debatable depending only on what your personal goal is health-wise. The discussion should be whether it's better to do calisthenics first and become great at that and then lift weights afterwards or if it's better to just start off lifting weights and become great at that then do calisthenics afterwards? If you did either method you would take your body to Peaks you didn't even know it had. I like doing a combination of both, with a slight lean towards calisthenics. My daily routine involves 200 crunches/30 leg raises while my breakfast cooks in the microwave, and then depending on the day later come back with a workout focusing on either upper body exercises, lower body exercises, or some other form of exercise (running, rock climbing, circuit work, etc). Never understood why some are so adamant against one or the other; unless you're training to be a power lifter, an optimised routine incorporating both is the most balanced way to exercise.

Seeing a person be essentially the physical embodiment of my two favorite hobbies (anime & training) makes me feel like i'm not the only person in the world who feels so strongly about these things. I basically never comment on RUclips9 for shit, but now I have to make an exception. Hi JB, I prefer calisthenics. I don't do pull ups (shoulder muscle issue), but I love to do push ups and abs variations, as well as all sort of plank variations. In the leg workouts (squats) it s fun to combine kicks and work on flexibility. As for the cardio part, shadowboxing (jab cross, hook, hook, uppercut uppercut), change sides, doing that for a few minutes feels like magic. I do add martial arts weapons training (choreographies) such as tai chi double swords, Bo staff, umbrella form kung fu and walking cane tai chi...to do memory training on my days if i dont feel that strong. Those routines also help in meditating, so i can visualize myself doing them. All that together....makes me feel like a superhero at 37 years old :) The fact that I work as an educator with children and teens also helps to keeping my mindset young . Love your clips and content. I bit too long usually for my opinion, but I have short attention span , so keep up the good work
I like doing both it gives me more of a challenge and I don't lack in anything and makes me feel better about myself honestly I feel like Baki everytime I bench and Deku everytime I do a push up I'm new to fitness and anime really got me into working out
I haven't seen your videos in a minute, but this motivated me to start working out again, I stopped because of me not seeing any progress like I saw when I was boxing. Thanks man
Glad to see this video. While I'd like to do weight training, calisthenics have been my primary method since I didnt have access to standard weights. Its yielded amazing results for me in a transformation from 280 to under 170
I train calisthenics, and I have just begun weight lifting. Since I hadn't done weight lifting in almost 6 years... It truly has been tough on me, but I am getting the hang of it again and I am quite enjoying it. Calisthenics experience for me has been about pure stability, balance and strength when you need it the most using a multitude of muscle groups in one dynamic exercise that can kick the hell out of you in 4 sets or less (I.E. Planche / Front Lever). Weight lifting it pure isolation of one specific muscle or a small grouping (Unless its a more complex lift). A new journey for new strength :D They both are fantastic ways to go as long as you understand proper form, volume, and progression points. Have fun kids
It’s insane that you brought this up, cause I was thinking about it right before I watched the video. My friend and I like working out, we just do it in different ways. He used to do a lot of calisthenics, however he’s mainly switched over to cardio from boxing training. I too have started training for boxing, cause I honestly found a huge interest in the sport, but I also come from a heavy weightlifting background, to which I still follow to this day. But, the difference is real and you can see it. From me being able to bench 265lbs at my highest right now, I can’t get past more than maybe 50 push ups before I start gassing, my friend can do it everyday all day still, like legitimate sets of 100, probably 4 sets. On the flip side, while he can do so many pushups.... he has an extremely week bench press. Barely pushing 95lbs, which I’m really trying to help him with. We are also very adamant on trying to get to a smaller size both of us. He wants to start getting toned again and I wanna just lose all this weight. I’ve always been a big dude, and I look okay in a shirt, but I’m really looking to get the Warrior/Thor physique.
Both of them are extremely important. I've been learning, I think i'm, it's starting to become more of a calisthenics guy, it just seems really cool to be able to do all that one handed upside down, push up
Ok so Jax, I know you already did a JoJo's tough like the toons, but I think a completely different version would be amazing. I was hoping you would make a workout that focuses on stamina and controlling your breathing, like in parts 1 and 2 of JoJo. It would be cool to incorporate meditating and breathing tricks during your workouts. I love all your videos by the way, especially ones on calisthenics. I do personally love both types of workouts, though.
This video speaks so much to me. Lol I cant decide to focus on weights or calisthenics. The simple answer is both, but as a beginner I don't know how to program. I gotta double down lol
Was a former bodybuilder, quit bodybuilding cuz realized the body is not gonna hold up with it when it's in its old age, so switched to martial arts. Since switching to martial arts, stopped weight training completely , with only one compound exercise with weights, that is barbell squats. As for others, I only trained in push ups, pull ups, crunches, leg raises, running , and martial arts training with ankle and wrist weights and a weighted vest. And it worked just like Rock Lee from Naruto and Goku from dragon ball. Never tried boxing or any combat sport in my life, but from the first time hitting the mits, my coach was shocked that my strikes pack enough power and reaction speed fast enough and unbridled instinct to compete and possibly going to the national or international levels.
Stick with unilateral training (one limb for a given exercise versus both at once), it'll help you not have one arm to overcompensate for another, and this way, both are getting equal work, so you can "catch up", that way.
Both calisthenics and weight training are part of my "Saiyan body" plan I'm doing for myself. Starts with weight cutting and a 5x5 program of squats, pullups, bench press, and deadlifts to maintain strength and muscle. Then it switches to a bulk phase of isolation exercises focusing on chest, back (mainly lats), Shoulders, core, the glutes, and upper legs as well as HIIT sprinting. Then from there, it's mainly calisthenics untill I feel like I have the endurance, body control, and stabilizing strength I want before moving back to mainly strength training. This is all in addition to daily stretching. Almost done with cutting, got 10-13 lbs left to go.
I like to rotate between weights and calisthenics. Example, I'll do a bench press for power with elevated pushups for a superset. Same with squats and lunges. Taxing on the joints, which is why I recommend if anyone super sets stuff like that they NEED to focus on their recovery. Sleep, meals, stretching are just a few examples of recovery. Love your videos! Inspires me to make more, share more, and learn more. Toss me a shout if you wanna train up here at Vandenberg AFB.
I prefer calisthenics myself for a few reasons. Main ones being that I don't really have access to a lot of weights and other such materials at home and finding the time to go to a gym to use weights is difficult and as you said expensive. Also I prefer to stay a bit more on the lean side and train more for just muscular endurance and body control. However those that lift weights I have huge amounts of respect for because they have the will to add that extra bit of strain on that one specific muscle group and that can be insanely useful. So all in all I say do what works best for you and be respectful to those that train differently than you might. But doing both would probably be best. Great video man keep it up.
I prefer callisthenics because I can do it anywhere and it’s more useful for doing day to day activities plus I’m light and very skinny but I like weight training as well
Both is better. One should balance the amount of calisthenics and the amount of weight training they do.

Thanks man
I like both. Calisthenics makes me leaner though. I like it more but I love weights for targeting certain muscles. Isolation!
What’s up bro, I’m skinny fat and I don’t wanna be big I just to get lean and shredded do you think calisthenics is better for that?
@@Savage-mb6zz yes
@@Savage-mb6zzYes bro. Callisthenics will help you
@@Savage-mb6zzYes absolutely. Works your core more
Great explanation about this topic! Love how you make it simple and clear.
Ask Phil Daru, a good mix is important.
Glad to see this video. While I'd like to do weight training, calisthenics have been my primary method since I didnt have access to standard weights. Its yielded amazing results for me in a transformation from 280 to under 170
Trying to be a purist in almost any discipline will limit your ability to improve.
zEN60 “form and style is limitation. Be like water my friend” Bruce lee
Very very true
I do both I love weights and bodyweight workouts
Do military press til you reach your bodyweight, than do handstand push ups 👍
I train calisthenics, and I have just begun weight lifting. Since I hadn't done weight lifting in almost 6 years... It truly has been tough on me, but I am getting the hang of it again and I am quite enjoying it.
Calisthenics experience for me has been about pure stability, balance and strength when you need it the most using a multitude of muscle groups in one dynamic exercise that can kick the hell out of you in 4 sets or less (I.E. Planche / Front Lever).
Weight lifting it pure isolation of one specific muscle or a small grouping (Unless its a more complex lift). A new journey for new strength :D
They both are fantastic ways to go as long as you understand proper form, volume, and progression points. Have fun kids
can we appreciate the deadlift joke in that skit
Both not only makes you looks great but gets you prepared for anything!!!!
Weighted calisthenics has joined the chat
Ah yes balance like all things should be
You know what I like about jaxblade is that every video he demonstrates that he's a fan of yet another anime/cartoon I like 😂.
Jax you are looking huge ngl
“BOTH HAVE THEIR CONS”
“STFU!” 😂😂😂
My favorite channel💯
I want to argue that you can bring your weights with you. I carry kettlebells daily to work.
This video speaks so much to me. Lol I cant decide to focus on weights or calisthenics. The simple answer is both, but as a beginner I don't know how to program. I gotta double down lol
There should be real superheroes! Why does no one try!? With how many 'crazy' people there are lol i'm surprised.
Agreed!!
Is that a kick ass reference?
This is by far one of my favorite videos training wise
do hanayama grip strength
Fuck yes
How do i fix muscular imbalances?
Work on your weaknesses

Well hello there
I like to rotate between weights and calisthenics.
I love doing both. Thanks for the video. Can't wait for the release of my dumbbell girls!
I prefer callisthenics because I can do it anywhere and it’s more useful for doing day to day activities plus I’m light and very skinny but I like weight training as well
I'm SO glad I came across this video
Dude, that corpse/dead-lift joke was great!

This does put a smile on my face
