I'm a retired Marine, just turned 37 last month, and I've had both hips replaced this year - one in March, one in August. Before the surgeries, I'd been trying to get back into shape to help deal with the pain of avascular necrosis & arthritis in both hips. It sucked, hardcore. Constant pain. You're hips are at the center of pretty much every compound move, so progress was hella slow, but i persevered and dropped about 35lbs.
After and between the surgeries, I focused on rehab, as well as watching my diet. I'm now moving around better than I have in 10 years. Hell, I'm more fit than I was in the Corps! I'm not quite ready to try running again, but I'm getting closer.
One step at a time, eyes on the horizon.

Stock Villain what kind of excercises are you doing for your rehab? I had surgery last summer due to avascular necrosis too and i lost all of my weight/muscles. I just recently got back into doing simple calisthetics.

Cool and of course keep on going ! You'll be better and stronger.
Getting hurt or getting injuries has made me mentaly stronger. My life-story is a bit long and maybe bizare, but I survived 32 years which were dark & bad. It was injury back to back. Shattered my knuckes of both hands 2 times in 2 weeks, had microfractures on many bones (I know the reason). Shortly said 32 years of severe abuse. But with good help I became a calm and friendly giant, who loves to write poetry & cook. I train a little bit, because it keeps me awake and sharp too.

This is quite long but Jax's story struck a chord. I had an injury at 17 after pushing myself past my limit during one of my training sessions. And it was due to my own hubris for thinking "oh, I've been training for years now. I don't need to warm up because my body is always warmed up." Some stupid shit like that, and the following day, I couldn't move. I was stuck in bed. If I lifted even a toe or finger, pain would just shoot throughout my entire body. And the worst of it was the abdomen area.
When my family got up to find me in pain they honestly didn't know what was wrong, one day I'm fine doing calisthenics and jogging, the next I look paralyzed. When the pain lessened, I was able to get to the hospital and they had to do an ultrasound just to see how fucked up my muscles were from inside. And all of my muscles, everything had intense cracks and scars all over. Especially my fucking abdomen. Fuck that shit was painful. One Doctor and a couple of nurses gathered around me because they hadn't seen that before. After more tests, they gave me the news. And what they told me was that luckily, my body decided to be in that much pain *that* day. Because if for whatever reason the pain was postponed for the day after and say I exercised, then for sure I would not have the ability to train for years if at all if it went down say a day later.
But they said there was some good news to this. And that was that if I took the time to heal and did some recuperative exercises over a long period of time, sure, my muscularity would decrease, but those cracks would heal and as a result the muscles would be stronger. And word for word the Doc said "Luckily in your case son, you were right on the edge. And because of that, ironically, it'll work out better in your favor in the long run once these scars are healed. However! From now on, train smarter. A *lot* smarter. Not harder. As a matter of fact, once you're back at 100%, it would actually take quite a bit more punishment for your body to end up like this again. But heed this experience as your warning for lack of warming up and/or stretching son."
5 years later, and I'm better than ever.

When I was in 8th grade, I permanently broke my ankle, the piece that broke didn't heal properly and I had to live with an ankle that was permanently broken. I was a sprinter at the time and I was being told my sprinting career was over. Now I'm in 10th grade 0.1 seconds away from reaching an Olympic time. I went through physical therapy and never let my injury get the best of me.

When training the greatest point to remember is humility, patience and understating. If you look at your weakness, you can see what you need to work on. But even then you must always remember your weakness so you can say to your self if." I can work on it. I can get better with it in time." The only reason I know this is because of the martial art training I have done, And the help from Jax. Remember to always listen to your body. And thank the people who help along the way.
Thank you for the help Jax. You are the inspiration for my training. And a thank you to all my martial arts masters.

This really hits home right now. Also always picked on and grew up with low self esteem for being short/scrawny. Currently dealing with some (what they think anyway) nerve damage. Under my sternum and my back are in constant pain and I've had to cut out working out completely. Which is making me loose size turning me back into the scrawny guy I worked so hard to get away from. Trying to work on my cardiovascular endurance and meditation in the mean time. This is had been a really hard year.

“Pride is not the opposite of shame, but its source. True humility is the only antidote to shame” - Iroh
This video really connects with me for a lot of reasons, but especially since I have been making very similar mistakes for the last four years (weird coincidence). Feels like I'd been throwing myself against a brick wall in order to break through, when all I did was break myself. Still struggling now but I've been humbling myself and finally went to a physio because I always thought I could figure it out on my own.
    Thanks a lot.

This is the kind of video I needed to see.
Some backstory, I was overweight for almost all of my life until about 2 years ago where I decided to make a change in my life. I started with just weightlifting and now I've been training in muay thai for about a year and I am in love with it. I've been making a lot of progress in both my health goals and my skill in muay thai (I'm not training to fight, just doing it for fun).
I recently just tore my MCL and been doing physical therapy for about 3 weeks. It just feels so bad not being able to throw a kick let alone train. I was actually thinking of trying to get back into it ahead of my recovery schedule. Watching this reminded me that I have to focus on my therapy exercises so that I can fully recover without complications.
    Thanks Jax!

Jax, you and Scott Herman fitness inspired me so much when I started lifting even to now. I started trying to lift seriously January of last year because I didn't like what I saw in the mirror everyday. Eight months later I loved my body and what I had done with it, but then I broke my arm during basketball and am still in rehab for it. Immediately I broke down thinking about how all of my training was for naught because of the atrophy that would occur not only from the surgery that cut straight through my tricep, but the three months (at least)I would not be able to lift and play my sport. I used to look forward to seeing myself after a year transformation, but I've taken so much time off and seem smaller. I've decided to take this as a challenge, in no small part due to your inspiration. I will have about 3 months till summer vacation when I will be cleared to lift. I am challenging myself to have an even better looking physique than I had pre injury before summer starts, and I find myself salivating with new drive to achieve this goal.
Thank you for all the motivation and support you have given me even though you don't even know who I am. You have touched everybody in your fan base and inspired them to be better.

this video relates to me so much man. this was literally me. I am obsessed with working out and was making such progress but I over did it and got injuried from over use and still pushed through it cos of my ego and now I'm stuck with injuries and still in recovery after like 2 months. I still feel anxious about my progress going down the drain and seeing all my friends surpassing me and making gains while I'm just atrophying. I have the same problem of how you tried to just lose weight but end up looking skinny or not losing weight and just looking t shirt buff. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this video. this really inspired me on what I really need to focus on. Love this channel man. keep it up!

Dude! I started a 120 day workout with a strict vegetarian diet!! My schedule is Monday through Thursday. First off, I do 20 jumping jacks, then 20 squats for a warm-up! Then I do 150 situps! Lastly, I do 50 curls with an 8 pound weight for each arm! I have 117 days left! Wish me luck for me completing it and keep going! I'm trying to get that lightweight Bruce Lee body type/physique!

I really did need this video right now. I'm currently on the latter end of a recovery path.
I was trying to build up to be a wrestler for most of the year, and last month I got a shot at a match. During that, I did something stupid and wound up injuring my tailbone. I wasn't able to do any kind of exercise for about two weeks because it hurt so bad. I kind of lost my motivation and fell into a funk. Now, I'm trying to get back into the shape I was before that happened.
That experience let me know I still have a long way to go before I reach my goal, but I think it was a reality check I needed. Now I'm motivated to really take training seriously.
    Thank you, Jax.

I had a knee injury from a SUV hitting me during a bike ride. I was told that I will not be able to run again. I Woke up in pain so often I was afraid to sleep. But I refused to get drugged up to num it & stopped running for weeks. I was depressed but I stretched daily. Slowly walks turned into brisk walks, jogging, then further. I learned how to keep less pressure on my knees running by keeping off my back heal so I did that. it took months to get back to what I was but today I am a stronger runner then I've ever been. I seen the vid you linked years ago, before my injury & that video kept me going. knowing it's possible.

Thank you very much for this video. I can also relate. I was very skinny growing up and for a long while, me working out and lifting was mostly to prove people wrong. Then I realized the benefits and found myself enjoying it and recently discovered how much I was letting other people's reactions to me getting bigger and stronger be my main motivator. And now, I'm doing it for myself and don't intend on letting anyone else have power over me like that again. Same with pressuring me to do feats for their own entertainment.
Keep doing you! And I'll keep trying and continue learning from you and others! ;-)

I just now recovered from a 9 month injury I sustained overtraining on track ,I did this training along side distance running because I was training for marathons later that year But one day I pushed my body too far after I decided to do a 10k after a grueling day at practice my ,my body was tense and needed rest but I was ignorant to it and ended up hurting my ankle badly to the point where I had to sit out my last season of track in high school . My endurance /stamina that I had worked for so hard through the years slowly depleted ,I became frail from my lean cut figure . This has been my first week back and it’s honestly been insanely difficult . I am grateful though for my injury because it taught me to listen to my body better and not let ignorance drive me to my own destruction . I’m determined now to be able to surpass my previous peak not only endurance/stamina wise ,but in speed, strength ,agility and other aspects in fitness before shipping out to the Air Force later this year . I appreciate your videos Jax they give me great insight on not only fitness but injury and the body’s limitations . Let’s make major gains in 2018 best of luck to everyone here 💪🏾🔥

I'm currently recovering from a labrum tear a week after achieving my first free-standing HSPU. I knew you'd gone through this very same kind of injury, so hearing your story and recovery journey has been helpful for just let the feels go.

Dig this vid man. I tore part of my municus, so no surgery, but running, and leg lifting were out the window. I got cleared last month for running, and lifting. It's hard though because some days that tenden pulls, and I can't lift, and such, but it brings me down to that I'm not invincible. So, it makes me feel good that I'm not alone.

I agree that skinny is not a compliment.
I used to be pretty toned & I got depressed & lost all my gains. People tell me I'm skinny because they think I'll like that since I'm a girl. But no. I hate it. Like you said, it makes me feel weak and frail. Like I'm an easy target. I want to be the kind of person that other people feel safe around, that can protect the things I care about, & being weak & skinny won't get me there. Thanks for another good video man. Everything you put out is motivation for me to get back to the best me 💪🏽

Just wanted to say I find you incredibly inspiring. I'm currently battling anorexia and I'm a guy, it's something people don't know much about.Forcing myself to eat and working out like an anime loving weeb has helped me so much. I would be so humbled if you saw this and could maybe just look at one of my workout videos. it might be sad but I know that getting feedback from a guy like you is the sort of thing that will help motivate me to beat this illness for good. I want to be tough like a toon, I wanna be ripped, I've always wanted the brad pitt fight club aesthetic and with guy's like you on the internet I know I can do it, so thank you!

Great video man! About 10 years ago I was training for the Marine Corps Marathon. I suffered from a serious case of IT band syndrome and was barely able to flex my knee because the pain was so bad. So I did a lot of research on rehabilitation and put together a program where I can tack on the miles overtime. I made a good recovery and was able to finish the marathon!

Not too cool of a story but I once hurt my wrist while I was goal keeping and doing push ups hurt a lot but I didn't wanna stop cause I had a great progress and didn't want to lose it so i started doing knuckle pushups cause I didn't feel pain that way.
Also who else wants Jax to do Sanji leg day?

Awesome video! I hurt my lower back a couple of months ago when i deadlifted more weight than i was used to and didn't warm up. Couldn't touch my toes without everything seizing up. Thought i messed up my back permanently. Started gentle stretching and mobility exercises and now I'm doing bodyweight exercises and strengthening my core. :D

End of Freshman year, I tore my meniscus and kept it hidden until the athletic trainer at my school figured it out. I missed my sophomore year of wrestling, and came back and got a starting spot my Junior year just by listening to my doctor, taking my time with PT and training what I could train. Then I was able to really train myself to even better shape over the off season and win my starting spot.

This is an inspiration to see. Thanks man! I'm a powerbuilder type of person and after my 2nd powerlifting meet, a week later I've injured my shoulder. And it's still in pain now. I was pissed that I can't do any push exercises for a while like bench, pushups or overhead press with barbell or dumbbell. Still like you said, while I'm recovering, I can still train my other body parts like my arms, legs, back and neck.

Hey, this is something I can relate to. I broke my left foot's fifth metatarsal which is the slowest healing bone in the foot, and it was broken 2 additional times because it healed wrong before they surgically fixed it. It laid me up for about a year and a half so all I was doing was working on my right leg and upper body and then since it was only the foot I would try to do things with my hamstring and quad until it was recovered. It's difficult but it's something you have to listen to. You know your body best and you worded it great, as always love the content keep it up

Been dealing with an injury with my lower back/hips. Its been hard...really hard to deal with it specially since physical therapy hasn't helped much so far. (switching to a different place soon since I'm just not happy with how things are going where I am at currently. Its been almost 2 months now.) I've had some really depressed days since where I am injured makes it hard to even focus on other parts of the body. Finding this video today helped, I needed that little pep talk.

I'm a cross country runner in High School, and last year I had this terrible pain in my ankle, but I kept pushing off a doctor visit. We had our state race and I finished running a 17:41 3 mile. Then basketball started and I decided to go to the doctor. They told me that had fractured my ankle, and I had to wear a boot for the rest of the season. As soon as I got it off they told me I had to wear a compression sock for 2 months while running. And now I'm back, I actually beat my PR this year and ran a 16:56. Now I gotta train for the 800 meter dash. 😆💪🏃

But then i found your channel mate and at the risk of sounding super fanboy it did show me wat i wanted. Thanks to you Jordan i learned wat i want out of myself and i now know i can achieve it thank you mate

3 years later... ik no one will see this but i need to put this out somewhere... Thanks Jax for this vid
Cos I'm always hyper and in kindergarten they have naps, and I always move around so they put me sleep beside the toilet so I won't wake the others up. Then I would always act out cos I'm playful and I get punished all the time for things I did, I mean ik sometimes i go too far but I always get known as the naughty one. Then my dad also always cane and scold me at home. So I nvr felt a place where i can have peace. And in primary sch also. I would act out and just because I'm smaller and weaker than most ppl, teachers and others can always overpower me and just hold me down when i throw tantrum for being scolded unreasonably. So I swear to myself that I will nvr be weak again. And nvr be weak so others can overpower me again.
I also just broke dislocated and broke 2 bones on my ankle cos I did a backflip too low on 10 Dec 2019... Let's just say that after what was considered a very severe injury, I pushed myself and managed to walk in 2 months, half of the expected recovery time. now I'm just working on stretches to get mobility back. Once again THANK YOU JAX for making this vid, it really touched me.
