I didn't even know what a rim sling was until I saw it, but after watching youtube videos I am now an expert in towing and think that you 100% need a zip tie on there because reasons.
Casey, we all have our own ways of doing things, just because one person says it’s right for them it doesn’t mean it’s right or needed for you, if others put zip ties on their rim slings it doesn’t mean you have to do the same, if someone jumped off a cliff do you have to do it also just because they did? There is always going to be someone who believes they know better than you but hey, that’s their choice.
It’s the trailers you can’t use an impact on. The lug nuts on the trailers are greased and only tighten to 55ftlbs. You can use a 1/2 inch impact to zip them off, but you have to put them back on by hand and use a torque wrench.
Some of the new Milwaukee impacts have an auto feature... they'll full torque to break a lug nut loose, but stop at about 50ft lbs when tightening.. I have 1 gen older 1/2"... it's a tempting feature, but not enough to drop an extra $400+ on an impact.
Yes, there is a dimple stamped into the frame to create a crumple zone. The kinked frame is NOT factory, that is the result of the crumple zone doing its job
I worked for a towing company years ago. Towed a u haul that was full of roofing shingles from a tear off. That thing was ridiculously heavy. Top speed of like 10 mph. I've seen ron Pratt talk about the zip tie trick. Great trick. If you need it.
I worked at UHaul Repair Center outside Philly while I was going to college. I got the job based on my previous 20 years as an auto mechanic. I don't remember ever seeing one of those things without heavy brake dust all over the front wheels, both because people overload them, and, as any OTR trucker can tell you, they drive them way too fast. 45 MPH limit on the trailers, for example, clearly doesn't mean them.

Casey, that Milwaukee impact gun has multiple modes. That mode slows down so when the lug nut comes off the stud it doesn't get launched, in your case into traffic, and you don't have to chase them. If you don't like it put it on setting 3 and let it ring!

Over 40 years ago, I rented a 24' U-Haul to move from IL to AZ. I had so much weight that 1.5" of the rear mud flaps were ground away. Same truck got 4.5 mpg whether loaded or unloaded. There is along hill from Camp Verde to Phoenix where my top speed was 17mph, in 2nd gear. I could wind it out and go 20mph, bang 3rd, but it would just slow down. It was a very long trip!
That climb out of Verde Valley is horrendous. But for as long as I can remember, we call the climb from Black Canyon City to Sunset Point "U-haul hill" for all the slow trucks on it.
If that u-haul is as unevenly (poorly) loaded as it looks, it's going to be a bit dicey taking it back to where it needs to go for salvage. Best of luck with that chore, and please be careful.
If it was legally rented, uhaul will empty the contents into a storage unit for you after an accident. Though idk if that happens with a DUI. Happened to a buddy when a trailer shredded a tire and rolled onto its side. They wouldn't let him empty it at the accident. They took the whole trailer back. Itemized the contents, emptied it into a storage unit. They had someone there when he retrieved them and documented anything that was damaged. They paid for everything damaged, including the uhaul cardboard boxes.
I had originally thought that you need to carry an aluminum pipe wrench with you - great for adjusting bumpers. Then you proved me wrong with the blue cable on the Zacklift 😁
Hi casey new sub... love how you adress the comments you receive!!! Keep it up. Like everyone else thats my opinion... oh btw thank your buddy cause water came out my nose a few videos ago when you helped that couple with the truck camper dually and 😂he hit that brake cleaner can of the vice... friggin a riot!!!

Always enjoy the videos Casey. My milwaukee does the weird low speed no load thing on a setting near the battery. When mine is on #3 it goes full speed all the time.
It's sad that people also forget that Ron always says there's many ways to count to 10, and the way he did it isn't going to be how everyone did it. The way things work for him are for him and not for everyone.
Looked easy, but not so, really beaten up, glad I’m not the owner. On another note, I admire your patience in responding to folks who watch one video on towing and believe there is only one way to carry out a task, when every tow is different.
We viewers like myself don't realize that when you take a lot of your tows to people you have to drive over a mountain to deliver the job, I'm from Illinois and our state is flat, thx for the video it was great 👍
What in tarnation do they have in that thing? The amount of damage is impressive to say the least. Does a 6 ton truck (which I think that is, roughly) need to go over the scales in the US? That is going to be a very expensive dumb day's work for the driver/renter, get drunk and hit a power pole in a U-Haul, smart.
I wonder could Casey run it over a convenient roadside scale when he's taking it to its eventual destination? It'd be interesting to find out how heavily it was (over)loaded.
It's complicated by being a household moving rental as well. Some states yes, some not until 26,000 pounds GVWR which consumer rentals keep them under.
@@CaseyLaDelle I would have said the most impressive thing is that the uhaul box appeared to be relatively unscathed. I imagine they could just roll a new chassis under it and send it back out into the world.
Casey, if you didn’t already know, you can adjust the power level on the impact. The setting it’s on only gives you all the beans when it senses tension. There’s a button to adjust it to a higher power level for all the beans all the time.
That Milwaukee has 4 settings. Your running on setting 4 which has the attributes you mentioned. Setting 3 is high torque without the soft start and what not.
I think you should put a zip tie on your rim sling just so you can say, " see, I didn't need that" every time you use it! Great video....except for when it wasn't! (missing footage!)

Ron Pratt also says something like, there’s multiple ways to reach 10. So apparently the rim sling zip tie group only partially pays attention.
I was just going to make this comment. Every video he makes Ron says "there are multiple ways to get to 10, as long as the job is done it's good".

I use the same theory in how I approach education. How I do things will be different because of how I think.

I am sorry Casey. Whether I am watching you or Ron or Pepe’s or Plaza or Sumnter or Merciful, you all do what works for you. I watch videos to just watch them NOT to criticize or be an authority. I may or not always agree but it is your video and you just be and do you. Thank you for what you do. 🙂
Huh.
Nice of them.
Love the vehicle analysis
I had originally thought that you need to carry an aluminum pipe wrench with you - great for adjusting bumpers. Then you proved me wrong with the blue cable on the Zacklift 😁
Casey WE need a 360 cam on top of the boom and then we can call it the WINCH CAM!!!
Tipping truck, forgot to record - bad karma from not using a zip tie on the rim sling!
Ron Pratt ... that was one of the 1st youtubers I ever subscribed to and because if his channel I found Matt, Paul, Rory, Merlin,, Mike & Shawn, Hector and You ... one big happy youtube community
I have been watching you so long that is exactly how I thought you were going to recover it.
Good recovery Casey...see you on the next one....stay safe
You are such a smart ass I love it
Casey's brain is pretty smart too😅😅😅😅😅
I want to hear him throw some shade on Josh over at Pepe's Towing. That cocky young feller ;)
Always enjoy the videos Casey. My milwaukee does the weird low speed no load thing on a setting near the battery. When mine is on #3 it goes full speed all the time.
Thanks for the video
It's sad that people also forget that Ron always says there's many ways to count to 10, and the way he did it isn't going to be how everyone did it. The way things work for him are for him and not for everyone.
this is one fun yankum episode! Casey overcomes the " stupid truck "
Looked easy, but not so, really beaten up, glad I’m not the owner. On another note, I admire your patience in responding to folks who watch one video on towing and believe there is only one way to carry out a task, when every tow is different.
That missing footage earned a repeat of your mantra, "I never said I was good at this." 🤣
oh o hat a mess, thanks for bringing us along on your adventure
Your long fingers are so great with rim jobs! 🤣
I enjoy watching you!!!
after watching your damage report regarding the truck, i’d say the most impressive thing about this incident is the power pole without damage
The concrete base stopped the truck. The pole itself barely took any hit
