As an adult it makes me smile to remember my 6 year old self absolutely terrified on this ride. I held my eyes closed the entire time. I’m 37 now, a huge horror fan and I think this ride looks like very family friendly fun. It’s really neat how Disney manages to help us remember ourselves as children and what that felt like.
I'm 36 and whats cooler is they kept a lot of the same stuff! I can remember this. I figured by now it'd be completely different.
Never understood why people walk through the gallery so fast. Take your time and enjoy the detail. As long as you're not holding up other people.
Cuz its actually an elevator the ride is in the basement. That's why the panting are getting larger because you are going down
@@moniquefiorecna thanks for replying. I meant the section between the elevator and the doom buggies. It's one of the few areas where you can take your time and look around yet most people walk through it as fast as they can. It's a shame.
Some Foolish Mortals are cowards.
if you look out the first window after the elevator you can see a few more ghost a secret i found out when i got to go out the entrance 1 year cause we hand a handicap person with us there is nothing out the other 2 windows i checked them all when i found that out
Some may be "regulars" who have seen it repeatedly, so they just walk pass ...
As a child I rode this ride so many times that I got a certificate saying I was the 101st ghost and allowed to record the full ride (back when that was not allowed)
The workers loved that this little happy girl in princess dresses was obsessed with the haunted mansion ride
You probably fit in with the dress like another ghost bride XD
Then you should come and visit our Phantom Manor
TWrose, Did you choose a career in the special effects field?
Fake
I’ve only been to Disneyland once but this is still my favorite ride
My favorite ride at Disney Land, I met my wife at Disney Land, the first time I ever kissed my wife was on this ride. I met my wife when I was 16 years old, I am now 58 awesome memories , love you
Betty.!
Any one remember the Mickey mouse theater that used to be
There???
ok ummmmm
That is precious! What a happy memory!
That is the sweetest. 💕
Dude, you didn't get the idea of the ride. It's supposed to take more people to the world of the Dead, not more people to the world of the living!! *wink, wink*
Dumb joke aside.. congratulations!! You sound like couple goals in my book ❤️
The ghosts dancing in the ballroom remind me of "Anastasia"-with "Once Upon a December"
Me too!! They look alike!!
I'd like to think they took inspiration from the Haunted Mansion
Gosh! You're Right!
Same here! Too bad Disney didn’t make the movie otherwise it would be cool if they made something like this for the Anastasia movie
@@enjoyingmyvodka1013 But, they acquired the rights to it, so we may get a ride someday.
I visited the Haunted Mansion when I first moved to Los Angeles. Little did I know it was the first year for this ride. I was mesmerized by it and all these years later I still am.
My parents got to go too. They probably went around the same time you did. It wasn't opened yet, but they got to get a sneak peak since they knew someone on the Disney staff.
It still holds up as being humorous, visually mesmerizing and legit creepy ❤️
It brings me back good old memories as a kid
For the record, the hanging man in the stretching room isn’t even the scariest part for me, it is the scream that comes after that does.
that was the same for me ! i literally jumped , covered my ears cus it was loud and also screamed in fear 😭
Do you have the 1969 "Story & song" record? With Ron Howard & Disneyland storytelling icon Robie Lester..?a real scary scream is used there.
Oh nice, they didn't mess up the cemetery scene at the end. Such great memories just seeing this video!! Always loved that ride.
I am so glad that they decided to leave the hitchhiking ghosts alone. The CGI ones at the Magic Kingdom look terrible
That explains to you about why you do not like the Haunted Mansion one bit.
I'm talking about Marx soul, not Tyler Mannor.
Yep
agreed.
I usually try to be pretty open with CGI upgrades if it looks good and helps maintenance and stuff, but I agree the effect with the animatronic hitchhikers is a lot more fun looking.
I mean I guess some of the ways the CGI ghosts can interact with you is nice but I really do prefer this one. Plus it looks more cohesive to the ride anyways.
@@SkuttIefish I wouldn't have as much of a problem with Constance and the CGI hitchhiking ghosts if they didn't look so dated
Nice to watch this and there's less noise by people as compared to older videos of this ride. One of my favorite attractions and cannot wait til I can get on it again.
*Foolish Mortals
Saturday, May 9th 1970. Went on a school bus trip from Desert High, Edwards AFB to Disneyland for the day. I saw the gryphon statue at the beginning of the ride and imprinted on it. So glad 50+ years later to see it welcoming the guests. Once a gryphon lover...
As a child, I was amazed at the design and interior..after more than a decade, seeing this again still makes me feel like they did such a great job at the artistry.
Omg same! Even tho i was so scared i really was impressed by the interior design and decor !
I absolutely absolutely love this haunted house! Use to go multiple times through it! I miss living in California!
Same here.
There’s nothing to miss in this state these days. Maybe just Disneyland.
@@flyhappy9712 sure bud.
This ride never gets old
When I was about five, the family was in reminiscing mode and my mom got to explaining what this ride was like when she was on it as a teen. My imagination was pretty enlarged then and how she described the picture room and the seats used to creep me out. It never left head. A couple years later, I got the Boo Busters VHS which has that creepy Grin Grinning Ghosts music video in the beginning. At the time, I had no idea some of the footage was a montage of the haunted mansion. Years and years later in about 2010, I finally went to Disney World and I found myself in the mansion. It was crazy. What I imagined and partly seen in that video all those years back as a child was surrounding and touching me, lol. It was pretty much in tact to how my mom explained it. Just a cool lil memory.
Love your story! Those rooms are stretchy, and sketchy!
I love Haunted Mansion so much!!!
Me too!
Same
Same when I first rode on it I was pretty scared but It was fun
Same! It's my favorite ride in the WHOLE PARK!
Paul Frees did a good job as the "Ghost Host". It still amazes me that they kept his voice through the ride, even after his own death.
I’m glad they kept his voice for the ride, along with Eleanor Audrey’s voice for Madame Leota. 🔮
@@princessmarlena1359 and the face of Madame Leota was actually the bride's voice. Her child grew up to be an imageneer, and said in an interview that, after her mom's passing it comforted her to hear her mom saying goodbye at the exit of the attraction
@@usagi18 Awwwww! That’s good to know, thanks!
It's because it's no longer a recording.

3:44 Of the safety what? THE SAFETY WHAT, GRACEY??
Omg lol!!!
The safety bar
@@disneyparksstarwarslover7638 hush child 🥰
@@birb.lma0 nice pfp! I grew up with Rudolph the Red nose reindeer.
Master Gracey is the aging portrait in Magic Kingdom, since it acts as a double homage to the he Picture of Dorian Gray, and Imagineer Yale Gracey. The Ghost Host does not have an official name, and his portrait can be seen in the Corridor of Doors at 5:08, and as one of the sinister 11 in Magic Kingdom.
I just went to Disneyland this October because I love Disneyalnd during this season, but I was really upset because the Haunted Mansion was Nightmare Before Christmas themed like they do from October-December. Don't get me wrong, it's an amazing movie and probably one of my favorites. But the ride was Christmas themed instead of being spooky, so I don't see why they change the ride in October, the perfect month for this ride, and make it Christmas themed.
M
For all you Iron Maiden fans......as you walk through the hall way there is a portrait of Eddie from Iron Maiden on the wall, well at least it was there a few years ago, don't if its been removed, but look for it.
That was kick ass I loved Iron Maiden
Somewhere I read that the gargoyles in the stretch room whisper "Stay together" as you leave. I forgot if that was only for the Florida ride, Cali, or all parks
I think it’s just the one in Florida. Never heard them say it in the California park.
definitely never heard it in california, so it must be florida. but with the enhanced audio in the new refurbishment in anaheim i wouldn’t be surprised if it was added in, it might’ve just not come up in the video because you can apparently only hear it if you stay a little too long in the stretching room. hence why they tell you to stay together, as in don’t fall behind.
The Florida one.
The part in the stretching elevator with the hanging person terrified me as a kid
Same. I looked up once and I chose not to look up again until I was older 😂😅!
2:18 "Of course, there's always *my* way ..." Cue ad. Who knew the Ghost Host was a capitalist? Haha.
I got an ad for life insurance AND AM JUST DYING HERE! 🤣🤣🤣

I got to go through the secret entrance into haunted mansion and experience this! This is great! I thought this was a one time thing lol. The entrance let us get through 30 minutes of waiting in 3 minutes!
Please elaborate
So- you had a fast pass? Thats a pretty basic disney thing to have lol- also a 30 minute wait is pretty short, especially for this ride!
There is an extra feature added within Disneyland’s haunted mansion where you can skip the elevator part of the queue, exchanging the stretching gallery scene for a little less wait time
I've never been to any of the Disney parks, but my dad grew up in California and this was one of his favorite rides. I was saying to him that I don't need to go there because there's an amusement park by us that I like and he said that the difference between Disneyland and our amusement park is the same difference between watching a movie at home vs on the big screen. I hope I can go one day.
I went on this ride yesterday and the whole wait I was just thinking it wouldn’t be worth it at all but it was amazing, an S Tier experience
Best part was the ride stopped during the segment around 8:12 so I got to vibe to Grim Grinning Ghosts a bit longer
Lucky you.
Now that I am a horror writer, I definitely see this ride differently! I love it so much!
ooo i would just sit and hear you talk about those differences! thats very interesting!
I have been practicing the ghost host dialogue and it’s a lot of fun and this is my favorite ride at Disneyland
Not until I was an adult I realized there was something there when you look up. ( 2:22 ) I always thought the room just got dark and it would get windy like ghosts were flying around you.
😶 that's a little... Dark.
Me at 4 years old: “mama this ride looks stupid!”
*my god what was wrong with me*
Haunted Mansion is one of my favorite rides and movies in Disney history. It’s a really good movie to watch on Halloween.
This ride is original it had no movie …are u talking about the one with Eddy Murphy
@@mmhmmmyearight7183 Yes. And also Nathaniel Parker is in the film as well.
Fun fact: There's a Muppet version of the Haunted Mansion on Disney+.
@@tiffanyt4005 they going to make the haunted mansion reboot movie from Disney
Thank you! I always loved the haunted mansion, but I live on the east coast now so I don’t get to Disneyland. I am planning on moving back to the west coast soon but there is NO way I’m giving into the Disney greed. Just to get in it’s over $100 (for 1) and now you have to pay to wait in a shorter line for the rides (the new genie pass) I’ll pass. Ok I’m off my soap box now. Thanks again for posting this, you have brought back many pleasant memories.
Thank you for the warning.
My self-imposed requirement at Disneyland was to visit enough attractions to bring the average cost per "ride" down to 1$ or lower. Long lines in summer versus shorter hours in winter -- either way, it got tougher as the admission price broke the 40$ barrier. The last time I went was the first of December in 1989 -- and YES, although it was difficult I was able to hit my mark.
I was 9 years old when the Haunted Mansion opened. It was my favorite ride by far. I still know the whole ghost host speech by heart all these decades later.
I was the same age and also know the whole ghost 👻 speech, including the few additional Disney world lines about the library
Yes, Paul Frees. That's what I like about this ride. All who participated in creating the Haunted Mansion are entombed there, if that makes sense.
I grew up in Los Angeles, and I was there for the first incarnation of this ride. I'm pleased to see it has only gotten better...
When I was five I went on this ride with my Mom. It scared the sh*t out of me! Especially at end when a ghosts face was superimposed on my Mothers and I was told that the ghost sitting next to me was going to follow me home. I started to climb over the side of the boat to get away from her only to be pulled back in by this ghost that used to be my Mom.
It was freakin’ magical, thanks Disney! I want a free vacation for the PTSD this Disney experience caused me throughout my childhood! 👻😮😂
7:47 : What people think I go through every night when I tell them I work in a funeral home.
This ride brings me so much joy
I remember as a kid that the ride got stuck right next to the hallway with the floating candle. Terrifying. 😂
Got stuck in the knocking doors hallway, the incline from the attic to the cemetery gates, the attic, the ballroom, the cemetery and the seance room (different times I’ve rode this ride, been on it a lot).
Got stuck in the gallery with the changing portraits in Disney World
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
is it even the haunted mansion without it breaking down at least once
IM GLAD SOMEONE ELSE HAS AN EXPERIENCE WITH GETTING STUCK! i got stuck at the part with all the clocks and the lady with the crystal ball 🥲
Awesome job with the light settings and not over-exposing 👍. Looks great 👌
"these phantom pranksters may try to follow you home!" I don't care if they do. I'm not scared of ghosts!
This opened inFL when I was 11. It got me into theatre and film effects in short order and I've made hundreds of wacky tv commercials using the things Walt taught me way back when... Including "Foreboding Way Alameda" an annual haunted house made from upcycled movie sets and props.
My parents have some ornaments that are based on The Haunted Mansion that are kept in the Storage Unit of my grandmother's former humble abode. We put them up on our 🎄 annually. LOL
So glad they didn't smear on some other IP. I love Nightmare Before Christmas, but damn it if they put Jack in the ride.
@Chris Moliere this is Disneyland, not Disneyworld
Don't worry that only happens in the holidays.
At most Jack is a little Easter egg like in Florida.
@@tanimation7289 unlike that hypocrite new scene in Pirates of the Caribbean
Love to see this, this was my fave ride at Disney Land last time I went (back in the 90s)
Just imagine what the holiday overlay’s gonna go through when THIS happened!
Only things I noticed was they moved April December's portrait almost to where you board the doom buggies. The skeleton trying to escape his coffin in the observation room doesn't move any more. I'm not a fan of the floating crystal ball in the seance. I liked it more when the ball was stationary on the table. No more popping heads in the attic scene. The return of Hatbox Ghost effect is a bit more static than I thought it would be. I noticed a a couple of mice watching the band play in the graveyard. They changed the center Hitchhiking Ghosts (the tall skeletal one with the top hat). Seems like they reduced the number of 'jump scares' to none.
The thing I took away from this ride and remembered the most were the ghosts jumping out from the gravestones. Such a shame to see them go.
i think that the removal of the stuff that pops up is probably to help guests that are easily startled enjoy the ride experience more
@@vbsenthusiast When I was a little kid, it was a badge of honor to ride the Haunted Mansion. I would just close my eyes if it got too intense. Same thing with all of the dark rides. (Scary) was the middle name of Snow White's Adventure. The movie itself is rather intense. They could have left in at least one popping disembodied head! What is this world coming to!?
@@americantoycoon9206 it's not just for young children, i'm assuming that it's also for guests with heart problems. if a guest with a weak heart is startled, it could cause a health problem. in addition, young children who are unprepared for it could cry or scream, which would put a damper on other guests' experiences.
@@vbsenthusiast Stop coddling the weak.
Remember that the first time I went on this ride I was seriously scared that ghosts would follow me home and that they said “come back” even though I knew about special effects and all that 😂
Why do they always to shut this down DURING Halloween to make way for Jack Skellington's Cartoon Spin?
Good call! If Disney wants the Skellington one, put it somewhere ELSE!
Definitely one of my favorite rides! I'm amazed you were able to film it without a bunch of people talking over the narration in the stretching room.
