      Yes any SoundCloud asshat can come up with a story to their song.
      But Iron Maiden comes up with a *good* story that is told *well* as it transitions with beautiful instrument playing.
      Cmon man.

Steve is the only band member that cannot be replaced because he created the band. Iron Maiden has always been his creation. • @sutekh233
      @sutekh233 6 лет назад +66

      LOL!!!
      Maiden is extremely good at it, but if you can listen to metal from the 80's-90's and not notice it, you are not doing metal any justice.
      Metal is the counter-culture to the "barbie world, greed is good" illusion of the 80's-90's.
      Many see metal as a scene of hopelessness and despair, but it is exactly what slayer once said, "we put it in your face so you notice it and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT".
      Here is your problem, fix it!!
      Metal has more hope and desire for the world to be better than most other forms of music, and that's it's real power, to make you THINK.

      I came back to rewatch this video months later after seeing a couple of the commentators say they think this was a negative reaction. This was anything but a negative reaction - certainly, it brought out the philosophical side in George and Ryan, and they definitely seemed to appreciate the poetry, skill, musicianship, songwriting, and artistry that went into the song, and found the whole to be beautiful, with the worst they could say about it being that it might be a bit dated, the subject matter not being not being to their taste at the time, and the song being something that might have to grow on them.
      I didn't realize it until I saw the reaction the first time, but Harris' lyrics, whether the song was contrived that way or not (I suspect not), actually do an excellent job of conveying the false courage and then all of the stages of grief the story's character would go through in the hours before death - you see elements of shock and panic, denial, anger, bargaining/reasoning, and depression in the way the character's words contradict what was said before, before settling on acceptance, before the character's life flashes before his eyes during the solos leading up to the death at the End....
      Obviously, this reaction was early in their metal reactions career, and they'd basically reacted to only a limited selection of thrash before this, so I wonder if George and Ryan would be willing to come back and react to this song again some day, now that they've seen a wider range of metal, and have had the new perspective of some time and distance to re-review the song with?

    Okay, I've never understood the need for these 'reaction' videos, but as a lifelong Maiden fan, I had to watch. Damn, you guys nailed it. Thank you!
    You need to do Caught Somewhere in Time, paying close attention to the guitar solos by Dave Murray and then Adrian Smith. It's unbelievably powerful.
    And then you should REALLY do Number of the Beast. I'd love to see your reaction to that masterpiece.

    Maiden has been considered as the "thinking man's band". Not as intricate as a Megadeth, not as heavy as Slayer, Not as flashy as Judas Priest... but if you know history, and/or read some of the classics, Maiden will resonate with you.

      To be honest, that sounds more like a band that requires a highly specific chunk of knowledge to be able to appreciate (similar to how some rappers require a highly specific chunk of knowledge to be able to appreciate). You can lack a highly specific chunk of knowledge and still qualify as a "thinking man", just saying. I'm sure you didn't mean your comment that way, but I just wanted to say this for the benefit of some of the readers who might be misunderstanding.

    • @StuBedaso1
      @StuBedaso1 7 лет назад

      I believe that by stating that a knowledge of history and reading the classics actually qualifies as a "specific chunk of knowledge". Maiden isn't incident specific, or tied to a certain location. History, movies, books television- all things that will, to get the full experience, require you to delve deeper into than just a quick google search, or a dust jacket review. So, I say, bring on the misunderstandings! Bring them on, but be prepared to do the research.

Take jazz for example, there is such intense skill involved and in a lot of ways you can draw comparisons to certain metal genres. Please don't be so close minded, you are missing out on a whole other universe of enjoyment and appreciation and your life will be so much better for stepping out of your comfort zone, just like anything else in life.

      Agreed. With most bands, there is really nothing to see. You just listen to the live music. But with maiden, the visuals tell part of the story.

    I can't believe I just found you guys. Hallowed is my favorite song on Earth. Iron Maiden is my favorite band. In fact, my name, TheTrooper97, is after their song The Trooper. I live in Vegas too!

      True story here. I was onstage in Elkhart Ind with my old band Structural Damage that night. We were taking a set break when someone came up and told me that Dimebag had been murdered. We got back onstage and announced that he had been killed and we covered “Cemetery Gates” in his honor, having only practiced it once previously. That night was the ONLY time we ever performed that song perfectly, with zero errors. G-d rest the dead.

      Act Of Arson you're a very opinionated person. No one should care who is better they are all good bands no matter what, one maybe heavier than the other and therefore these bands cater towards somewhat different audiences. No need to talk shit on one because whether it be Metallica, Megadeth, or Slayer, they have all wrote som killer songs. If I could give you some advice it would be to be more like these guys from Lost in Vegas. Open Minded individuals.

    This is classic Iron Maiden. What I love about them is exactly what you guys pointed out, their lyrics & music really drag you into the song like you're there living it. You also nailed the theatrical nature of the band, watch some live videos (or better yet, see them live) and you'll be blown away, I guarantee it.
