    Most incredible thing about this song is Dave Mustaine is singing while playing that incredibly difficult rhythm. It's not the left hand that's moving super fast, it's the right. He's banging out 32nd notes on the low E constantly. And it's Mustaine that also plays the really fast solo near the end. Marty Friedman plays all the crazy arpeggio laden leads and the quick acoustic flamenco style lead before the Punishment Due. You guys are right tho it's all extremely difficult stuff to play. Anyways, legendary song, Dave Mustaine is a musical genius.

      damn.

    • @heatherperleberg7816
      @heatherperleberg7816 4 года назад +27

      I wouldn't say the rhythm is extremely difficult or anything (at least on guitar, cant say much for anything else) but Dave Mustaine always amazes me with him singing, AND playing riffs i have trouble on without it. Another fantastic example is Take no Prisoners (or any song on this album), off of this album as well (also marty friedman is also imo one of the greats).

    • @declannash3435
      @declannash3435 4 года назад +21

      What will completely blow your minds is Mustaine and Friedman are playing those rhythm sections in tandem, very hard for one, extremely hard for 2 at exact tempo, first time Marty was ever asked to play like that, he was used to harmonising guitars..it is one of the greatest metal tunes of all time, if not the greatest..love their expressions, goes to show great music is great music.

      Dave's always done solos. That's nothing new. He's an incredibly advanced rhythm player, and his solo formula is if the rhythm line is advance the other guitarist takes the solo, and Dave plays the rhythm. If the rhythm line is simple, Dave takes the solo and the other guitarist plays the rhythm..

      It's a shame he didn't look after his voice when touring like most musicians did because it couldn't last a show when I saw them back in 2001, in fact the vocals ruined it. I love his voice on the studio albums though, always have.

      I've seen the documentary with Dave talking about, he fell asleep fucked up one night with his arm lent over the back of a chair and was leaning on it, he damaged his radial ulnar nerve and it meant he couldn't pull his hand upwards which ofcourse is vital for playing guitar. But with lots and lots of physical therapy he managed to regain use of the hand, but he had to kinda change how he played abit because it never truly came back. Similar thing happened to steve vai, he damaged nerves in his picking hand and hence he uses a kind of different technique for picking.

      That's the way I feel. We ended up with two incredible metal bands. It would almost be a shame if Dave remained in Metallica, to think that we wouldn't have David Ellefson's insane bass parts, wouldn't have probably went in the direction of the Black Album, which hate it if you want, but I'll fight it tooth and nail. I just think that in this case for sure, it happened for a reason. Mustaine was meant to do his own thing and Lars and James were meant to do theirs.

    I’m a lifelong metal fan and I play in bands but as a musician I like the whole spectrum and find something in everything.
    It’s clear you guys are obviously musicians or producers or something so to see you react so honestly, but also break it down the way you did, was great. Watching you get to enjoy something for the first time was just so much fun to watch. I really loved watching your reaction to the musicianship of what many metal heads consider the “classic” and most talented lineup / time period of Megadeth.

      yo I'm a bit late, if you're still wondering, the reason he can sing and play these rhythms at the same times Is because the rhythm pattern that you play with your hands is the same rhythm pattern that you sing, and that's awesome because I also thought it was practically impossible to play and sing at the same time. I learned In a few months, this song gives you the illusion that it's hard but only if you didn't lock in your rhythm with practice...

      Agreed. That would be awesome. But let's face it, many metal heads don't even like that much metal. They like the bands they like, and every other metal band are poseurs or sellouts, not trve, real metal. So, I doubt that the people I'm referring to will give much credence to other genres, when they can't even be bothered to appreciate the different facets of the music they claim to love so much. I, however, could be wrong. Just my 2 cents.

      However, I can appreciate and I also like and listen to some hip hop, blues, pop, rock, etc. I don't care the genre, If I like it I like it, If I like it too much, I give it a shot to the band. It IS that simple though
      Most metalheads however tend to be really close minded and some of them even throw shit to other bands and genres, it's really sad
