We can FEEL the disappointment from the video released earlier lol. We gotcha Metal fans! Second time’s a charm? Let us know!
Lost In Vegas AWWWW YEAH one of my absouletly favorite Judas Priest songs (or just metal songs in general)
Lost In Vegas I will spoof everywhere if you guys react to SLINT or BURZUM ! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Lost In Vegas entombed's living dead... Now that's metal... Would love to see your reactions to that....
The rest of the Painkiller album is just as badass as this song, y’all should check it out.
Also, y’all should DEFINITELY do a reaction to Judas Priest’s “The Sentinel”, it’s one of those songs that seems to be in every metal fan’s top 10
Lost In Vegas YESSSSSSS! Y'all need to do mastodon - oblivion and Tool - Lateralus next
Unwritten rule in metal: Never pause a song during a solo
Amen to that, bro
Or at all.
Right!!! 🤘🤘🤘
It's not unwritten when you write it
@@manuelrobledo8072 Exactly!
I wish more people were as open minded as you guys.
Their open-mindedness is refreshing.
This song is a go hard and fast type song. I think they take from this exactly was intended.
Amen to that Zach. These two guys are inspiring in their open mindedness and honesty.
@@m2karateman i like how they think about the music and complexity
I swear. It makes me smile every time I hear them say that’s playlist right there on a metal or rock song. Love you guys keep it up.
"Sounds like the Wicked Witch of the West on some Raw Shit" is by far my all time favourite description of Rob Halford's style haha
I know I love that
I think that Western culture, including rap and metal, peaked in the 90's and it's only been declining since. It's very sad.
@@John-X Definitely agree with that, rap still has some high points in the genre regarding specific artists like Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, and Big Sean but it's not like before. I'm not too familiar with the current metal scene but I often find myself just looking to past albums from new bands I haven't explored yet like Testament
(The Metal god) Halford is fine with that
@@Justin_GFM Though I'd argue that Testament have stayed pretty true to their style since "The Gathering" or even "Demonic".
One of the greatest pure metal songs ever composed. Mr. Rob Harford have inspired millions of metal singers after Judas Priest came into scene.
Even huge band like Iron Maiden felt nervous when they had a show opening for Judas Priest in late 70s. As told by Steve Harris.
Yeah but Iron maidens first album came out in 80, so they wasn't huge in the late 70's but Judas Priest were well established. Context............
I would say that it was one of the most influential metal songs of all the time, metal would never be the same without it
This song opens up as a giant kick to the balls! \m/
Halford is an unreal vocalist. He’s a legend.
Wolfatadoor halford is a metal GOD
You've got that right. :)
but this is ripper Owens tho. or so I thought?
Mastema The Dank Nope... Halford.
Mastema The Dank Jugulator was the first album featuring Owens.97 I think.
Arguably, this song might have the best entrance solo in metal music history.
Glenn learned to sweep pick ;)
What metal meltdown?
gewerh44 agree
Metal solo...
Holy Wars is arguably better my man..
fair one lads , i thought i was coming here to here a piss take of my beloved genre. yet your analysis showed knowledge and a clear love of music that it makes me want to go respect your genre. great video.
Yo bro! Im new to this genre and i love it. Any more bands i should listen to? Thanks a lot man!
manuel siaotong if you like this song they’ve reacted to, you’d probably enjoy Iron Maiden as well. Try listening to Alexander the Great, Hallowed be thy name, and Wasted years. Thank me later.
@@manuelsiaotong56 Primal Fear would also be a great band to check out. Rob Halford, the guy you hear singing in this song, left the band after this album and Primal Fear's singer, Ralf Scheepers, was one of the top choices to replace Rob, and he formed Primal Fear after losing the gig. Another German band by the name of Accept would be great as well (any era apart from their 90s output works fine).
I can name a few too. But its hard to find better lead than Rob Halford man. But yeah sure Manowar if you like warrior metal thats a to go band you cant listen to metal whitout not listen to manowar its like swearing in the church. However wefter that theres some good bands coming up Amon Amarth/Sabaton/ Månegarm.
This song just blows my brains out. It's so freaking epic, so loud, so aggressive. Judas Priest is just one of the best.
Painkiller is all killer, no filler. Hands down one of the greatest metal albums ever made.
itsmezed preach! I’ve loved this album since it came out. I finally saw this live on their Firepower tour. Painkiller sent me insane! That kick drum you can’t hear here was hammering on your chest. I loved every second of this song live.
fake news!plus you have shit taste in metal,i like judas priest, but painkiller best album???it's not even their best album, actually it's not even good album overall
If I rolled my eyes any harder...
In your own shitty opinion.
I mean, hes not entirely wrong. Stained Class and Screaming for Vengeance are both a bit better than Painkiller, but not a good album overall? I'll never understand why 80s metalheads continue to shit on Painkiller.
I'd be willing to bet that Rob Halford would take being called the satanic version of the Wicked Witch of the West as a compliment
This single song forces all the instruments to be pushed to the limits of their ability.
Definitely lol
save for the bass
And in a truly awesome fashion!!
That guitar work was pretty mind-numblingly brilliant...
Courtesy of Racer X/Paul Gilbert, according to Jeff Waters.
Dudes don’t apologize. You may not be using metal jargon, but your comments are spot on. This is definitely one of the best metal songs of all time from one of the originators of the genre.
Rob Halford is the Metal Witch of the North
This is probably the best comment I’ve ever seen.
Fuck yeah he is!
More like the Metal Witch of the Midlands
Caught Priest about a year ago. They did this one (I freaked) and nailed it. It was like Halford hadn't aged.
Witch king
The drumming is what is central to metal imo. If you are unsure if a song is metal or rock, look to the drums.
Noneofyour Business 💯💯
EXACTLY
Vocals too. If it's not high pitched, it's not really metal.
@@Kaligomalus not sure if that works for Death Metal
@@Kaligomalus Nah, man. There is a lot more room in Metal for vocal styles than for drumming styles. I'm a drummer since 1992 (on an actual drumset) and I've always listened to Metal. Lots of Metal, all kinds. There are only two bands I can think of that do NOT use double-bass drums: Iron Maiden and Bruce Dickinson's solo albums. There are so many different vocal styles in Metal though. It is true that a lot of it is higher-pitched, but that is not a requirement. Hell, vocals aren't even needed for Metal at all! Drums, however, most certainly are required.
Judas vocalist Rob Halford was the BEST metal vocalist of all time for me. He is a Metal God :) Dope reaction gentlemen!

Gustavo Contreras Get this man to top comment damn it.
J W Agree with you 100%. Rust in peace is megadeth at their prime. Not that the other albums aren't good, but they just can't top RIP because of how great it is.
J W: I'd give it a tie with Peace Sells. They're both great Rust In Peace is way more technical and progressive but Peace Sells is just... dirty and evil. It's got a little more "vibe" and a little less "studio" to it.
Too bad not a single one of those solos has any technical wizardry to it.
This is one of the best, and as a drummer, this song is huge physical endurance piece as well... it is like doing a marathon with wind sprints mixed in at the same time.
if you try to do some DEATH music ull be exhausted
Yet Scott Travis makes it look easy
"There's greatness in different."
Just jumped out at me. Great quote.
You guys are such a fresh air for RUclips. Bravo. I LOVE your open minded commentary. I'm a white metalhead. I hope you can introduce me to some hip-hop that I am sorely lacking in.
Music is truly universal. Look at this right here. I'm a hip hop head with a great appreciation for metal. I love music. Salute to you and all the free thinkers!
Dude, I was in high school when Thriller came out! Of course I'm familiar with MJ. Immense talent. Prince too (I saw Purple Rain at a drive in, lol).
Check out some classic or underground hip hop. That will open your mind up more to what hip hop was suppossed to be until the industry messed things up. Check out Hieroglyphics crew, mf doom, 3rd bass, de la soul, tribe called quest, black sheep, mos def, talib kweli, rakim, epmd, jungle brothers, leaders of the new school, freestyle fellowship, the pharcyde, public enemy, monie love, mc lyte. These artists don’t rap much about being gangsters or playas which to me is dope. They are more about creative beats and rhymes, upliftment of humanity, having parties without disrespecting women, tons of good classic stuff that the radio execs don’t want young people to hear because they want kids to stay lost.

Hey serious props to you guys! Great review, and I really appreciate your open-minded attitude. Big thumbs up. I'm a metal musician, and have been listening to that album for years. I agree that it's a "time capsule" song. You guys reacted to all the right things. Just goes to show that an open ear, even if untrained in a particular genre, can discern what is important. Rob Halford started out in the London Opera. He's a "real" singer and not just someone who can scream lyrics like some metal singers.
Perfect!
The greatest vocalist ever! I saw them in Las Vegas in 2007!

Rob Halford is the Metal God and Priest is the definition of Metal. Thank you for a honest review. One of the best metal songs ever!! Yes, EPIC!! \m/
Got to give it to the gay guy who sold wearing leather as metal gear to generation straight metalheads. To be honest I'm too young to know where the dressing trends originated but in my eyes it comes from legendary Mr. Halford.
Rob Halford is the best singer in metal history, he's the origin of the leather.
Ronnie James Dio is the other metal God.
You're absolutely right, Halford was extremely influential in creating the fashion for metalheads, and it does stem from his homosexuality. Doesn't make it any less awesome, he just expressed himself the only way he thought he could.
there is only one Metal God, you type metal god into google and one person's name comes up and that's Rob Halford.

And he prefers Megadeth over Metallica.

BABYMETAL is the Fox God.
Metallica is the most un-Metal Metal band out there right now.
Calle Johansson I'm somewhat a new fan of metal as a genre, I've been listening to a lot of Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Megadeath and Metallica so I'm curious as to what you mean about Metallica being un-metal. I'm just trying to learn more about the genre.
Downing and Tipton... Their twin guitar attack is second to none in my opinion. These guys influenced the Big 4 of thrash metal in the 80's.
The way they switched leads was so sick. No one did it like them.
@@webechubbin The whole solo in the middle of the song is all Glenn Tipton. KK plays the outro "solo at the end of the song".

These guys are bang-on on how they are talking about 80's metal...
Love you guys. I'm a metalhead for 37 years now. But what you are doing is connecting people in a world of hate. Thank you so much.
My friends, I have all but eliminated watching tv other then MMA and playing games when my daughter is here. I use RUclips as my form of recorded entertainment. Let me tell you that I smile more and get genuinely excited watching your videos. I myself am very eclectic in my musical taste and I feel it's important to hear all different genres and styles of people or cultures sing their inner passions or experiences. But I must admit that after over 30 years of being a die hard metal fan I now realize that I've been a bit stale and snobby with what I allow for metal. Hearing your interpretations and break downs have set me back on the level of appreciation and open ears as I had years ago. I thought I knew what I liked in metal and most else wasn't given a second chance. It's incredibly refreshing to now hear the things and nuances I accidentally tuned out long ago. I still have certain preferences but man thank you for uncovering some of the beauty that brought me in to this all those years ago. Sometimes it takes a rookie to refresh the mind of a seasoned vet. I didn't even know I was a metal snob. Sorry not sorry for the long winded shit guys but you need to know that what you're doing is very important for many of us. And I said before you're breaking down barriers and stereotypes in such a time of need for all of us. You guys are doing a solid and doing so naturally. Free thinking!!!!
Thank you Kevin!! We really appreciate it!
Considering Priest has always been "Heavy Metal" this song literally delivered the "Metal" goods. This band was getting a bit older at this time and they definitely proved that they could bring it better than any Metal band out there. You have to realize Priest has been around since the early 70s and their sound has contiguously transitioned to what you discribed, so appropriately, as the "peak" of the Metal sound. You guys are awesome to watch, love watching your reactions!
Collecting Soulz. If you compare this to their first album (Rocka Rolla) it's hard to believe it's the same band.
David marzolino lol...or Sad Wings of Destiny! Priest really is an incredible group. Peace!
The addition of Scott Travis on drums made this possible. My favorite Priest album by leaps and bounds.
K.K and Downing showing how it's done
now you know why Halford is THE METAL GOD!
HUGE mistake pausing in the middle of one of the best guitar solos ever performed!

kreshBACON incredible song!! Would like to see them react to Fear Of The Dark as well!!
To Tame a Land is one of my faves and very underrated song, but I think Hallowed be Thy Name is an easier one to start with for them, and also more representative tune. They also seem to enjoy a lot songs with rhythmic variations. But awesome choice, most people seem to forget that song.
Earlier Judas Priest is a bit different.. In my opinion Their second album from 1976 "Sad wings of destiny" the entire album is a masterpiece .
Man, what a fantastic album. Still got my vinyl in the collection. The Ripper was the one that got me hooked. That is one of my all time favorite albums, start to finish.
And see, as a guitarist......I'm taking Painkiller over Sad Wings all day. But the vocals on Sad wings are unreal.
That's a Great albulm by Them,
But Painkiller is also a very good albulm probably they're best
I feel the same way about Rocka Rolla
Agreed 👌 that album is a masterpiece.
With "Painkiller" Priest finally take us beyond our imagination as they never did before, to a realm of adventure and fantasy, fire and iron, blood and steel, rain and lightnings altogether, where the axe of gods slashes mountains and kills blasphemers, spreading the sacred word of pure heavy metal.
We can feel the raw and epic battle between Good and Evil they are trying to immerse us. Tipton/Downing guitars portray the sharp-edged swords, Hill/Travis rhythm section is the war drums and Halford piercing-evocative voice is the clamour of the battlefield.
Let's ride the chromium-plated metal horses raising the horns along with the rusty-armours knights and Priest to the head of the Metal Battalion through the dark paths of Hell. It's a worthwhile and never-to-be-forgotten adventure.
👏
And as of now we know that Ian Hill didn’t play bass on Painkiller. It was all done by Don Airey with a keyboard/synthesizer.
What an amazing channel you guys've got !
Painkiller is one of my favorite songs of all time and I loved the way you guys discuss the structure of songs, with an open mind and pertinent comments.

(now it makes sense, doesn't it?)
I gotta tell you. . . watching you guys react to some of this music reminds me of why I love it - it kind of takes me back to when I first heard it - I'm damned near 54 and heard all of it when it was brand-spanketty new and melting faces for the first time. Very nostalgic in my opinion. I really like it.
@@aggcavan943 Well, as ya can see I probably may like it much (look at my prof-photo). Especially this dark version. But I would be really grateful if guys let drawn something brutal that harkens back to the Patrick Woodroffe and his SWOD cover art. It was and still is fanatastic. Claudio Bergamin did a great job and is deservely famous for it, but I like Szaybo's (with the exception of Point of Entry - It is awful) and Woodroffe's masterpieces more.
For the older metal bands, like the ones you were talking about, it was much easier to be original because they are the origins of what metal is today as much as the hip hop artists from the 80's and 90's. Another great video fellas.
Good point!
Old metal has some neoclassical guitar rifs.. You guys seem to key in on that. It makes me think of some medieval times scene or Victorian thing. That would never be popular now.
Transiberian Orchestra is commercilaised mainstream overkill of this...
I think art has a tendency towards conformity. The more people like something, the more influential it's going to be, and most bands are always going to sound like variations of what came immediately before them. You kind of saw this in the Swedish death metal scene in the 90s, when bands around the country started bringing copies of Entombed's 'Left Hand Path' to the studio and asking the techs to make everything sound like that.
Then there's the fact that younger genres often have looser "rules". It's easier to get set in your ways and plot out what you can and cannot do when when your genre's been around for a while.
WillPlayLP I love Ghost.

Anyhow, the singer on American Idol was James Durbin (final show he sang with Rob Halford - lead singer of Judas Priest). If you haven't done so already, check out the late, great Ronnie James Dio....and the classic "Stargazer" when he was in Rainbow (1975 - 78 ish). He then fronted Black Sabbath and finally his own band, DIO. \m/ (and the "inventor" of the metal horns symbol).

You guys are the best!
Rob Halford is unique. Nobody can copy his voice. All Hail, Judas Priest!
Ummm ripper can still sing painkiller in it's original tuning. Rob can't even hit the notes in E flat tuning. Ripper can sing higher naturally and can sing low bassy vocals as well. Rob lost most of his high end snarl 2 decades ago. he still sings great but no match for Ripper.
That is an idiotic comparison, sorry.. Halford has been a vocalist for practically longer than Owens has been alive. Halford is over 60 years old, of COURSE he cannot hit those high notes anymore, its called aging. Happens to everyone (sadly) :)
暗黒騎士 Ankokukishi Coming from someone that loves Jugulator. Ripper is only better than current Halford at high notes. Halford ( past and present) blows him away in every other category
Cannot agree more, Rob is such a phenomena!
Ripper Owens at 40 years-old sounds better than Halford at 40 years old. Tim took care of his voice better than Rob.
It doesn't change the fact that Rob Halford is a God among men. I just think that Ripper Owens should not be underestimated. He was the best singer Iced Earth ever had (I said it. Fuck Barlow).
Halford is a trained opera singer and can hit and hold some extremely high vocals. One of the best singers out there. The reason you heard 2 different solos is Priest has 2 lead guitarist, K.K. Downing and Glen Tipton. Painkiller is an awesome song. Like someone else commented, definitely The Sentinel on the Defenders of the Faith album. A must.
rock hard ride free!
Painkiller fucking rules.
Anthony Helton He really isn't a trained opera singer... or even a trained singer. He used sing in a boy choir when he was young.
Exactly! His mother wanted him to be an opera singer, but things worked out differently. In opera, usable vocal range is very limited, because voice needs to carry over an orchestra. So, most metal singing tricks are not usable, microphone gives much more flexibility.
So I was wrong. I could have sworn I read that he was somewhere. It doesn't matter anyway. He is one of the greatest singers in metal.
Queen of the Reich by queensreich would blow your guys mind! It’s a total must!!
Bill Dobberpuhl yes!!
Operation Mindcrime too!
What I always find interesting about their reactions is they're hearing it out of context from when the song was released. This one especially. Judas Priest was a dinosaur when this album dropped. They weren't cool at all. Slayer, Metallica and Megadeth had taken over and started getting some real mainstream crossover and that sound dominated. Then out of nowhere, Priest drops this super hard, fast and raw record that combined their old school NWoBHM sound with the speed and aggression of what as popular at the time. But these Freethinkers here are just taking the song as it is, in relative isolation....
Yep - I reckon Halford and co were a bit pissed off when they dropped this absolute nuke of an album. They also got a new drummer - can you tell by the intro?
Like you guys said, this song seems exhausting to play. From EVERY instrument's perspective, it is. To this day that solo is absolutely one of the most difficult to play PROPERLY. 27 years later.
2 suggestions... Iron Maiden Hallowed Be Thy Name and maybe some old school rap.. maybe Whodini

in the top 3 metal songs of all time.
Judas Priest "The Hellion - Electric Eye" or "The Ripper"
James Scott Or fucking Victim of Changes.
Ripper Live Unleashed..
The Ripper!
Electric eye live!!!!!,!,!
The sentinel could be too
I LOVE the way you guys dissect each song and analyze it independent of other types and eras of metal. You guys ROCK. Great rap analogy too.
I love your breakdown and analysis of these videos!
You're exactly right, this is a time capsule type song. A time capsule type album. Often copied, but never quite duplicated.
Iron Maiden - Hallowed be thy Name.
Your taste in metal songs has been damn great in what you have reviewed so far! I, along with many others, promise it's an epic one!
Miguel Martinez ive been recommending this constantly.
Totally agree with the comparisons of older metal and hip hop of the 90’s. I thought I was the only one who thought the way I think and then I discovered you gentlemen. Love what y’all guys do!!
I love you two. No matter what you are checking out. Love your show every time!
Creeping Death - Metallica
my fave Metallica song, and oddly enough, a Passover-themed song, from the point of the view of the Angel of Death
Yes please, It's one of my favorite Metallica songs.
Yeah, only metallic can get a sea of people chanting DIE over and over again! LOL
It's a timeless song that I jammed to 20 year ago and in 20 years I'll still be crankin that shit up in my car!
Hit the lights, the four horsemen, battery, blackened and the cover from mercyful fate of garage inc album, and the wait
In case you didn't know, Priest saved metal. Fact.
How? Wasn't there lots of good metal bands in their time or am I wrong? Also didn't priest used to be a different genre?
They helped save metal in England from punk
Name others who played like priest?
They created heavy metal they are in fact " Metal God's "
Can stop watching their reaction to this song ..awesome!.
You two are so much fun and are doing a great service... love your videos...please keep it up...you’re adorable and obvious music freaks, thank you!
Judas Priest - METAL GODS!! No one can ever come close to Rob Halford’s singing. No one!! At one time in Rob Halford’s early career in metal he was asked to sing opera instead of metal, Rob chose metal. The rest is history.
Glow Show and the world was sooo glad
King Diamond comes pretty damn close, if not surpasses him, dude..
Ronnie James Dio can outshine Halford all day. However, now, only one is still with us. Holy Diver, by DIO is a perfect example of why he is the Knighted Best singer in metal.
Death.. crystal mountain
Andrea O'Hara YES!!!!! Oh that would be awesome!!
That would be a good way for these guys to start to transcend into the more complex stuff metal has to offer too
Literally came here to say this!
Andrea O'Hara dude yes!
Chuck is going to blow them away
I love your vids cause it makes me relive the first time I heard these songs too. Def keep up the good work 🤘
I love your honesty and self awareness. It's refreshing.
This was priest in their 40's
No way really?
Lou Cypher formed in '69
and now Rob is 67 (born in 1951) and I saw him last year for another stellar performance...
These are necessary sooner or later:
Megadeth - Tornado of Souls
Pantera - Domination (Live in Moscow)
Tornado makes me cum buckets full.
i love your videos guys, so original and fun, keep them coming!
Damn, respect for your realization about this beautiful genre. EXCELLENT, GREAT WORK GUYS
I can still listen to this record from beginning to end to this day, there isn't a bad track on there, like legit the whole record is glorious. Same with Screaming for Vengeance, just perfect records. Great commentary I love watching your faces react to these songs haha keep it up
Mutant Metal Maniacs The first 7 preist records you can listen to all the way through even though there area few mediocre songs but overall amazing. Stained class is the best.
Mutant Metal Maniacs deaths cover was my favorite
Dude agreed it's so good, at one point I thought it might be better than the original lol
Holy Diver by Dio please 100%
I would much rather hear Dio singing Black Sabbath's Heaven and Hell.
Ya that shit is too cheesy it's good but cheesy. They should listen to something from Mob Rules or Last in Line for Dio. Falling off the Edge of the World or Children of the Sea or Sign of the Southern Cross from sabbath would all be good choices. Dio's live show was awesome, glad I got to see it.
Lol Jump, Jump (Mario Boing) Jump on the Tiger!
sign of the southern cross is my fav sabbath song, id love to see them cover that
Good Cheese is awesome tho.It gives you Power.
Love that you guy's love this music. Everyone just needs to open their minds. Thank you for what you are doing....
Great reaction! Epic is a perfect adjective for this masterpiece!
To continue your journey you simply must enjoy - King Diamond "Abigail" - this is a classic in the genre
CaptSid Spaulding yes!
