The passenger compartment of the CX-5 remained stable in the frontal offset test. Dummy readings indicated good protection of the knees and femurs of both the driver and passenger. Mazda showed that a similar level of protection would be provided to occupants of different sizes and to those sat in different positions. In the full-width rigid barrier test, protection of both the driver and the rear seat passenger was good or adequate. In both the side barrier test and the more severe side pole impact, protection of all critical body regions was good and the CX-5 scored maximum points. Tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protection against whiplash injury in the event of a rear-end collision. A geometric assessment of the rear seats indicated good whiplash protection there too. The CX-5 has autonomous emergency braking as standard equipment. Tests of its functionality at the low speeds typical of city driving at which many whiplash injuries are caused showed good performance, with collisions avoided at all test speeds.

In the frontal offset test, protection of the 10 year dummy was good for the chest and the head. However, dummy readings of neck tension indicated poor protection of this part of the body. Protection of the chest of the 6 year dummy was marginal but that of the head and neck was good. In the side barrier test, both dummies were well protected. The front passenger airbag is automatically disabled to allow a rearward-facing child restraint to be used in that seating position. Mazda showed that the system worked robustly and the system was rewarded. Some universal child restraints should not be used in the front passenger and rear centre seating positions but all restraints tested by Euro NCAP could be properly installed and accommodated in the rear outboard seats.
PEDESTRIAN PROTECTION

The bonnet provided good or adequate protection to the head of a struck pedestrian over most of its surface. The bumper provided good protection to pedestrians' legs while the front of the bonnet showed mixed result in Euro NCAP's tests. The autonomous emergency braking system can detect pedestrians as well as other vehicles. In tests of this functionality, the system performed well, nearly gaining full points with collisions avoided in almost every test scenario.

Wow, I wish ALL manufacturer discloses their tests. I really like seeing these tests but I didnt realize its going to being bring flashbacks on my accident from 8 yrs ago. :(
I'd say good work Mazda! Here in Sweden the cx-5 and 6 cost almost the same! Of course the 6 has a better fuel consumption because it has a lower roof, but cx-5 are safer in case of accidents!

Mazda is the best manufacturer right now.
Just an FYI to potential Mazda buyers. I own the 2016 Mazda 6. Mazda makes great vehicles with better than average quality. Having said that, Saftey ratings are always great at first but dwindle quickly for some reason after the first year or two of ownership. My ratings went from '5 stars and 1 4 star' to a mix of '5,4 and even a 3 star' ratings. This caused my insurance rates to jump over $200 for the 6 month payments.
Alongside the terrible resell value on Mazda vehicles(I mean......KIA-level resell value), makes the Mazda brand a poor option for consideration. Mazda prices are only about $1000-$2000 less than their Toyota or Honda brand counterparts but their long-lasting quality, safety ratings, and high resell value make the Toyota and Honda brands just as affordable as the Mazda brand.
Having said all of this, if you are dead set on the Mazda and plan to own the vehicle for over 7 years it is perfectly reasonable to purchase it. If you tend to drive newer vehicles, consider a vehicle with better safety ratings and higher resell value like Toyota or Honda. Both options are geared to you saving money in the long-run.

floppeur89 Old mazdas used to rust like crazy. Im from Montreal and we love our Mazdas over here. They're everywhere and ive noticed that Mazda has fixed their rusting issues in 2008+ model years, BUT, no matter what, ANY car will rust if you don't do your annual rustproofing.

I just crashed into a tree with this same vehicle, 2018 Mazda CX-5 GT, last weekend in a snow storm. No air bags went off...straight head on collision going 40 mph on the highway

What was all that smoke from in the side impacts? I know there might be a little from the explosion from the airbag but that looks like a lot of smoke... slightly concerning

yep,mazda sure goes to be a premium brand really soon..however engines are underpowered..waiting for cx 5 with turbo for 2019
Tbf the CX 5 really doesn't feel that underpowered at all to drive. Not the Australian models anyway although I'm pretty sure they're all the same, the 2.5L turbo petrol on the CX 5 is somewhat powerful actually.

Yeah I turn 16 soon and i'll be getting a CX 5 as my first car but the CX 5 is best with a family since it's very spacious compared to a lot of other medium sized SUVs and is fairly luxurious for an average priced car yet practical. Also a medium sized SUV might be a bit big for most teens who just learnt or are learning to drive. I'm getting one anyway cuz I don't like smaller cars.

How comes my automatic system avoidance doesn't work. It never attempts to stop my car despite being close and not breaking. Here in the video there is a beep long before being close.

@@davyjahnke-alves5400 2018. Since then, I had one incident where I would have absolutely rear ended someone going downhill after the person infront of him braked hard unnecessarily causing the person I was behind to brake hard.
My car was slightly faster than me and it braked but I was right there with it to brake. I had to evade by steering into another lane and it deactivated once I did that.
I appreciate that it doesn't just lock up the wheel where you can't steer, so it worked well.

I believe the dust is a flame retardant because the charges can cause the fabric of the airbag to ignite. Probably not great to breath. I was in a crash in 2009 and my Ford Focus airbags release the dust, and I noticed I couldn't breath for a few seconds, so I'm not sure if the flame retardant is an oxygen dispersion or just a chemical I inhaled making breathing momentarily difficult.
