I own a Mazda 626 Sedan in Prestige Silver Metallic colour, 1990 model (fully imported from Japan) ... bought brand new in Melbourne, Australia as a gift from my father for my 18th birthday. He paid $32,000 Australian dollars for it back then! It's now 32 years old, has done 500,000 kilometres (310,000 miles) and l continue to drive it daily. Has never failed me. Unbelievable car. I cannot part with it. My first and so far, only car ...!! It still looks like new and has always been outside for its entire 32 years, so far.
    People cant believe it!
Six weeks ago, l purchased the 2022 Mazda 3, also fully imported from Japan. I am expected to take delivery of it at the end of July.
I am keeping my 1990 Mazda 626 (the love of my life!) and will never part with it and intend to drive both cars!

Lifelong Toyota fan. Was looking at getting a Camry, but their laziness in getting production/output to the customer made me look elsewhere. So, test drove, fell in love with, and bought a CX-5 last week-but not the turbo. Dealership was very eager to come off the price and add some incentives, So far, very happy with my new car, and the standard options are really high end. The only difference is MPG. I'm getting 25 city and 35 highway, but still too early to tell. But for $6K less than the Camry, I'll be able to pay for for gas for years to come, and break even. Thanks for the review.

Nice interior, super quiet and very good handling. A slightly stiff ride is the only negative aspect of it but it’s not punishing. I’ve gotten over 40 mpg on the motorway as well.

The only issue was going into a 30-40 mph head wind each way and it reduced the rated highway mpg by 10 mpg. I've been doing the oil changes at 5,000 miles with full synthetic and dealer sourced oil filters. Love the way it shifts and low rpm engine torque. I love how it drives and handles, I love how simple it is, and I really am not missing the features that I had with my 2014 Acura RDX even though I do miss it. also, with todays vehicle prices it is hard to find a functional and nice riding crossover for under $30k with 3 miles on it. besides that the lifetime powertrain warranty is national, so wherever I take it the warranty is good.

He also clearly seems to suggest, that if the turbo has some problems, it will be expensive to fix it as the turbo is so hard to reach in the car.

I have my 2nd CX-5. My first one was a 2018 that I was involved in an accident where I flipped several times. Very very scary and I was hurt BUT it could have been so much worse! I purchased my second one in July of 2022. I went with the Signature Turbo on this one for the 360 camera that was a “cool” feature when I purchased it. Turns out I use it way more than I ever thought I would! I LOVE THIS CAR! I know it’s safe. It drives like a dream. Like this review says it is super quiet going down the road. I actually prefer the control knobs for the infotainment system. I will admit it does take a bit of time to get use to using them over a touch screen but the location of the controls make them very convenient to use. I don’t mind the button to unlock the car. It just is what it is. However my husband hates it 🤣. I do hope the turbo proves to be a good choice. Only time will tell!

I have not noticed the A pillar, but I agree a touch screen would have been nice. I like the button on the door and push to start as I never have to take my keys out of my pocket. The only thing I wish it had was a telescoping wheel. I am tall and put the seat back for my legs and have to reach a little bit for the steering wheel. For reliability it seems like Mazda might be right behind Toyota/Lexus. Honda and Acura seem to be having some trouble over the last 6 or 7 years. The seats and the overall interior feels luxurious and very spacious. Never had any issues with the car, just basic maintenance such as 5k mile oil and filter changes, serpentine and water pump belts replaced, and a transmission fluid changed at 80k miles. I love the no touch screen. I hooked my car up to Android Auto and I listen to podcasts and music from pandora. I find it easier and less distracting than the touchscreen I had in my rav 4. I think it's safer. It takes about a week or so to get used to it but it's worth keeping your eyes on the road.
I absolutely agree with the key fob. More than once I've been unloading groceries with the fob in my hand and accidentally hit the power lift gate button. Imagine my horror as I hear a beep and that lift gate starts coming down while I'm standing under it with hands full of groceries. I'm sure it has a sensor so it won't crush me but I'm not trying to test that theory. Overall, beautiful vehicle, best in its class and I'm very happy with it! We bought a 2022 CC-5 Turbo Signature Edition 2 weeks ago. We love it. It rides and handles as well as a BMW. It rides like a good german car. It corners great without body lean. Steering response is fast and accurate. It is faster than my 2018 Mazda 6 Turbo. It runs on regular and premium gas. With premium gas (93 Octane) the HP is 256 and it can do 0-60 in about 6.1 seconds. With regular it is probably around 7-7.4 seconds. It is extremely quiet. The interior uses great materials and would not be out of place in a Mercedes. The rear seats can recline a few inches. The A pillar is not as bad as he said it is. I have had worse on my Acura CL S type. I have only noticed the suspension bounce on 1 highway. The ride is firm and controlled. It is not floaty or overly stiff. The car feels well planted. The infotainment system works fine once you get the hang of it. The 360 degree camera is great and useful. The ventilated seats work great.
My only gripes are the front seats, key fob and the interior lighting. They are not the most comfortable for me. My wife has no issues. I wish it was an 8 way seat. I am 5"9' 165lbs. The interior lights use the white LED lamps like many new cars and they don't put out enough light. Yellow standard bulbs put out more natural light and better light. He is right about the Key Fob. My wife had parked the car in a parking garage and came back to find the rear hatch open.
In the video, he commented on the speedometer and dials on the dash screen. I find them nice and useful. You can also change them with controls on the steering wheel.
The radio is adequate but if you use android auto or apple car play the stereo sounds great. It is a Bose system, so not the best. Bose is overhyped junk. My 2018 Mazda 6 has a Bose system and it is worse than the one in the CX-5 and sounds mediocre. In 2019, Mazda upgraded to a better Bose system.

You hit the nail on the head, "Red Stitches". The infotainment system can be used as a touch screen when the car comes to a stop. The knob must be used when the car is in motion. It is for safety reason that it is set up this way. The CX 5 we own is my wife's car and I have no problem using the knob when I am driving it. My comment is once you have gotten used to it, I prefer it over a touch screen. Using touch screen while you are driving is dangerous. If you are considering a CX 5, you will get used to the knob control. The bounciness of the CX 5 ride is because the suspension is tuned for handling. Try to take a corner and maneuver the car at high speed, you will find it is the best handling compact SUV in its class. It is the quietest and best handling in its class. But if you want a more floaty ride and have lots of room, CRV or RAV4 will be your choice.

I have a red CX-5 non-turbo and I love it! It has plenty of power, a quiet ride and the interior has a premium upscale look and feel with the leather seats and soft touch materials. It has so many safety features that it will make your head spin trying to understand what they are all about. The car reviewer is so thorough in his reporting and I believe the best of the best reviewers on RUclips but I have to disagree about the infotainment system. He doesn't like it because it's non-touch screen. And I like it because it is non-touch and so much less distracting.

I’ve always had Toyota and today I bought a 2022 CX 5 premium. I have always overlooked this car I don’t know why. My first impressions I was blown away by how quiet it was and how smooth the engine and the transmission shifted amazingly. Super sporty ,yes the ride is a little bit more firm but that’s OK I feel like I’m driving a more sporty SUV! I have told my friends that the M does not stand for Mazda it stands for Mercedes quality and amazing quality, like Lexus. If you have not considered a CX5I think you should seriously take a look at it. My first 190 miles was on the freeway coming home from the dealer and I varied my speed for optimal engine braking. And I got almost 36 miles per gallon driving not over 70 miles an hour.

Matches my thoughts exactly. I purchased a 2021 Signature 18 months ago. Drove a RAV4 right before buying the Signature and there was no contest, despite my preference for RAV4's styling. I had 2 Highlanders prior to my 2016 CX-5 GT purchase and haven't looked back. I hope the turbo holds up--suspect it will.

Many years ago I got Mazda 323 base, with standard transmission. I paid around $ 3,500 for it.
Great car in every way. Years later I gave it to my 16 year old son who drove it for a decade. I upgraded to Mazda 626, also with manual transmission. Another great, dependable, reliable, fun to drive car. I replaced the timing belt at 60,000. Then at around 118,000 miles it snapped near shopping center. I called a friend...he brought new belt and some tools and I replaced it then and there. It was easy.

Interesting commentary regarding the A pillar. A couple of years back someone driving a CX-5 made a left hand turn in front of me. This was despite them having come to a complete stop and then proceeding. I plowed directly into the front right front (traveling at about 43 mph) of the Mazda. The accident destroyed the front end of the Mazda, and my beloved Honda Accord would seize to exist, at least in the form of a car (complete write off). Anyway, your observation regarding the challenged visibility caused by the A pillar on the CX-5 helps explain what occurred that day.

It's not only about the pillars and the mirrors. Depending on the position you have while seated (the distance from the steering wheel and the height of your seat from the floor), it's a matter of only a few inches which may completely alter the view from inside of your car. I have experienced this in several cars during the past 20 years or so and the reasons behind this phenomenon are at least both safety features and design (including the thickness and curvature/shape of the pillars, even the size/shape/angle of the side windows and the windshield). It's in no way a phenomenon taking place only in a Mazda, it is almost like a standard feature nowadays in most of the cars on the market. I have had cars from the 1960s and sitting on the driver's seat felt like watching the traffic from an aquarium; I have achieved similar sensation during the past decades only in the new generation Honda Fit (Jazz), thanks to the thin A pillars and the additional smaller glass screens in the front corners of the windshield.

It is interesting. I drive a regular cab pickup, and a 2003 Beetle, which is like driving a fishbowl on wheels. Both have great visibility. I also have a CX-5, which is beautiful, and I love it. The visibility in the CX-5 my only problem with it. I'm a very cautious driver but there have been a few times when I had some near accidents, where I didn't see a car or pedestrian coming due to the thick pillar.

I love my CX5. Great video. I hate touch screens. Not good when driving. The knob control works better as you don't have to stare at the screen and your fingers are all over the bloody screen trying to touch what you want and distract you while driving, which is the point of the knob. This vehicle is for those who love to drive.

My husband and I have been doing our research about this car and this is probably by far the most informative review I’ve watched. The key and locking system is probably something we would need to watch out for.

I bought an HR-V the other day. I kept a 2020 silver CX-5 as my plan B in case the Honda sold before I had gotten to it, just because the Mazda was a couple thousand more and gets lower mileage. Fortunately the HR-V was a dud (the battery was basically exploded- didn’t start the first time I tried), and I was able to jump it and take it back to the dealer to get my money back. Now I’m putting the same amount of money into a 2018 soul red 2018 GT I found somewhere else. Can’t wait!
