You should compare the cx50 with the rav 4 base models.. I love those thick high profile tyres on rav 4 that don't give you a flat tyre on anything more than a pebble unlike higher trim models of Mazda No it's not sarcasm
truecar gives exactly same price with or without your link. plus they don't have all the trims that are in the actual showroom which I do not mind but I am really interested in X3 you reviewed earlier but it shows same price I tried different browsers, with and without VPN and also from windows n mac. same prices. does anybody else has took advantage of the this deal they talking about guys?
SEAT COMFORT - commenting because i hope this gets seen by the viewers (I own a new CX-5 Signature, I do work at a dealer, and sit in the CX-50 almost daily, reminding me the seats are WAY more comfortable in the CX-50, IMO) Definitely still happy with my choice overall, for my reasons, but I found it so interesting both of you mention the seats on the 50 so much, I can't stress enough, how much more the 50 seats are comfortable to me, over the 5. subjective it is for sure! like they said, go sit and see for yourself :)
As a CX5 owner, I would keep my CX5! Best car I owned ever! Reliable, cost friendly, good in the snow, nice family car with 2 kiddos! Damn now I own a puppy and I might want to consider to change it...
@@fug33 surface rust. They are better now that ford is no longer involved since 2013. My 2015 Mazda 3 has no rust on the body some surface rust underneath Yes I have had my car keyed and been sideswiped but no rust in those areas. nothing compromised and it has been cheap to run and own. Best car I have owned.
My husband just leased a cx 50 and he used to have a 2019 cx 5. The cx 50 has great handling, looks and acceleration, BUT i did notice there is significantly more cabin noise than in the cx 5. In the cx 5 i can have a conversation on the highway going over 85 whereas in the cx 50 you have to raise your voice. Also the suspension in the cx 50 is way firmer, bumps are felt a lot more. Cx 5 has a very smooth feel, driving over bumps you don't feel them as much.
The 20 inch wheels makes thjngs noisier and harsher I used to have a 4Runner with 33 inch wheels and never felt the road and noise was minimal. The wheels were only 17 inch. I’m thinking of downsizing my CX 50s wheels to 18” and maybe get a set of standard load BFG all terrain tires as they are strong, good on pavement and great for gravel and sand.
Just so you guys know. All CX-5s have that trunk lock button as well. It's the same shape as the the ones on the door but it's hidden where the license plate is located. Right next to the trunk open button is on the outside of the vehicle.
I have a 2019 CX5 and love it. I was a loyal Honda owner for the previous decade, but their transition to CVTs made me switch. Even if Honda went back to normal transmissions, I would stick with Mazda. Even though the CX50 got the nod in this review, I think I would still stick with the CX5. I may miss out on the performance enhancements, but cosmetically, it's just a much more classy looking vehicle.
“They force you to full headlight mode..” pretty sure there’s a work around for this. Car settings > turn off daytime running lights > turn light knob to parking lights and boom-cool headlights during the day. They’ll even turn on your headlights in darker settings. I do this with my 2021 Mazda3 Turbo and the headlights in the day look SICK.
Haven't even finished watching the full video yet and it's already the most entertaining and informative car review I've ever watched on this god forsaken platform. Nice job!
I have a turbo CX-30 and it is fantastic. Its also a very fast little vehicle and feels way more upscale and rugged than any of the other competetitors.I also like the cladding--its in areas that usually gets dings on it so it is nice not to see road nicks in those areas.
I was thinking of getting the cx30, then saw the 50...ahhhh... now I'm undecided. I like big because I'm claustrophobic, but have no kids. It's the cx30 big enough? I've gone from being in an accord to getting a civic, biggest mistake of my life. I now have a camry
@@prnurse241 I’ve owned 3 Camrys and I love that car, holds a place in my heart. I love my CX-30, but I wish I had a little bit more trunk space. I’m 6’2 and have plenty of room on the drivers side. I drive about 1300 miles a month for work and I’m very comfortable in it.
i looked at both when shopping and ultimately went with the CX-5. I really liked the CX-50 more girthy masculine look but what sealed the deal was that I am 6'2" (long torso) and the CX-50 has a lower sloping roofline so I just barely had enough head room when adjusting the seats to its lowest placement. I could feel my hair grazing the top. so annoying. CX-5 still had additional head room without adjusting the seat to its lowest position. Leg room is or about the same in both. IMHO, i am fine without the touch screen and grew to like it better just using the knob. Its less distracting. In additon, No fingerprints or smudges on the touch screen which can be clearly seen with sunlight glare. After learning the command center dial, I learned to appreciate it. it was just easier than reaching out to the touch screen while driving and after a bit, can use the dial without looking at the buttons around it. If they had both the dial and touchscreen available, i would still be using the dial. Tall drivers should go with the Cx-5. The turbo engine is better if you have a bit of a lead foot and overtaking cars on the pass.
Funny us tall folks are in the same boat. We all fit nicely in the CX5 but not in the CX-50. That was the same with me i could feel my hat touching the ceiling. ALso there is meant to be some big issues with the CX50 being as its first year. Also just to let you know there is an update for the CX-5 where you can use apple and android with touchscreen but not for regular stuff. Same in CX-50
Great review! Just what I was looking for. I spec'd out a CX5 Turbo vs CX50 Turbo w/convenience package and the price was almost the same (trying to compare same priced builds). With the CX-50 you get the panoramic moon roof vs standard moon roof, 20'' wheels vs 19'' wheels, heated side mirrors, a bit more cargo space, higher towing limit, a wider wheel base, and fake engine noise. With the CX-5 you get a more premium interior, power folding side mirrors, heated rear seats, heated steering wheel, and Bose premium Audio. I'd lean more toward the CX-5 as a daily commuter due to the more upscale feel of the vehicle. The fake engine noise in the CX50 is particularly annoying.
Idk if it was different for 2023 but, my 2024 CX-50 Turbo Premium has the heated/Powered (folding) side mirrors, heated steering wheel, Bose Premium Audio, etc.. The only thing it doesn’t have that you listed is the heated back seats. But the Premium Plus has all of that. I think it depends which trim options you go with for either model. As for the interior, the CX-50 is about as premium as the CX-5 and looks more modern. That said, the interior on the CX-5 did feel more solid to be fair. Has less “creaks” or play in certain trim areas. Unfortunately for me I was on borrowed time and couldn’t wait 2 weeks for more options to arrive at the dealer. The CX-50 has more interior plastic overall cause it’s supposed to be rugged or for “off-roading” which is bullshit. They should’ve marketed it as a standalone model with the same treatment as the CX-5 (another addition basically). As for performance, that’s where I preferred the CX-50. The wider + lower stance, wider wheels, stiffer suspension, and heavier steering, made it feel more sporty ironically. The CX-5 actually felt better over bumps, gravel roads, and longer drives. Mainly due to the softer suspension (multi link) and thicker tires. The CX-50 felt better on road when going through tighter corners and flatter surfaces. Can’t go wrong with either. But to your point, I do feel that you have to be more gentle with the CX-50 interior despite it being touted as the more rugged option sadly.
Yes, that is purposeful. The CX50 was designed for offroading, not primarily a luxury car. That means instead of luxury it emphasizes utility in certain areas. It wasn't meant to be a CX5 clone but a different kind of vehicle in Mazdas lineup. Most of their other cars emphasize luxury. The cx50 was meant to appeal to the Jeep/Subaru buyer.
As far as crossovers are concerned, I really like the looks and overall vibe of the CX50. Shame about the seats and the "butt licorice", though. The rental white paint on the CX5 is not doing it any favors here. What I'd like to see is a genuine, real-world test of the AWD system in the CX50 and how well it stacks up to something like a Subaru Outback.
@@forkthepork Driving Sports TV tested the off road capabilities of the CX-50 and found it quite capable for a crossover. They didnt make any comment about how it compared to the Outback, but I suspect they are pretty close. I have a Subaru, and it is great for slippery roads, but Subaru needs to up their game for off road use with some type of locker or limited slip rear axle for the Wilderness editions. I love the AWD of my Impreza, but Subarus are pretty much "mall cruisers" as well, although that is fine with me since I dont off road at all, only got the AWD for Minnesota winters.
@@edsmith9855 Thanks for the honest assessment. I actually hate when they try to compare offroad prowness.....when I think off road, I think of Jeeps, Land cruisers, or 4 Runners with lifts, lockers, and beefy differentials. I'm looking at a CX50 as a daily driver/grocery getter that will deal with Wisconsin winters.
I put a down payment of a 2022 CX-5 Carbon Edition in January and just took delivery this weekend. I've driven it all of 3 times so I'm still fresh but I absolutely love it. Full disclosure I got my CX-5 much cheaper than that Signature Trim but I'm loving the Carbon Edition. When I saw the press release for the CX-50 I was a little sad as it does look awesome. I have no complaints though.
@@chriscullom7994 "credit" but my build came with an optional "cargo shelf" that I couldn't remove from the build. I wouldn't have ordered it but it's actually convenient now that I have it. However I did want the Bose system but wasn't going to happen.
As a happy owner of a top end 2019 CX5 I'd definitely consider the CX50 for the towing capacity as we would like to get a small camper trailer and also for the continued familiarity behind the drivers seat which I really do enjoy.
Great review 👍 I'm a CX5 owner based on your reviews in 2019 and I'm happy with the car. If I had to pick one in 2022 I'd go CX-50, but only if I can manage sitting on licorice.
@@doubleaunboxing4697 I don't have a 50 either. Just Yuri and a few other reviewers I watched complain they can feel the stitching when they sit on it. At first I thought to buy a cushioned seat cover, but then it'll block the ventilation and heated seats, unless you buy a low trim version without ventilation and heat. I guess you'll have to go sit in a 50 to find out how much it bothers your butt and back. 😁
As current owner of a CX50, the review is bang on. Coming from CX9 (2017), I noticed the following: the overhead display quality has improved significantly previously it used to disappear once I put sunglasses. The 360 camera is perfect as it is impossible to see the front of the car. Actually, I was scared about the seats but they are ok much wider than the CX5 but harder than the CX9. Things that no one is mentioning is what written on the door label ''made by Mazda-Toyota corporation'' which is a very interesting selling point. My main disappointment is the fuel economy 8.8L/100KM for highway and almost 11 city is too much. One more thing, the wipers are heated, so for Canadian winter it is perfect the downside it will cost more to replace LOL. One fun fact, on a long drive expect some notification telling you to take a brake LOL
Only the people who does not know about luxury and design, choose the CX-50 that horrible black plastic above the wheels are just a joke, the kids choose the cx-50, the men like me choose the cx-5
You guys are hilarious! This is the most fun video you've ever done!! In fact, this is probably the most fun car review video that I've ever seen ANYONE do! Keep up the good work! YAY!!!
An intelligent approach reviewing the CX-50 against the known CX-5. Gives a good perspective on the car's strengths and weaknesses for those that know the CX-5. Too bad the CX-50 won't be sold outside of Nth America - a great looking car.
@@dpops42 Thank you for taking the time to comment on my abbreviation. I'll try and do better next time. By the way, you couldn't be bothered adding a question mark?
This video is so flawless OMG! the shots, music everything: reminds me of my dad's Bongo's from 2002, 1999 & 2015 (yes he had 3 of 'em ;) And also Bongo was his very 1st ever vehicle. While his other friends had Brwonie, Bongo, Civic etc. Wow those days!!! I'm so proud of him & how he became since then to now! 😍😍😌😌
I've been researching the 'CX-5, but after comparing it to the CX50, I think I'm sold on the CX-50. I like the wider look and handling. Can't wait to make my purchase.
I definitely prefer the looks of the CX5, why I picked up the 22 CX5 CE which has the most superior seats of all the CX 5-50s 😌, there are a few things I’d like to see move to the 23 CX5 from the 50 though mainly the panoramic sunroof, get rid of the piano black, and the 360 camera system.
Great review. I’m currently driving a CX5 for a loaner car while my Mazda3 is getting serviced. I’m liking it but I do like the aggressive, more modern tech stuff on the CX50. I’m going to test drive a CX50 once the markups are gone and if there’s finance offers from Mazda themselves. Thanks for the review comparison gentlemen!
Bought my first Mazda CX 5 in 2012 as a 2013 model. Loaded including all wheel drive. Was under powdered with the only engine available 2 liter. Just under 200000 trouble free miles I traded it in on a loaded 2019 CX5 without all wheel drive now in Fl. in 2019. The 2.5 liter makes a world of difference Just wished the interior was about 5 inches longer. This new model seems like they have been listening to owners of the CX5
CX-5 wins, hands down for me. Perfect size and agile/fun to drive. Wouldn’t trade it for the CX-50 or CX-30, even if they gave me over book. It’s sooo much better looking and a super well balanced vehicle. Love your reviews!
In my opinion, the CX-50 looks much nicer. The plastic cladding gives it a more aggressive look. This CX-5 (this trim level) just looks too bland and "white".
Thank you for bringing up the cup holders! I had a CX-5 and it was baffling the way that it was designed. The screen isn't a touchscreen and cups blocked off access to the only way to control the infotainment.
In as many yrs as you guys have been doing Straight Pipes, this is probably your best interview. EXCELLENT, and very informative!! And I like the concept of comparing two family members that are so closely related. Great Job guys !!
I'm strongly considering putting an order in for a turbo CX-50 😍 I just don't like the fake vents and that stitching down the middle of the seats, looks great but likely to rip. I might go with the CX-5, the only knock against it's design is the A-shape C pillar in comparison to the parallel C pillar of the CX-50
@@timothyandrewnielsen no, I meant this air intake/outlet vents on the bumpers. The air vent in the center of the dashboard has a little dip to it though, kinda "quirky" interior detail
I'm going to take what is probably the less popular stance and say I think the CX-5 looks worse with the color matched cladding. Maybe it's just a trick of the light or would look different in person, but it looks like the cladding and body panels aren't even quite the same shade of white. Or maybe the cladding is slightly matte and the body is the normal clear coat gloss. If they do have a different finish then I would also worry that over time the cladding will start to wear and look even more different.
Wow, this was the best car review/car comparison I've ever watched! It was so informative and entertaining at the same time. I love how both of you were truly helping review both cars as you accepted defeat in the areas that your car lacked a bit more than the other option (even though both cars are pretty great in my opinion). I currently have a Mazda CX-5 2016 with 100,000 miles. It has held up SUPERBLY, even with my recklessness towards it (like neglecting oil changes and what not 😅😬). I think for the upgrade, I'm going to shoot for a CX-50 2023. Love the more sporty look, yet with the same reliability and extra features like touchscreen infotainment system and panoramic moon roof. Thanks for the great review!!! 🤙🏿
I just put down a deposit on a CX5 that I hope to get around July or Aug of 2022. I looked at both the CX5 and CX50 but went with the CX5 because I felt that the differences weren't big enough to warrant spending the extra money to get things like leather seats. The CX5 offers leather seats in the Preferred trim level starting at $29k where as you have to pay at least $34k for leather seats in the CX50. I will also say that I have heard quite a few times that the Mazdas built in Japan are of better quality than the ones built in the US.
This revised CX-5 model was the first to include the S-curve seats that Mazda developed from their poorly named R&D study into seat ergonomics (they called it the Seat Feeling Evaluation - maybe just badly translated from Japanese). Regardless the seat first appeared in Mazda 3 and CX-30 and including in this model CX-5, most Australian reviewers are calling it a revelation and most likely one of the most significant upgrades. The study produced a lot of optimised angles that a body is meant to be positioned at for optimal driving. Might be a bit of ergonomic fluff talk but I suspect they’re using that study for the auto positioning seats in the CX-60 that ask for and remembers a drivers height then uses the camera to both detect the driver then put the driver in an optimal position automatically for both road visibility, distance from pedals and arm reach height. German reviewers have remarked that Mercedes had attempted a similar thing and failed so we will have to wait and see if the Hiroshima engineers can trump Stuttgart
We bought a 2022 CX-30 after going back and forth between it and the CX-5, both in top trim level turbo. We liked some things better on each of them, but the deciding factors for the CX-30 were the handling and the seats. They fit both me and my wife, at 6’1” and 5’2” better than the seats in the CX-5. More comfortable and better at holding you in place in the corners. But the CX-5 probably would have been a better fit for the average American butt and it’s amble proportions. I wish we could have also tried out the seats in the CX-50, but the engine in my wife’s BMW forced our hand.
@@michaelpaver3788 we're small and a family of only 3 so I think it's worth being patient and sitting in a 50 before deciding. Congrats on the new car! A friend just got the 30 too and it's awesome even in NA engine
@@michaelpaver3788 interesting insight. Great then than the new CX-5 pulls over the CX-30 seats. The "average American" probably also holds true for the "Average Australian". It would be nice if Mazda (and other Japanese brands) considered making larger seats for our regions given that body shape is one of their concerns. That said, my family is 1/2 Japanese and 1/2 Australian, so one side would not be looked after unless there was a happy medium.
Idk why automakers insist on basically low profile tires on a car geared more toward trail use. Stupidity. So they'll put the right wheel/tire combo on a more expensive "off road" trim level? Otherwise really like the cx-50. I have a Crosstrek which seems to be the car they're gunning for (Subaru in general)
I agree, it’s all marketing as most people won’t be taking these off road at all. The Meridian edition that’s coming out is their “off-road” version and I believe will have 18”. I would opt for the 17” rims on this vehicle in the lower trim models
@@ShawDAMAN I mean if you want a true off-roader older SUVs seem to be the best bet. That’s why I love my ‘04 Suburban. 193k miles and running strong and I can take it all over the Sierras without worrying about beating it up. Plus my kids love it 😀 I mean don’t get me wrong I would love a CX50 but my Suburban seems more practical (despite crazy gas prices)
Mazda sold their soul to Toyota for their hybrid patents, CX60 in EU and Asian markets. Cx70 when it gets to USA. It would be interesting tonsee of Canadia gets the 60 or 70.
@@NoodlesExtraMSG we will get the CX-60. It has nothing to do with toyota . Sure the hybrid system might , but the RWD architecture will be their own. Especially the inline 6 engine
For years I've wanted a newer car and the CX-5 was high on my list, but I did want a bit more space, so I'm waiting for that CX-70...Really like this video, and the presentation style
CX-5 is the best car I've loved ever since it's launched in 2017 but with the new CX-50 in this new color I'm kind of loving this new rugged looking vehicle plus the terracotta interior it is very appealing to me now. But I know you can't be wrong either of this two.👍👍👍🏎🏎🏎
After i spec out both the CX-5 and this new model. The older model has more interior space; height, legroom, cargo space, etc...The only difference is higher ground clearance on the newer model. But honestly if you watch RUclips videos of the CX-5 it is VERY capable off road.
You guys mentioned that you can't drive with just thr accents/halos but there is a built in cheatcode for all mazdas 2014 and up to turn off the daytime running lamps: Turn on ignition/engine off Engage parking break Depress brake pedal(must keep foot on during entirety of proccess) Turn parking light off and on 5X(ending on off) Press hazard button 10X Turn parking light off and on 5X again(ending on off again) Disengage parking brake and let your foot off brake. You're welcome!
I am a CX5 owner 2017 and it is my second CX5 and 4th Mazda. I love the plastic gladding because I think it make my SUV look tough and/or scoocum! Looking to perhaps replace it this year so I just might check out the CX50. Thanks for the great info
It's a bit unfortunate the CX-5 continues to just get refreshes and not a full update, although I can understand why Mazda needed to do this as they don't have infinite development capacity. The CX-50 looks better although the cladding is a bit excessive and the interior is more attractive, although frankly you'd only notice when looking side by side. I used to have a 2017 CX-5 and it was an excellent car, and I suspect the current gen and the CX-50 are both excellent choices. I would guess a new CX-5 out in the next ~2-3 years though.
*Coming from a new owner of a 2024 Mazda CX-50 Turbo Premium. Truthfully, the performance as far as 0-60mph times (on 91/93 oct) is the same in both vehicles (6.6 secs). But I have seen slightly quicker times from both. Normally in the 6.2-6.7 range (on 91/93 oct). There’s other claimed times of 7-7.2 secs but, that’s with 87 oct. In terms of aesthetics, the CX-50 interior/exterior is superior imho. As for the build quality of the interior, the CX-5 is superior overall. I feel the CX-50 has more unnecessary plastic trim and Mazda should’ve just kept it the same as the CX-5 (predominantly leather). Where the CX-5 barely has ANY creaks in the interior when pressing down on it, the CX-50 does in specific areas. Ironically, the CX-50 drives better on road with its stiffer handling, lower stance, and wider wheels. Where the CX-5 feels better off-road/soft-road, going over bumps, and on longer drives. If Mazda replaces more of the plastic trim/panels with leather, the CX-50 is a FOR SURE hit!
I love CX-5. It has a more luxury city look where the CX-50 has a more off-road look. And that all white CX-5 is definitely a looker (mine is also white w/ white seats).
IMO the CX50 *smokes* the CX5 design. Muuuuuch better balance over the wheels and the width makes it look stellar next to what I never before thaought was a top-heavy, too-narrow CX5 design. No brainer, provided I can used to butt floss.
I almost bought a new 2021.5 CX-5 last year Signature Ed. But the seats were not comfortable enough for me. So I did buy a used RX-350 as that vehicle was more comfortable, (less fun to drive of course). But since I'm in the market again. With this review of the CX-50 saying once again that the seats are still an issue, I will not be cross shopping this.. I very much hope that the CX-70 doesn't suffer from this same problem.. as that would now be the size of vehicle I'm looking at.
Had the '21 CX-5 and now the CX-50. Love them both. However, the CX-50 has a sportier and smoother handle. Have never felt the middle seat stitching personally but may depend on how much cushion you have.😅 Also, I'm tall but once I lowered the seat, I was fine. Haven't regretted the CX-50. The only advantage the CX5 has for me is that it is higher so is easier for my elderly parents to get in and out.
CX5 because it made In Japan. CX5 because it handles better. CX5 because the power delivery is on point Esp AWD. CX5 because it's SUV unibody design, while CX50 based on CX30 riding on the mazda3 platform.
Amazing review and comparison as always guys!! 🔥❤️ Love Mazda to the core! The true underdogs in this auto industry! Proud owner of my 2019 Mazda 3 sport gt! One thing I’ve noticed though is having smart key entry with the actual button vs sensors on the handles does work better and has less or no intervenes. With the button it works every time. With the sensor, if cars dirty and salt or ice covers the handle or if it freezes bad like how it can be in the Canadian winters here, it may not always work. Or if you got thick gloves or gloves in general on and you place your hand on the handle it may not always sense it right. (Had that happen few times too) Have plenty of decisions now for when I trade in to a crossover! Thank you both for your amazing video! Can’t wait for the next one! 🔥🙌🏾
From what I’ve noticed it does work great but have had times where it wouldn’t work so will prob have to get it checked out and see why it doesn’t work sometimes on the drivers door. Passenger door sensor and hatch sensor are fully in tact and works amazingly! And side note the auto proximity lock is truly amazing as well! It works a tad better then Honda’s/Acura’s auto proximity lock.
I really wanted to get the Cx5 back in 2018 but ended up getting Santa Fe sport 2.0t for 2 reasons. One it was bigger and more spacious , while Cx5 nailed the handling for an suv the power in the vehicle was not that great. They didn’t have a turbo in it. I was happy when the turbo came but didn’t solve the weight issue but the cs50 is exactly what I wanted in the car.
The 2017 CX-5 I drove had those same seats with the annoying stitching in the middle. I always thought the CX-5 needed wheel arches to complete the good looks. But, I also would love an option in the CX-50 to have it without the cladding. Also, the sunroof in the CX-5 I drove had a really annoying buffering noise when it was open and driving around 35 to 40 mph that was a deal breaker for me. The CX-50 has a larger sunroof. So, it might not happen in that car? So, get a different seat option and have an option without body cladding, and I would get the CX-50.
I honestly dig the plastic, since I go camping/hiking/off-road trails. Looking at new cars, I always have to think about maybe wrapping the body near the wheel wells. Worry about bushes and stuff scratching it, etc.
I have a 2016 CX5 and absolutely love it! It drives, handles, rides and fit perfectly. And that's all I need. I'm never taking my car off road and the height is purfect. You make your chose which fits you and life style
The shape of the CX 50 nicer to my eyes. It feels more contemporary. We almost bought a CX 5 3 years ago (Intead RAV4 Hybrid limited) now looking again at new cars and the CX 50 is a contender. Definitely took cues from Subaru Outback...
Great review as always, guys. I'm curious, in Off Road mode, is AWD full-time on the CX50, or is it computer controlled "on-demand" like the CX5? I drive a CX5 and love it, but have always wished that Mazda would give the driver the option of TRUE on-demand AWD...
I loved this video! You guys are hilarious! But, dang, the new CX 50 is almost as long as my 2010 RX! The CX5 that still looks beautiful would fit a lot easier in my small garage!🤷♀️
Great review! I own a Mazda3 premium and I have a solution for not turning on the DRLs. Mazda has an option to turn off the DRLs (which in this case is the main headlight) and manually you can turn on the parking lights. This will turn only the white LEDs on without the headlights turns off. Works flawlessly. Slightly confusing but works like a charm!
I did the same thing with my Mazda3 Premium, but then I started to think if people thought my headlights were on because it also turns on the rear parking lights as if your headlights are on.
Love the look of both, drove the CX-5 as a rental for nearly a month and loved it but felt it looked and was just a bit too small for me (6’4” here). The CX-50 looks perfect!
The CX-5 is made in 🇯🇵 and the CX-50 is made in Alabama. I think that in this case, I agree with Scotty (the car mechanic) who claims that cars made in Japan are better quality. And although I don't think the CX-50 is ugly, it certainly is not as elegant as the CX-5.
We just bought a 2022 CX 5 Signature Edition after driving the CX 50 turbo. It seems that most comparison reviews are pretty good at expressing the metrics of the two vehicles plus some driving impressions but never get at the true difference between the two. Like excellent chefs, Mazda has served up two very different styles of the same dish. Sure, one is more urban and the other is more outdoors oriented but they also are two completely different driving feels. The CX 5 is a nimble euro inspired world car. Ride compliance and driving dynamics of the signature trim serve up a kind of value version of an Audi Q5 or BMW x3. Even the layout and cargo capacity are close to the former. On the other hand, the CX 50 feels planted and slab solid. It's demeanor is much more purposeful than playful. It is easy to see why they are aiming it at the North American Market where trucks rule the roads and the back trails. This is not to say that it is truck like but, well, I hope you get the idea. I will add that Dan Neil would do a much better job of communicating the soul of these two vehicles then I. BTW, the Signature trim of the CX 5 is very different then the lower CX 5 trims except, possibly, for the Turbo Trim. If you really want a true luxury car feel, find the extra bucks to get the top trim. We had been driving Audi's since 2007 and the Signature trim was the only one that really started to compete with the Audi. We also got a $500 conquest discount for trading in a "target" product. (2015 Audi A3) Now if they can make their seats as comfortable as Audi seats.... I understand that Mazda is planning to go full luxury. The execution of the Signature Trim CX5 tells me that they will get there. Oh yeah, our new CX 5 is not my favorite Mazda. That honor goes to my 2009 MX 5. I'll probably be buried with that car!
Aside from being entertained with every single video, I'm now interested in Yuri's fashion choices, and I want to know where to get that Teddy sweater!!
I ordered a CX-5 last March and it arrived in early July. My GT model in soul red with the luxurious white leather interior looks very upscale and classy. I test drove several SUV's before buying and IMHO, the Mazda CX-5 GT is far superior than the Toyota, Chevy, GMC, VW, Kia, Hyundai, Mitsubishi and Honda. Although it might be chump change for some, 50k is a lot of money for me! I spent 3 or 4 months test driving and reviewing SUV's and the CX-5 GT was the clear winner for me. Now that I have it, I am soooooooo happy that I didn't buy any other. Honestly no matter where I go, I always get tons of compliments on this beautiful vehicle. It's only been a couple of months but I have absolutely "zero" complaints so far. Man this vehicle is so freakin' comfortable and luxurious! After eliminating the others, it was a toss-up between the CX-5 and the CRV. It should be noted that I've owned several Honda vehicles, ATV's and a Side x Side. I can easily attest to Honda's awesome reputation for making rock solid reliable vehicles, however, the CVT in the Honda CRV feels completely unresponsive - almost boring, if that makes any sense. Furthermore, the Honda's interior is nowhere near Mazda's caliber. I mean not even close! I expected so much more from the Toyota Rav4. Seriously, it rides like a tank and I found the interior to be poorly designed. To me, everything about the Rav4 feels cheap! Please do not be offended if you own any one of the vehicles that I mentioned because nowadays, every car manufacture makes great vehicles. It's simply a matter of personal preference.
Neither of the cars force full-headlights during the day. You can get the halo DRLs by themselves if you turn off DRL (yes, I know it doesn't make sense) and turn the headlights to the parking light setting. The lights still turn on and off automatically.
I would personally go with the CX-50 over the CX-5, though I don't think either one is a bad car at all. The CX-5 is a great car if you're someone with kids. It blends practicality and fun far better than any mini-van ever did. I personally own the CX-30 and for me it's the best of the bunch. I'm single, no kids, and I live in a dense city but I also love to go hiking and the CX-30 blends all of my needs perfectly. Honestly, all Mazda's are nice quality and you really can't go wrong with any of them.
Perfect! I had to see this before I picked. I did tested both, love the no CVT although 8speed would be more fuel efficient imo . I chose the CX50 because of the touchscreen on Apple CarPlay and the looks. But men these seats are hard 😂 . I drove a QX55 and think those are the best seats but the CX5 is right there in the compact SUV territory. Like they said, sit on both before you pick and because the difference is huge. I just hope they actually lose padding and get comfier in the long run….. A NOTE: Both of these wireless charger have issues. The coils get hot too quickly and the phone practically won’t charge. I m 90% sure this will be a recall ….
I drove a CX-50 today and it's bigger than the CX-5. The seats are extremely uncomfortable, and the stitching was like no other car I have seen. I liked the features, the panoramic sunroof and the layout of the dash. I just found it lacked the sophistication of the other cars in the Mazda line. I ended up driving a CX-9 and found it had a more pleasing ride and comfortable seats. If I had to choose between the CX-5 and CX-50 it would be a red soul CX-5 with parchment interior. I would love a panoramic moon roof in either the CX-9 or CX-5.
Aside from the fake vents, I love the styling of the CX50. I'm okay with the cladding, it's a little more shaped and reserved than that on the CX30, and naturally fits more the intended target of its design. For some reason I just could never get into the CX5, it just looked too bulbous and the front end on many trims seemed to be missing something to give it more character. As for the CX50, it also now seems like Mazda did compromise a bit on their design language by giving the 50 more of the Volvo XC or Jeepish look; but they have still retained the heart of their language over all; it just blends more with the market, which may or may not be a good thing.

You should compare the cx50 with the rav 4 base models.. I love those thick high profile tyres on rav 4 that don't give you a flat tyre on anything more than a pebble unlike higher trim models of Mazda

Yes the CX 50 has a firmer suspension being that is designed for off-road use
@@Americafirst-i8q Isn’t the former suspension due to cost cutting by using a torsion beam?
Build quality could be the reason. Japan vs Alabama
The 20 inch wheels makes thjngs noisier and harsher
I used to have a 4Runner with 33 inch wheels and never felt the road and noise was minimal.

I must admit that you raise some very important points. I never knew there were so many significant differences between the crossovers. Hmm…
Does this work in Canada? Anyone confirm? We've been asking Mazda how to do this and they keep telling us you can't
Does it actually keep the headlights off while in Drive though?
I put my full lights on for all driving conditions. Always have. Been driving since the mid 90's
I still like the looks of the CX-5 more, but the width (girth) of the CX-50 probably helps it stay steady in corners. Wouldn't mind either.
I much prefer the interior of the CX-50. The exterior, I do like the CX-5 more.

I may be the odd ball, but I like CX-50 looks better because it has that widebody look on it.

CX 50 looks a lot more rugged than the CX 5. I’m currently in a CX30 and I love it. I would definitely consider the CX50 as my next daily!
Same! I actually like to plastic cladding on Cx-30 and CX-50
@@prnurse241
I’ve owned 3 Camrys and I love that car, holds a place in my heart. I love my CX-30, but I wish I had a little bit more trunk space. I’m 6’2 and have plenty of room on the drivers side. I drive about 1300 miles a month for work and I’m very comfortable in it.
@@prnurse241 The CX-30 is very big inside--you feel like you are in a midsize sedan actually and the ride height is high.
i looked at both when shopping and ultimately went with the CX-5.
What do you mean fake engine noise?
Despite having an older design, the CX-5 has several areas where the interior is higher quality and more of a luxury car.
Spoiler alert, it won't keep up. These Mazda's are mall cruisers. Nothing wrong with that.
Did yours come with the bose system? Or did they give you a credit?
@@chriscullom7994 "credit" but my build came with an optional "cargo shelf" that I couldn't remove from the build. I wouldn't have ordered it but it's actually convenient now that I have it. However I did want the Bose system but wasn't going to happen.
As a happy owner of a top end 2019 CX5 I'd definitely consider the CX50 for the towing capacity as we would like to get a small camper trailer and also for the continued familiarity behind the drivers seat which I really do enjoy.

I really like this format of videos. The comparison style helps people cut a lot if time.
The wipers are heated? Hmm… I thought it was the windshield down low where the wipers sit in the off position.
What engine do you have? 8.8L/100km for highway is really a big number

Infotainment is slightly different. Cx-50 allows touchscreen when using CarPlay/android auto and also CarPlay is wireless

I'm strongly considering putting an order in for a turbo CX-50 😍 I just don't like the fake vents and that stitching down the middle of the seats, looks great but likely to rip.

That said, my family is 1/2 Japanese and 1/2 Australian, so one side would not be looked after unless there was a happy medium.

great video. Deciding between ordering these two vehicles and you have helped me make up my mind (CX-50 for me). Thank you!
LOVE THESE COMPARISON EPISODE FELLAS! LOVE FROM AUSTRALIA!!
Only the straight pipes can make me watch a review about crossovers. Good work boys
Mazda is on a roll I hope they keep coming up with new models with hybrid and electric vehicles and you guys keep up the good work 👍👍
On a roll? They're on life support
Mazda sold their soul to Toyota for their hybrid patents, CX60 in EU and Asian markets. Cx70 when it gets to USA. It would be interesting tonsee of Canadia gets the 60 or 70.
@@eganjos1 product reviews and considerable market share growth in the past two years would beg to differ
@@benjaminprichard9694 they are down 1.4% market share compared to last year and their balance sheet is a mess. But sure
But I know you can't be wrong either of this two.👍👍👍🏎🏎🏎
CX-5 launched in 2017? Huh. I guess my 2014 is a CX-5 pre-production model...
@@tycanuck are you genuinely confused? with 2 seconds of thinking you can realize he's talking about the updated generation
@@wat2875 "CX-5 is the best car I've loved ever since it's launched in 2017" Updated generation where? Troll.
After i spec out both the CX-5 and this new model. The older model has more interior space; height, legroom, cargo space, etc...The only difference is higher ground clearance on the newer model. But honestly if you watch RUclips videos of the CX-5 it is VERY capable off road.
LOVING that CX-50 design!
You guys mentioned that you can't drive with just thr accents/halos but there is a built in cheatcode for all mazdas 2014 and up to turn off the daytime running lamps:
Turn on ignition/engine off
Engage parking break
Depress brake pedal(must keep foot on during entirety of proccess)
Turn parking light off and on 5X(ending on off)
Press hazard button 10X
Turn parking light off and on 5X again(ending on off again)
Disengage parking brake and let your foot off brake.
Love all of the small, thoughtful upgrades and additions they made to the CX-50
Just bought my first Mazda today! Loving my CX 50 Premium Plus!
Congrats.
How is the sound insulation inside car? Is it noisy?
Love your new B ROLL... nice work guys (longtime watcher)
I love CX-5. It has a more luxury city look where the CX-50 has a more off-road look. And that all white CX-5 is definitely a looker (mine is also white w/ white seats).
I really like this style of reviews. Y’all are so funny. 😂 Thank you for the handy information. 🙏
Love you guys! Wish this was a regular head to head video though.
Jacob, you have an amazing watch collection! Super class 👌🏻 GMT II, datejust
Thanks!
Not sure if I would ditch my CX5 turbo for the CX50 just yet. Maybe the upcoming CX70.
Test drove both . Purchased cx5. Turbo. Cx50 had stiff ride, lower roof line . Liked cx5 interior
Is the interior on CX5 much premium as compared to the cx50?
@@aniketphatak6797 I think the seats are better than the CX5 in my opinion.
when Jacob talks like that, he looks like the Daredevil character Foggy Nelson 😆. Thanks for the video guys. You re awesome
CX5 because it made In Japan. CX5 because it handles better. CX5 because the power delivery is on point Esp AWD. CX5 because it's SUV unibody design, while CX50 based on CX30 riding on the mazda3 platform.
Amazing review and comparison as always guys!! 🔥❤️
Love Mazda to the core! 🔥🙌🏾
Hmm. Never had a problem with the sensor touch on my door handle on my 2010 RX in these past 12 years🤔
Oh man, I have an issue on a 2021 Mazda3 as well. I much preferred the door button as well
And here I thought the sensor was better! I don't have snow / salt here though..
I just got my 2022 Mazda CX-5 Signature and I love it. I've had it 3 weeks and I am enjoying it.
Love my cx5 turbo. Definitely changed my opinion on mazdas
The shape of the CX 50 nicer to my eyes. It feels more contemporary. We almost bought a CX 5 3 years ago (Intead RAV4 Hybrid limited) now looking again at new cars and the CX 50 is a contender. Definitely took cues from Subaru Outback...
There's a couple of ways to sit on a pepperoni stick... can you please clarify.. 😅
7:36 Not sure about other CX5 2022 trims, but the premium plus does have a trunk lock button tucked beside the number plate lights
Great review as always, guys. I'm curious, in Off Road mode, is AWD full-time on the CX50, or is it computer controlled "on-demand" like the CX5? I drive a CX5 and love it, but have always wished that Mazda would give the driver the option of TRUE on-demand AWD...
AWD is full time on the new Mazdas
Your video editing is top notch!! I love your reviews!🥰
I loved this video! You guys are hilarious! But, dang, the new CX 50 is almost as long as my 2010 RX! The CX5 that still looks beautiful would fit a lot easier in my small garage!🤷♀️
Update: I bought the CX50 two weeks ago!
@@RosalesMarcus Makes sense! But the front Halos look sick. Mazda should solve this in the future. Pretty sure there should be an explanation to this.
We just put in an order last week - Polymetal grey turbo let’s go!
Great video guys
Love the look of both, drove the CX-5 as a rental for nearly a month and loved it but felt it looked and was just a bit too small for me (6’4” here). The CX-50 looks perfect!
head room in the 50 is shorter for drivers vs the 5
@@chrisgavin2794that is correct!
CX-50 is wider and less tall so I would expect it to be more planted.
I'll probably be buried with that car!
i watch this video several time, mostly the white CX5 , its glowing and looks expensive under nice weather like this .
I like them both equally but I think the CX-5 looks more elegant
Aside from being entertained with every single video, I'm now interested in Yuri's fashion choices, and I want to know where to get that Teddy sweater!!
Mazda make great vehicles! Personally own a Mazda 3 and it's been fantastic, great value for money!
What do u think about the cx9? Thinking about buying one
Would like to know which one had better fuel mileage in your review when comparing
Great video as always
Neither of the cars force full-headlights during the day. You can get the halo DRLs by themselves if you turn off DRL (yes, I know it doesn't make sense) and turn the headlights to the parking light setting. The lights still turn on and off automatically.
CX-50 is a gorgeous looking car ❤️
I would personally go with the CX-50 over the CX-5, though I don't think either one is a bad car at all. The CX-5 is a great car if you're someone with kids. It blends practicality and fun far better than any mini-van ever did. I personally own the CX-30 and for me it's the best of the bunch. I'm single, no kids, and I live in a dense city but I also love to go hiking and the CX-30 blends all of my needs perfectly. Honestly, all Mazda's are nice quality and you really can't go wrong with any of them.
Did you get the turbo?
Damn... That intro was amazing lol thanks for the great comparison shots in the beginning!
I would love a panoramic moon roof in either the CX-9 or CX-5.
yup those seats in the CX50 with the middle stitching are not comfortable.Ended with a White CX5 turbo and very happy with my decision.
