As a Mazda sales associate, one of the biggest reason that I loose customers to other manufactures is the space. These customers claim the competitors are more spacious and that's why they go with CR-V and RAV 4. All models just need 2 inches of space longer and make the CX-50 just as tall as the CX-5 (the CX-5 apparently is tall enough for most people). Also, every model should have a signature trim with very distinguish luxury features and amenities. Rename the Premium Plus to Signature with unique paint options. Again, this is feedback from my experience as a sales associate and from customers.
I have wanted to buy a mazda many times. Recently actually, just bought my first Mazda3 for my wife. The first time around was 2018-2019 where I wanted to get a Mazda6 GT Reserve or Signature. At the time, there were just too many issues with the car, like the strange leaning the car does in corners felt really, really bad at the time (much better now I guess after software tuning), and there were serious compromises to interior functionality, like the arm rest and arm rest cubby being literally tiny and my elbow wouldn't reach, and little nit picks like that. Over all I wanted it, but Mazda wanted zero negotiation no matter who I went to. Even 2-3K off sticker I would have bought it. Ended up getting an XSE Camry for literally 10 GRAND off sticker (as I have many times previously). Tried to get a CX5 for my Boss, but a slightly used Lexus was going to cost about the same with a V6 and AWD. It just wasn't price competitive yet again. Tried to get a CX5 for my Mom, and yet again, it just wasn't price competitive, I could go to Toyota and get 3-5k off sticker on a rav4 hybrid EVEN DURING THE SCAMDEMIC. Finally got a Mazda3 for my wife, and the only reason I got it, is she is really short (4'9") and needs a small car, and this was the best value, and I got preowned instead of new since they wanted like 29 grand for a Mazda3 Prefered. Ended up saving 8 Grand going 2023 preferred hatch with 25k miles. Over all I do really like mazda, but there are two types of buyers. Those that want the top trim, and thus, over spend or go luxury brands, and those that really want a deal and will go with the better value for their wallet and skip features to save some money. Mazda sucks at pricing on BOTH ENDS. The base trims focus too much on useless features like rain sensing wipers instead of offering a powered seat. The top trims are priced way above what they are worth because you can just go preowned and save a lot of money or go with a different brand that offers more incentives.

They better not, I just checked and in the past year they sold nearly 5 times as many CX-5s as CX-50s. Changing the CX-5 into a Toyota or Honda will destroy their major source of income.

Toyota is so smart for licensing out their hybrid technology. They should go the Samsung route…Samsung manufacturers displays for other phone companies - like Apple - but saves the newest best stuff for their own phones. Toyota can really take advantage of their reputation in hybrids and dominate the rest of the Japanese market. And there is a still and opening for Honda to get in this game too. Their newest hybrid system is excellent.

I'd be a tough market to break in. Truck buyers are very loyal, and the truck market is hyper competitive. Consider the Nissan Titan which was axed. From what I heard, it was the most "truck"-like of the trucks. However, we know truck owners (excluding the few who actually use them for work) don't want a "truck". They want a large vehicle that drives like a car, but has the utility of a truck without ever using the utility
Mazda Z-activ engine: Ultra Lean combustion, when Chrysler used it in 1980 for gas mileage, had NOx emissions(ie, Smog) problem, since lean also promotes nitrogen to combine with oxygen, when carbon gets used up. Just a historical note.

Kirk, I don't really know about the "new" Arata design. It appears to me it may be too drastic of a re-design change for the CX-5. I am waiting on a CX-5 Hybrid that will possibly offer 40 MPG range. In the meantime, I may purchase a 2025 Toyota Camry. Time will tell. Happy Holidays to you and the family.
the skyactiv-X is actually very efficient. The skyactiv-G has a thermal efficiency of 38% (european version) with the skyactiv-X having a 42.6%. The closest petrol engine that comes close as far as i know of, is the dynamic force engine from Toyota with a thermal efficiency of 40%.
The CX 5 has had a refresh recently. The cx-30 has been unchanged since it launched... Not sure what they are waiting for.. maybe they'll just do a redesign instead of doing a refresh and launch it along the cx-5 redesign.
2021 and some 2022 turbo motors had oil burning issues due to bad exhaust valve seals. The N/A motors don't really burn oil as long as your religious with oil changes.
Hopefully the new engine will help Mazda with the design of the vehicle. The long hood of their current cars takes room away from the passenger/cargo box.
That’s because of the longitudinal inline 6 in the CX-70/90. Very inefficient use of space. Plus you can’t use it mounted transversely in a FWD platform.
Mazda need to seriously consider upgrading their new car warranty terms to compete with Toyota, Kia and Hyundai. 3 years and then having to pay for extended cover is outdated and definitely reduces sales penetration.
Mazda could probably keep the old CX-5 around for another 3 years if they shoehorn a Toyota hybrid drivetrain in there. They should have done that with the current Mazda 6 as well.
I would really like MAzda to make their greenhouse bigger in their smaller vehicles. The windows in the Arata are too pinched and similar to the MAzda 3 hatch, the CX30 and 50. They feel closed in and caustrophobic inside and I hope they reverse that trend. It alos gives them big blind spots and no, blind spot monitoring is no the solution, you need to be able to see.
Mazda only sold 34K vehicles in China in H1 2024, down from 45K last year. Compared to 42k in Canada, 49k in Mexico, 50K in Australia, 64K in Japan and 89K in Europe. Little exposure to the Chinese market might actually be a positive, but that probably why they didn't mention China.
ok so one of the few reasons I'm moving away from Mazda for my next car is how bad outward visibility has gotten. My 2014 Mazda3 was already a compromise, but these latest Mazda models really put styling ahead of practicality. If those concept pictures hold true, the next CX5 will have an even taller beltline. No bueno. I know it's 24 years away but my old 2001 Mazda Protege was phenomenal in that respect. A total fishbowl, making is tremendously easy to drive and park. No cameras needs; you just saw everything around you and were able to judge distances to much better. Now of course, passive safety has come a long way, but other manufacturers make it work much better. The 2025 Civic is really good.

They messed up by not calling the current CX-50 a CX-40 since it’s just a stretched/widened version of the 30 anyway. A true new generation/successor to the CX-5 would have slotted into the CX-50 nameplate much better with minimal impact to CX-5 brand recognition
Considering how reliable Skyactive-G is, making it the #1 reason to buy a Mazda, I don't know if it's a good idea to move away from it in this economy.

Mazda had a net income swing of $600 million in 1 year and reported a significant loss. WOW and you just posted a video about Mazda's sales "exploding". I guess it's like that old joke "We're losing money on each vehicle, but we'll make it up on volume"! I believe there is a lot of hurt coming for many automakers (especially if tariffs are implemented as promised). Many nameplates will disappear and considering Mazda's relatively small footprint, it may be merge or die.
The financial losses are alarming and must be partly due to the botched development of the CX-60/70/80/90. In North America the 90 intro was an absolute disaster and it should never have been released for sale in such an underdeveloped state. Lots of buybacks/lemon-law cases and recalls galore. Sales slowed way down and they needed big incentives to move them off the lots. Mazda execs should be hugely embarrassed.
The car in the photo is neither the new CX-5 nor the RAV-4. Judging from the design trend, it is one generation older, and since the photo was taken in China, it is definitely a Japanese car for the Chinese market or a car made by a Chinese manufacturer. By the way, Japanese manufacturers, especially Mazda, which also has a factory in Mexico, will face tariff barriers under the new administration. The same goes for Nissan, which recently announced the layoff of 9,000 employees due to poor performance.

The CX x0 series project has been a flop. Mazda invested heavily in design and R&D, including extensive efforts in developing unique paint colors which is a non priority. As a result, they missed the mark on some core Mazda qualities, such as optimized suspension tuning and refined transmission programming.

If im not mistaken toyota is using byd hybrid technology
@ Nope, Toyota is not using BYD technology. They have recently announced a r&d partnership with BYD to develop BEV technologies for the Chinese market.
@@blastu99byd? lol yeah maybe in a 1000 years
new mazda truck for NA market with I6 would be sick
I'd be a tough market to break in. Truck buyers are very loyal, and the truck market is hyper competitive. Consider the Nissan Titan which was axed. From what I heard, it was the most "truck"-like of the trucks. However, we know truck owners (excluding the few who actually use them for work) don't want a "truck". They want a large vehicle that drives like a car, but has the utility of a truck without ever using the utility
didn't help Nissan didn't market the Titan.@@michaelkovalsky4907
Unless they figure out a way to share factory with someone, it will never happen due to chicken tax and Mazda being relatively small manufacturer
@@ESJAI_SHARKY Toyota
Mazda Z-activ engine: Ultra Lean combustion, when Chrysler used it in 1980 for gas mileage, had NOx emissions(ie, Smog) problem, since lean also promotes nitrogen to combine with oxygen, when carbon gets used up. Just a historical note.
I just want the CX-60 in North America!!!
The CX5 is long overdue for a new generation!...Once that final cash cow is released and out of the way, I'll slowly start huffing that mazda6 comeback hopium...if my pf pic is any indication 🫠🫠
Just wait until the tariffs hit. Won't be so cheap
If they bring back the Mazda 6… add a pano roof can compete with the Camry & Sonata leave the Altima & Accord in the dust
I cannot trust Hyundai/Kia - too many continuous issues with BASIC items!
I thought CX50 was supposed to replace the CX5 but I guess we get both. Nice.👍
That has been common knowledge since the launch of the CX-50. Mazda said so explicitly.
@@Seriously140But we get both so it’s nice.
If they made it correct it would have. Too much like a station wagon. Also, I think the interior of the CX-5 is better than cx50.
I wish the Mazda6 would come to the US in the form of a sports sedan and sportwagon
the skyactiv-X is actually very efficient. The skyactiv-G has a thermal efficiency of 38% (european version) with the skyactiv-X having a 42.6%. The closest petrol engine that comes close as far as i know of, is the dynamic force engine from Toyota with a thermal efficiency of 40%.
I hope your CX-50 Hybrid review is good, put down a deposit for the next one coming to my dealership.
I am waiting to trade mine in for a cx5 hybrid. Hoping it's reliable
Photo of Santa Fe like car seems to be from China as the car is lefthand drive and driving on the right which is not the norm in Japan.
That is awasome....I wonder what happned to the proposed rotaty engine as a range extender ?
Wasn't the cx50 the replacement for the cx5?
Just like the cx90 took out the cx9?
Mazda should include Torsen front and rear differential along with aluminum skid plates for off road 😊
The CX 5 has had a refresh recently. The cx-30 has been unchanged since it launched... Not sure what they are waiting for.. maybe they'll just do a redesign instead of doing a refresh and launch it along the cx-5 redesign.
Hoping CX-5 hybrid mpgs will be better and closer to RAV4 hybrid mpgs !
I thought the 3.3L inline-6 turbo would be their last new gas engine so this is a welcome surprise
Does any one know if any of the newer Mazda still burn oil? Eyeballing one for next year but I’m getting mixed reviews
2021 and some 2022 turbo motors had oil burning issues due to bad exhaust valve seals. The N/A motors don't really burn oil as long as your religious with oil changes.
Kirk what about Mazda CX 60 ?
Is it coming to Canada ?
Thank you
Kirk do you no about CX-60 ?
Is it comes to USA and Canada ?
I almost thought I saw either a CUV version of the Ford Ranger, or a refreshed RAV4 with an inverted grille
EZ6 is developed based on ChangAn SL03 is a gas, hydrogen, BEV, PHEV, Hydrid all around platform.
I just want the new CX-5 to essentially be a CX-60. It's insane to me that they're not bringing that here...
I’m very interested in 5th gen mazda3. When will they hit the market?
I favor the CX60, an ideal midsize SUV. The CX70 and CX90 are excessively large.
I want a plug in hybrid Mazda 3.
well it's about time!
Mazda could probably keep the old CX-5 around for another 3 years if they shoehorn a Toyota hybrid drivetrain in there. They should have done that with the current Mazda 6 as well.
The interior needs an update bad.
I hope it's better than Direct Injection and the carbon issues.
Call it the CX-40. Help make things easier.
There is/was a Chinese market vehicle by Mazda already called that.
@@obhatti That's the CX-4
@@e.l.4409 darn it you are completely correct! A better nomenclature than all these alphanumeric combos would be great though. I keep getting the Volvo and Mazda names mixed up too!
Mazda still not able to discontinue the old CX-5 keeps making the new CX-50 look like a failure.... 🤐
Was never meant to replace it.
Its just a rugged versión of it
@MrDavidRicketts Except it's not "rugged".
@@4orrcountry😂
Just got a 25 cx50. Gkad i did before they try a new engine. I dont like being a guinea pig 😕. The sky active G is so good n reliable. Why mess w a good thing. Its already class leading hp and good fuel efficacy
Mazda might as well bring the CX-60 to America & bring back the Mazda 6 w/ the new tech
Mazda needs to firm up the CX-5 suspension. I drove a 2024 CX-5 (non-turbo) and it felt sloppy compared to my 2015.
Great, now make one of the midsize models 5 inches longer and give it to back seat legroom...
The new CX-5 can’t come soon enough.
please wait no more, wait for Mazda 6, line 6 in 2025, hope they come to USA Hybrid
They should call it CX-40 to better fit with the naming scheme of the rest of the lineup.
Losing that brand recognition could really hurt them though.
This is 100% mazda the reason the shape of emblem match 100% mazda emblem also the size of license plate look like American license plate with amber front reflecter ( EPA regulation ) , china have blue stretching shape license plate
I have a feeling we are going to be disappointed with the design and possibly being made in America. My hope is the reliablity/qualtiy and design will impress me. Fingers crossed hybrid is like Raav4 but betta!
New this, new that, +5K!
Any news/updates/comments on CX70 recall?
smooth transition between gas engine and battery power? smooth transmission?
Happy to see them duping the 2.5 especially the naturally aspirated. The engine is like 10+ years old and the NA is too sluggish for the vehicles they’re putting it in today
That car at 3:50 is a CX-50
I really hope the next cx5 doesn't look like this spy shot! It looks like those chinese cars that tries to copy the top players of the segment. I can see design from subaru, toyota and hyundai in this car.
I really hope the go something like the Arata concept and give us those lit grille
I will get mazda if they replace their boring design
I missed Mazda Zoom Zoom!
Did Mazda start subscription base service like the remote start?
mazda just like subaru does not have a large presence in chinese market, compared to other japanese automakers like nissan or honda
C-pillar visibility needs improved, not impaired. The Mazda3 hatch and CX30 have awful rear outward visibility and are rather claustrophobic.
that front looks like a Ford (an ecosport)
Mazda had a net income swing of $600 million in 1 year and reported a significant loss.
WOW and you just posted a video about Mazda's sales "exploding". I guess it's like that old joke "We're losing money on each vehicle, but we'll make it up on volume"!
I believe there is a lot of hurt coming for many automakers (especially if tariffs are implemented as promised). Many nameplates will disappear and considering Mazda's relatively small footprint, it may be merge or die.
To my eye, spy photo test car looks more like a RAV4 than a CX5.
Bout time Mazda
The financial losses are alarming and must be partly due to the botched development of the CX-60/70/80/90. In North America the 90 intro was an absolute disaster and it should never have been released for sale in such an underdeveloped state. Lots of buybacks/lemon-law cases and recalls galore. Sales slowed way down and they needed big incentives to move them off the lots. Mazda execs should be hugely embarrassed.
I hate the high beltline. Claustrophobic and diminished visibility. Can you not perceive that?
That's a CRV 3:50
The car in the photo is neither the new CX-5 nor the RAV-4. Judging from the design trend, it is one generation older, and since the photo was taken in China, it is definitely a Japanese car for the Chinese market or a car made by a Chinese manufacturer. By the way, Japanese manufacturers, especially Mazda, which also has a factory in Mexico, will face tariff barriers under the new administration. The same goes for Nissan, which recently announced the layoff of 9,000 employees due to poor performance.
Awesome
Plug-in and electric - no thank you forever. Some of us are disabled and unable to use a stupid lead. Have a go in a manual wheelchair in the confined parking spaces. Manoeuvre it and steer, then try to juggle a lead, a socket at each end with one being higher than your head.
Then, tell me how you can see the charging screen.
Have you tried juggling the lead and your mobile phone, in the freezing, torrential rain with a filthy cable across your clean clothes?
Achieve all this to have to do it again.
currently they are bleeding money for their TSBs of their cx-60 , cx-70 , cx-80, and cx-90. They just rushed out their design into a product that is not totally their quality standard. Don't get me wrong I own one and I love it but I really wished they did better
they are for sure going into a deep hole and lose even US market sales if they cont' working the same way with their quality and testing checklists
clutch & hybrid based transmission ? good idea in theory but at launch ?? a disaster and their TSBs is improving it but not 100% yet especially in really heavy traffic. I would say that they doing around 85% perfect now
X engine is in Europe and Aus.
I don't want no stupid car that I need to plug in -PERIOD! So I DO have a problem with hybrid/batteries mined by children in third world countries. I also live where it gets cold which also is a problem with those big batteries and I DO like HEAT in my car!
That's a Honda CR-V!
CX-5 will not B Toyota engine and Hybrid I do believe CX-50 is.
The CX x0 series project has been a flop. Mazda invested heavily in design and R&D, including extensive efforts in developing unique paint colors which is a non priority. As a result, they missed the mark on some core Mazda qualities, such as optimized suspension tuning and refined transmission programming.
