Did you get a 2024 or 2025 model? I just test drove a 2025 Select yesterday and all my searches mentioned the exact VIN I tested should be missing the cylinder deactivation function (an L in the 8th position of VIN meaning CDA should be missing), but the salesperson I rode with said CDA is enabled for all 2025 non-turbo CX-5 models. I tried to ask him if there was a way to check CDA status, but he wasn't able to get it to display in the infotainment. So now I'm very confused.
There are now All- Wheel Drive with no Front wheel drive only option. I don’t want AWD as I don’t need it in my climate. I am too cheap to pay for things I don’t need. Too bad as they are one of the best machines out there
I shopped both last winter. I had to pass on the CX5 right off - it just wasn't comfortable for my long legs (kept hitting the center console, plus the seat cushion seem too short). The CX-50 was very nice looking and it was definitely in the running. In fact I went back and forth between it and what I ended up getting. It's a very attractive car.
Aesthetically the CX-50 looks better, but I’ll take the CX5 for the independent suspension (vs. torsion beam) and the fact that it’s made in Japan. I’m also not a fan of the stitching that goes down the seat on the CX-50
Cx-50 looks better on the outside, but the Cx5 is way nicer on the inside. And I agree with you on the suspension. Why did Mazda put a torsion beam on the 50?????
@@tommy13965 thanks for replying. I’m planning on test driving both on Monday with the aim of getting one before the end of the year. But honestly I just like the look of the cx5 more so I’m heavily leaning in that direction. However there are way more incentives being offered for the cx50.
2024 CX50 Premium, non-turbo, 0 issues, nearly 6000 in, drove both, 50 just seemed more solid and planted, we also have a bmw 3 series wagon and the 50 was more similar to it than the 5, you could feel the center of mass is higher up in the 5 compared to the 50. The 17 inch beefy tire is great, better mileage, better ride, we drove the turbo with larger wheels and liked the non turbo better on the balance of things. The 5 was nice, maybe a slightly better seating materials at our price point, but ended up loving the cloth in the 50, it wears really well, never looks dirty and is comfortable in all seasons. I don't believe our 2024 premium has cylinder deactivation and it doesn't do start-stop thing either. Wife immediately liked the look of the 50 more than the 5. Both are great.
I really liked the cx5 when i test drove itbut at 6'2" i found the headroom tight in the front and legroom in the back as well. I went with the Forester which better met our needs. I do want to drive the cx70 as I think it looks great.
Honestly it would be a much more meaningful review if you could find 2 with similar trim levels. A lot of the missing features on CX 5 in this video are due to the fact that the CX 5 in this video is of a much lower trim than the CX 50.
I hear you. My purpose for this video was mostly the gross comparison of what they look like and how they’re sized next to each other. Also, since these vehicles are like 80% the same I figured a high and low trim level would be more insightful to the greatest amount of people. It may not have been, but I’ll do more videos like this in the future I’m sure 😅🤷♂️ Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts, I appreciate it!!
I really like Mazdas, they drive really well on road. Very sporty feeling for being a crossover, and their AWD system is also pretty good. But our needs are met better with the Forester Premium. Better MPG, ground clearance/AWD, and back seat room. And a slightly less sporty driving experience is a fair trade off for it just being used as a practical vehicle. Best of luck in whatever you decide!!
CX-5 Select does have lumbar support on the seat. It’s a lever on the side of the seat back. Also, the screen has touch capability in Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
That's something I have considered also. Having a little smaller car will make it easier to maneuver in parking lots and city traffic. However, I'm driving a 2003 Toyota Tacoma that's 202 inches long. To me it feels like a small little vehicle.
I love my 24 cx5 but I will eventually trade up to the cx50. After seeing them all over the place I think it's absolutely gorgeous compared to the cx5. I understand the 26 cx5 will be redesigned so we will see😂

We have both and the cx5 hands down handles way better and much quieter than the 50. We took both vehicles on a road trip to Orlando from Pa the 5 was so much quieter and more comfortable and more stable at 75 mph vs the 50. The seats on the 50 are not meant for long road trips imo it’s just to hard and stiff and the steering is very heavy the 20’s on the 50 does not help with the ride comfort. The reason for the CX-5's dated styling is because the basic body came out in the 2017 model year. Yes, Mazda has made changes to the front and rear fascia, plus changes to the interior over the years, but the basic vehicle hasn't changed since 2017.
Next gen CX5 is expected next year and will offer Mazda's own new hybrid system (not Toyota's) & rumoured PHEV. Happy to wait.
I would buy any car made in Japan over anything else made in other places. Had a Toyota 4runner that I literally gave it away to my neighbor for free because it wouldn't die even after 300k miles on it. So I would definitely buy the cx 5 over cx 50 because it's built in Japan by Japanese people who take pride in their work.
Eh I like the taller design of the CX-5. Looks more Mercedes GLE-like. The CX-50 is too wide and less tall.
They look like the same exact car side by side. Hardly any difference.
You need some glasses dude wtf
No, they don’t
Look again
@@eleanormassaro5195 you also probably think the CX-90 and CX-70 don’t look alike.
@@Splendid_Lad LOL! you're a real smart ass, aren't you? We all know about the controversy regarding the CX-90 and the CX-70 being the same vehicle. But the exterior of the CX-50 and CX-5 do not look alike. The only thing they share is the same engines and front suspension components!
The CX-5 looks so much better and it's made in JAPAN!
