  • Hear this tune (verse and chorus together) played with guitar rhythm backup (chords provided) starting at 11:54.
By request, here is an instructional tutorial RUclips video lesson teaching my 5-string banjo version of the CHORUS of popular bluegrass tune "Rocky Top" on 5-string bluegrass banjo. At the end of the video I combine verse and chorus together to give you a better idea of the whole song. As usual, I teach this tune lick by lick using on-screen tablature, then put it together.
"Rocky Top" is an "American country and bluegrass song written by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant in 1967 and first recorded by the Osborne Brothers later that same year." (Wikipedia). Sonny Osborne recorded the banjo part capoed on the fourth fret (key of B); I teach it here in open G.
This is my own version, which reflects my desire not only to teach the melody of the song, but also to teach certain licks and chords that I deem to be valuable. My main goal, as always, is for you to have as much fun playing the banjo as I do.
I have posted this teaching video for instructional purposes only and, in my opinion, it constitutes fair use:
"The fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright."
Free tab and play-along tracks at different speeds are available at my website, littlerockbanjo.com.
    Hope you enjoy.

Are we doing okay ? I should say so. You've been so helpful in helping this old man have many hours of fun learning 5 string banjo & I thank you very much from the UK 🇬🇧. My wife thinks you're the best & in appreciation she's just bought me a Deering John Hartford banjo. My poor old Ozark is about to get relegated to second place.
Thanks for giving so much of your time. You're a gentleman 👍🏻🇬🇧🇺🇸 .

They're out there, mine's been with me for close on forty amazing years. Mind you, the first one was definitely a big mistake - on both our parts. The secret ? Find one who doesn't want to change you into who she thinks you should be. Happy hunting 🙂.

I just want to say that you are an amazing instructor. I started playing banjo with your foggy mtn breakdown tutorial and I've been progressing rapidly since then thanks in large part to your videos and I'm still having a blast with each new tune.
