What's there not to like? Can't believe 15 people didn't like this! Maybe 15 cats just happened to run across their keyboards while viewers were happily distracted watching this great video.
The teaching is in the beginning when sonny was playing solo talking to the interviewer before he said to bring in the band. Watch it again and again if you can't find any teaching from it. Love the song ( I crank it up on Sirius XM radio when Willies Roadhouse plays it). Always have loved the Osborne Brothers bluegrass music along with Bill Monroe, Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs, Jim & Jesse & the Virginia Boys and many others. This type of bluegrass music will never die. Great picking Sonny & Bobby.
I love electronic music, but this stuff, especially this banjo and the tone produced from its master, could make me forget about ever needing another power outlet again! Makes me wanna leave the city, grow my beard, cut my telephone wires, and roam those hills with a small band..ah
I have never seen them perform this classic in the open position. They always capo up to the C position (Sonny & the rhythm guitar) every time I've seen them perform this iconic song.
Absolutely love that sonny is wearing a UK hat playing this song haha. Leslie county’s finest right here, Go Cats and RIP to my favorite banjo player ever.
REALLY? One day you cats will win a meaningful game…..and I’m Definitely not talking bout basketball…..LMAO GATA JYD!!! if ya don’t know what that means….//HOW BOUT THEM DAWGS!! 2021 NATIONAL FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS!!!
homespuntapes Could you tell me when this was taped? What year ? I guess I can find out from that link. Unfortunately I do not have a banjo right now, so I wouldn't get much out of ole' Sonny at the moment. I'm happy to see "Tennessee Hound Dog in there. I've been to over twenty Blue Grass Festivals in the last 8 years - all in Canada, where there are some excellent Bluegrass musicians, But I could NOT find even one doggone codger, Canadian or American, who knew that song!! Can you believe that? !! HA! - They do now however, I saw to that. So we'll see if I can't strong arm that tune out of one of them this year!! Thanks for sharing.
earl's granada is out of the batch 9584..he got the 9584-3 from don reno and traded him a 34 rb75 and a D18 martin guitar cuz the banjer was in bad shape. Earl didn't even ask for it don gave it to em! Sonny has the 2nd banjer outta that batch earl has the 3rd. Only 20 were made...talk about a priceless instrument. I'd give my left testical for one...well maybe not..lol "scratches head" hmmm
This particular set up and sound he has out of his granada sounds VERY close to the same sound Earl got out of his on "Take me in your lifeboat" on the foggy mountain gospel album..I mean it's so close it's almost Identical....Can defiantly tell they are out of the same batch and right off the line one after the other.
if you look carefully you can see that bobby is shaking with his hands all the time... i don´t think that he is in a very good shape... but thumbs up for the performance in this high age
Thanks Sonny for all the wonderful years of music. You are sorely missed.
We were truly blessed to have had The Osborne Brothers in the bluegrass music genre. Sonny and Bobby rest in peace.
This is so awsome to see these two great bluegrass pioneers... Sonny is one of my all time favorites. He is gracious and a gentleman.
He always seems to be smiling!
R.I.P. Sonny Osborne
It’s insane how, even with the tempo slowed down that much, that banjo line is still very quick. Expert level musicians.

The 2 dislikes must have been the 2 strangers who went up Rocky Top and were never seen again.
i know it is kinda off topic but do anyone know a good site to stream newly released series online ?

Mary, you made me laugh with that one, thank you! 🤣 And Thank You Sonny, for showing us how! 🙏
My God this banjo will blow your speakers out. This particular tone will never be matched.
Love these guys RIP Sonny, one of my banjo heros.
He was one of the greats ... Hate to hear of his passing

Fantastic- Sonny is an original, he'll always be one of my heroes. BTW isn't that the Grascals frontman on guitar?

Too damn right !! Boss !!
I have never seen them perform this classic in the open position. They always capo up to the C position (Sonny & the rhythm guitar) every time I've seen them perform this iconic song.
B (4th fret) possibly? Definitely not the key you want to sing sitting down!
Great to see this on DVD. I have the '95 VHS.
Great Stuff, Thankyou ❤❤❤

It makes you wonder if Bobby can chop and sing at the same time, if he can, he seldom ever does!

What’s not to like 🎉🎉🎉
challenge accepted
Sheesh...even slowed down it's too fast fer me to play... These guys are top level musicians. No doubt...
@martinpleass I prefer a fork .
why the hell is he wearing a UK hat?
Also a very good chance his family roots are from the UK en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osborne_(name)
Does it matter, it's the music that's important?
Cause he’s from Kentucky
@@CraigRison lol no his hat is a University of Kentucky hat
@prescomp As much as one will pay. 200-250,000 dollars...or more.
if you look carefully you can see that bobby is shaking with his hands all the time...

This video is incorrectly titled. WHAT teaching?
He played it a bit slower at the beginning.
rocky top was made in KENTUCKY by Kentuckians
And it's a song about longing to return to a place in Tennessee...
Rocky top was made / written at the Gatlinburg Inn
George Lucas' alias
No real teaching there-but fun stuff nontheless.
This man wrote and played the most prolific song in Tennessee history and he's sitting there in a Kentucky Wildcats hat.
