Airline: LOT polish airlines 🇵🇱
Aircraft: Boeing 787-9
Registration: SP-LSC
Age: 3.2 years old
Takeoff from : runway 33 at Warsaw Chopin airport (WAW)
To: Heraklion 🇬🇷
Taken on: 1st August 2021
Seat number: 4A
Taken with : IPhone 7
Livery : special Poland independence livery
Reason of the rejected takeoff is unclear : The captain told us it's was due to weather problems which I believe it's was a lie because there's plane taking off during our waiting period for the brake to cool down then an aircraft maintenance came... Later I was told by a WAW spotter that they heard that the captain told to the ATC that there's a technical problem.
UPDATE : the reason of the rejected takeoff was due to a problem with the right engine ! Source : www.aeroinside.com/15983/lot-...

Isn’t the 787 a genx engine?
@@amazingthings3516 the Boeing 787 Dreamliner can be equipped with Roll Royce Trent 1000 engine or GENX engine. Lot polish airline has chose RR engine for their 787.
You know what's amazing? How quickly those planes accelerate but also how quick they are when stopping.
Only if V1 isn't reached. Otherwise it has to fly.
@@Ihaveanamenowtaken there has being a case it still stopped after V1 depends on the length of the runway and the size of the aircraft
@@osomeric3277 V1 is the speed at which they should not abort the takeoff. Otherwise as you say, they will not safely make it before the end of the runway. Otherwise, likely the math was wrong and then that's another issue entirely. But you'll have to have a damn good reason to do so.
@trilight3597 No it's correct, V1 as such is a decision speed that counts in a 2 second buffer to react, plus for dry runways, it's calculated without the use of reverse thrust, so logically if you then use it, the stopping distance will decrease. That at reaching V1 take-off can't be aborted anymore is more of an airline safety and also cost-saving instruction, but if you react within those two seconds (if you count in reverse thrust probably three), you are still fine aborting a take-off after V1, and the calculations are correct

One of the moments pilots are paid for. When anything isn't ok...
They are always looking for things that are not right as much as flying the a/c
Thats when experience come in. When you fly so much, a tiny weird feeling or sound will be a suspicious prolem and you have to work fast to find the problem
There is always something to do in the cockpit.
@jcb5713 yup, alway. If it even seem like it is not. It still is or find something to do
Ok guys let’s try it again. Everybody got a quick ride down the runway.
The two most underrated pilot maneuvers are the rejected takeoff and the missed approach. I'd much rather get there late than in a black plastic bag, thank you.

While yes planes can fly on just 1 engine, it is all about maximizing safety. Flying with 1 engine means you can not afford a mid-air engine failure. Safer to just put the passengers on a fully working plane that has 2 engines.

Moments like landing in the Hudson River.

It is the pilot's job to contain or even iscolate yhe problem as best they can, do the safest thing they can for the passengers, log the problem in the airplane's maintenance logbook, and report it to us.

The sad thing is, this would annoy a lot of passengers. Not knowing that this pilot most likely just saved all of their lives. The pilot did this for a reason. Trust me.
That's all people are good at when it comes to aviation. Whining, crying, complaining, insulting. I'm always AMAZED at how retarded people can be when a flight is delayed due to technical problems. That's literally one way to say "we noticed something wrong and won't risk your life for no reason". But no. The urge to yell is stronger 🗣
Happens more often than people think. Pilots must have encountered something they didn’t like and it wasn’t safe.
Hell I heard the rattling bang and seen the vibration thru the phone. The pilot couldn't miss it. 🤣🤣🤣
Better to be safe than sorry.
He didn't abort to be safe. He did it because he had to. There's a calculated speed (Called V1) that you abort if a problem occurs before that speed. Beyond that speed, you continue the takeoff.

Great response from both the pilot and cabin crew. The "Head down, stay down" chant from the attendants lets you know they're looking out for your safety all the time.

The video was amazing but I like the video quality as the people who record the passenger view of takeoff and landing don't have such a great quality mate 👏,and its really impossible to believe that a 100 tonne plane travelling at 250 kmph stopped in just 5 seconds, great mechanism
Thank you for watching :) I’ll post soon the full rejected takeoff and the flight report !
@@AviationLF thanks
More like 170kmph
250km/h? Speak knots please, 250km/h will be around the rotation speeds, V1 would be around 100-130kn(lower V1 applicable for poor runway condition or standing water) so they had to be below this to abort, if they were 250km/h (around 135kn) they’d be committed to the take off, even with one engine.
They were obviously below V1 since they had enough distance left to stop on the runway
@@m_swizzy22 yes you right, I think it's below 250km per hour.if the speed reach that number the plane would be takeoff already..

Whats V1
@@yousryyou6859 V1 is the threshold speed for an aircraft. If the aircraft on the runway has the speed below V1, the pilots can reject takeoff and stop the aircraft safely on the runway. If the speed is higher than V1, the pilots MUST CONTINUE the takeoff and make the aircraft airborne at any cost. Rejection of takeoff above V1 will cause that the aircraft stops beyond the runway, which may cause damages to the structure or danger to people. V1 is calculated before each takeoff, taking into account the total mass of the aircraft, wind speed and direction, available runway length, temperature etc.
@@jarekferenc1149 It can be rejected above v1 if there is no way to get the plane up. I read an article where the elevator control surfaces were locked in the full nose down but the pilots had no way to know because their stick still moved freely. They didn't know until they got to rotate speeds. They decided to attempt to abort the takeoff. They were going to overrun the end either way but aborting the takeoff meant they did it at a much slower speed.
Yeah... otherwise they would have had to make a version 2 📹
@@jacobhinger5039if you're "unable to fly" you're screwed, but that's super unlikely. Single engines failures and stuff like that is much more common

In November 1993 I was on a 747 departing Kai-Tak in Hong Kong when the takeoff was aborted really late. We were never told why, but when the plane eventually took off, there was a constant flow of water from some of the overhead lockers.
Thank you flight attendants for saying head down when the plane is fully stopped.
I think that's one of the best RTO vids out there.
The pilot immediately notices he just received a message that he's gonna be paying child support 🤣🤣

Great work, the replace was had zero hesitation, he heard a problem, was below V1 (the speed at which you must take off you will run out of runway) and instantly aborted.
All the possible measures had been taken to avoid possible risk prior to take off. Salute the pilots for being taken right decision at the high time. ❤
Delays in airline travel suck. But it's better that they caught the problem on the ground before exceeding V1 than up in the air.
The reverse thrust is incredible
Yes. The fastest stop I ever experienced!
Its the brakes that did most of it
@@premiumaviation1911reverse thrust is also really powerful, but yes, brakes are much more important. Also, the spoilers don't really break, they're mostly there to increase the pressure on the brakes
@@jan-lukas - …but not NEARLY as powerful as the brakes. There’s a reason every jet transport I’ve flown without auto-brakes has brake application as the first or second item, along with thrust levers to idle, and typically reverse thrust as fourth, behind spoiler deployment (if no auto-spoilers) for drag and (primarily, as you correctly pointed out) to ensure maximum weight on the wheels for maximum braking effectiveness.

This is why you keep your shoes on during takeoff and landing. You never know, there might be an evacuation.
Also, always put the belt on as hard as possible. And put it harder still. It's your best insurance for not getting hurt. It's just a few minutes.
I never remove shoe onboard a plane only when I sleep. And always keep your seatbelt in case and unexpected turbulence!
Spot on . In actual fact the cabin crew should make you put them back on if you’ve taken them off - running bare foot through burning jet fuel ? Have fun …

Any reason for the flight attendants to get the passengers into the brace position? Did anyone actually do it? That must have been confusing.
Idk unfortunately. I was sitting in business class (the the FA that said brace position was for economy passenger) and didn’t pay attention if someone actually do it (was focusing on filming the situation)

It’s always better to be sure before taking off that everything is 100 percent than find out in air that it’s not.
Amazing how fast she stopped!
It's quite impressive how quickly a airplane can stop
Surely they must have been pretty damned close to V1 considering the papi beacon off the left wing about 2 seconds after thruster deployment and the goddamned touch down zone
V1 is highly dependent on the runway length, the aircraft's performance and the weather conditions. For example, a small business jet may not even hit V1 before it hits VR
Seconds away
Me noticing you not noticing the video correctly, I'll tell you where you went wrong
The plane just crossed the threshold of the runway they were taking off from (and not the opposite runway as you observed), meaning they literally came to the start of the runway like few seconds before the rejected takeoff..
You can tell this by seeing that where they cross the threshold, the taxiway there joins the runway in the direction of the runway (a taxiway near the end of any runway wouldn't point towards the shorter side of the runway)
And the papi lights you mentioned in your comment are standardly located on the left hand side of the runway, so in conclusion, the plane had PLENTY of runway left, literally the whole of it
@@polytekhat , correct , displaced threshold so started take off run well before threshold . Those papis were near end not far
@@richardmillhousenixon , in which case V1 is same as VR... as you can't make a go/ stop decision after you've taken off
