Jeepers Creepers is the golden standard for a modern monster movie. The story of two sibilings on a road trip that quickly descends into hell gave birth to one of horror's greatest icons, The Creeper.

Disagree, the first 45 minutes is pure tension, but once they make it to the diner and place that call the movie takes a huge dive down. After that it's just watching the brother and sister making the stupidest decisions in filmdom and not feeling bad for them at all because of it. And I disliked the black lady character because she felt like she served no purpose other than to provide exposition.

This movie actually had one moment that just made me burst out laughing (and I'm not even sure if it was meant to be funny) Darry goes up to the car at the filling station after the Creeper has ransacked it and picks up his underwear off the ground with his name on it, and distressingly says, "Now he even knows my name!" My husband and I went in blind. We saw that there was a horror movie and just went because we were bored. What I find interesting is even though I liked it a lot when it first came out, that when you rewatch it and you can pay attention to things because you aren't trying to figure out the mystery, you pick up on more and it is somehow scarier on the second watch. Also it has one of my favorite shots ever in a horror film and its when you are watching the two main characters in the car with the cops behind them with the high energy version of Jeepers Creepers playing and in the back ground you see the Creeper standing on the back of the cop car in this perfect dominating and intimidating shape. Its a shame that these movies, which are all really entertaining, were tainted by the horrible deeds of the director.

Couldn't agree more, buddy. I worked as a projectionist when this film first landed, and, after seeing it, I could not BELIEVE the lack of press or fanfare with which it did so. I'm down in (Sydney) Australia, so things may have been different up there in the Northern Hemisphere, but here, it arrived with barely a murmur and one, naturally, thought that it would be just another jump scare fest with mediocre production values and well below par acting. What a wonderful surprise (the likes of which we fans of the genre are forever longing yet so rarely treated!) this gem was. I liked it from the get go, but can still recall the moment that I KNEW it was something special; that being when The Creeper is disposing of the body at the church... they see him and he sees that they see him, and proceeds to give chase... To this DAY that sequence still hits me very much the way it did back in 2001, in spite of the fact that I've seen it countless times. God what I wouldn't give for another out of the blue horror gem such as this right about now!

This and The Grudge are the two movies I remember from my childhood that left me unable to sleep for weeks afterward. I still love this movie because the characters act realistically (other then Darry going back to check in the tunnel). If I saw the creeper I'd do exactly what they did, get in my car and make a bee line to the nearest phone to call the cops, then get a police escort to a police station. The fact that they did exactly this and the creeper still wins is what leaves you scared afterward. The fact that you could make the most logical and realistic decisions and he'll still get you. As opposed to other horror films where characters are oblivious, clumsy, and just downright stupid, those movies make you feel like you could handle it differently in real life and come out on top, but not this movie.

I love jeeper's creeper's and I think it's a great creative horror film. I think this movie has great writing and directing. I think the creeper is an awesome character and I think the creeper look's fantastic. I also think the first jeeper's creeper's is a horror classic and I feel the creeper is a horror icon.

Just re-watched last night, still gives me the creeps! I wonder, did Mr Creeper fall in love with Darry's eyes at first sight on the road, or is it the fact that he had curious eyes, had to go check in the pipe and all -- that made Mr Creeper take note? Or was the whole eyeball thing made just to go better with the catchy tune?

Also: The Creeper took some notes from Pennywise: every 23 years, every 27 years. Both go after younger people, both enjoy the smell/taste of fear. Both are shapeshifters (to an extent) and is it a coincidence that one of the main characters name is Derry? The town in Maine Pennywise terrorizes? Oh it is? Yea I guess your right 😂

Great movie! I've been on a run watching some of your movie reviews, and really enjoying them.
Jeepers Creepers is fantastic, and you are spot on about the ending. I kept thinking about how one would even kill The Creeper, since bullets didn't work.
I loved watching Trish relentlessly run over The Creeper, multiple times, which is what many "I would've done that" fans enjoyed too (my brother is like that, and he was pretty much cheering her on). Still, that didn't work to kill The Creeper.
I don't say it often, but I think it would've been much stronger as a stand alone movie. Jeepers Creepers 2 was alright, but it provided more questions than answers to questions at the of the original.

  • @thebrideofghostface
    @thebrideofghostface 3 года назад +2

Like you said, these aren't typical dumb horror movie protagonists, even if they do make some bad decisions.
Ex: When Derry goes back to the church after he sees a body being dropped down.
Yes, this is a dumb decision, but he thinks the person might be still alive, and he thinks that morally, he should try to save them, and worries that if they just call the police, he will be back and have killed them by then.
There's a rationale. And it seems like something you or your friends might do if put in that situation. It's not just a plot device, even if it does help the plot move forward.

yes I've been watching this movie ever since I was like 9 or 10 and every time I watch it it feels like first time, the creeper is still just as scary the third time around as he is the first. And every time darry gets taken away...my whole heart just sinks down into my stomach and that's rare in a lot of movies

I came across jeepers creepers totally spontaneously too. Me and my twin brother rented it at blockbuster in 2001. We had zero idea what movie was about. We was about 13 and it just sounded like a interesting title. We remember the 1st scene had us interested in seconds. Justin long and the actress playing his sister already got us hooked. Then when the creepers truck hit, our hair stood up on back of our necks and we both looked at each other, like what did we just pop in our DVD player😮? Then we had a totally shocked and fun experience all way to the End. I also noticed years later, that victor silva was the director to one my old time favorite movies growing up in the 90’s. Powder. That movie always is in my heart as a masterpiece. So it did shock me when a friend said the director was a child molestar, but my love for the movies didn’t Change really.

Great review! Love this movie and it’s tragic that every movie since has gotten worse and worse. But reborn takes it to a whole other level of horrendous. I give reborn a 1% out of 100 and I’m not being unrealistic or dramatic in that rating. It’s the worst I’ve ever seen. Such a shame

I see a lot of scary movies with happy endings
Some with open endings/ set ups for sequels
And then the few where the bad guy just wins. I enjoy all types, but I like Jeepers Creepers because he wins, which adds to the dread of it

watched this last night - f**king incredible scare movie loved it.
the way he stares back from the house when he's clearly dumping bodies down the tunnel is such a scary image.
the creepiest aspect is that tuft of useless old mans grey hair on the back of his head - its so horrible and out of place yet it adds so much to the scarecrow look he has

Well, well, how am I supposed to talk about this film?
I ask that because I know that if I talk about "Jeepers Creepers" then I'll have to bring up the director (who will go unnamed by the way).
What that man did was unacceptable and because of that, I refuse to have a physical copy of it in my house. Not trying to put down anyone who dose, it's just how I feel. Now, with all that said, after streaming both the first and second film, I agree and line up with Cody's opinions... for the most part.

This is my favorite Horror movie of all times. The intro scene is pure gold with Darry and Trish driving down that old-Florida road in broad daylight. Then the scene with the Creeper looking back at them, again not at night, not with some bloody kill, just plain amazing writing, directing, and acting. Hats off to Victor Salva for gifting us this masterpiece. It’s a shame he chose to commit crime and by so doing stained the name of this movie and its legacy. Hats off to Gina and Justin.

This is definitely my favorite horror film. Even over Halloween. But Halloween is right there. However. Jeepers creepers scared the shit out of me as a kid over any other horror film ive ever seen. Justin long is a great actor. His chilling screaming at the end is pure gold. And the ending always gets me. Still to this day I will not watch that ending. Ever.

This movie also had some natural comedy as to how darry and trish react to the fuckery that the creeper puts them through. It feels relatable and surreal
