IT: Chapter Two (2019) - Movie Review
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 7 сен 2019
- Pennywise is back and The Losers Club have returned to finish what they started 27 years ago. Following what became the most financially successful horror film of all time, this sequel had huge shoes to fill. Have the filmmakers struck gold twice or is the adult half of this story simply doomed to be inferior?

Finally somebody said it! The bad use of humor ruined this movie, it felt like scary movie
I liked adult Richie a lot, but I can see how the humor fell flat for you
@@nolanc9432 the music playing when Eddie gets puked on was fucking stupid though
@@TanWam omg legit had the exact same thought yesterday. The humour just killed the tone completely and the jump scares were so bland near the end
Yeah and when Eddie gets puked on by the leper and "just call me angel of the morning baby" chimes in on what would be a creepy nasty part. Just made me throw my arms up in the theater.
And too much shotty CGI for me, could've put that bigger budget to better use imo.
Felt like a Marvel movie.
I’m totally over CGI monsters popping out and going “braaaarh!” into the camera. I miss old school horror
He'll yeah
I can't stand this brand of CGI horror. Practical effects had a charm to them. We used to have physical props that had actual movements. Most of these new school CGI creatures feel more like cartoons than monsters.
@@faz6877 I agree completely I saw the banana splits gang movie today all practical effects check it out
Watch Docter Sleep. No jumpscares, just old school horror all the way.
@@toddgarver5397 I wish I knew those things when I was a kid
They killed Pennywise by hurting his damned feelings....I was pissed.
That was horrible
what's horrible is nobody has a problem with a nightmare on elm streets VERY SIMILAR ENDING.
It is an okay ending,if I was pennywise it would hurt alittle,I would rather see the losers club fight with weapons.
Phillip Morgan people say that it sucks, and if that never happened, it would be the best horror movie ever made, aside from that you are at least right.
@Car Revenger - That's the thing. As adults, they have more access to effective weapons. They can still use the power of imagination, and all that jazz, but wouldn't it be more effective and more convincing---and a better ending---to "believe" that an AK-47 and a grenade launcher would put a dent in a dancing clown? They had the budget for it! The losers literally brought Pennywise down to size by using a reverse 'Care Bear Stare.' Hell no.
Cody's 44 minute review was better paced, nuanced, more entertaining, and satisfying than the 3 hour movie. 🤣
Hahaha thanks man
@@CodyLeachYT Thank you sir! You're one of the few movie reviewers on youtube I enjoy watching/listening to. I really appreciate all the thought and effort you put in your reviews. Thank you for doing what you do.
I can't seem to sit through a 3 hour movie. It's like Doctor Sleep which was 3 hours of sheer boredom and monotony. I wanted to take a nap while watching it. I was not entertained, I was interested in my cellphone, but not the movie
@@Kinnakeeter damn.....you miss a lot of really good movies then. Surprising about Doctor Sleep. It's wild how movies are so wildly viewed
@@Kinnakeeter still better than IT chapter 2

Cody: get the f_ck otta here!
Lol
Lol
Hahahaha I LOVED THAT 2!!!! LOL THAT WAS VERY FUNNY!
That final form reminded me of the Scorpion King at the end of The Mummy Returns.
The tea lady was more scary in the 1990 mini series.
Bill Hader killed it, but I actually wish they got Seth Green for adult Ritchie. That would've been interesting.
Hader also did a phenomenal job in “The Skeleton Twins.” Very dramatic and sad role, but he really shines.
I personally hated the Skeleton Twins, but Hader did a pretty good job.
I thought the actor for Eddie was perfect not just in looks but he acted just like him too
SternRitterKurama 🔥
That Nightmare on Elm St 5 on the theater was dopee!
I agree.
It was in the first movie as well
Until you realize Elm Street 5 sucks and they had 5 total films to choose from lmao
Franklin Stine the reason they used that one is that it came out and was playing in theatres in 1989
@@MrOmac09 I get why they used that one lol But it's like.... "Ummm the other movies came out in the 80's too" ya know lol
You wouldn't believe how often in life Jeff Goldblum's line in Jurassic park comes in handy " people are so preoccupied with whether they could do it they they didn't stop to think if they should"
They told you Richie's secret in the arcade.
I thought it was gonna be something more dramatic than just him being gay
I thought that it was all of his comedy routines were scripted
The opening scene's significance is that every 27 years Pennywise is awakened from his sleep by an evil act of violence. So the "gay bashing" is what actually wakes him up. And I personally picked up on Richie being a closet homosexual early on but not him being in love with Eddie, that came completely out of nowhere for me.
I disagree with you on the adult Eddie character. I thought he was funny and I was very upset at the end. And yes Bill Hader was great!
Probably one of the only doo thing about the film, other than that, The movie was SHIT. In my opinion
I thought they all sucked. Just a horrible movie..
Also Eddie going back to being a hypochondriac, whole point of that was after his mother moved them out of Derry and away from his friends he forgot things and her control over him started all over again.
I feel like sometimes you are the only rational movie reviewer on RUclips. Love and respect your thoughts and opinions. Keep it up!
“Messed my hair up” lol you’re my fav. Great review!
Lol Thank you
Dude it’s so cool your close to 40K subs! I’m so excited to see your channel growing so well Cody, keep up the great work brother
I just finished rewatching every It movie. Right away I gotta say the original 90s mini series is my favorite simply because it just has more personality. I liked the 2017 one but I completely agree chapter 2 just feels like a longer remake of the first chapter. I heard someone refer to these two films as the “marvel-ization” of horror and I completely resonate with that statement. They really had the balls to poke fun at the ending of the original film/book only to have another mediocre ending themselves.
I was SO fucking scared this was going to just be a blindly positive review. Thank you!!
This is the most real review I've seen in three days. Keep them coming. 🤘🤘❤
Cody, I really enjoy your reviews and the honesty you bring. I like that you don't apologize for your opinions. I haven't seen this movie and I think I'll wait until until it comes out on VOD.
I thought It was very good. Bit of a weak ending. Funny as hell. Few good jump scares, but I did see them coming.
And Bill Hader. OMG, Brilliant.
Yes!!!!
I loved it too lol
I don’t like humor being injected into my horror films. At least not the amount that they used in this film.
Bill Hader was unaware that Bill Skarsgård can actually move his eyes in two different directions. Hader asked Skarsgård what kind of editing was done to achieve the effect in the first movie. Skarsgård, in full costume and makeup, responded by saying "Oh, you mean this?" and doing it, causing Hader to freak out.
Well done C L. I haven't seen this film but I was happy just to hear you unpack it. You've really matured and are increasingly articulate and insightful. Keep up the good work
I agree with you about the CGI, the jump scares, and the thing ripoff
It Sucked dude, The movie opened up with such a vivid scene of brutality and wickedness then it turned into a Comedy!
You deserve way more subs man, great perspectives and content, keep it up
Yo He just said there is only.. 9 MINS OF Pennywise in a 3hr Movie... Oh HELL NAH
I just came back from the cinema and uh...it REALLY didn't feel like only 9 minutes. I think he calculated wrong, because Pennywise was popping up left and right in this movie, like he was actually in it more than the first one I think
@@arumikahaven yes
I personally loved it but understand why some did not. No harm no foul to anyone who feels differently it just worked for some
I think most people expected a horror movie and was disappointed. I liked the movie cause I didn't expect it to be scary, plus the CGI made it impossible to feel suspense, but the movie was funny and the cast was great
I completely agree with you Toxic terror
Fun is fun! I'm with ya budday!!
It scared the shit outta me I jumped and screamed
I loved it too!

A 45 minute review on It Chapter
Damn that’s a long review
Long review for a long movie
😆
Love a passionate review from someone taking the time to justify their view though.
To me pennywise sounds like Winnie the pooh when he talks
I really did like it, but ih my god the ending was really dumb, what I think they should've done is just had big battle with Pennywise in his clown form, no mega crab etc
Watched your review before seeing the movie and so i went in with lowered expectations. It actually made the movie more enjoyable since i knew what to overlook and expect. Thanks man.
Damn man.. you really hit the nail on the head w/ your review because I damn near share all your sentiments w/ this movie! Your low key one of me favorite RUclips horor movie channel's lol. Keep it up my man!
I completely disagree with you on this one but I respect your perspective because of your exceptional love for horror films.
Samesies
One scene that chilled me to the bone was when Pennywise lured a child under the bleachers and ate her.
I watched Frodo get the ring and by the time the movie was over I watched Frodo destroy the ring...That's how long this movie was.
Your opening sequence.....perfecto! Another great video!
I love that you touch on the stuff that you do in your videos. Agree or not, you have some of the freshest and most unique perspectives on film.
Loved "The Thing" quote/reference in this movie. Judging by the silence in the theater, I was the only who got it, lol.
A fair balanced review Cody, personally I enjoyed the film but it certainly has flaws which you called out perfectly.
Jessica Chastain I thought was good as Beverly, McAvoy as Bill was decent, however Bill Hader as Richie stole the show for me, I felt his pain was converyed well in the climax when a certain character died.
My gripes were with the Henry Bowers character, i agree with you Cody it just didn't go anywhere & those scenes could easily been cut from the movie & it wouldn't have affected the overall outcome.
My other gripe was the CGI which was hokey In places & I think they should have gone with prosthetic FX, if you look at the cool shit Del Toro conjures up in his movies his monsters are scary as hell & I think if they'd gone down that route it would've made those characters far more scarier.
Not sure the changes made to Stanleys arc worked either, trying make him a sacrifice character was bit weak, just show the character traumatised to the point he commits suicide rather than face Pennywise again.
Still, I enjoyed this film & Bill Skargard as Pennywise I thought was terrifying despite his short appearance & I'd love see a prequel focused on that character & the circus setting rather than a Chapter 3.
Overall I'd give it a 3.5/5.
P.S I hope you review Nightbreed one day, love that movie.
Always a pleasure to hear your thoughts. Time to get my popcorn this is gonna be a fun watch haha
listening on my way to work....Been waiting for this one🙌
Your take on the adults being hollow and not maturing is understandable, but that was the point kind of, Derry makes them that way, PennyWise brings out their inner child to bring out their fear
Also I want a stand alone Pennywise film, drop these characters and do a prequel set maybe in the 1800's that would be cool imo.
They are exploring that idea I hope we get it too
You represent every single one of my thoughts and impressions and even wishful thinking of what this could have been. Unfortunately because I was also so looking forward to it.
I loved it. Loved the entire cast. Probably like it equally with the first one. The way they killed him was fine to me, if not a bit silly, but it's still far better than the mini series way of doing it. Also, it would have been next to impossible to kill him like they did in the book. I can't see a way of even filming that coherently. Understand why you didn't like it. Had a feeling it would be a mix type of film. As always, I love your reviews, even if I don't agree with all your point. Also, miss seeing you on Killer Flicks. 😥
Yeah, the macroverse is impossible to film. Because then you have to throw in Gan (the Other It fears is out there) and the turtle and the nature of flying through space in the mind.
There is no way to film it.
Heyy Cody, thanx for the review. I've heard mixed things about IT chapter 2 and i was curious as to what your thoughts would be, and wheather you thought it was worth seeing. Based on how negatively you took this movie ill wait for it to come online before i watch. Great video as always, and im sorry that you couldn't enjoy this movie as much as you should have.
I honestly adored this movie. I didn't feel the length at all. I enjoyed getting to see Pennywise kill more kids on screen. I thought it was funny and brutal at the same time.
It was more brutal then the first in my opinion I love how chaotic and random it was!
Pennywise was much more malicious and nightmarish in this than he was in the first. Had plenty of screentime in this.
Same, I did not feel dragged at all and thought pennywise was more vicious in this.
Agreed 👌
Because everyone is expecting scary pop ups like most scary movies now days . But real IT fans understand the real origin of It that’s why the movie didn’t drag for most of us
Great review Cody! I'll wait for the Blu-ray :)
I think these flashback scenes should have been filmed back in 2017 and used the scenes now. That would have made more sense. They knew they were making a sequel. Plan ahead.
Big Guy617 incorrect.....the reason they adapted the kid section into a standalone is because they were not sure if they would get a sequel. the first film was in development hell for nearly a decade.
Of course, they couldn't do that. That's not how it works, unfortunately. That one scene with young Richie by the statue, the de-aging was so distracting and it looked so fake, it kinda took me out of the movie.
Phillip Morgan It was in development hell because WB had creative differences with the original director, Cary Funkaga. His vision of the movie was different than the studio. They wanted the scares to be more generic with jump scares. I think he wanted to do the scares differently and some other stuff. I know he had a different actor in mind for Pennywise. His choice was Will Poultier from the movie Detroit. Will was very intimidating in that movie. WB fired Cary and got Andy instead to do the movie.
Also, In that final scene with Bev and Ben. They have that cheesy as hell moment kissing under the water. As if that isn't cringe enough.
Got so mad "messed up my hair" lol Thanks for the great review
The adults were the worst part of the book, they were the worst part of the mini-series. Wow, big shock it was the worst part of the remakes. This was a film created only by obligation to finish the book and to anybody who even thought it was going to match Chapter 1 are collosal idiots. I went into this with low expectations because I knew what to expect because it was so obvious this was going to be nowhere near as good as the first. Anybody who use the words "disappointed" for the review of this movie only did that to themselves.
This.
Your an idiot.
I feel your pain. I was so excited but thought it was sooooo bloody long and boring. So disappointed. 😟😟
Been waiting for your thoughts Cody!
IT is that story that nobody really knows how to end, the mini series, the theatre length film (part 2) and King himself admitted he struggled figuring out how to end the book. The parts of all versions of the story where they are kids is always the best part too
lol that was the funniest intro Cody’s done
Omg were the same Zelda scared me so bad as a child i couldn't watch "pet sematery" again until i was an adult and i still would fast forward zelda and pennywise lets just say i watched once and was doneeeeee😨😨😨
You should definitely check out Bill Hader's show (Barry). I was shocked at how great he is dramatically. It's a perfect blend of comedy/drama. I can believe he's one of the best parts of this film, no doubt.
Also another hint to Richie being gay is that he is the only one who isn't married as we find out in the chinese restaurant
So I guess you're gay if you're not married by 40.
Jojo717 I didn't mean it like that i meant the way he reacts when they ask him and that he doesn't have a wife and are little hints to me anyway. Im not saying you're gay if not married sorry if i seemed like that
My, what a lovely room you have there, Cody. Lol. Nice background. 😁
overall I enjoyed the film.
I agree about the ending, the whole " there's other ways to make people feel small " felt like an anti-bullying campaign and felt very awkward being in the film.
The story line with Richie being gay, to me anyways, was very obvious I didn't question it, I knew he was gay. My opinions on this storyline was that it didn't need to be a big massive song & dance about it, he was a closeted gay and he hid it, so it makes sense that in the movie it was always hidden and only shown in discreet ways, I thought it was a very respectful way to show that aspect of his personal life. Unfortunately it's a reality for some people and they don't feel comfortable showing that aspect off to the world. Humour often masks pain, and I think his story line was very well done.
CGI was very distracting, and for a movie that is called " IT " we didn't see much of IT, which was disappointing and his scenes didn't scare me. I agree that there was some jokes made at times when jokes shouldn't be made.
The scene with Beverly and the old lady, when I watched it in cinemas everyone laughed at these scenes cause they made it funny, when the trailer for these scenes looked scary, so I was disappointed in that also.
I wish there was more of storyline with Henry, I feel like if you didn't read the books or watched the original mini series that you'd be confused about Henry's storyline.
overall I enjoyed the movie, could of been done better but I think they just wanted to stick to the books which is why IT chapter 1 will always be better than IT chapter 2 🤷🏻♀️
p.s this movie was not as disappointing as the new Halloween movie.
Jennifer Allen I agree
Conor Goodwin 1 thank you 🎈
Oh shit look who's back. Good review man I knew people was going to have alot more issues with this one.
For some reason, I didn’t really realize the cgi on most of the kids faces. The only one I noticed it on was Eddie, and Jesus Christ it was bad. The way you felt with Finn Wolfhard, that’s what I felt with Eddie. I was immediately pulled out of the scenes with child Eddie.
I haven't watched 'IT Chapter 2' yet but I have to say this is a really great review. I am disappointed to hear that it's fell short of the mark (I am watching tomorrow night) because I'm such a huge fan of the mini TV series and the book. I thought the re-make of 2017 was ok but I felt that film should have been longer. The coming together of the Losers Club just felt rushed to me - now when I hear this film was 3 hours, I was hoping for more interaction and scenes with the younger kids to help cover this from the first film but doesn't seem like that's what they have done...shame. I will post back once I have watched tomorrow night but great stuff again Cody, always my first port of call for my film reviews! UK subscriber!
Personally think Eddie was the stand out for me, his reactions to certain things was hilarious
One disagreement I have with you is James ransome as adult Eddie. I thought he was great
His acting got a little bad towards the end.
The Random Movie Maniac he was absolutely terrible. The character was a 40 yr old man acting the exact same as he did when he was 10. Ridiculous.
@@dylanthomas1274 Nobody asked you
@@dylanthomas1274 Thank you! Exactly what I was thinking.. I was like you were brave 27 years ago to kick Pennywise in the face. Why not be even braver as a 40 yr old adult??? Movie was so lame.
James Ransone was not great. His character was pretty good. But he doesn't act like he did as a kid. Well that was kinda every Loser but he does a little too much of it
I might not agree with everything. But I enjoy the way Cody articulate his opinions and makes his presentation. And I find it very refreshing to learn about new perspectives, and respects his passion in his work. Therefore, I watched this entire review. Very well done.
Well, if anything, this movie gives me a reason to remind people that the Ice Nine Kills song "IT Is The End" exists, and that a music video is apparently coming out soon.
It was heavily flawed, but I still enjoyed it
i agree it shouldn't pull a 1990 miniseries time length (rip the ❤ i got from cody cause i edited the comment)

I enjoyed the movie as an extension of the first to finish the channel. But I had THE SAME EXACT COMPLAINTS!!!!! Is it that hard to just bring in some of the cutting edge practical effects talent out there. This would have been the perfect tentpole movie to bring practical effects back into the mainstream! As always, excellent review dude.
My only gripes for this movie was that they should have cut it down about 20 minutes and used more practical. And showed more gore when it came to the kids deaths
Super-Geek Reviews when this blu ray comes out you're gonna find out just how many practical effects they did in fact use
I respect your opinions but naw i have to respectfully disagree. I loved this movie.
Any reason?
I really liked this movie I had a good time watching it Only complaint was that it was a little too long
@@jaysony8587 Which your completely in your right to think its rank, just dont be a snarky asshole, prick.
Stop disrespecting this guys opinion, what if i said the first it was complete garbage, well it is garbage but you get my point.
Tatted Snake Prince I also loved this movie 🍿
I'll give them credit for this: at least they make fun of Stephen King not being able to write good endings 😅
and then the ending was shit ha
I think the end of IT book was really good
Was waiting for this review
Just found your channel in the last few months so that's why I'm so late to this lol. But I remember watching It Chapter 2 in the cinema and the scene with the old woman. Everything was so tense in the build-up to seeing her. And when she finally came out of the shadows and we see the CGI monster, everyone in the cinema laughed... Why did they think it would be effective :(
Loved the video!! Being a gay man who absolutely loves horror movies and your channel I think you Handled the gay aspect of the movie so well - I knew that topic would come up but your transition into it was very well said. I do believe the book hints at one of the losers being gay but I think it was Stanley and not richie - which overall I do love the idea of having one of the losers being closeted and how being gay in Derry was not pleasant but I have to go back a reread. But regardless thank you for always coming up with amazing content!
Well the book had a child gang bang.
I really enjoyed this film, and was emotionally stirred at multiple times throughout.
Just discovered your channel and so far I agree with every review I've watched, you are the first person I've heard echo my sentiment over the overuse of comedy
7:15 Exactly. The type of characters most of the horror villains are would kill kids so I like that they're getting brave enough to show it in some horror films instead of being all like "Teenagers, adults and old people are fair game but you can't kill off kids" like years ago.
i think James Ransone did fantastic as eddie...my biggest gripe with the film is honestly just the flashbacks.
Billy Spencer Same I just didn’t think the final battle was epic like how the marketing of the film led me to believe like they just call Pennywise names to make him turn into a baby form and rip he’s heart out🤦🏾♀️but I would say I loved Bill Hader as Richie and James Ransone as Eddie. James Mccavoy and Jessica did okay as Bill and Ben. But Mike did feel like an exposition dump at some points.
James Ransone was amazing as Eddie Kaspbrak. He shined in this role just like Bill Hader did as Richie Tozier. Shame Cody didn't think so.
Also, in the book they brought Beverly's abusive husband and Bill's wife to Derry, and there were some parts with them that I would have loved to see in this movie. They should have backed off with the cgi, and given those characters some more screen time!
Great review! While, I actually liked and prefer this to Chapter 1.. you make some very good points. I watched this at a Back-to-back screening. And, someone said it ended at 12:01 AM. But whilst I thought the runtime didnt take a toll on me, some of it was paced poorly. I pulled out my phone (which I usually would not do) to see how far in we were and it was 11:50pm.. I was like 'Oh great, only 10minute left.' I ain't even joking when I say I was wrong.. completely wrong. The last act hadn't even started and that really felt like it dragged, a lot. It ended at 12:50 😂 But another thing I thought was a little odd is they changed some dialogue in flashback scenes. I know it was to serve a purpose in this movie but you can't be doing that when continuity should be key here!
I agree with everything you had to say. I still have a soft spot for the mini series and I loved Pt 1. Pt 2 suffered from the same problem as the mini series, the adults. I have no idea how they could have screwed this up so badly after Pt 1. Love your videos. Keep em coming.
It truly did have some great scenes, for example the bleacher scene was sooo creepy to me. If they would have done more of that and let Bill Skarsgard be genuinely creepy and terrifying the movie, in my opinion would be a lot better. The tension and build up for that scene was scary, and wasn’t a cheap way to show off their visual effects (and budget).
That’s my 11 year old opinion...
DON'T watch the Black Christmas Trailer!
(Save yourself lol)
Franklin Stine I wish someone would’ve told me that a while ago lol. Because it put me in a pissy mood for the rest of the day after I watched it
Cody......seriously....thank you for your honest opinion....between you and Drumdum.....I respect the heck out of you guys. I am planning to watch this today.....not certain why I waited so long. I will see how it goes.
You took the words right out of my mouth. As a huge fan I was so impatient for this release and left almost angry I was so disappointed grrrrrrrrr
To be fair the 2nd part in the TV miniseries wasn't that great either.
@Jimmy S No it's not and to quote your statement saying "in many aspects it's better" thats very subjective. I personally enjoyed it better than the original. Your budget comparisons don't help your argument better.
@Jimmy S dude die hard kicks ass. Sorry for having a different opinion lmao not everyone liked the 90's mini series though dude. Tim Curry is the best part.
@Jimmy S I mean Tim Curry didn't scare me either but he entertained me
@Jimmy S People not liking It Chapter Two does not surprise me, its a matter of opinion after all and there were some strange choices in that movie. I liked it but I understand people who didn't. With that said, comparisons with the mini series really shock me. I don't know if the fact that some people watched it when they were young impressionable kids makes them look at that movie with pink glasses or we are just very different people but... The 1990 IT is one of the worst movies I've seen and I'm not just saying that to prove a point. The new Chapter Two truly was worse then the 2017 one but it's still miles better then the old movie.
@Jimmy S I think it depends on if you loved the original or not. I like the miniseries but aside from Tim Curry, i don't see much good with it. Granted it was a mini series made for TV so they couldn't do the crazy nasty stuff like a big budget rated R movie. Maybe they shouldn't be compared because they were made at different times and for different reasons.
Thank you for pointing out the de aging as well as Ben and Beverly’s relationship very much weak points to the film.
Nice in depth review man.
Skaarsgård's performance was closer to the book's material than Curry's version
John Payaso De La Muerte Reynolds yeah I felt like Skaarsgard’s performance fit the tone of Pennywise alien creepiness. I was 12 yrs.old and just finishing the book as the miniseries came out and I hated Curry’s interpretation.
I shared pretty much these exact same thoughts, and was very unsure whether I liked this movie or not. I just watch it again last night for the first time since seeing it in Theaters, and... I was actually floored about how much more I liked it the second time around. Very flawed, not the level of Chapter One, but a lot better than I gave it credit for originally.
IT CHAPTER 2
2019 comedy film of the year lol 😂
Completely agree about cgi and horror movies. The issue is that that there arent thst many practical effects companies left and they are more expensive than cgi now...
I found your channel and it's helped me with a lot of bad times
Glad to hear
He should review the pumpkinhead franchise
