I agree with you about that. Ask someone to describe Jason Voorhees and they are going to describe the character that Richard Brooker played in part 3. That's when the character became iconic. Ask most people what there favorite movie of the franchise is and I doubt it's any of the last 3 that featured Hodder. Your channel is so underrated... I literally binge watch all of your videos, especially the videos where you rank kills from different franchises. You remind me of Dead Meat (one of my favourite horror movie channels).
Yeah this is my second favorite Friday the 13th film after The Final Chapter. This movie does everything right that so many Friday films did wrong. Sure it wasn't the greatest movie of all time, but it was a great start to a new franchise, that in my opinion, they should have stuck with. I still have to go with The Final Chapter as being my favorite because you just cannot beat that cast and those kills, but the remake is a close second. Here's how I rank the movies. 1. The Final Chapter- Classic Friday, best kills, best characters, hottest women, most nudity, the best. 2. Remake- Amazing remake, very underrated. 3. Freddy vs Jason- Technically this one is probably the most entertaining, but it's not a "true" Friday film and I'm rating it as a Jason movie, so as a "Jason movie" it's #3. 4. Part 3- Great classic Friday film, fun characters, hot women. The campy stuff and the 3D hold id back a little bit. 5. Part 1- Yeah it's slow, but I like the atmosphere in this one and I really like the characters. It's just a very "feel good" relaxing slasher flick. 6. Part 2- More intense than the original, but I never dug sack head Jason. But it has the hottest girl in the series in Terry. 7. Part 7- Very underrated, the last "classic" Friday movie. I just hate how the MPAA cut it to shit, and yes the stuff involving Tina's dad is garbage. 8. Jason X- Very underrated also, very fun movie. I just don't like the space setting and the characters are pretty terrible. 9. Part 6- Very overrated in my opinion. The story isn't bad, but I hate the "campy" comedic angle they went with. Jason is supposed to be scary. Also no nudity...how can you have a Friday movie without nudity? 10. Part 5- This film is almost as funny as The Room, but you're also laught at the film rather han with it. Terrible characters, random shit that comes out of nowhere...terrible film. BUT it is hilarious. 11. Part 8- The only Friday film I could not watch the entire way through, and I've tried MANY times. Such a BORING film, and that's the worst sin a movie can make. 12. Jason Goes to Hell- An abomination. Not as bad as Seed of Chucky, not nearly as bad...but this movie is still terrible. Jason Ranking 1. Derek Mears 2. Ted White (I HATE putting him at number 2, but Derek Mears is just so fucking good) 3. Richard Brooker 4. Kane Hodder 5. Ken Kirzinger 6. Whoever played him in Part 2 (I have no idea)
Easily the most terrifying Jason to date. I remember watching this the first time and seeing him sprint and plant a machete into the dudes head in the opening act. First time in the series I thought holy shit that’s terrifying. Love Kane and I love the series but this is the best they’ve done with the franchise.
I’m so happy to hear that you like this. I love this movie 😁 Derek Mears is the best man behind the mask i’ve ever seen!!! Can’t wait until your ranking
As awesome as that would be Robert Englund wouldn't be able to keep up with Derek Mears. It would be like putting an aged Hulk Hogan against Randy Orton in his prime. One of em would literally look like they're standing still next to the other. This isnt a dig at Robert's acting, it's just a fact of life. Personally I would cast Jackie Earle Hayley in the role of Freddy again. Yea the 2010 remake gets a lot of hate, but like Jared Leto in Suicide Squad Jackie gave a brilliant performance despite the movies failures. And like Jared Leto, Jackie deserves a shot at redemption. To wash off the stain that the remake has left.
I'm so glad someone else enjoys this movie as much as my wife and I do. I like how he runs and moves around so fast with his tunnel system. Awesome review.
Yet another great movie review mate. I will be honest I genuinely jumped at that intro so good Job. Loved how in depth you went and how honest you were. Great job
I was a junior in high school when this movie came out. I remember being super excited going to see this movie. It was Valentines Day weekend 2009 and the theater was packed. This remake was great in my opinion!
Been watching your channel since the pandemic and really cool to see how you’re channel has grown, yet you are still you. Rooting for your continued success!
@Misanthropy Wishes not even close lmao that’s crazy you say that it’s not scary it’s outdated like a mf and I laugh watching it cause it’s so cringe lmao the 2009 is by far way more scarier comon
I’ll always prefer a Jason that runs over a Jason that walks slowly. The slow stalking is Michael’s thing. A silent masked killer sprinting after you through the woods at night is fucking bone chilling
I absolutely loved this movie!!! The characters were great and the cast of this movie was awesome!!! Derek mears did a awesome job playing jason. It was one of the best remake of a horror movie I've ever seen
I ran across your channel a few months ago and I've really come to love all of your reviews... I actually got excited when I saw this particular one posted. Keep up the great work buddy! I think you're going to be really big one day!
I couldn't agree more. I grew up with all the old ones and all of them had aspects to it that I enjoyed very much. As this remake came out I was afraid it would suck but already after the very first watch it became my favourite of the entire franchise! Let the haters hate, I never cared. I like lot of stuff only a few people like and I'm ok with that. This movie is a blast and other than the remake of Nightmare On Elm Street it showed how things have to get done these days. Jared was a great add to the cast and Jason... OMG, this is the true Jason all the way down to the core. Keep up the great work!
Was waiting so long for you to review this, ever since you stated Derek Mears was your favorite Jason. Plus this is a highly underrated film and is easily one of the best Friday the 13th films although I still like part 4 more but then again Iam a ted white fan. And it’s so nice to see someone being truthful about this film and giving it the review it deserves. Thank you Cody for not selling out and thank you and drum dums for being my go to guys especially for horror
The Collector is about a million times better than The Collection. To me it's like comparing Hostel and Hostel 2. The first was scary and raw and original and the 2nd was watered down and just more mainstream.
Very underrated movie. It gets ragged on undeservingly so, I’m glad someone finally said it . I don’t see why there wasn’t many to follow afterwards . It’s sad, but hopefully they pick back up where this one left off one day. It’s dope ass movie.
My absolute FAVORITE things about this movie that I found to be an improvement on the originals: 1) Jason being a survivalist/scavenger which I found was a great way to show how he survived all these years in the wilderness from childhood. 2) Jason is fuckin RUNNING and it is TERRIFYING hearing those heavy footsteps, absolutely amazing.
I love all your reviews. They are so on point. This movie is so good that it works as a stand alone movie while making you want to go back and watch the others. I also think we will be enjoying this one for quite some time as it won't age to much.
As a lifelong Friday fan born in 82, this is the only one I ever got to see in theaters. And it was AMAZING. I'll never forget the energy in the theater after that opening sequence.
I'm glad you like this, Cody. It is one of the most intense, brutal Friday ones for sure. Speaking of: would you rank this above Texas Chainsaw 2003 remake? Another solid one.
i love this movie. It was an axident for me to see this. I was trying to rent the 1980 one but i did not know i was renting the remake, and i love this movie to death (top 2 friday films)
Finally ! Someone who doesn’t hate this movie for the sake that it’s a remake. I see a ton of reviews where people claim this is the worst movie in the franchise and I’ve never understood it. Great review!
Cody, if you're reading this, I just want to say, thank you for this review. It's ridiculous how Friday fans hate on this remake. Seriously, nudity, over the top gore, and lack of story? Why is that okay for, like, EVERY film in this franchise EXCEPT THIS ONE???!!!
I am a Friday fan and Jason lives is my favorite (including CJ Graham's Jason). But I totally agree with you. I never understood why so many fans hated the remake. Not only did I find it good, but I wish they had maintained the atmosphere and intensity displayed during the intro.
Watched it for the first time tonight and Holllyy Shiittt best slasher I've watched since I fell in love with Scream. This was seriously awesome. Officially, Autumn is the Season of the Leach
Hey Cody your the man I love your channel and your reviews keep up the great work. I'm a fan of the series as well and here's all my favorite actors to play my favorite Jason's Richard Brooker, Ted White, CJ Graham, Kane Hodder, and Derek mears
I think this is one of the best ones as well, totally underrated, but I disagree on the ending, sometimes yes it seems lazy, but with Jason it seems so fitting because that’s just always been Jason’s thing
I have really enjoyed your reviews on this series. I totally agree with you about this Friday. I thought it was well done and I don’t understand why everyone hates it. Fun movie.
Finally someone that likes this movie. I have defended this flick so many times. I agree with you on almost every point except the ending. It didn't bother me. You just got a new sub!
I'll definitely be doing that also. Halloween is the one franchise that I have not watched past Part 3 (and the Rob Zombie films) just because Michael Myers was always the least interesting to me of the main slashers. When Cody starts doing this I'll be watching them as well.
I was 13 years old when this movie came out & you bet your ass I was there on opening day. It was by far one of my favorite moviegoing experiences to this day. The best part was right before the movie was shown, there was an employee that announced a warning to the crowd, "This movie contains strong language, gruesome violence, and strong sexual content, including nudity," & of course, everybody in the crowd started clapping and cheering, shouting "YAY!" and everyone had a fucking blast!
I really liked the remake of this, I love that this movie is new yet stays true to the franchise. Although it's not as good as the original, it's still really good. Some other remakes I really enjoy are The Last House on the Left, I Spit on your Grave, The Hills Have Eyes, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, When a Stranger Calls, and Black Christmas.. still the originals are much better but I really love that the remakes are different yet remains to be part of what the film was.
i saw the remake before i had a chance to see the previous movies so now that i have seen all of the friday the 13th movies. yeah the remake did a great job it was dark suspenseful and i would love to see a sequel to this franchise. great video cody
Awesome review Cody, I enjoyed the remake especially the harder cut, my only gripes is this film lacks the Manfredini score & the ending which was a huge cop out & as you quite rightly say it's just lazy. Derek Mears is a awesome Jason & deserved to reprise the role let's hope he does get the chance.
I’m with you man, I love this movie, this is actually my second favorite Friday The 13th. I have never understood the hate for this movie. If I could change one thing in this movie, I’d have it be set in 1980, instead of opening up in 1980 and then flashing forward to 2009.
When I first watched this in theaters as a teenager who has had his share in horror movies, I have to admit the movie has THE BEST opening sequence I've ever seen in a horror movie. Especially when I seen Jason RUN and the chick that was roasted alive. It was honestly terrifying. At this point it's not blasphemous to say this remake was better than the original. Truly a masterpiece and I'm sad there wasn't a sequel.
It is one of the first, I really watched from start to finish. So I have a nostalgia vibe around it. So I am a bit protective for its honour lol. I enjoyed it.
I love that both of your Nightmare and Friday remake reviews are exactly 20:21 in length lol. This movie is so bad ass, I can’t understand the hate for this movie, it makes no sense. This is the scariest Jason, hottest girls, and some of the best kills in the franchise.
I do like this movie, but am not a fan of the Pamela Voorhees actress. The acting is just a bit too fake, while Betsy Palmer had a legit scary portrayal.
I was waiting for this remake for a very long time. It was soooooo amazing seeing a Jason that was agile, was fast and very cunning, and not just sauntering around the woods like a big doofus. By far my favorite in the franchise, and yes i am old enough to appreciate the first four films, this Jason is just so much more badass.
I really love this movie, too! This is the most legitimately terrifying Jason of all the films. And the characters/actors in the opening and main film were just perfectly stereotypical and really into their roles. Capturing the sister is silly as hell, but I always have a great time with this movie whenever I watch it.
The reason The New Elm street failed, is because unlike this movie and both Rob Zombie's Halloween's, they were done smart... they didn't fix what wasn't broke while adding logical explanations to classic character traits.
Liked the Jason character, and the cinematography, but would have preferred a more slow-burn, "Never Hike Alone" approach to the narrative. It was too over the top, and tried to be all the Friday films at one time. Less is more sometimes.
@@semkok7759 Actually most Friday fans have really liked Never Hike Alone because it gets back to basics and actually develops the story. Jason is scary without being a comic book villain like he became in films like Jason Takes Manhattan and Jason X.
James Tressler You can build the story all you want with Friday the 13th but when you know the killer, Jason, it’s hard to make truly suspenseful and tense when you know it’s him. And I’m sure most people vote for him through out the movie so seeing him look like he can barely kill one person is personally embarrassing. I think if he was shown to be playing with his prey would be scarier. People watch these movies to see some badass kill some motherfuckers. After so many movies it’s hard to make Jason scary.
This is far superior than the Nightmare Remake.
MILES ahead of the Nightmare remake
GOD yes!! I agree wholeheartedly

Surperior than 80 percent of the reboots/remake during the time.

Jason Ranking
1. Derek Mears
2. Ted White (I HATE putting him at number 2, but Derek Mears is just so fucking good)
3. Richard Brooker
4. Kane Hodder
5. Ken Kirzinger
Also, Derek Myers vs Robert Englund= scary, fun, and entertaining version of Freddy vs Jason.
I'd like to see Derek Myers Jason Vorhees fight Andrew Bryniarske Leatherface.
I absolutely adore the reboot, it’s so damn good. Totally agree with everything you said Cody.
I'm so glad someone else enjoys this movie as much as my wife and I do. I like how he runs and moves around so fast with his tunnel system. Awesome review.
Thank you. This movie is badass
The Sleeping bag kill is one of my favorites!
Love the attention to detail on your intro...Jason actually MOVES from the cabin to right behind you 🤯🤯🤯
As a huge fan of the first 4 movies I completely agree with every word you said!
Awesome
I love when someone reviews a remake without beating on it for being a remake. Keep on doing your awesome videos.
Thank the good universe for allowing me to see this when i was only 9yrs old in theaters, this movie is badass.
Yet another great movie review mate. I will be honest I genuinely jumped at that intro so good Job. Loved how in depth you went and how honest you were. Great job
The Reason Why People Hate This Movie: *Michael Bay*
To me, I love it because it’s under the name “Friday the 13th”
But at least Michael bay did a good job at friday the 13th
That’s terrible reasoning considering the newest “Black Christmas” movie
@@YSEternal_ yeah the new black Christmas is terrible
People would hate any movie that has Michael Bay's name credited in it.
@@cinematicworldofbenji9311 even though he’s not a half bad director
Upon recent rewatch this was criminally Under appreciated. Saw it in theaters for my 15th birthday in February 2009. Will never forget that.
What’s everybody complaining about?! This movie does the same shit as all the other movies, just 10 times better. 😒 This movie is fucking awesome
A fucking men!!!
I just want a sequel to this Masterpiece
Same
I honestly would like a sequel that is like the new beginning
I absolutely loved this movie!!! The characters were great and the cast of this movie was awesome!!! Derek mears did a awesome job playing jason. It was one of the best remake of a horror movie I've ever seen
that intro made me throw my headphones off so fast haha
Me too and I knew it had to be coming. 😂😂😂
I ran across your channel a few months ago and I've really come to love all of your reviews... I actually got excited when I saw this particular one posted. Keep up the great work buddy! I think you're going to be really big one day!
Thank you!
if they do make another Friday the 13th Movie
they should bring back jared padalecki character back along with the actress who played his sister
Agreed
I couldn't agree more. I grew up with all the old ones and all of them had aspects to it that I enjoyed very much. As this remake came out I was afraid it would suck but already after the very first watch it became my favourite of the entire franchise! Let the haters hate, I never cared. I like lot of stuff only a few people like and I'm ok with that. This movie is a blast and other than the remake of Nightmare On Elm Street it showed how things have to get done these days. Jared was a great add to the cast and Jason... OMG, this is the true Jason all the way down to the core. Keep up the great work!
Key-Si Ling this Jason is like a seasoned veteran in the NFL
Brother was running in a straight line lol. His track coach must have been Rickon Stark
You should definitely review the Collector and collection! Two of my favorite scary movies and honestly one of my favorite horror movie protagonists!
The Collector is about a million times better than The Collection. To me it's like comparing Hostel and Hostel 2. The first was scary and raw and original and the 2nd was watered down and just more mainstream.
This is the most spot on and perfect review of this movie that I’ve seen
Glad you enjoyed it
Very underrated movie. It gets ragged on undeservingly so, I’m glad someone finally said it . I don’t see why there wasn’t many to follow afterwards . It’s sad, but hopefully they pick back up where this one left off one day. It’s dope ass movie.
09 Friday the 13th is AWESOME
Finally!!!! Someone who loves this movie like I do.
My absolute FAVORITE things about this movie that I found to be an improvement on the originals:
1) Jason being a survivalist/scavenger which I found was a great way to show how he survived all these years in the wilderness from childhood.
2) Jason is fuckin RUNNING and it is TERRIFYING hearing those heavy footsteps, absolutely amazing.
I Love this Friday The 13TH movie too.
I love all your reviews. They are so on point. This movie is so good that it works as a stand alone movie while making you want to go back and watch the others. I also think we will be enjoying this one for quite some time as it won't age to much.
Glad to see im not the only one who really enjoys this movie. I loved to see a bit of different version of jason.
As a lifelong Friday fan born in 82, this is the only one I ever got to see in theaters. And it was AMAZING. I'll never forget the energy in the theater after that opening sequence.
Hey man love your videos
I'm glad you like this, Cody. It is one of the most intense, brutal Friday ones for sure.
Speaking of: would you rank this above Texas Chainsaw 2003 remake? Another solid one.
HA! I love that intro!!
Thanks man
I just binged watched all your Friday the 13th reviews. Great reviews brotha!
i love this movie. It was an axident for me to see this. I was trying to rent the 1980 one but i did not know i was renting the remake, and i love this movie to death (top 2 friday films)
Cody’s genuine passion is what keeps me watching. Much love brother 🙏
Just got through watching this movie, and I must say this is up there with my favorite remakes of all time! Great review man!
Thank you
Finally ! Someone who doesn’t hate this movie for the sake that it’s a remake.
I see a ton of reviews where people claim this is the worst movie in the franchise and I’ve never understood it.
Great review!
Anyone who says that is fuckin stoned
So glad you liked it too!! I thought it was pretty good. Thanks for the video.
Did you watch the whole video or skip to my rating? Lol
Cody Leach lol I’m watching it now! I got over excited from just the opening lol... I’ll work on that😉
I suck at waiting what can I say, plus Friday the 13th is one of my favorite series
It's all good was just curious
Cody, if you're reading this, I just want to say, thank you for this review.
It's ridiculous how Friday fans hate on this remake.
Seriously, nudity, over the top gore, and lack of story?
Why is that okay for, like, EVERY film in this franchise EXCEPT THIS ONE???!!!
Yessir. Best Jason forsure. They need him but did you ever compare the killer extended cut
I'm a fan of the series as well and here's all my favorite actors to play my favorite Jason's
Richard Brooker, Ted White, CJ Graham, Kane Hodder, and Derek mears
This movie was awesome I don't care what people says i love this film
What's your opinion of the new Wrpng Turn movie. I'll def be there for the midnight showing.
I think this is one of the best ones as well, totally underrated, but I disagree on the ending, sometimes yes it seems lazy, but with Jason it seems so fitting because that’s just always been Jason’s thing
Which remake is better freddy 2010, Friday the 13 2009, or halloween 2007
1:42 - Nah. No need. I thought it was pretty good, too. I don't really know of anyone who hated it, either.
I am so glad I’m not the only person that absolutely loves this movie. Really enjoyed your reviews of the franchise!! Can’t wait for the rank vid.
Full HalloweeN series review anytime soon? . . Possibly leading up to the new film in October?
Yes
Cody Leach hell yeah! Cant wait!
I actually agree with everything you say and I’m a hardcore Jason/Friday the 13th fan my favorite slasher of all time
When I first watched this in theaters as a teenager who has had his share in horror movies, I have to admit the movie has THE BEST opening sequence I've ever seen in a horror movie.
By far my favorite in the franchise, and yes i am old enough to appreciate the first four films, this Jason is just so much more badass.
good review your right it was really good.
I really love this movie, too! This is the most legitimately terrifying Jason of all the films. And the characters/actors in the opening and main film were just perfectly stereotypical and really into their roles. Capturing the sister is silly as hell, but I always have a great time with this movie whenever I watch it.
this review to Friday the 13th 2009 was fantastic it really was and the movie was great.
@@semkok7759 I like the director Vicente's style. Also, I heard he's interested in remaking the original Pamela Voorhees story.
It was entertaining, in my opinion. Would love a sequel with Tommy.
Never really understood why this movie got so much hate. I've seen all the movies in the franchise, and this is honestly one of the best ones.
