If a movie can still be scary af in broad daylight, that's when you know you have a badass villian. It's not easy to do, to still be intense while theirs sun shining in the background
Facts upon facts bro. The big movie company’s still can’t seem to figure it out. And it only took a couple of folk to make a slasher worth watching. Hollywood is clueless.
Davy James 100% this could have been 20 minutes and still been better than the sequels I’d say the best part is the suspension and my fav seen is when Jason tilts his he’s like MM and when you see Jason Speed walking through the forest chase scene
I loved this film. it's a shame to me it's not canon in the series. the actor did a truly fine job, the Jason actor did a wonderful job., and this was suspenseful, very well shot and edited, and the music.....wow. great film.
Thank you so much for telling us about this! I had never heard of this, until now. I didn't watch your review until I looked this up, and enjoyed the hell out of it. Loved the crime scene tags, to add the sense of dread.
it's finally over. I also had a blast keeping up with all these reviews. good job dude. and yes this should be the official Friday film we should have gotten. best fan film ever filmed. so good it seems like a Hollywood feature. loved that last 10 minutes. totally geeked out.
Totally agree. Such an awesome fan film. Even placed my order in for a Blu Ray copy. The lead actor kept ur attention n held his own on the movie. I loved the tension of the film how it kept u wandering when Jason was going to finally show up. N of course the end what a pay off. Can’t wait for more from them if they can. Thanks Cody.
Kevin Yes they were able by law to make copies n sell them for the cost it cost to make them. They even had a very limited run of VHS copies but those sold out fast. Idk if they have any more copies of the Blu Ray still for sell u have to check their web site to see.
Shane Rod I looked for it right after the review and got my hands on one. They had like 25-30 left. Best 20 bucks I could spend 😀 would have loved a VHS copy
Again, thank you Cody for including your review of "Never Hike Alone" in your Friday playlist. More people should know about this, especially the fans.
Hey man I stumbled across your channel a couple of weeks ago and I'm really digging all of your videos. Very well argued, articulate and entertaining. Your videos are fun to watch and that's not always the case with a lot of people sharing their opinions about movies, games and music. I had never heard of this movie, Never Hike Alone, prior to discovering your ranking of the Jason movies video. I looked it up on RUclips just based off of your recommendation alone and I was pretty impressed. Never thought that a relatively low budget fan film could produce something of that quality. I was thoroughly entertained from start to finish so thanks for bringing this to my attention.
Another great review Cody!!!! Here's my updated rankings on the series: 13. Jason X 12. Never Hike Alone 11. Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan 10. Freddy vs Jason 9. Part 7: The New Blood 8. Jason Goes To Hell 7. Part 5: A New Beginning 6. Friday the 13th: Part 3 5. Friday the 13th (2009) Remake 4. Friday the 13th Part 2 3. Friday the 13th (1980) 2. Part 4: The Final Chapter 1. Part 6: Jason Lives
There's another fan film I discovered that I liked. It was Michael vs. Jason: Evil Emerges. I don't care for fan films myself, but this one and the vs film were pretty cool.
I, in fact, did go into this movie blind on a separate movie app, I was pleasantly surprised. LOVED seeing Thom Matthews, that was an unexpected bonus.
When this was recommended to me, I was hesitant and then I watched it. When I actually jumped...JUMPED...in my chair I was so fucking impressed. This was just so damn good and the fan service all the way through it, especially at the end...YES!
I ended up watching this movie ON Friday the 13th because of how you spoke about it in your ranking video. Made me really curious and I felt like, come on, I had to watch at least one of the movies on the actual day. It was a really enjoyable movie. Like you said, that guy was a good actor because I was hooked throughout, even when he was the only one we saw for a while. The music, the lighting. It was all great.
This was a damn good fan film for Friday the 13th. So good in fact, that I actually don't mind seeing this as a part of the franchise, even if unofficially. It was nice to see that Womp Stomp was willing to do something different without breaking away from this franchise's roots ...and succeed. Nice Job. 👍
Late to this, but i agree 100% with your assessments, both the positive and the minor negatives. WSF did an incredible job and their love for the franchise really shines through. Feels like it was made by fans for fans. Hopefully they can get involved in the studio series in some capacity.
Just went to Never Hike Alone, and wow what can you say AWESOME!! My only question would be that after 30+ years I wouldn't think the camp or the items in it would look so good. But even so thumbs waaaaay up!!!
Thanks for the heads up on this movie Cody. We had a great time watching this. Now I have to go see what Lee says about it since he is an old school fanboy like myself. I did the 2009 version too.
This movie was AMAZING!!!! Sooo well done!!! But yeah, I agree with the nitpicks. My only other nitpick is I would’ve liked the red arrows on the mask. But that takes nothing away from the badassery of the film.
Thanks for the recomandation man, wouldn't have heard about it if you didn't mention it. Also thought it was great and just recommended it to a lot of people too lol.
The reason why we're still not getting a new F13 movie 9 years later is because the rights are currently split between 3 different places due to a lawsuit.
Dude, you are so right! Those last 10mins had me floored! My cousin and I are big Friday fans and that was more than a kiss on the mouth to the fans, it was full on reacharound! lol #HappyFridatThe13th!
I loved the film. The only thing I disliked was how loud Jason’s foot steps were. I think they could have toned that down a bit. I recognized the gloves and hood they used for Jason. I’ve ordered many silicone masks from composite effects. Great company
This is the best fan film on RUclips in my opinion. It did fan films justice. The protagonist is interesting and a good actor. Also, the portrayal of Jason is good too. I’ll give it a 4/5 Stars.
Awesome review Cody, you can tell the people behind this fan film love the franchise, it's well written & shot, if the new Halloween film is a big hit I suspect a new Friday the 13th may get greenlit, it needs a production team writing, producing & directing who respect the franchise.
Seen it loved it. The reason it's so awesome is because the crew put so much effort into it and that's because they were passionate because they love the series.
New Friday 13th film script: Jason in Crystal Lake killing people Hollywood: BUT WHERE'S THE PSYCHIC POWERS?!?!?! Shit director: BUT WHERE'S THE ORIGINS STORY?!?!?!?!? Shit producer: BUT I HATE JASON!!!!! Shit writer: BUT WHERE'S THE PART WHERE IT ESTABLISHES IT'S A REBOOT?!?!?!?! Shit critics: BUT WHY DOES IT PLAY IT SAFE?!?!?!?! Fans: Where's the fucking movie
Great review of a great film! I actually interviewed the director/Jason Vincente DiSanti on my channel (not trying to promote in your comments so I won't do something lame like including a hyperlink, heh). That man LOVES this series and went out of his way to send a love letter to the Friday fans while at the same time not compromising his vision for it. His energy for the project was readily apparent, and all of the little easter eggs that he threw into the film were awesome. I didn't even realize on the first viewing that all of the police "markers" in the film were where they were because this actually took place at the very first movie's camp! Andrew Leighty put on a great performance as well. I am no fan of found footage either, but it was done tastefully in this film and made actual sense. I didn't like the Godzilla-sized sounds of Jason's tread either, but there wasn't much else that I didn't like in this film. In the "nightmare" kill scene, one of the better kills in the series actually took place too. Whether it was intended or not, this film was a DIRECT challenge to the hacks in Hollywood about how to make an actual good horror film. You don't need 30 mil, tons of cgi, and Abercrombie-model actors to bring a memorable Friday film to fruition, just passion and dedication like Womp Stomp obviously brought to the project. Also once again, great review!
I was twelve years old when I watched Friday the 13th part 5. I was very scared when I watched that movie in 1985. I was not scared when I watched part 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Freddy vs Jason and 2009 version. When I watched Never Hike Alone, the jump scares alone, makes this a good movie.
As a fan from childhood I liked it, kinda used the blair witch approach though but it was good. Nice shock in the end, I still wonder how they got....well I cant spoil it but the end was a real shock. Still confused on if he was dreaming in the end.
Is it really that good? I've been meaning to get around to this movie but just havnt yet so before I watch it Is it really that good? Will I regret watching it?
I like it but I still prefer friday 1,2,3, 4, 6 and the remake. I even find jason x and go to hell more rewatchable but if I had to rank for quality it would be right behind part 3. 4,6,2,remake, 3 then this.
After your cell phone rant, I am now an official fan! Never Hike Alone was awesome! In my opinion one of the best Friday the 13ths, and the two guys at the end were pretty terrible, and I'm not sure how I learned this, but one of them is Tommy Jarvis from Friday 13th Part 6, so I'm not sure if the bad acting is on purpose or not... He was also in Return of the Living Dead. Also, I need to ask you and I need to ask Lee from drumdums if you all can watch and review The Exorcist 3 and the director's cut Legion and compare them at some point they're great movies. The only other Exorcist worth anything and it is a great movie!!! One last thing, and I find this to be very important... An idea for a Nightmare on Elm Street reboot that I want to get out there somehow, I just want the word to get out there, They should remake A Nightmare on Elm Street part 3 and make it dark like the original. And it'll be something new re making a sequel and a reboot. I think that's a cool idea...Thoughts? I don't want any credit, I just want to see the damn movie!
I can't wait for the sequel to this to come out this was a amazing fan fil also the prequel never hike in the snow was awesome to keep up the great review Cody
Love this franchise love this entry for a fan film I would love to see Jason in a winter snowy crystal lake setting only gripe on this is Jason's footsteps I kept thinking about Robocop walking. great movie great reveiw thanks man
Cody Leach sweet, can't wait. I'm really interested in what it's gonna be about, I saw a post on Facebook about it but I didn't read it all cause the person who posted it had many typos and to me it's usually a red flag, but I went and searched on the internet and I guess it was real, I'm actually excited to see how better or worse it could be compared to never hike alone.
If you loved this fan film you need to watch the fan movie Friday the 13th: vengeance. It is based and attached to the original franchise and honestly its better than the kane hodder series of jason and the kills are really good for a fan movie
I just watched it and read in the comments from wompstomp that the movie cost 40k 20 crowd funded and 20 private.... that being said was an amazing job either way
Im About to see that Movie !! Dude how cool are you ? Let me answer,,,,veryyyy cool. Thank you so much for this review. I didnt know About that Movie at all untill i saw your TOP 10 best Horror Movies. Nowww i have to see it. SOOO thanks a lot CODY. Love your Reviews.
I never was a Friday 13th fan the movies never scared me or appealed to me BUT Never Hike Alone is GOLD. It should have been on the big screen. Vincente Desanti as The Shape in Spirit of Haddonfield wrote, starred and directed this one, the dialogue is interesting, Vincente Desanti as Jason Voorhees looked different from his other role in SOH, he was heavy as a possessed dead corpse because Pamela Voorhees brought him back from the grave. Andrew Leighty as Kyle McLeod carried the movie well and did a better performance than most famous actors combined. Well acted and beautifully shot that kept me in suspense. The cacophonous music score was there but not too tacked on like the other Jason Voorhees movies. No horny Teens no bare bumbums on screen. Entertaining Classy slasher . I loved it 10/10 Jason movies should be made like this.
Cody the reason i believe on why it takes so long to make these F13th movies is because corporate executives from these movie companies simply don't want to spend the money to make them, and they wanna be "involved" in the process of making it.
Great review as always! I really liked this film, the only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the ending which I thought felt a little flat during the ambulance scene. Almost wished it had ended when he leapt out of the lake and crushed his head.
I enjoyed it. the main character was definitely better than any of the characters in VII through X and almost on par with Jared Padeleki in the remake. It made me feel isolated enough to achieve the feeling they were going for I still think the remake had the best setting of the whole franchise but they had a bigger budget so I can’t really blame this movie for that. I think I personally would’ve put a couple more characters in there just to get a few more kills I feel like because of that I can’t properly compare this Jason to ted white or Derek mears. All in all it succeeded at what it was intended to do. Great review series man the intros were really funny.
It's gonna be a while till we get a Friday the 13th film cause the original writer Victor Miller is sueing the original director Sean S. Cunningham for the rights.
If a movie can still be scary af in broad daylight, that's when you know you have a badass villian. It's not easy to do, to still be intense while theirs sun shining in the background
I just saw the director and mentioned the heavy foot steps. He responded with “he walks with the weight of the curse”. How badass!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Loved that intro!! Never trust a Lomax!!
Never!!!
Facts upon facts bro. The big movie company’s still can’t seem to figure it out. And it only took a couple of folk to make a slasher worth watching. Hollywood is clueless.
Absolutely
@@CodyLeachYT Only Chucky and Michael Myers seem to be the only ones that have returned to the modern screen.
Funny thing is this is more of a survival horror movie than a slasher flick.

Agreed. I think womp stomp did a better job than a lot of the theatrical releases.
Sure did
Cody Leach Jesus, small independent film makers make better movies than big movie companies sometimes!

I loved it 10/10
Jason movies should be made like this.
Great fan film!... But the best is still The Finale Chapter!
Roxanne Brunk -_-
Ha A yeah
I'm enjoying it, it's great but the only thing that bugs me is Jason's footsteps he would never walk that heavy
Jacqueline Waugh he walks that way to show how he is intimidating and powerful
Dont Leave
Cody the reason i believe on why it takes so long to make these F13th movies is because corporate executives from these movie companies simply don't want to spend the money to make them, and they wanna be "involved" in the process of making it.
I just watched this film today. Then watched this. And I say, make this film into a full length movie!
How did they get the rights to be able to sell copies? That wouldn't be cheap, for sure.
They did another kickstarter. Still copies available look up Womp Stomp on Twitter
Hilarious intro!!!!!
Great review as always! I really liked this film, the only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the ending which I thought felt a little flat during the ambulance scene. Almost wished it had ended when he leapt out of the lake and crushed his head.
your review was so much better, I could get behind it, and it made more sense then his.
Foot stomps were a bit much Especially with the subwoofer LOL
derek myers, ted white, and ghost jason are the best.
The false endings didn't bother you in this one, especially since they doubled down on them in the end?
Lol, that intro was awesome! Hilarious! BTW, did I miss the A Quiet Place review? I am dying to know your thoughts.
Gonna record this weekend. It just got out on hold so I could fi ish this series
I CANT WAIT! to hear your thoughts especially on it. It was really good. A lot to talk about!
It's gonna be a while till we get a Friday the 13th film cause the original writer Victor Miller is sueing the original director Sean S. Cunningham for the rights.
Will this be in your ranking?
This Jason is like zombie Jason and reboot Jason combined
Yes it is
