Some people suck, man. I get hourly hate on my channel for having an opinion as well. People on the Internet act so tough. Just gotta remember that people who spread hate on the internet really hate themselves inside. Just shake it off. Your channel is great and you're the man. Take care bro
Laurie causing the bus crash trying to kill Michael would be a awesome twist and that Laurie now has to worry even more and that it would be cool to see Laurie and Michael both die at the end . Michael takes his last breath and Laurie wonded bleeding out in front of her daughter and stepdaughter .
Yes. Laurie causing the accident would have worked better. Remove the Dr. Sartain twist, don't kill Hawkins, maybe even have him in the final act with Laurie and the gang. The father I don't care for, but if you kill him, have his family react. I mean their father/husband just died and they don't shed a single tear, nothing. Also, Laurie dying in the end wouldn't be the worst thing. Either pass the torch or kill both her and Michael.
The Halloween Resurrection easter egg came up when the podcasters stop at the gas station, you see (what I think was a church van) had "Resurrection" written on the side.
Also that off handed comment the father said about how he could protect his family, he knew kung fu, or something to that affect, made me think of the infamous kung fu fight in Resurrection.
Mark G there was another resurrection nod most missed besides that which I noticed. Right before Michael gets hit by the car with the doctor and cop driving, he looks exactly like he did in the found footage cams of resurrection in the headlights for a second right before they hit him. You would almost think it was Brad Loree.
Way too generous for something that retreads over a lot of the same territory that they supposedly were trying to retcon, both in the sequels and the entire slasher genre.
Kyle Winfrey spoiler:::: not really a loomis tho. He’s a wannabe. And luckily got killed off by the end of the movie so if they release another he won’t be a factor.
I was also surprised when the dad got butchered and the daughter and granddaughter didn't seem to give two shits. Almost like they'd already planned to use him as bait or something.
They didn’t really know that he was murdered though. Only Laurie saw the body. But I have to agree it’s like they suddenly forgot that their husband/dad was there as well and now he’s missing.
I think Judy Greer was purposely "robotic" in her portrayal of Laurie's daughter. She was somebody who had worked for her entire adult life, to shed her true identity, and she's pretty much a "zombie". Her whole "rose-colored sunglasses" view of a world full of love was obviously a bullshit facade. She lost her sense of self out of the shame for her mom and her issues, that she did everything she could to distance herself from her, and pretty much become a polar opposite of Laurie.
I think so too, like she was putting on a mask to portray the normality that she worked so hard for. She kept mentioning how she was in therapy for years to get rid of the paranoia and I think she just never did and it was all surface level.
I guess you didn't stick around to hear Michael's breathing at the end of the credits. THAT alone indicates that he got away again. Speaking of which, Nick Castle not only performed Michael in one scene of the movie, but he also did Michael's breathing, which I thought was really cool. Oh, and if you look at Michael's face in this film, you can see his eye's messed up from being stabbed by a coat hanger. Also, there's more than one Halloween II Easter egg in this film. The first was what you mentioned, but the other was during the scene where we're introduced to Allyson's friends. Dave wonders if it was Laurie's brother who killed the three babysitters 40 years ago, but Allyson says that people made up that theory. It's a pretty damn good callback.
Yeah I honestly checked out mentally for awhile after that happened. That was the moment when I realized this movie just wasn't what it should have been. Sucks, really wanted to love this one.
Dude, You're the best! The way you give zero fucks about what everybody says about your opinion is amazing. I disagree with a lot of your reviews and still watch everyone of them, that's how entertaining your videos are.
I think its clear that Michael is drawn to Laurie, like the scenes hes drawn to her voice. When he sees her through the window he literally walks past the cop who shot at him to go get Laurie. To me Myers wanted her because she was the one who got away from him.
if you havent been laid your whole life youd be drawn to any chick in haddonfield myers season strode season myers season strode season myers season now fire hunting strodes hehehehe
Shame to hear about the trolls and the unnecessary comments made Cody. Keep doing your thing - your reviews are great even if I can't always agree with you I love hearing another opinion.
The doctor being a villain really threw me for a loop. The part that bothered me was how this old man, who had just been shot in the shoulder, is somehow able to move Michael into the police car. How? I was discussing it with my husband and he was trying to rationalize it- he’s a doctor, he must have access to drugs, he probably took adrenaline 😂
Same way how Michael is supposedly to be an old man in this movie and has ungodly strength and smashes a skull with one stomp, same way how he gets his hand blown off and doesn't bleed out to death, same way how he gets hit by a car and not injured, same way how he gets shot and gets back up like nothing happened. Same way how he magically escapes the fire.
@@thefitnesslife4988 To be honest: 1. Age wise, strength is the last thing to go. He's never been fast, thus it's still believable enough. 2. He only lost 2 fingers, not the full hand. 3. The rest, is Halloween must.
Not that I didn’t like 3rd act but after hearing both your reviews there was some confusing decisions: the weird thing knockoff loomis did, no reaction to dad dying, the bahn mi conversation, etc. holy crap kinda baffling
I know I'm late on this, however after watching the movie enough. There is a reference to resurrection. In the scene where Aaron is pumping gas there is a van that pulls up with the word resurrection on it.
I must saw this movie and I absolutely loved the movie. The kills were amazing, the call backs weren't all that in your face and this Michael was more terrifying than A lot of the previous Michaels. My downsides to the film was the school dance subplot, a lot of the minor characters and that humor. But those few things didn't take me out the film and I quite enjoyed it
@@williamcurry4868 and same thing with that Doctor, how he was behind all of Michael's stuff. Like, it was an interesting concept but they only focused on it for like 2 minutes and then it was gone
A very thorough amd honest review. Thank You for not praising this movie as some tour de force that most are claiming it to be. It was enjoyable but had major flaws.
I couldn't take the film seriously after that. I was just scratching my head. When the ending scenes were happening i was just so confused by why and how on earth it got added to the film, i couldn't focus on the film and take it seriously
I didn't like it, but I kinda think I maybe get what they were going for. I feel like Dr. Sartain was supposed to represent a morbid curosity for Michael something that others in the movie and we as an audience wonder...what drives Michael? Sartain represents the human need to "understand." This is in contrast to Dr. Loomis who knew that Michael was purely and simply...evil. Sartain was so desperate for answers, even as Michael was about to kill him, Sartain implored Michael to speak....anything. This thirst for curisoity led to his demise....sometimes there are no answers for why people are the way they are. In this respect, he was the antithesis to Loomis. Where I think they went kinda screwy with it was having him kill the police officer...having himself become a psycho killer just to get into Michael's head, and it feels so random and then so quickly disposed of. I think they could have portrayed it as more of a tragic aspect of a scientist who just desperately wants answers, but can't have them. Even with that in my mind, I still concede, if that's what they were going for, it was poorly executed.
That last segment you added regarding the negative comments and how you deal with them is one of the reasons why I honestly think that your channel is the best one in this category on RUclips; purely based on how honest you are. Thanks for the videos Cody, your content really makes my day. This is a return viewing by the way, of many. I binged the friday the 13th and elm street series review playlists over the course of this Monday gone 🤣🤣
There was a shot of the van at the gas station that focused on the word "Resurrection" on the side of the van. I like to think that was as little as they wanted to reference that one haha.
So glad you mentioned no emotional reactions to the dad’s death. Finally, someone mentions it. I agree, he could’ve been taken out early the movie completely
One thing I will add, is that this film felt like it wanted to update and bring in new fans. When there have been so many sequels, it’s easier to introduce new people in a concise package. If failed on that front imo.
Apparently Laurie was suppose to cause the bus crash. They re shot the footage to make Laurie a hero instead of having the blood of all of the victims on her hands. So all of the Psychiatrist scenes were reshoots.
Kind of silly to think they would need anyone to cause the bus crash, except for Michael. He certainly didn't need any assistance in breaking out in the first one.
This is why a lot of horror movies and shows are being written in the 70's 80's and 90's. Much easier to break into cars/hot wire them, etc, no security cameras everywhere, no cell phones.
The score was incredible. The moment the granddaughter sees the shape behind the gate her friend is impaled on, that thrilling, electronic, imposing synth beat plays and it gave me the chills. Loved it. Underrated movie.
Cody takes a shot....Halloween 2...and HE SCORES! Sir, you are so intelligent it frightens me. BRILLIANT demasking strategy with that "Rob Zombie's Halloween 2" argument!
I'm a die hard Halloween fan, and I've pretty much agreed with most of your points on the franchise. Every movie has had flaws that has made me cringe a little, but I still enjoy all the movies. Each one has entertaining qualities about it. BTW, I've always thought the Zombie's Halloween movies were underappreciated. Obviously there are horseshit parts but I enjoyed the humanising of Myers that Rob did. Before Rob's, I've always wondered why Michaels hair never grew. I can't picture Michael spending Oct 30th getting a shave and a haircut before his big day
17:07 Wasn't Allyson's boyfriend supposed to be the son of the lad who bullied Tommy Doyle in the original? Lonnie Elamb was the kid from the original's name and Allyson's boyfriend is called Cameron Elamb?
after second viewing i was way more turned off by the comedy than i was the first viewing and disliked the dad character even more. with that said the parts i loved, i liked even more.
As a die hard fan of the franchise, I think alot more could have been done to Michael in this film if you know what I mean. He's a force, he's evil and unstoppable. The only damage and punishment that he came across was being clipped and shot in the shoulder a few times, hand blown off, stabbed repeatedly in the arm and run over by a car. A normal human being could survive all those wounds. I understand this is a direct sequel to Halloween and ignores every other sequel. But you know what in for you when you watch Michael do his thing. He has supernatural strength, stealth and endurance. Why not balance that out and justify how evil and unstoppable he truly is. I know the script calls for it and hes protected due to the fact that he is a product. Any thoughts??
13:45 I totally agree with you here, Cody. I also thought it would of been a better story if Laurie was the reason why Michael had escaped from the bus transferring incident. Definitely would of been a more satisfying scene
Im not sure if this has been mentioned, but a Resurrection reference is when the podcasters get to the gas station, and the old lady in the van is watching them, the van has Resurrection Church written on the side of the van!
Idk if this was meant to be a reference but when the podcasters are at the gas station, there’s a bus or a van that says “resurrection” in big letters.
I kind of wonder if the doctor was originally a bigger part of the 3rd act. If they did reshoots due to test audiences negative responses, maybe that’s why his story is wrapped up so fast in the final version.
Great thoughts. Might be a subtle nod to Silence of the Lambs, but the 5-7 minute sequence when Laurie leaves the basement and is looking for Michael in all of the rooms of the house - that was awesome, very tense and suspenseful.
Dude I saw it tonight! Your review was bang on!!! I also was very frustrated. It felt like I was watching two different movies! Danny McBride killed this movie ! This movie could had been great ! The writing was bad ! And they had tension building and then bam they throw in bad jokes that killed tension and sent u as a viewer back and forth in a bad way! They did alot of good things with camera , shots, lighting ! But like u said it lack true horror/ thriller tension! There was some great kills! And it was very frustrating because they start building some amazing tension and momentum! Then they pull u to a dance that felt soo off that it ruined all that momentum. That was the biggest issue of this movie was why did they need to have or try to have so much lame humor ? I dont get it. Why Danny McBride had to be apart of Halloween? I'm lost at this decision the studio made here ! Over time this movie will fade because it's just not even close to the first one which might be my favorite horror movie of all time. I agree with u on Judy Greer!!! Bad casting and directing with her character! That line was awful people laughed at that line in the theater about penis joke! It was so off ! U are soo right about it all. I agree 1000 % great stuff. This movie should had been kick Ass. I wish john carpenter could had just made it !! Jamie Lee and her grand daughter I liked alot!!
Well we don't know what McBride wrote of course! But hes a comedy. So I would probably think most of the jokes and bad writing had alot ro do with Danny!! I'm guessing
Most people consider H2o below par though most of the Halloween sequels all split people. The problem isnt the humor its how its done the humor in H 2018 feels like its from another film. The horror is great in that film but the humor is really bad except for some hits here an there like the baby sitter scene. The movie itself is the third best after 1 an 2.
I know it’s been a couple years, but the idea of Judy Greer sacrificing herself and realizing all her training wasn’t for nothing is a brilliant idea. I personally didn’t mind the ending too much but now I wish so much that they went in that direction
I wouldn’t be too surprised if one of the three strode girls sacrifices herself in Halloween Kills/Halloween Ends. I just feel like either Judy Greer’s character is gonna die or JLC character.
I hope they DON'T. I liked this movie, but I'm tired of sequels. They need to just be done. This had a good ending...there was no "Aha! Michael's not really dead" moment at the end, and Laurie Strode is triumphant. THE END. But...I know they wont. There will inevitably be another. While I know it may not financially make the most sense, from an artistic perspective, I wish they would just stop on a good note, a good movie instead of a bad one.
My review of Halloween (2018): Positives -Liked the kills, especially the Jack-O-Lantern one, one where he snaps the kid’s neck, and Dr Sartin’s kill -Courtney’s portrayal of Michael Myers is the best in the series, but is still behind Nick Castle -The score of the this movie is great -Jamie Lee Curtis’ portrayal of Laurie felt alike Sarah Connor and the fight scene was good -The scene where Michael goes on his killing spree in Haddonfield was great Negatives -Didn’t like the Sartain plot twist and I wish there was better way for Michael to get to Laurie’s house -Some of comedy in this film felt really unnecessary -Most of the characters could of been written a little bit better, including Dr Sartain and Ray -Judy Greer’s performance felt robotic until the third act Final verdict for Halloween (2018), I give the movie a 7.5/10
I actually thought that the daughter was going to get pulled into and trapped in the basement with Michael....I thought it was going to Happen and I was pumped for it. Then I was completely let down... That would of been an awesome, punch in the gut ending. Love the channel Cody.
I thought with the ending the daughter, Allyson holding the knife was somewhat of a reference to Halloween 4 in my opinion plus there was the sound of Michael breathing after the end credits. I personally that leads to another film maybe
Michael should've won and killed them all. That would have been a dark scary ending and you could take the next sequel any direction you want, but unfortunately it's a hollywood movie so the "badass" girls had to win
agreed look at the film all the men except myers were portayed as weak and idiots and all the women could do no wrong lauries daughter would never marry a screw up like
It's funny listening to him now and knowing that the original plot was Laurie causing the accident but changed because people didn't like Laurie being the cause of all the deaths
My opinion about this is exactly how you describe it. I watched this 2 times in a row on opening night. I still left with a similar feeling. I tried to defend it. I've given it the benefit of the doubt. But I insist that this is exactly how I feel. I don't know what you think of Vicki's scene or Alysons "chase" sequence, but those left me so disappointed on top of the evil thirsty doctor and the inappropriate humor. And i really liked these charactors and was excited for their "big moments". Not having a silhouette or a shadow of the shape following allyson was a "wtf were they thinking" moment. Vicki's entire scene with her boyfriend asking him to go check out that noise upstairs to all of a sudden being totally fine checking it out once the kid says himself "the boogeyman is in this house" just leaves me scratching my head. Her attack felt so ..... floppy. The grunts she makes, to the kid going "oh shit" to Dave going "fuck this" to the extremely bright lights on in the hallway takes completely away from the potential tension this scene could have had. The frustration made me want to shake the film makers and ask "WTF WERE YOU THINKING?" The complete final act with JLC was pure gold. But the ending had me feeling the same way. Underwhelmed in a "that's it?" Kind of way. I will add, (it wasn't until a friend pointed this out) that the final frame of Allyson holding the knife was a call back to the first movie. It ended it on a note that says "well at least Laurie taught her granddaughter better to keep the knife in hand just in case!". As in the originai, Laurie kept throwing the knife down only to be attacked again and again. Never let your guard down so to speak. So I see that in a very poetic tone now. Sorry to hear of all the hate you received for keeping it real. Truth hurts. I think some people don't want to admit something they invested so much time in anticipating disappointed them. So they project it on anyone who dare speak on it. I know it was hard for me to go back to work and face people who asked "so, what did you think?" after hearing me talk non stop for over a year about how awesome this movie is gonna be only to have to admit "I was disappointed". 😂 I love your reviews.
We have exactly the same views when it comes to the pros and cons with this movie. The changes you would have made sound way better than what ended up in the film. Keep up the good work, your opinions are very similar to mine.
The new Digital HD Cameras they film this new sequels and remakes don't deliver the "Dreamy Look" that Panavision Cameras and celluloid film had. The magic is lost, now we see these soap operas in HD.
Mexlycan Lobo this is exactly what I hate about Scream 4 in comparison to Scream 1-3. No matter how awful 3 is I still love it cause it still aesthetically feels like Scream.
I get what you mean, but I felt they did a great job, it was beautiful shot, but not super clean or stylized in an unnecessary way. Like A Nightmare On Elm St 2010. That shit looks like a marvel movie to me, it’s waaay too clean. I think if Halloween would have added a bit more grain/noise in post, it could have helped.
It would add some weight to this franchise having Michael’s main target be Laurie’s family to get to her. It could be Laurie recovering in a hospital and instead of him just going after her once more, he goes after her family to make Laurie suffer while she feels a sense of helplessness, knowing she can’t do anything to help them. That’d be a pretty cool direction for the series to go in.
I enjoyed the movie, but I agreed with you a year ago. I didn't want to see Halloween '18 turn into another VS movie, aka Laurie VS Michael. Yeah, go nuts, start fresh. It worked pretty well, but I am adamant that JLC not return for another movie. I"m hoping the blu-ray will be an extended cut to fill in some of the edit gaps. I gave it an 8,and stand by it, but some of the errors were so unforced.
As someone who adored this movie, ranking it at #2 behind the original and highly anticipating Kills and its sequel, this is surprisingly one of my favorite reviews on the film. I love how you point out the good and the bad, explaining why the movie disappointed you and what you wished they could've done to make it better. While I'm less harsh when it comes to the comedy (the Vicky kill was the only part where it bothered me), you still make a ton of good points there and I agree completely when it comes to the Sartain twist, such a poorly exected moment that, for me at least, has a good pay-off with his death. My favorite part of the review though has to be the last few minutes, listening to your rant on people attacking you for having a different opinion resonates with me that used to be someone who'd do the same thing with games like Terraria years ago. In a very weird way, your channel feels like the _Summer of '84_ of all horror movie review channels, because like you said in that review your videos like this one have "the balls to go there", which you do by straight up admitting that H2018 disappointed you without sugar coating or trying to be 100% positive about it to avoid negative feedback (which you sadly got anyway). We may have different opinions, but that shouldn't affect the way I feel about your content, I may adore H2018 despite its minor flaws and despise RZH2 with a fiery passion, but that won't stop me from supporting your future reviews. I'll leave my thoughts on some of the films you've reviewed since I have my own differing opinions on those, otherwise keep up the good work amigo
I just went to check it out last night and I feel just the same as you, Decent Michael Myers but not to well dialogue, I love how it was like a mixture of Tyler mane and nick castle
In storyline, Michael Myers has spent 6 years of his life in Haddonfield, then locked up for like 15 years, then out for 1 day, then been locked up for 40 years. So it either makes perfect sense how he's confused killing people trying to find his childhood home, or makes no sense he remembers exactly how to get there in "Kills".
I think the doctor character would've been more interesting if he was part of a cult that worshipped Michael Myers as a god. It really would've explained his obsession, and all the other shit. Glad I got a chance to see this on Thursday. It really freed up my day to binge Daredevil Season 3.
Oh, and good job being on point with the troll commentary. Some fans need to grow up and understand that we all don't think the same. We're not like that new NPC meme. Here's a secret: I actually enjoyed Curse of Chucky. Yeah, I see all the flaws in it, like a good movie viewer should, but I don't think it really outweighs the good that movie had. It was a nice return to form to the Chucky franchise, and at times, I felt it was genuinely creepy. Hell, I liked it more than Bride and Seed, and before I re watched the entire series earlier this year, I would've rated Curse at #2 in my personal ranking (For the record, it's now #4, behind the original Child's Play trilogy). But my point is, people can point out glaring mistakes in a movie and still enjoy it.
After seeing the movie a second time, the only Halloween Resurrection easter egg i could spot was a van in the first act of the movie that said "Resurrection Church" on the side of it.
Randomly found your video looking for someone else to think like myself. When I say you are literally speaking from my mind.. YOU WENT INTO MY head and said exactly what I thought about the film. Well done.
I can listen to this guy talking about whatever movies for hours no matter whether the movies themselves are interesting or not. The way he talks is already fascinating.
to be fair in an interview carpenter said that he put some nods to previous halloween films as easter eggs, not in those words, but he said he'd referenced them. i get the anger through it, but i was prepared for that and smiled every time i found one.
Really dig your idea of having the daughter get locked in with Michael at the end. Would have been amazing and would tug at the heart strings with the mother daughter goodbye.
The thing that keeps me optimistic, Michael basically killed off everything wrong with this movie and I can live with the ending. If Laurie could shoot through the floor of the basement then Michael can sure as hell break out of there.
I recently found your channel in the last few weeks. Been loving everything and the content is great! The last two days I have binged just about every review from Halloween, Child's Play, ANOES, Friday, ranking videos, you name it. Very entertaining, thank you! Definitely got a sub from me!
I hated when Laurie referred to the Dr as the New Loomis. When in reality it’s Laurie is the new Loomis. She’s the only person who knows Michael, encountered Michael, and is obsessed with Michael just like Loomis in 1978. So I definitely agree with you when you say the Dr wasn’t needed and Laurie could’ve been the cause of the bus crash. Her obsession led inadvertently leading to the new kills.
This film will not age well , it's been almost 2 years and it's already aging bad. Same with H20 , same problems. Although if I had to choose watch H20 or H 2018 on Halloween night , I would watch H 2018 and it's cause of Michael Myers factor , James Courtney kills it as the shape. Also I like Laurie more in 2018 then any other sequel.
I totally wondered the same thing about the dad!! I couldn't believe no one even wondered where the hell he was or showed any emotion whatsoever to his disappearance? Maybe because like you said he didn't belong one bit.
See- I took the ending completely differently. If you remember in the first film, after Laurie fights Michael - she collapses on the couch and basically tosses the knife onto the floor. Jamie Lee herself says how ridiculous it is in a commentary. In the final scene of this one - the torch has been passed and that girl is NOT letting go of that knife - because they know he's coming back. That's how I read it.
It did kind of make me want to laugh when she said I learned how to shoot a gun at 8 I live in the south it's common for kids to learn how to shoot at a young age
I know I'm years late to this, but I've been binge watching your Hallowen playlist, and other playlists (you make damn good content) and though I disagree with you on some points, for the most part you're pretty much right on the money. I LOVE this movie, almost reluctantly because I have a lot of the same gripes with it, but it just felt like such a love letter to the entire franchise. I've always hated the family tie in the series and feel that it never should have been a thing and I think the whole Michael/Laurie thing works VASTLY better if it's just a simple obsession because she's the toy that he never got to finish playing with. I genuinely believe in that first movie, everything he did that night was with the express purpose of tormenting Laurie because she just so happened to have caught his eye. That's what The Shape is all about in my eyes. Like you said in one of your reviews, he's evil because evil is evil. And while that's almost cartoonishly simple, I get a well of nuance and interesting ideas from that concept of Myers alone. But yeah, I even have some gripes with this movie that you didn't bring up, I feel like it's ALMOST the sequel this franchise has really been waiting 4 decades to finally get delivered. At the same time, though, I 100% understand why this movie could turn someone off. Have them hate it even. As far as all of the toxicity that you experienced, I have a theory about that. I think there's some strange sociological phenomenon where franchises that start off very strong, but have a very inconsistent quality and lore, for some reason breed the MOST toxic and divisive fanbases imaginable. That's the mad scientist formula to create insane rabid toxic geeks. As a lifelong fan of Halloween (it's to me what ANOES and Child's Play are to you), I've seen it amongst this fanbase for a long time as well as with others in a similar state like the Fallout series. Basically what I'm saying is, the most evil thing that the Shape has ever done was breed Halloween fans lol
Everything you said, I can relate with. This film could have gone so many different ways. In many cases, I feel like I could’ve written a better script. I loved the references to the old film and the music was on point. But when the poor writing and characters clash, it just makes the movie a little more unpleasant to watch. A good movie overall, but not the best Halloween I’ve seen
Not going to the read the other comments and you may not read this one since it is coming so long after but you nailed this and fandom in general. Thank you for not just critiquing the film but giving thought to how it could have been different and better. I love this series but I know it has flaws and that’s fine, that’s part of being a fan. In a way you love the failures as much as the wins, as you would as a sports fan or whatever. Your thoughts on this and, especially, your take on the fandom just earned you another subscriber. Well said, Cody. Well said.
Yo, I have been watching this whole franchise and watching your movie reviews right after finishing that movie and I have disagreed with like three of your reviews but I still come back and watch the next one after I see that movie to see what you think. It baffles me that people NEED others to have the same exact thoughts as them. I like when people challenge me on my passions that they may not like or when someone enlightens me on a passion I don’t really care for or liked. It makes life interesting. You also have opened my eyes to some negatives or some positives to some of the movies that I didn’t even realize during the first watch. People need to quit being jerks.
Bro you are a genius. Not only is this whole video good, but a great ending would have been if Lori Strode's daughter became the sacrificial character and died fending off Myers so Lori and the granddaughter live. That'd be perfect. The mom dying would be fucked up and emotional to them but they can have their bond that they've always wanted.
I love watching your video's, an avid horror fan for decades. More often than not I have a different take on the movies you rate, but it didn't take long to see we share the same level of love for the genre and can appreciate seeing a different perspective on things. You were the only critic to point out the good in Zombie's Halloween movies. While I won't say I like them, there are scenes I appreciate more after your reviews of them.
I still have to go see this a second time but my biggest issues were definitely the same as yours! The entire storyline with the boyfriend was so bad, he was nothing but a poor plot device to show the strained relationship between Laurie and Karen at the dinner and, as you said, to get Allyson walking out without a cell phone. (I had the same 'really?? they couldn't have done that better?' reaction as you.) Honestly, the movie felt almost like three separate films at time and it really made it impossible to immerse myself in the first half or so. The doctor drove me NUTS because I actually was into the twist, I was thinking oh maybe they ARE going to do something different with it after all... and then it went absolutely nowhere. It had no point! Once Michael showed up at the house, I was ALL IN and that saved the movie for me because it was amazing and all the callbacks were incredibly done. I WAS on the edge of my seat and it's definitely one of the most intense sequences I've ever watched. But... when the credits rolled, I was left with the feeling of that's it? It just felt so anti-climatic and not like an ending at all; I went on a ghost tour last night wearing my Halloween shirt and the guide told me she'd seen it that day and said the same exact thing! Overall, I'd give this movie a 6.5/10 just because of the first half. Outside of the babysitter and Julian, I could have done without the teenager storylines and I wish we could have seen more of Michael stalking the way he did in the original film. I wish it had focused more on Laurie because she was amazing in this and I honestly wish Laurie had died so that we could free ourselves from that same old formula! Oh, and completely agreed on the kills too! I loved how they were a perfect mix of brutality and holding back, a perfect update to the 1978 kills! Thanks for always being so honest and upfront about everything, I love watching your reviews and I'm the same as you: I'm so happy that people like Lee who waited for so long got so much enjoyment out of it. For me, I've waited for a long time and I just wish it could have been better. I hope the inevitable sequel will be because of the honesty of people like you!
And let me also Add that I love the Dr. Leemis and Cody intros to each of your Halloween reviews . When Prisoner Cody asks the doc if he’s a whiskey man right before all hell breaks lose is awesome! That’s the kind of awesome stuff that sets you apart from other reviews! Same with the F13 review intros! I love it!!
Halloween 2018 *5/10* at best. Wasnt scary, had very lazy writing, lacked atmosphere, pointless characters, and really bad acting at times. The only person completely on point was Will Patton. For this to be a solution to "bad sequels," over the years it didnt really turn out any better. Bottom of the list. I do have more to say but I dont wanna flood the comment section with an essay.
Thanks for posting a Spoiler version of your review man. I'm thinking about going back to catch the new Halloween a second time to see if it's more enjoyable during a 2nd viewing.

oh very cool! I didn't know that!
Laurie causing the bus crash trying to kill Michael would be a awesome twist and that Laurie now has to worry even more and that it would be cool to see Laurie and Michael both die at the end . Michael takes his last breath and Laurie wonded bleeding out in front of her daughter and stepdaughter .
you came up with a better plot than these juvenile screenwriters
@@GingerZombie29 thank you!!!

Before I found his channel, I always felt this would made more sense especially with the "I prayed every night he would escape" line.
That dad character really annoyed me. I was so.pissed that no one even cared he was gone. Such an insignificant character
I know this is bit mean I'm glad Micheal killed the dad off pretty quick
I agree.
The music cue when Alison sees Michael for the first time..
Bravo Mr. Carpenter!
The Halloween Resurrection easter egg came up when the podcasters stop at the gas station, you see (what I think was a church van) had "Resurrection" written on the side.
Your right.
Was gonna say the same thing.
Also that off handed comment the father said about how he could protect his family, he knew kung fu, or something to that affect, made me think of the infamous kung fu fight in Resurrection.
Sartain was the one who took Michael to Laurie (kinda) I feel that's why he was in there lol
Mark G there was another resurrection nod most missed besides that which I noticed. Right before Michael gets hit by the car with the doctor and cop driving, he looks exactly like he did in the found footage cams of resurrection in the headlights for a second right before they hit him. You would almost think it was Brad Loree.

I enjoyed this movie overall, has some issues, but still solid. I'd give it an 8.5/10.
Im with you. The new Loomis only thing i hated other then that 8.5
Way too generous for something that retreads over a lot of the same territory that they supposedly were trying to retcon, both in the sequels and the entire slasher genre.
Kyle Winfrey spoiler::::
not really a loomis tho. He’s a wannabe. And luckily got killed off by the end of the movie so if they release another he won’t be a factor.
Id give it a 2 for the shits part 2 1981 blows this piece of crap away pamela susan shoop mmmmmmm goood
Daniel Hammond way to high. A 5 maybe
I was also surprised when the dad got butchered and the daughter and granddaughter didn't seem to give two shits. Almost like they'd already planned to use him as bait or something.
😆 Right?
The granddaughter wasn't even at the house when he got killed
They didn’t really know that he was murdered though. Only Laurie saw the body. But I have to agree it’s like they suddenly forgot that their husband/dad was there as well and now he’s missing.
Considering, that this is a trilogy, I think they saved the aftermath of the deaths deliberately for the next film.
Nah, she's just a terrible actress.
no her acting sucked
shes always been a terrible actress
I always thought Michael’s messed up eye was from when Loomis first shot grazed his face at the end of 78 but that’s also a plausible theory
@@tombruncker7013 Loomis shot Michael at a close range, so it's gotta be from the coat hanger.
The doctor or “new loomis” heel or obsessed turn was the stupidest character change in movie history
Jay Claude I audibly went like “huh?” When that happened it was really cringe especially when he put the mask on
Yeah I honestly checked out mentally for awhile after that happened. That was the moment when I realized this movie just wasn't what it should have been. Sucks, really wanted to love this one.
I loved it the guy was trying to mimic Loomis so hard but was evil
That nigga was gay as shit 🤦🏽♂️
I thought it made sense, he’s the one who helped Micheal escape
@@thefitnesslife4988 To be honest:
1. Age wise, strength is the last thing to go. He's never been fast, thus it's still believable enough.
2. He only lost 2 fingers, not the full hand.
3. The rest, is Halloween must.
@@thefitnesslife4988 is rolled down shutters to protect him from the fire.

But those few things didn't take me out the film and I quite enjoyed it
What seemed strange about the boyfriend at the school dance thing, was that they did nothing with him as far as I can see.
@@williamcurry4868 exactly. The boyfriend really had no purpose other than to throw her phone in the pudding so no one could reach her.
Yes! That was it, and I kept waiting for him to make an appearance, but he was a Checovs gun that went no where.
@@williamcurry4868 and same thing with that Doctor, how he was behind all of Michael's stuff. Like, it was an interesting concept but they only focused on it for like 2 minutes and then it was gone
While I didn't find the school dance appealing per se, it didn't bother me though because it didn't seem like they were there much at all.
A very thorough amd honest review. Thank You for not praising this movie as some tour de force that most are claiming it to be. It was enjoyable but had major flaws.
I waz left dumb founded because of wat the new loomis did in the third act

I couldn't take the film seriously after that. I was just scratching my head. When the ending scenes were happening i was just so confused by why and how on earth it got added to the film, i couldn't focus on the film and take it seriously
Cody Leach exactly
It mostly trying to with your head and I was weirded me out but it was satisfieing when his head was stomped
The nod to Halloween:Resurrection was a chruch van that read Resurrection church. Also, Busta Rhymes was briefly mentioned.
The Thorne signal was in the bathroom scene

That last segment you added regarding the negative comments and how you deal with them is one of the reasons why I honestly think that your channel is the best one in this category on RUclips; purely based on how honest you are. Thanks for the videos Cody, your content really makes my day. This is a return viewing by the way, of many. I binged the friday the 13th and elm street series review playlists over the course of this Monday gone 🤣🤣
I also hated how there was a so called “humorous moment” when the babysitter was getting murdered. That ruined the vibe for me
Only just discovered your channel. Love it. Completely agree with this review. Dr Sartain offended my senses.
i liked referring to sartain as a discount dr. wily.
I think you’re an awesome movie reviewer man, and the reason why I say that is because you’re honest and speak how you really feel about these movies.
There was a shot of the van at the gas station that focused on the word "Resurrection" on the side of the van. I like to think that was as little as they wanted to reference that one haha.
That scene at the end when Laurie goes looking for Michael reminds me of the ending of Silence of the lambs
It builds the tension to 11! That being said, if she'd turned on the lights, she would've seen him hiding behind the mannequins
I agree with you on that speech at the end dude
✊✊✊
I second that. Cody's the man. \m/
They knew the dad was already dead at least Laurie did. When she looked out the front door she saw Micheal in the front standing over him
With every modern horror movie we get the stock "our cellphones have been disabled" line. Back in the day it was "the phone line has been cut".
So true
This is why a lot of horror movies and shows are being written in the 70's 80's and 90's. Much easier to break into cars/hot wire them, etc, no security cameras everywhere, no cell phones.
The score was incredible. The moment the granddaughter sees the shape behind the gate her friend is impaled on, that thrilling, electronic, imposing synth beat plays and it gave me the chills. Loved it. Underrated movie.
If this movie removes every sequel, what if Laurie's first husband was Ben tramer because if Michael was captured quick, Ben survived
Cody takes a shot....Halloween 2...and HE SCORES! Sir, you are so intelligent it frightens me. BRILLIANT demasking strategy with that "Rob Zombie's Halloween 2" argument!
10:28 the way you said that literally made me laugh
And the sherriff played Tommy in the original but no one caught that Easter egg
Will Patton played the sheriff. Brian Andrews played Tommy in the original.
Get yo ass away from there
Loomis's smile after he scares them off is hilarious.
@@Xehanort10 youre both wrong lol Omar Dorsey, the black dude with the cowboy hat, plays The Sheriff. Will Patton is a deputy.
The funniest line in the film:
"I'm a doctor. Lock your doors."
after second viewing i was way more turned off by the comedy than i was the first viewing and disliked the dad character even more. with that said the parts i loved, i liked even more.
@Dr. Loomis it's not about being funny it's about being scary
The impalement on the fence reminded me of Halloween Resurrection when the red-haired girl impaled on the on the gate under the house.
Jamie Lee and her grand daughter I liked alot!!
loll wow
You're dumb bud
Well we don't know what McBride wrote of course! But hes a comedy. So I would probably think most of the jokes and bad writing had alot ro do with Danny!! I'm guessing
Most people consider H2o below par though most of the Halloween sequels all split people. The problem isnt the humor its how its done the humor in H 2018 feels like its from another film. The horror is great in that film but the humor is really bad except for some hits here an there like the baby sitter scene. The movie itself is the third best after 1 an 2.
@@Thechickinaaronscar No it didn't...
I just finished watching it. It is badass. I hope there's a sequel in the works.
It'll be hard to make a sequel that'll be just as good as this movie. I prefer them leave it at this.
@@hotpocketsrock7610 that's impossible, it's gonna make alot of money
They are apparently working on a sequel
I hope they DON'T. I liked this movie, but I'm tired of sequels. They need to just be done. This had a good ending...there was no "Aha! Michael's not really dead" moment at the end, and Laurie Strode is triumphant. THE END. But...I know they wont. There will inevitably be another. While I know it may not financially make the most sense, from an artistic perspective, I wish they would just stop on a good note, a good movie instead of a bad one.
There is one already written, so it's only a matter of time.
My review of Halloween (2018):
Positives
-Liked the kills, especially the Jack-O-Lantern one, one where he snaps the kid’s neck, and Dr Sartin’s kill
-Courtney’s portrayal of Michael Myers is the best in the series, but is still behind Nick Castle
-The score of the this movie is great
-Jamie Lee Curtis’ portrayal of Laurie felt alike Sarah Connor and the fight scene was good
-The scene where Michael goes on his killing spree in Haddonfield was great
Negatives
-Didn’t like the Sartain plot twist and I wish there was better way for Michael to get to Laurie’s house
-Some of comedy in this film felt really unnecessary
-Most of the characters could of been written a little bit better, including Dr Sartain and Ray
-Judy Greer’s performance felt robotic until the third act
Final verdict for Halloween (2018), I give the movie a 7.5/10
I actually thought that the daughter was going to get pulled into and trapped in the basement with Michael....I thought it was going to Happen and I was pumped for it.
Yeah well they should've ruined it cuz the buildup wasn't much better then the ending
Johnny Baboon I would have loved for him to kill all of them. All the characters sucked. Even this Laurie Strode.
Good point. Michael's lost his mojo in his old age. Oh, but hey, feminists have to have their way over "toxic masculinity". Carpenter, you sellout!
agreed I would haave him kill everybody and have him standining on a hill of haddonfield maybe a roof top showing him as the victor
agreed look at the film all the men except myers were portayed as weak and idiots and all the women could do no wrong lauries daughter would never marry a screw up like
TECHNICALLY, "Resurrection" is also nodded to by being on the church van at the mechanic shop. Would that count?
The frustration made me want to shake the film makers and ask "WTF WERE YOU THINKING?"
The complete final act with JLC was pure gold.
I love your reviews.
We have exactly the same views when it comes to the pros and cons with this movie. The changes you would have made sound way better than what ended up in the film. Keep up the good work, your opinions are very similar to mine.
I also felt that the bathroom kill was a callback to H20 when Michael stole the keys from that mother and her child in the public bathroom
It was actually in Halloween H20
@@jacklemm1518 Oh you're totally right. I'm going to edit the comment to reflect that. Good catch!
The van at the gas station that Aaron the podcaster throws the peace sign up to has Ressurection written on the side of it 🤘🏾
Randomly found your video looking for someone else to think like myself. When I say you are literally speaking from my mind.. YOU WENT INTO MY head and said exactly what I thought about the film. Well done.
I love the idea of sacrificing Judy Greer in the ending
The Resurrection church van at the gas station was the Easter egg for Resurrection.
Personally, I gotta give the best ending to H2O because that head chop was mind blowing
The fact you called the Me Too on the ending give this man a trophy
There was a small seen that when the house is burning you dont see micheal in the bacement so i belive he escape somehow
no he magically made himself small like freddy k and went into the small doll house replica wait that house burned down too forget about it
I can listen to this guy talking about whatever movies for hours no matter whether the movies themselves are interesting or not. The way he talks is already fascinating.
You are so freaking on point with this review here. I've been a Halloween fan since 1978. I agree with you on 98% of this. Subbed!
to be fair in an interview carpenter said that he put some nods to previous halloween films as easter eggs, not in those words, but he said he'd referenced them. i get the anger through it, but i was prepared for that and smiled every time i found one.
Awesome! Thank you
I hated when Laurie referred to the Dr as the New Loomis.
It’s aging better than every sequel prior.
@@07foxmulder H20 is the best Halloween movie.
I totally wondered the same thing about the dad!! I couldn't believe no one even wondered where the hell he was or showed any emotion whatsoever to his disappearance? Maybe because like you said he didn't belong one bit.
The way the dad says:
"I got peanut butter on my penis"
sounds exactly like Butters from South Park. This should not be in a Halloween film!
It did kind of make me want to laugh when she said I learned how to shoot a gun at 8
I live in the south it's common for kids to learn how to shoot at a young age
Well said.
Love your channel bro keep up the great work!
Thank you
Yo, I have been watching this whole franchise and watching your movie reviews right after finishing that movie and I have disagreed with like three of your reviews but I still come back and watch the next one after I see that movie to see what you think.
The young black actor was so funny. His character was a true highlight for me.
Subbed I like your viewports. Great job dude.
Thank you
I love watching your video's, an avid horror fan for decades.
