      It didn't bother me. I actually enjoyed the movie alot. Kills is my favorite of the 3 since it has Michael in it the most. But Ends did take risks and for me they worked. The opening of Ends was great I wasn't expecting that to happen. Its cool how at the end of kills when Laurie said the more he kills the more he transcends. We seen that in Ends once Michael killed the cop.

    Another thing that struck me about Laurie’s character that was strange was that in 2018 she was so traumatized and obsessed with Myers when he was (supposedly) locked away securely , BUT later she is content and living a normal life after Myers disappeared 4 years earlier and no trace of him when he could show up anywhere at anytime. I think reactions should’ve been switched to make more sense.

    Maybe it’s just me, but I wish Laurie from 2018 and Laurie from Ends was switched. It makes more sense to me that she’d move on and be writing blogs of Michael after 40 years and only 1 encounter with him. After Kills, then it’s believable that she would try to be a fighter and have this trap house because Michael killed everyone (including her daughter!) and he went missing, so she’s waiting for him to show himself, then kill him. 2018 Laurie should have processed this grief and been okay with it more because it was one night and Michael was locked up. After the second massacre, and he was never found, that’s when she should have been this hunter

    The thing I would’ve changed about this trilogy is the order in which Laurie becomes paranoid/doomsday prepper-esque. It would’ve been better (in my opinion) if in 2018 Laurie had been like she was in ENDS, traumatized but finally ready to move on after 40 years. Finally letting go of the idea of Michael coming back. Then BOOM Michael comes back and obliterates the town, kills Karen, and THEN Laurie becomes more vengeful than ever before, considering Michael killed her own daughter. She would then be the paranoid, prepared Laurie that she was in the 2018 film. Waiting for the day Michael came back so she could get her revenge. Seems like she was less effected by her daughter’s death than the 1978 attack 😂 which makes no sense because Michael did the one thing Laurie always wanted to prevent from happening. She spent Karen’s entire life protecting her to the point that Karen resented her for it. It would’ve been so badass to see vengeful mama bear Laurie going all out against Michael in ENDS!! I also think the Corey idea would’ve worked better in KILLS, but the final film should’ve been focused on Laurie’s wrath. Just my opinions!!!! Haha still a great trilogy, I had fun!

    • @stolbez666legend
      @stolbez666legend 2 года назад

      She's paranoid in 2018 because she thinks Myers was specifically targetting her in 78. She continues to think that in 2018, thus why she's semi-hunting him. In Kills, she is finally brought to the realization that her 'Boogeyman' was never targetting her. Yeah, she was likely effected by her daughter's death, but the death occurred in the spot that Michael was ultimately heading toward. We have four years pass after her death, and a badly injured Myers who never reappears. Doesn't give her much of a reason to be paranoid after that because ultimately, the people of the town are what continues to drive his spirit, not Myers himself. You get to 'Ends', and it's meant to show you through Cory that these monsters aren't born, they are created on the judgments of the townspeople / society. Three years after the child's death, Cory is fine until the mother / his bullies continue to see him as a monster. In reality, he doesn't actually turn until the doctor / nurse. The homeless man was out of fear in self defense and the cop, he was well aware that he wasn't ready to kill intentionally, which is why he lures the cop to the sewer.

      Trauma will do that though. It stunts the growth or like if you ever go to jail and come home it stunts your mature level. So I can see why they wrote them like this. Corey with the kid thing will definitely stunt his level of maturity Bey he wouldn’t be doing normal high school things and Laurie with what happened her while she was In high school did the same. I think the corey storyline would have served better as a middle entry to the trilogy, or as a standalone Halloween movie. Its valid to say its not a great way to end the trilogy. Like imagine, Michael gets out of that house at the end of 2018 and crawls into the sewers, 4 years go by and the Corey storyline kicks in where hes killing people. The town people get hysterical thinking its Michael (skip all the chasing down the wrong guy at the hospital crap). At the end he kills Corey, then Karen, then we get that scene where he massacres a shit ton of towns people. By then you know killing makes him stronger so its "oh shit, now hes like Uber Michael" and the movie stops. THEN Ends happens, and its Alyson and Laurie trying to survive and fight back. It can end with them at the junk yard and somehow tricking michael into falling on the grinder. Though it needs to end with both Laurie and Michael dying imo. Maybe laurie caught a serious wound and because a bunch of people got massacred theres no one to come for help or something. Idk. Its just a better ending if they both go.
    All of that said, I enjoyed it for what it for what it was. As a standalone Id give it a 7 or 8 out of 10. It just doesnt work great as the end point of a trilogy.

    I think one of the big things that bothered me was that I was on board until Corey meets Michael and then all the sudden Corey just becomes an entirely different character without any sort of progression or struggle internally. I feel like I would have liked it more if there was some time to show this transition or even a little bit more explanation of what exactly happened. So Michael transferred his evil or did he? Was Corey always evil did he actually kill the kid on purpose and like it or did he kill the kid on accident but deep down liked it? A little bit more time spent on that would have made a whole lot of difference also it would have been cooler if Michael seeing this kid become evil rejuvenated him fully then Corey all the sudden realizes he's become everything everyone says he is and repents and sacrifices himself to save Allison or Lori from Michael. Lastly I hated the fact that most of the kills are from Cory dressed as Michael and not from Michael himself. It just took away from how awesome some of those kills were because it wasn't Michael in the end.

Now in the sequel lets give them more of what they want, but with a note of cringe to make them a little mad but not so much to make them hate it. Now in the final, lets tell them we are going to give them everything they want, have them hyped to the rafters and then dash their expectations on the ground with Michael as nothing more than a cameo, followed by a timid bleed out, and then finally give them 1 minute of what they have longed for with the metal grinder. They will be so conflicted loving that one minute, but hating everything else. How can they possibly reconcile their emotions as they are going to feel both love and hate at the exact same time....OH BOY THIS WILL BE FUN!!!"

  • @TheJokesterSCR
    @TheJokesterSCR 2 года назад +52

    Originally, DGG pitched the idea of doing 2 Halloween movies and filming them back to back. I believe the studio wanted him to just make the first one and see if it was a success or not. So, there was always the idea to have more than 1 movie. Had they cut some of the fluff from both 2018 and Kills, then delivered that final confrontation but better than we got in Ends, it could have made for a VERY solid 2 movie run and be done with it. I watched it a second time today, and my god... I hate it even worse. Just knowing that I'll never get the ending to the storyline that everything was building to will never sit right with me. I also feel like there are so many plot conveniences that take place with no real build-up and it feels rushed... but somehow very boring at the same time. How something can feel rushed and still boring is beyond me, but they pulled it off with this one. And as I said in a previous comment, they did Michael Myers SO dirty in this movie. It makes Resurrection feel very respectful in comparison. I will never understand how they dropped the ball SO hard here.

    Listen, I would buy Laurie moving on from the beginning of the movie, I really would and I wish I could… But this lady spent 40 years prepping for an event everyone told her she was crazy for prepping for, so much so that it cost her her relationship with her own daughter. Then, that very thing she feared would happen came to pass and all hell broke loose, AND her daughter died right after they finally made amends. I’m just having a lot of trouble believing after all of that Laurie would just move on in 4 years.

    My first impression of the Cory storyline when watching the film was after having that eye contact moment with Michael Myers in the sewer, I thought the direction they were going was finding a way to pass the torch from Michael to Cory. And the big twist at the end would've been all the kills that we had seen with Michael was really Cory (but not knowing that it was Cory) wearing the mask when Laurie unmasked him in the final confrontation.

    I enjoyed it warts and all. I really felt the social commentary was much better in this than in Kills. The whole nature of evil debate and how evil can infect and consume you really harkens back to the original movie. I loved the parallels between Corey and Michael, how evil consumed them and how they in turn infected Haddonfield. Michael and Corey may be dead but evil, the real antagonist of the series, lives on.
    Perhaps this may have served better tonally as the second movie and go out with a blast with a movie like Kills tonally. The thing I did have some trouble with was how Michael went from tearing people up like roid munching demon in Kills and then is fragile and weak in this one. I would've preferred a more consistent portrayal of Michael. If you're going to keep his character grounded in reality, human and frail, they could've and should've shown that in the first two rather than having him appear almost superhuman.
    I suppose a lot can happen in 4 years but I don't know the suspension of disbelief just wasn't kicking in as hard as one might expect. Still, an all round enjoyable flick. Kills was easily the worst IMO but I will say this, of the 3 main continuities that branch off Halloween, this one is probably the best of the bunch IMO. and I love all the movies (EXCEPT Resurrection, ain't no way I'm ever gonna ever find any love for that!)

But the writers forget it seems that they have retconned all of those other movies so Michael only killed his sister in 1963 then escaped in 1978 and killed 4 people in a killing spree. He gets locked up in a sanitarium for 40 years and escapes when a bus tips over and continues his killing spree. It is not like they actively or heard about several failed attempts to kill him. The pushback date for production and release, along with the backlash for Kills, made them want to go in a different direction, so...they sincerely wanted to make something that would not be for everyone, but would surely have a cult following (and they gave us SEVERAL clues to that, which are pointed out in this video).

    I think the whole bit in the sewer definitely points to Michael “regenerating” a bit from killing the cop. I think that’s what Corey meant when he said show me how to do it. If you notice when Corey kills the doctor he takes the bandage off of his hand which seems to be healing somewhat.

    I'm one of the few who enjoyed this film. I'm a Halloween fanatic, the original is my favorite film of all time, but I've been bored of the Laurie/Michael story for a while. I think it ended perfectly in 2018 and was unnecessarily dragged out to sell tickets. The 2018 film was originally intended to set up Allyson as the new main character, but they realized the impact JLC had on the box office and derailed all of that. With Ends, I was much more interested in Corey's character and his whole arc. It was fascinating to me, and I was eager to see where they were going to take it. But they cut it short to force a confrontation between Laurie and Michael in the final few minutes, to justify the title, in much the same way an exorcism was tacked onto the end of The Exorcist III so they could call it 'The Exorcist.' I honestly wish Laurie and Michael weren't in this film at all, and that it was solely Corey's and Allyson's film. It would've been rad af if they'd set up a new set of Halloween films, with Corey acting as the new "Michael" and Allyson the new "Laurie."

I saw it initially on Peacock and hated it, but something compelled me to go back later that day and watch it again. Now I felt it had some very good ideas worth exploring, so I went to the local cinema and watched it a third time. And now, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!
    It has it's issues, but just like Rob Zombie's effort, when seen as it's own independent thing it's great.

    I’ve been saying the same thing on the treatment of Michael. Weak Michael makes no sense if killing does rejuvenate him given Kills ends with him single handedly kills the entire mob…oh and can now teleport? The hobo also says (as do all the missing notices placed throughout the town) that he’s still killing over the last four years, just clearly at a slower rate.

      All the deaths in Halloween Kills healed him from all the injuries he got in 2018. Shot in the face, stabbed a crap ton of times, thrown down a flight of stairs and trapped in a burning building. In Ends there're a couple of moments where they show missing persons posters, implying that Michael has been hiding out killing people over the 4 years he was missing. Then he possesses or connects with Corey and gets stronger with every murder Corey commits. Maybe when Corey killed himself it wounded Michael too, who knows.

    Unpopular opinion but I actually kind of like that Michael struggles in this movie. He's supposed to be a little bit more grounded in this trilogy and he IS a 65 year old man who has sustained some serious trauma and has spent the last four years chilling in a sewer. But at the same time I think it highlights just how much damn perseverance Michael has. He may be on his last legs but damnit he's still a cold blooded killer who will utterly fucked you up even if it's gonna take his breath and make him hurt like hell. I think it's very in character for him to push through that pain to fuck shit up.

      I respect your opinion but I think based on what we have seen from 60yr old Michael in the last two films it doesn't make sense. I mean he got shot multiple times and got right up and took out a whole mob. Now he makes some wimpy kid look like Kurt Angle as he wrestles Michael to the ground and takes his mask.
      I think it would have been cool to see Michael a little bit weaker than in the past, but they turned him into a straight up bitch. Big difference between Michael being beaten down and emasculated by a kid who gets bullied by the high school marching band.

      Yes I thought it would end with Michael never actually being in the sewers but just his hallucinations of his battle with himself and the darkness taking over. They should of had him fake his own stabbing and after Michael really shows up and Laurie ends him a missing cory allowing a younger boogeyman for future Halloween films since in this timeline Michael would eventually die of old age and than have the new boogeyman obsessed and focused on Allyson going forward.

  • @tomtudorweaver1078

    It's interesting looking at just how many turns they made when making this trilogy. If the rumors about the 2018 film's original ending are true, or at least the ones I heard at the time, that I would've really liked as an ending to Michael Myers.
    The main detail I remember hearing, although it seems to be the one lacking the most evidence for validity, heck maybe it's been debunked, was that after the big third act knife fight Michael wanders into the woods, slumps down against a tree as the sun comes up marking the end of Halloween night, and they hold on that shot as all we hear is him breathing until he stops, now dead. I would've really liked that as the idea of his breathing stopping, to me at least, would be the definitive illustration of his death, more so in a way than any clear physical injury through how it mirrors the ending of the original. I also like the idea that no-one sees him die or truly knows that he's dead, so even though he really is gone, Haddonfield would probably be haunted by the idea of him returning for years. All of that could be completely wrong, but that's my head canon for this new trilogy.
    The original Halloween is my favorite horror film of all time, but with that I really don't care for the idea of there being any sequels to it given how that original film ends, so I'm indifferent to most of them and fine with whatever they try to do. The original H2 is the only one I'd say I actively watch besides the original. 2018 to me was a decent enough crowd pleaser that made Michael scary again, but I wish it leaned less into the more standard slasher tropes and focused more on Laurie's psychosis and her relationship with her family, Kills I just skipped.
    All that said, this film somewhat interests me for the premise. I like the concept that this unlucky guy basically becomes the vessel for the town's insecurities and trauma, but as you said, they should've leaned into the idea that he's mentally unstable and in need of help rather than a slasher villain, like maybe after a lot of buildup he kills one person and is immediately riddled with guilt and spirals, maybe tries to kill himself and Allison stops him. To be honest I'd like a whole film explicitly about that whilst seeing the Strodes deal with their trauma, a film basically about a post-Michael Myers world, then by the end Michael is found, but he's a shell of what he once was, practically already dead and there isn't a grand final battle, it's more like he's put out of his misery. That'd probably be a film most people wouldn't like, it sure as hell wouldn't be trying to be a crowd-pleasing slasher, but I like that premise of a more 'realistic' ending, with the 2018 film being the true final fight between Laurie and Michael.
