In this video I show you step by step how to create a colourful and vibrant book cover for a KDP Coloring book to self publish on Amazon. We go through how to create and download the template to finding the background and foreground images for the cover and how to add those finishing touches to really make the cover stand out. The book cover is one of the most important components for a successful, great selling KDP no content or low content book. It is the first thing that catches the customers attention and so making the right impression is vital. The cover created in this video is designed for a coloring book where, traditionally, the covers are very bright and often stunning.

I am not knowledgeable in Affinity or those like it so thought I would give it a whirl. 5 Hours later, just as I was getting it, I noticed that the word Title in my phrase was spelled TITTLE!!! I am creating a Father's Day Coloring book. Such frustration, but I just took out the word and will add it in Canva (I think... LOL). At any rate, I learned a new skill for which I am very grateful. Thanks again!

Hi Paul. I am new to this so thanks for your forebearance. I have a question about interiors. I made a coloring book for Easter and did the downloads to KDP. I ordered one of the books and saw that the coloring images are on the left, while the blank pages are on the right. I am not sure how to change this or fix it, but I am sure you do!! I sure do appreciate your videos and your expertise. Thanks, Ellen
You need to change the interior so that the coloring pages are on the odd number pages and the blank page on the even number pages.
I have Inkscape it is not set up the same way. Do you have a video for that?
I love your videos and they are VERY helpful. I noticed some videos popping up recently talking about a making and putting in a copyright page. Is it needed and is there a certain way that it has to be formatted?
It’s not a requirement and any original art you create is automatically copyrighted anyway.

You would have to crop the image.
Hi Paul, recently a new viewer but you’ve helped me massively. I’ve just finished the interior of my first kdp Easter activity book, just of interest do you ever create anything for the back cover or is it best to leave it plain?
I don't usually but it's a good place to put some images of the interior of your book on as many publishers do, especially with activity books and puzzle books.
Was wondering how to 'paint' color into affinity design, your reverse-stroke color-over-white-stroke to turn it fillable is great! We've been exporting designs into Paint3D and then coloring them in by "digital coloring" (paint tool) for screenshots & ads. This takes it into the vector format beautifully. Take this Like & Subscribe for that alone -- and then you show fantastic export adjustments as well. Awesome tutorial!

Yuou can use them but not edit them like I have done in this video.
Paul. I need your help. I ty to put the background on affinity. But got stuck at your video 9.57. Same as you, my background image is bigger than the layout box. But when I move the background image, the excess also shown outside the layout box. How can I solve that so that everything I want is inside the layout box, and things I don't want do not shown?
You just hold down the left click of the mouse on the corner of the box and shrink it down.

I recently had a gratitude book blocked citing cover copyright or other.
I checked the image from canva was free for commercial use.
However since uploading further books with the same title but no image these have also been blocked as soon as they were uploaded.
Should I presume my account is suspended?

Paul, if I use book bolt to create my coloring books and I have a picture on one page and the descriptions on the second page to play my Amazon’s rules, is my book going to be say 175 pages this way or do I need to make the cover for 75 pages?
I'm not exactly sure what you;re asking but one page is one side of paper, so 1 sheet of paper is 2 pages.

I have a question. I don't have Windows or anything Apple. I have my Chrome Laptop. I purchased Gravit Pro but it doesn't work on my laptop. Do you know of any software that will work on my laptop?
I thought Gravit Designer was web based and so should work. You can google 'web based vector editing'. The options you get are basic but may work.

Maybe it is hidden below the other layer and you need to drag it to the top in the layers panel.

Hi Paul! Thanks for this informative video! I was just wondering, I publish my book a month ago and when I had a look that month when I first published it, it was at the very first page of amazon. However, when I searched for it the month after, it was on the 4th page. Is this because nobody bought it? But I’ve seen other kdp authors who has published their book before me and hasn’t got any sales make it to the first page without any ads whatsoever. Hope you can give me some insights. Thank you!
When a book is first published, Amazon will often put it on the first page for a short spell to test it out. If it doesn’t get any customers clicking on it or doesn’t get any sales then it will usually then drop off the rankings. But that’s not necessarily the end of it. Months later it may get found and a sale made and then the book can start climbing up the rankings.

Affinity designer is that a one time payment?
Yes.
Can you recommend a computer or laptop , that can handle all the software you use .
It would also depend on your budget. I don’t know much about Windows computers but I do all my work on a MacBook pro. The sort of work to create books is not very resource intensive so a windows laptop with 8gb of RAM would probably work well.

The content of the book is considered to be under 18 years old. Are motivational swear words under 18s content?
I suspect it depends on the actual words but I wouldn't know which ones would be classified as under or over 18 or not.

Check the class of goods for the trademark. However, this is an example of a technique to create a cover. I’m not actually publishing this cover or encouraging you to create an exact copy.

You said cover image/art should be within pink border area but I saw you covered the pink area with colorful background art while creating this. The background texture image/art crosses the pink border?!
If you don't mind please correct/teach me maybe I am wrong.
That’s the background! Any main image or text that you don’t want trimmed off should be within the pink border.

I thought your videos were absolutely wonderful - great instructions, until I tried to actually do it. It's been 5 or more hours. It downloads as a zipped file, yours seem to automatically download in the right format. That took hours. I can't 'drag' my kdp cover into Affinity. I can't get it the right size on Canva. After a long time, somehow (I couldn't repeat the process) I got a kdp cover template into affinity, but it didn't go into the right section with the white box that is the right size, and I can't figure out how to either move it to the white box that's the right size, or resize it.
I'm sorry, it's difficult to picture what you're doing from what you've written. On the cover template you download it will tell you the dimensions. So, you create a new document in Affinity with those dimensions and then drag the template into the new document you've created.
