I like to think of fear as getting a shot. the really bad part is the anticipation but a jump scare is just the pinching sensation from the needle piercing the skin.
I never forget to save games... I'm a Saveophile. I abuse save systems, I save every 5 minutes, and If i can't save i get paranoid about progression loss.
Same, after losing all my progress in Pokemon Red as a kid cause I forgot to save I just save constantly because jfc I don't want to go through that again.
13:03 [Spoiler warning if you haven't played this & want to] This single scene right here... That isn't just powerful. It's been written by someone who's experienced what it's like to be on both sides of depression. To see someone going through that kind of pain, as well as suffering it themself at some point. They're not just conveying experience on the matter, but what you wish you could do to help that person. The fact that you see David controlled on some level by the crooked man gives his friend the power to fight something that ordinarily, isn't there in any form of solid matter. I would bet anything there are countless people who wish that would've been the case for someone they've lost to depression & suicide; To be able to spot a physical cause that you can pry away from that person, or even attack out of anger at all the things it's done to someone they care about. The first time I saw this, it was like someone slowly but steadily applying more & more pressure to the chest. until I just couldn't brush it off. The things that David says... At that point alone in my own life, I'd lost count of the amount of times those kinds of thoughts 'ran the show', as it were. The way you see him with tears down his face, slouching with a gun to his head is something disturbingly well observed. You can tell he doesn't want to do it, but feels there's no other choice because he's broken, therefore useless. It honestly brought me to tears pretty quickly, because the whole scene was so relatable. The thing about suicide is when you feel that way, it never feels like an option or a choice. Only an obligation, whether you stave it off or not. It's always a completely different story for everyone, because nobody's problems can simply be categorised. Different reasons, different route, same destination. Imagine you're driving a car, and suddenly, the steering wheel doesn't do anything. Neither do the brakes, accelerator, or anything for that matter. But instead of crashing, the car goes it's own way, locks all the doors to create a barrier between you & the outside world, then decides to take you to every last place you never wanted to visit again. And it never. Fucking. Stops. That's just one of so many ways you can interpret something like depression. After going through a recent episode of my own that in all honesty, still hasn't really passed yet, seeing this knocks a few things loose. You might've guessed from all this text. Though I know the case is far from this simple/explainable, it made me think of the same thing when I first saw it; "Get off me". God I wish it were that simple. I really do. Massive kudos to the creator of this game, thanks to NitroRad for reviewing it with his own style & insight, and thank you to whoever finds this an interesting read.
While that's true, it's pretty much the only hint that you need to apply binary code to solve it - and if you don't make teh connection of "sculpture of thin and round loops of wire" to "representation of 1's and 0's in binary code" there's really no backup to help you work it out. ... still easier than finding that damn blacksmith though.
The binary code reads 2515. The first line only says 10, so you'd read that as 0010 which is 2, The second line says 101 so that would be 0101 which is 5 The third line is just 1111 so that would be 15 Put together thats 2515 or at least thats how I looked at it
I personally think Amnesia was a great Psycnological Horror. It had its flaws, but I do think it's better than most of the newest horror games out there. It's not solely relying on jumpscares, it also had a great atmosphere, both audio and visually. It still scares the shit out of me here and there, even after finishing it 3 times with different friends. ;)
+SpyxedDemon I liked Amnesia and while yes the jump scares were lame it atmosphere and feeling still make me feel scared at the end. I enjoy playing it over and over!
Both are good, but honestly, hiding behind dead pigs from an awful monster, or running from a creature with a blade jammed into it's hand, whilst you desperately close doors, trying to delay it in any possible way really beats sitting in a locker whilst some fat guy sits there, with next to no chance of being found by said fatty.
Amnesia and Outlast are great Outlast has more jumpscares than Amnesia and atleast they are scary then like .flow amnesia doesnt need jumpscares so it doesnt use it outlast doesnt have many only like 2 give a reason why they lame
i like jump scares, but the thing is, its how a jump scare is used has to be used to add TO the effect of horror, not make it like that. theres a difference to say, imagine dead space having a creepy monster jump out of a vent vs a split image of a screamer. if jumpscares are worked in tandem to add to the horror vs just there to pop out for a split second and show you a jpg is bad
I think jumpscares should serve as a quick animation and a sudden change of a perspective so it'll feel like the monster/killer is closer to you. The problem is that horror creators forget that the sound should be heard first then the monster would be in the screen.
I think that jumpscares should begin a scene not just: BOO IM A JUMPSCARE. If it's like BOO JUMPSCARE now im following it, then it makes the jumpscare start a tense chase scene that helps the fear
Among the better jumpscares I can think of are the red, blue, and black painting from Blank Dream’s Realm of Beauty (to give dread when you think you’re safe and done... twice, even though yeah you’re perfectly safe, and a lot of the game’s jumpscares feel like that which I’m fine with), and Witch’s House in the beginning where a vase breaks before an enemy shows up (mostly done as a tease to lull the player into a false sense of security)
I kind of disagree with your opinion on the save feature. Save points are all well and good, but only if you don't have to go back ten rooms and twenty monsters ago to reach one, which is often the case. I like being able to save whenever, and if I lose a lot of progress, it's because I made a poor judgement call, not because of game development. I also like the feature where you can't save in the middle of a fight in games like this, because you might just trap yourself into an eternal death situation. There's also been a lot of times I found out later that I needed an item or something for that fight that I could've gotten if I hadn't saved my progress in that room. Just my opinion, though.
Well, i don't mind save points unless they're really scarce Sometimes the game uses them as a cue to tell you to save such as before a boss fight or a deadly encounter I guess it would've been better to get both tho, a save system that allows you to save anywhere and a hint to help you before a trap, like the bloody hands in The Witch's house
"𝒥𝓊𝓂𝓅𝓈𝒸𝒶𝓇𝑒𝓈 𝒶𝓇𝑒 𝒷𝓊𝓁𝓁𝓈𝒽𝒾𝓉" - 𝑅𝒶𝒹 𝒩𝒾𝓉𝓇𝑜, (𝟤𝟢𝟣𝟩) By the way, I like that you are always dressed out as protagonists (or some of the game characters), that's cool :D
I like that this review was a bit more critical than the others. One thing though is that though I agree a lot of the puzzles had huge flaws, I actually thought the binary one was fair in that 1) seeing a string of 1's and 0's always relates to binary and 2) there was a chart in one of the shelves that translated the numbers to decimal.
Cool review! I feel like jump scares have their time and place. FNaF is probably not a good example of "bad" jumpscares. I mean, it's "Jump Scares, the Game". You know going in you're going to get it if you don't play smart, and it then becomes about managing your stress and avoiding it. It's more of a slap on the wrist than any attempt at horror. Which is probably the best application of em I think.
The openness FNaF has with jumpscares is the only reason it works. It's something you know will happen if you mess up, you don't want it to happen, so the ACTUAL fear comes from the tension of trying not to screw up. It's like the entire concept of horror made a full loop through that "cheap zone" and came right back around to being scary. I'd liken it to the sort of fear you might feel when disarming a bomb.
The jumpscares in games aren't scary they're surprising it's usually the anticipation of it that scares people, but in the case of something like Dead Space, which has jumpscares, well, imagine I'd a necromorph just popped up out of a vent in front of you, it was unexpected and the thing that showed up was scary and the fact that you didn't expect it at the time it happened surprised you (However, I don't know you, so you might not be as scared of those things as I am.)
I absolutely love your RPGmaker reviews. Not just because it's rare to find someone who'll talk about these games in-depth, or because we have similar tastes (speaking as a huge Yume Nikki fan), but you have great reasoning and explanations--I feel like if any of my friends are interested in the games you've reviewed I'll have to link them to your videos, since you do a better job explaining what does and doesn't work than I could. A definite 'hidden gem' on youtube. Anyway, I definitely agree about this one--I'm always conflicted about recommending it, since to me the gameplay and horror are so cheesy and middle-of-the-road, but the story is just so shockingly excellent. I found myself relating to David much more than I expected to.
That jumpscare tutorial was brilliant. I was terrified from the anticipation to the point of turning down my volume lower and lower and lower and then.....it didn’t happen. It shows that for a jumpscare to be effective, it has to have buildup, not be used like some pop-up advertisement
Your point about manual save system is... unusual but interesting. As a PC gamer (where manual saves used to be "the usual") I actually think the other way : fixed save points kinda kill suspense and removes something from gameplay. If you manage savegames yourself, YOU are the only one to blame when you have to rollback half an hour gameplay because you died. YOU handle saves when YOU feel like it's gonna be useful. And it allows player to quit the game whenever they want. There's nothing more frustrating than a badly designed savepoint system... And, FNAF and your little 6:20 trick ARE excellent examples of how jumpscares can actually be used effectivly. They're mostly cancer, yeah, but... f*ck, I actually waited all video long for the jumpsare you teased ! That's the point. Good jumpscares are apotheotic ends to a long, creepy moment waiting for them to come at last. Thanks for the video ! (And, Please excuse my english :))
Uh, the game has a book with binary translation in it, so you DIDN'T have to know binary, you just needed to pay attention to clues... you know, like a PUZZLE.
9:00 They're actually quite easy ^^ For the first one, just trap him behind a couch, then hit him ^^ This way he can't hit you, but you can hit him ^^ For the second fight, just trap him in between one of the tables ^^ Make sure he's at the top and you're at the bottom. Again, he won't be able to hit you, but you can hit him ^^ Took me a lot of trial and error though to figure that out though.. So the battles indeed are frustrating...
I think you were too hard on the game, though I definitely agree with what your final verdict on it Jumpscares are indeed dreadfully cheap, its like swearing in comedy: a cheap and effortless way to get what the audience wants. That said they can be done well so I would not condemn them completely. When I heard you say "horror that lingers" I remembered this video ruclips.net/video/Gb2qKP5YDFU/видео.html I highly recommend watching it if you haven't already
Dude, I just found you and am LOVING your videos. Also, even though it's a departure from your norm, have you considered doing a video about Katawa Shoujo? I saw you using a clip from it at 13:14. Just the development story alone is incredible, after all. And the fact that the studio is working on a new game, too.
4LS? If that's the case, I don't think it's another KS game. Although Music Box Studios is working on a sucessor called Full Hearts, if you'd like to look into that (their tumblr page just released a beta trailer). Also I do agree. I'd love to see an episode about Katawa Shoujo.
YourFavoriteAnime Sucks Yeah, no way in hell it's another KS and over time I've come to respect that they don't want another. Their forums have spawned **so** much fanfiction, no small dev would be wise to trample on it. I'll take a look at Full Hearts, I never thought Music Box would get their 'totally not a sequel' game off the ground. Thanks for the heads-up.
EMMSixteenA4 To tell you the truth, I wasn't really looking forward to it for the fact that KS just hit the mark better than any visual novel I have played, and my expectations are high. I hope it turns out good.
YourFavoriteAnime Sucks Yeah. Either way fans of the original are going to play it. Let's hope they finish it (or get shot down by 4LS in a marvelous fireball of Aura and Delta savagery).
I haven't heard that name in a while! This was one of the first horror games I watched a playthrough of, and this is what introduced me to the world of RPG Maker, where I'm now creating a game of my own. I missed this game
Thank you thank you thank you for criticizing the use of jumpscares. I love horror but I have really bad anxiety so I have to go into it super carefully and jumpscares are one of the things that will 100% ruin a game for me. Thank you also for your reviews of horror games in general - on top of being super entertaining and on-point, they're helping me find new games that I can play without issues!
I only discovered you this year, but I'm already hooked on your videos. It doesn't rely on constant jokes that actually block the review and analysis, but still has a humoristic theme throughout the videos. From what I hope is one of your many Norwegian fans, keep on rockin'~
I love your content! It's very high quality, and I like how you don't just let the jumpscares in the game just appear in the video without a warning. It's also really refreshing seeing more obscure games, then just going with the flow and doing the newest fad. Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you thank you thank you for putting Banjo Kazooie noises instead of the jumpscare noises. I hate jumpscares so much so it's nice to see someone not just leave them in wholesale when they're trying to illustrate a point about how annoying they are.
You don't even need scary images or audio. The audio can just be earrape level volume of anything, and the image can be super freaking cute. It startles you, anything can do that.
The crooked man was honestly a fantastic story to me. While I agree the game had some issues, I still found myself continuing for the sole purpose of 'i want to know more'. This was actually one of the few games to make me *cry* . The only other game to do that was Silent Hill 2, so trust me when I say, that's a feat. Over all, despite the gameplay issues, the story truly makes up for it
"why doesn't it make you save before every encounter with the Crooked Man" Wouldn't that spoil the surprise and break the tension? The terrible boss fights are always at the end, but until then you're supposed to be worried when he's going to pop up.
Any plans on doing a Re:Kinder review? I feel that out of all the Rpg horror games out there that That one gets the least talked about, not to mention it also fits the "Rpg" aspect of the Rpg horror category.
I do hope you review the other games in The Strange Men series! Some of them go and fix a lot of the issues with the first game. I still think it has one of the best stories, but overall the gameplay does get significantly better.
I recently discovered that you made a review for Mogeko Castle, on another RUclipsr's channel. It honestly hurts my heart that you tried to hide it from us. You shouldn't run away from the past, but instead learn from it. You must embrace who you were & learn from the mistakes of the past. I believe in you, so please don't delete your older stuff anymore. I want to see it because I respect you. I want to give my support. If you're going to try & hide content from us, then you can't be trusted. I want to be able to trust you because I love being here.
The Crooked Man was the first RPG I ever played, and is also what got me interested in video games in general. For that reason, it'll always be one of the best games to me. Also... Who tf doesn't save their game after every bit of progress, anyway? Seems like common sense when it comes to horror games. If you lost progress because you got killed, that's on you.
6:27 Funny you expressed dislike towards jumpscares, because I know a game that the developer made to mock Jumpscares, while making a decent yet fun game that loverly reference all sorts of horror games and medias (Mad Father, Silent Hill, Fnaf, Clocktower etc.). It's called Spooky's jumpscare Mansion and despite the name, its a horror-parody that knows how to be decent at scaring you, while giving you nostalgia. Just play it and see how many horror references you can make without looking it up
YES I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU ON JUMP SCARES! I always hated it when people say "oh this is the scarest movie you'll ever see" and of course being a horror movie lover I go watch it only to be annoyed by 2 or 3 hours of nothing but loud noise and jump scares. Jump scares are not scary its a cheap thrill rush to get your heart pumping. Real horror is not understanding the events around you, not knowing anything about the creature and the eerie silence or ambiance sounds that get you on edge knowing something is out there but unable to understand what or hows it thinking. It's even more terrifying when the creature is intelligent and not reckless able to be on par with smart humans rather than dumming down characters for the sake of killing them. Sorry for the rant I'm excited to see someone else understanding that jump scares are not scary :)
I'm guessing it doesn't give you a heads up on the encounters before they happen to not kill the surprise. It's not as scary if you know what's coming...
I liked The Sandman, but the voice acting was so bad in The Boogieman that I couldn't go on. I'm also not a big fan of how they put all the characters in the same game.
As someone with a very faint heart, it's so sad that I can't play more of it without covering the screen with my blanket so I can only see when David is at the edge of the screen
Finally decided to pick this up to play in the spooky month this year, and it was amazing. Ngl, the ending made me cry lol Also, I know this video is old, but I'm wondering if you'll ever review the other games in the Strange Man series too :D
I had no idea about this game existing I was looking for something to use as a Facebook profile picture a few years ago and saw the "I'm a crooked man and that's all I'll ever be" part my name is also David so I used it as a profile picture. Now I know what it's from, thanks nitro.
I feel if we modded games to change the sound files for all jump scares to Banjo and Kazooie's voices, everything would be much better.
(creepy image appears on screen)
GYUH HUH
Someone please do that to at least one game because that Sounds amazing!
i switched the Ao Oni creepy theme for Sonic 2's boss theme. Made it scarier
Da Nargh I feel if some one switched the chase music with the sonic is drowning music it would probably become 100% more anxiety inducing.
And when the Oni catches you, it suddenly ends like it does in the actual game when you drown.
God
I swear to God, you're underrated as all hell. I can't stop binge watching these videos late at night.
earthman
Mind.

Yeah same here!
I just got done watching every one of his videos. And rewatched quite a few. His stuff is great.
This comment aged well
I like to think of fear as getting a shot. the really bad part is the anticipation but a jump scare is just the pinching sensation from the needle piercing the skin.
@Charmiskit The image of someone just jamming a needle in my skin just made me shutter mad hard

Damn dude, I feel ya dawg
NitroRad,you really didn't need to know binary code. The room where David was unlocking a box code has a binary code interpretation on the shelves.
+J.A. Lalanto OK I knew that was in Markiplier's Playthrough
***** Saw it on Mark's playthrough, but it was on vgperson's website that there's a binary code interpretation in there.
Yeah hopefully Nitro Rad see this
While that's true, it's pretty much the only hint that you need to apply binary code to solve it - and if you don't make teh connection of "sculpture of thin and round loops of wire" to "representation of 1's and 0's in binary code" there's really no backup to help you work it out.
... still easier than finding that damn blacksmith though.
The fact that there's a 5 in the binary bothers me far more than it should.
damn you noticed too?
Oh my god...
There is also a 4.
The binary code reads 2515.
The first line only says 10, so you'd read that as 0010 which is 2,
The second line says 101 so that would be 0101 which is 5

Put together thats 2515 or at least thats how I looked at it
Waiter there's a 5 in my binary.

The jumpscares.... This apparently is 90% why people enjoyed Outlast more than Amnesia.

Exactly. jumpscares are a cliche, and as a cliche must be subverted rather than avoided
I kind of disagree with your opinion on the save feature. For the binary puzzle, the student who made the model has a binary translation book in his room, so it's not that obscure.
The Crooked man is actually part of a series too! The stories in all of them are connected and really nice
I like that this review was a bit more critical than the others. Well, FNaF 3 sorta threw that out the window momentarily w/ the Phantomitronics...
So, Tha's how
I think fnaf
At least the first game
Builds up fear, by the ANTICIPATION of a Jumpscare.

Anyway, I definitely agree about this one--I'm always conflicted about recommending it, since to me the gameplay and horror are so cheesy and middle-of-the-road, but the story is just so shockingly excellent. I found myself relating to David much more than I expected to.
Could you please review one of the following?
1) Haunting Ground
2) Until Dawn
3) PT. (I really love your SH series)
4) The Rule of Rose
LeadingBlind he should also review D and Enemy Zero
2 out of 4 ain't bad.
That jumpscare tutorial was brilliant. I was terrified from the anticipation to the point of turning down my volume lower and lower and lower and then.....it didn’t happen.
It shows that for a jumpscare to be effective, it has to have buildup, not be used like some pop-up advertisement
You're easily on my top 5 underrated youtubers, can't you, smashmastershow and dex the swede make some kind of network with some other people?
+Gamedragon bro oops
lol
H m m
Pedro Belle I mean... why search for something when it's already in-game?
@@eclipse9727 where can i find it thou?
I just wish jump scares didn't have to damage hearing. It's my reason as to why I will always hate any game with them.
I realized why hate most horror movies and games. I fear being jumpscared than actually being scared of whatever the character is being scared of.
I can't tolerate jumpscares.
You do not know how happy I am that you didn't include a jump scare during the edit part
9:00 They're actually quite easy ^^ For the first one, just trap him behind a couch, then hit him ^^ This way he can't hit you, but you can hit him ^^ For the second fight, just trap him in between one of the tables ^^ Make sure he's at the top and you're at the bottom. Again, he won't be able to hit you, but you can hit him ^^
Took me a lot of trial and error though to figure that out though.. So the battles indeed are frustrating...
^^
^^
^^
That’s not having fun playing a game, that is simply exploiting it. Nitro Rad is doing a review, therefore, he must play the game as intended.
^^
When you were editing that jump scare, I thought you were gonna put that somewhere in the video. I was really surprised it didn't show up somewhere.
+Joshua Day I would never put a jump scare in a video.
NitroRad Gotta give you props for that.
When I tried, Akinator guessed Kyu Kyu-kun though
Wait is kyu kyu kun the clown vomit looking monster?
Yeah he's the rainbow vomit thing compulsively rubbing the stairs
Ruby-Lou I just went to Akinator and I got Madotsuki
hes a penis
Froufrou Deluxe you must feel so good about yourself
I think you were too hard on the game, though I definitely agree with what your final verdict on it
Jumpscares are indeed dreadfully cheap, its like swearing in comedy: a cheap and effortless way to get what the audience wants. That said they can be done well so I would not condemn them completely.
When I heard you say "horror that lingers" I remembered this video
ruclips.net/video/Gb2qKP5YDFU/видео.html
I highly recommend watching it if you haven't already
I greatly appreciate you replacing the jumpscare audio with goofy sounds lmao, and also your criticism of jumpscares is super well said 🙏🙏🙏
Crooked Man is no match for the Big Bad Wolf.
I watched Markiplier Play this and I'll have to check but I believe the game does give you the Answer to the Binary Puzzle
Really great explanation about why jumpscares aren't actually scary! I've never been able to explain it before, but you nailed it.
I haven't heard that name in a while! This was one of the first horror games I watched a playthrough of, and this is what introduced me to the world of RPG Maker, where I'm now creating a game of my own. I missed this game
Ooooo gl!
T h i s .
There are ways that jumpscares can be properly used, but they're pretty rare.
I only like jumpscares when I see people react to them.
I only discovered you this year, but I'm already hooked on your videos. It doesn't rely on constant jokes that actually block the review and analysis, but still has a humoristic theme throughout the videos. From what I hope is one of your many Norwegian fans, keep on rockin'~
thank you soooooo much for not making the crooked man picture the thumbnail of this video... i have been avoiding it for years
I love your content! It's very high quality, and I like how you don't just let the jumpscares in the game just appear in the video without a warning. It's also really refreshing seeing more obscure games, then just going with the flow and doing the newest fad. Keep up the amazing work!
*****GASP***** You play FR!
Hello fellow dragon dresser upper!
Hah, i do! If you'd like to check out my clan, my User is Charingo (#85020)!
I love meeting people who play the games that i do on other sites
Magma Admin Courtney Mine is #116806, I'm Furrama. I too love the bat dragons. Should have a bumper crop of blue/green ones at the end of the month.
I didn't play the crooked man but I did see a play through and it has one of the most touching stories out there. It really got me.
I started watching you quite a while ago, but coming back and marathoning a lot of your vids I think you are easily my favorite youtuber.
That's my favorite piece of classical music you added in there.
Your thoughts on horror vs jumpscares there really resonated with me. It was always how I thought about it.
Over all, despite the gameplay issues, the story truly makes up for it
oh, gee wow where have that sound familiar from before?
Its rare to find a sentence that is simultaniously completely broken, and completely fitting.
Mermaid swamp was awesome!
I wonder how Nitro Rad would feel about a game named “Spooky’s Jumpscare Mansion” if he doesn’t like jumpscares very much
i love your rant on jumpscares, had the same rant awhile back. you are officially my Canadian brother
I think the reason the save feature is disabled during the puzzle/action sequences is to avoid the risk of your save file becoming softlocked.
I played this game back when I was 17 several years ago and goddamn it, it was my #1 favorite from the group of popular indie games back then 😭❤️
aw baby nitro rad
Please, do a video about the other games from the "strange men" series, especially "Boogieman" and "The Hanged man", in which there is David too
"why doesn't it make you save before every encounter with the Crooked Man"
Wouldn't that spoil the surprise and break the tension? The terrible boss fights are always at the end, but until then you're supposed to be worried when he's going to pop up.
I've spent all day binge watching your videos. Holy moly. You're awesome!
These RPG maker game reviews are the highlight of my week :D
Any plans on doing a Re:Kinder review? I feel that out of all the Rpg horror games out there that That one gets the least talked about, not to mention it also fits the "Rpg" aspect of the Rpg horror category.
"Oh gee wow where have that sound familiar from before."
10/10 IGN
Do I get a prize for seeing the 5
10:11
I was waiting for someone to notice that.
Nitro Rad I Saw it
Also SUBSCRIBED!
Yeah, because my favorite thing about the silent hill games were the jumpscares........
I do hope you review the other games in The Strange Men series! Some of them go and fix a lot of the issues with the first game. I still think it has one of the best stories, but overall the gameplay does get significantly better.
How many have told you that you bare a eerily striking resemblance to David?
Because you do. And that's scary.
Sounds like a better mini series than game.
The Crooked Man was the first RPG I ever played, and is also what got me interested in video games in general. For that reason, it'll always be one of the best games to me.
Also... Who tf doesn't save their game after every bit of progress, anyway? Seems like common sense when it comes to horror games. If you lost progress because you got killed, that's on you.
so sorry about my mean comment I have anger issues and did not take time to see that I was being rude by that
It's ok man!
I am still really sorry though, I was pretty dumb
did anyone else turn down the volume when he explained how easy it was to make jumpscares?
I remember watching Cry place this a while back
6:27 Funny you expressed dislike towards jumpscares, because I know a game that the developer made to mock Jumpscares, while making a decent yet fun game that loverly reference all sorts of horror games and medias (Mad Father, Silent Hill, Fnaf, Clocktower etc.).
It's called Spooky's jumpscare Mansion and despite the name, its a horror-parody that knows how to be decent at scaring you, while giving you nostalgia. Just play it and see how many horror references you can make without looking it up
A complaint I have with the video, is that there's a book in that very same room that tells you about the binary code.
I'm jealous of 90% of what you own. that's a nice diamond dogs jacket
"oh gee wow where have that sound familiar from before?" Why does this sound so perfect?
right after your rant about jumpscares i got an ad for a horror movie that was hyper-focused on jumpscares. i hate it here
YES I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU ON JUMP SCARES!
Oooh, so this is where Five Nights at Banjo's idea came from!
And I couldn't agree enough, Jump-scares are bulls***
I'm guessing it doesn't give you a heads up on the encounters before they happen to not kill the surprise. It's not as scary if you know what's coming...
That how u found the game explanation is legendary
"OHGEEWOW WHERE HAVE THAT SOUND FAMILIAR FROM BEFORE?" Is now my favourite weird random humour phrase, right above "Expardon? You shut yer fuggup"
You should review the secuels.
The Sandman
The Boogieman
And The Hangedman.
I love your work
Hanged man is my favourite
I liked The Sandman, but the voice acting was so bad in The Boogieman that I couldn't go on. I'm also not a big fan of how they put all the characters in the same game.
Are these legit?
As someone with a very faint heart, it's so sad that I can't play more of it without covering the screen with my blanket so I can only see when David is at the edge of the screen
Finally decided to pick this up to play in the spooky month this year, and it was amazing. Ngl, the ending made me cry lol
Also, I know this video is old, but I'm wondering if you'll ever review the other games in the Strange Man series too :D
I recently got back into playing the Strange Man series and honestly I still love the story, not as much as the scares didn't hit as much
I had no idea about this game existing I was looking for something to use as a Facebook profile picture a few years ago and saw the "I'm a crooked man and that's all I'll ever be" part my name is also David so I used it as a profile picture. Now I know what it's from, thanks nitro.
Best title for any Silent Hill game
"Shit gets rusty"
ALL DOORS ARE LOCKED
Hmm I’m surprised he never reviewed Mario’s music box
"oh gee wow, where have that sound familiar from before?" that always cracks me up for some reason XD
The Banjo-Kazooie sounds playing over the jumpscares made me laugh way too much.
4:26 I can't stop re watching this bit. The blank open mouth stare!!! Too funny.
The Banjo-Kazooie sound-effects are hilarious.
