Honestly, I think the reason there was no "Press A to Cheryl" jokes because unlike Heavy Rain, they recorded more than 3 takes of the line and the voice acting didn't sound horrible.
They are there, but it's not like it's the only thing people remember about the game. Heavy Rain... did not have as much else to grasp on, even considering Shattered Memory's flaws.
The monsters are keeping you from reaching the doctor's office and facing and accepting the truth. They try to protect "you" from it. It's crazy and makes me want to cry every time I think about it.
I love how you navigate the phone with the D-Pad exactly like Harry does in-game, and then the audio plays out of the wii-mote really quietly which at first I thought was faulty hardware but it actually makes you hold it up to your ear like a phone. it's silly but this was really neat to me.

Silent Hill Shattered Memories is the loneliest game that I have played when I was at my worst and it helped me cope. I will never forget when at the end of the game, the psychologist said something along the lines of... "don't blame yourself, blame your family, blame society, blame god, blame me" and it was about self destruction. The game doesn't have enemies and it is better this way. The world becomes cold and distant.
In all honestly, I would love to see the idea of Cold Heart getting revived and made into a complete game. The idea of the game taking what you fear and forming it into your own personal hell is pretty frightening
I totally agree, and this would be more plausible on modern consoles, considering all the features the game was intended to have. I really hope it gets a revisit one day, as it sounds like it would be an incredible game.
Couple of things you didn't mention. The main enemies in this game (Named "Raw Shocks" and henceforth called Raws for brevity) have their appearance slightly changed based on your Psych Profile, similar to how locations, characters, and endings are affected by it. In fact, the appearance of the Raws can help give you an idea of what ending path you are currently on. - Focusing on women and sexual things will give the Raws noticeable breasts and butts, zipper-like rips/scars on their backs that resemble corsets, large lips as their sole facial feature, and their feet will resemble high heels. - Focusing on alcohol or drugs (moreso drinking) will give the Raws bloated skin, what with look like sores or maybe fungus on them. - Focusing on trivial things and/or being rude and uncaring will result in Raws having very atrophied looks, having large holes in them, bones sticking out, and appearing heavily wounded in general. - Focusing on finding Cheryl and generally being more kind will result in Raws having an unusual appearance. Typically their torsos will be separated into several floating slices and their heads will have a blocky look to them, usually in a cross shape. As an additional note, the name "Raw Shock" is likely in reference to the Rorschach Test. In that way, the Raws could be seen as Silent Hill manifesting inkblots into hostile monsters, and the different appearances of the Raws depending on your actions could refer to how people can look at inkblots and see different things depending on their personality and emotions. Lastly, there is another enemy type, being the returning Larval Stalkers from the original Silent Hill. Just like last time, they're technically harmless, although they'll make the phone emit static akin to the Raws alongside making noises that sound like Raws. This effect is usually hampered by the "I'm not in the frozen otherworld so I know I'm not in danger" issue mentioned in the video, but it might make for a good scare for players that are unaware at least.
There where discussions of something like this from GameFaqs back then if I recall well. It was fun trying to understand this game at a young age. But yeah, the music, it still transcends past my current years of being here. I vividly remember how the songs would feel. Mary Elizabeth McGlynn and Akira Yamaoka. They did well, together with the other people who put their care to the game.
I also read that the raw shock is actually cheryl… its how she doesn’t want harry to find out the truth because in her head harry is alive and she also want harry to think that way. Hence why the raw shock comfort harry when he pass out after it got him.
This game is simply amazing. Did you know that the monsters are not hurting you they just hold you until you lose enough body heat that you collapse? And they don't hurt you, they just pet you after that in a reassuring way that everything is going to be alright? It's sad as fuck knowing the ending. Damn, just thinking about the ending is killing me.
Ur comment saved me. I only got 2 minutes into video and saw this comment, then stopped. I know the twists and endings to the first few games, but have never experienced a silent hill game personally but have always wanted to. So I stopped watching and am in an ebay bidding war for this title :)
I agree, sadly my data got corrupted MINUTES before the ending due to a glitch with the gallery. I had to watch the ending on RUclips but since I was near the end I came to see this video
To be fair to that Psychology Warning at the start of the game I don't think there's a single Silent Hill game that doesn't come with something similar at the start. I used to think it was to warn players but now the more I play SH1 I think it was there to condition them for the game.
its still a bit fun though that SM wasnt the first one to scan what you do, i mean, SH2 was probably the first SH game that would look at what you do through the game and then decide how it will play out, like, the endings to SH2 could be different all about how you play the game, for an example you could get the good ending if you were inspecting the letter from mary often! Or get the bad ending if you checked on Maria too often when she was in the hospital and such! I also love how no one even knew about the game testing you in SH2! That way it wasnt all in your control since you didnt know it were happening!
Warnings like that are usually included for legal reasons. So that if someone complaints about psychological damage or something like that they can say "you were warned".

I just finished this game and went back to watch this video again, and I ended up agreeing with pretty much all of the points you made in this video. Shattered Memories was a huge step in the right direction, and I was deeply invested in the story and the way things turned out. Great review, man.

@@Akechi_The_Phantom_Detective silent hill 1s soundtrack is just disturbing and unsettling really makes you feel disoriented. Silent hill 2 feels more like your lost in a dream world taken over by monsters has such a chilled out vibe but at the same time feels like depression. @@kingi-sick2485 I get that and honestly I do kind of agree that these remakes were pretty bad after having had a chance to replay 3 and play through 2 on the original hardware. While I don't think the games after 4, were great, I did find enjoyment in Origin, Shattered Memories, and Downpour while honestly thinking that Homecoming was pretty bad. Though I honestly think that Homecoming had it's good points (descent to hell is honestly a great Silent Hill level with Scarlet legitimately being one of the freakiest bosses in the franchise) the fact that the game was written by 5 different people shows through a lack of focus or real character development in a way that Silent Hill 2 didn't do vastly better. That said, there is a new game coming out with Ito returning as the art director, so at the very least we'll have cool enemy designs and Pyramid Head will not be showing up (because Ito doesn't reuse his designs). I'll definitely give it a chance if not only for the art direction.
I replayed this game so damn much, and I loved it so damn much and the plot twist is so great! You totally forgot to mention though that when you find out its Cheryl in the chair that one of the things that makes sense is the other world sections, you notice that everytime you are about to find out Harry is actually dead, everything freezes which is Cheryls denial. And you also forgot to mention that the game doesn't only change of how you act during the "sessions" but what makes this game so great is that it also has to do with where you LOOK, looking away, staring him in the eyes or looking at his dick, has an impact, or when you explore silent hill the game changes depending on if you look at a girls tits all the time, or at sexy posters or not looking at them at all. Its such a little detail I love it
I find this game like one of those classic books you must read at different points in your life, like The Little Prince. This adds infinite replayability, because you take it from the shelf every couple of months/years and your life perception has changed
@@AbstractTraitorHero you get the "sex deviant dad" type of story, female characters get sexier and harry is portrayed as a himbo in the final home movie
Or high, considering one friend of mine thought he'd die for real if he didn't kill a monster in MH World while high. Somehow, he did light years better than normal.
there are 3 games that have made me cry like a bitch: -walking dead season 1 -the darkness 2 (I had recently broken up with someone and the game simply got to me) -Silent hill: Shattered Memories I mean damn, when a game can get you to a point where you just want to ball up in a corner and wait for someone to hug you you know they had made a damn good story.
I am so glad you said all this. Shatteted Memories is one of my favorite games. It is an absolute delight. Even if it's not scary at all. So many people judge it without giving it a real chance.
For me, Shattered Memories and Downpour were still inherently good games, even if they were not scary. I still had fun. Anyone getting angry and hung up on the non-scary factor is missing out.
For real I honestly think that Silent Hill isn’t “scary” but unsettling. The otherworlds decay, the music, monsters. I soundly call them scary, but disturbing
This game is a highlight of the franchise and it's one of Wii's few masterpieces that take advantage of the console. The game design is just so good, it actually looks better than SH Homecoming on a PS3, and the puzzle mechanics are very satisfying and varied (since player choices affect map layout)
SPOILER COMMENT BELLOW!!! The ending utterly broke my heart the first time I played it. I got the ending where she tearfully says goodbye to her dad and he turns to ice. It fucked me up so bad. Right up there with Mufasa's death xD I think the story in this game is one of if not the best in the Silent Hill franchise. It's too bad that they dropped the ball on the horror and especially the nightmare world but damn the story almost made me not care about all that. I love that the developers took this chance. In general I appreciate that they tried different things with the franchise even though they were pretty misguided for the most part. I hope there will be more Silent Hill games in the future. I'm willing to wade through a bunch of bad games to get to a game that is as brilliant as Shattered Memories came so close to becoming and in a sense, is.
+Talibanana Don't even get me started dude, braces are the worst and speaking clearly with them on is impossible. I'm honestly lucky I can speak as clearly as I do in these videos with them on.
I've always loved how... unsupernatural this game felt. As much as I love the series, the whole cult-y, 'spooky demon' stuff I could never take seriously.
Silent Hill started out as a psychological horror through the visuals of a nightmarish supernatural horror. With Silent Hill 3 canonizing one of the endings at the expense of the others Silent Hill became a subpar supernatural horror. The town of Silent Hill as a character in and of itself was no longer an unknowable Rorschachian nightmare dreamscape of inexhaustible depths: it had a linear timeline. The evil was now because of the machinations of a cult, it was like if every episode of the Twilight Zone had to have the same twist. Silent Hill Shattered Memories was the biggest attempt to step outside that and overall the fan response indicated they weren't up for it. Silent Hill in the beginning was inspired by the likes of challenging horror like HP Lovecraft, Jacob's Ladder, and Eraserhead and ended up turning into something more like Alone In The Dark because fans demanded that everything after Silent Hill 3 operate under the premise of the ending of Silent Hill 1 that it was a continuation of. It was a downward trajectory by fan demand.
Oh my goodness, it's so rare to meet other people who liked Shattered Memories! Shattered memories is the only SH game I played and finished- and Ive played multiple times with my friend. While staying the night at her place we played on the PS2 and first time She played it coz I was scared, the second time I played it and she was surprised to see how different it all went - the story lines literally split to different directions for us - and the third time we played taking turns after each psychologist segment, coz we wanted to know wether our previous segments carried over. Before anyone asks - more or less, some parts played much like my first play through, some got mixed together
The story is possibly one of the few examples i can think of when a remake manage to be good and unique despite being a remake. But i can understand why people dont like this considering the too simple gameplay and puzzle and the fact that you are too safe in the world that doesnt filled with ice. Gamers most of the time look for gameplay advantage instead of the story so i can understand their complaint. But the good story and choices, mixed with the unique psychological aspect of the game is the thing that truly saved this game and for me personally, i enjoyed it
Yea shattered memories is just as good as the original 4 imo. It may not be scary, but the strong connection between shattered memories silent hill and the protagonist makes it a hit for me.
Can I just add, five years after the fact, this was possibly the best silent hill soundtrack? Hell, even nitrorad seems to agree: Most of his other videos, he falls back on other silent hill soundtracks, but here he consistently uses shattered memories' own tracks.
Your intros are humorously fun and entertaining to watch. You did a nice job capturing and editing the feeling of the Silent Hill "feels". *Another Thumbs Up*
One thing I liked about the game you failed to mention, the monsters change appearance with your psych profile, I like that concept: The monsters are tailored to how you act.
I really enjoyed this game, but not as a Silent Hill game. The exploration aspect is really good, and, as you said, the chase sequences aren't really scary, but this game still has a place in my heart, and i don't know why... Great review tho! You've got a new subscriber!
Honestly this is the one genuinely good modern Silent Hill game, and I enjoy it for what it is. It just sucks that it's not good because it's _Silent Hill..._ It feels like it would have been so easy to add some elements to make it scarier, since they already had a basis for it. I mean just for example, they could have done something like this: For the main game, add some real anticipation to that eerie atmosphere in the main map by actually having enemies there. Give the player something to be afraid of even on a second playthrough. I'm sure the intention with it originally was to trick players into thinking there might be something there, but people would figure that out by the first otherworld segment and it would lose all of its charm. Use those stealth and anticipation building mechanics. Checking through doors to make sure there's not an enemy on the other side, and if there is then waiting for them to walk off first so they can sneak by. Hiding in closets or under benches or something, Outlast style. Then give the player a weapon, say a pistol with very limited ammo, so you're not forced into _always_ using stealth. That way it adds uncertainty and an element of planning, which leads to fear, instead of just that basic boring "run from the enemy or you lose" trope that ends up ruining all of the tension in games like Outlast. If they didn't want to the game to become too action-y, add a Lone Survivor style "avoid killing enemies for the best ending" mechanic to balance it out. It adds replay value, encouraging people to play the game a second time in a more difficult and potentially more unnerving way. The otherworld segments would rely on these mechanics too, and it would become more about sneaking to the exit than blindly running. The building or area you were in is suddenly filled with way more enemies, and you don't know where they are. So now you have to peek through doors, hide, use flares to scare them off if you're unlucky enough to get noticed, or in a worst case scenario get into an all out fight you're most likely going to lose... And now there's actually some consequence if you die, because it's so much more difficult, so you're more inclined to avoid it. You don't just need to restart a short easy running segment, you have to re-do all of that stealth and careful avoidance again. To really make it Silent Hill levels of scary, they probably would have needed some more interesting monster designs than the singular "naked running flesh man" design they used. But even if they'd stuck with that one enemy, these changes would have done a lot to make them scarier regardless. These all would have been relatively small additions or changes, centered around elements that were already partially in the game. I feel like it would have kept the unique feel of the game, but would have actually made it _scary._ If they'd done that, it'd probably be lauded as the first real Silent Hill game to come out since 4.
I'm a big baby when it comes to horror -- in fact I checked out some of your Silent Hill videos out of curiosity in why ths series was so popular, and I was absolutely unable to sleep last night. I had all the lights on some relaxing music playing, and stayed on my couch -- with all the doors close to me closed. So, if there were ever a horror game I would even consider trying, it would be this one. No fighting, all the bad guys are behind me so I can avoid them by not looking, no blood, and a bunch of psycological thrils (which I actually do like). xD
I remember seeing this game on a Nintendo magazine from back in the day, I was 6 or 5 by this point, and the images scared the shit out of me, the monsters were enough to chill me to the bone.
I actually have a friend that I'm sure would have an anxiety reaction from this game. For context, they noticed they were having a panic attack from a couple hours watching Silent Hill 2. Anything to do with warped reality or vivid dream/dreamlike sequences seems to do it for them. So it's unfortunate, but honestly I think the warning **is** warranted. As for myself, I can relate with the story of Shattered Memories. I never got to play it because I've never had a Wii, but I at least watched some let's-players and it always struck me pretty deeply, knowing it came out just 2 years after my own father's death. Fun fact: No amount of therapy can put an end to grief. It just sticks with you, wavering in and out forever. Anyway, I agree with James. Really good game. Solid psychological thriller. Not very scary.
I have this game on PS2. It was the first game in the silent hill series I played to completion without any walk through or help. It’s definitely not my favourite entry in the series (sh2 will always be my favourite) but it will hold a special place in my heart.
I feel this game doesn't get enough credit. Yeah, it's not as good as the original 3 games, but it's an innovative reimagining of what Silent Hill is and deserves more recognition for that alone.
Oooh, I loved this game. Sadly it made me hit my girlfriend at the time pretty hard. Not on purpose. The game makes you shake the wii motes to shake off the enemies and I didn't realize she was that close to me an "bam!" right in the face. During a part that actually startled me too, so it was kind of like I got so scared that I elbowed her face in retaliation. She wasn't aware of that mechanic of it either and I was super engrossed in it. I recently was given a broken wii that I got working and this was the first game I got for it. This and Fatal Frame 4. Anyway, I found this game mind blowing on a lot of levels. The first of which being that I had the wii during it's generation cycle and had no idea that this game came out or that it was as good as it was. I stumbled across it a little after the Wii U had been out and I had pretty much just realized that the Wii U was a whole other system and not just an add on like I thought for the longest time.
I actually really enjoyed this remake/reimagining. It’s cool that we are getting a Silent hill 2 remake and I wonder if you will check it out once it’s out? Even if it sucks?
I love when games make small changes depending on what you do or say. I makes me want to willingly want to replay the game to see what else I can see rather then feeling bored to replay it.
Great review as always (Love the opening bits for these Silent Hill videos), though I have to admit i'm surprised to hear Downpour being considered the worst of the post Team Silent entry since most folks I know say Book of Memories is the worst post-TS Silent Hill game whereas Downpour is more of a love/hate affair. Speaking of, any plans to review that next year or in the future?
Personally, i have to say that the PSP version looks AMAZING for the hardware. And what you said about the performance is true. Sometimes it just straight up loads gor a second icon and all.
With the original sound get theme it was brashish and felt rounded like the warm industrial feel of the otherworld while in this new cold otherworld the item get theme is sharp and cold like pricking your finger on an icicle not only that but personally I associate bells with cold and winter so personally I believe that the item get theme actually really fits the scene and overall game, thank for reading this, and thanks for the chilling vids nitrorad
I've never understood the sheer hatred for Downpour. Yeah, okay, it's not Team Silent great but for my money it's the best one to come out of the West behind Shattered Memories. Interesting side quests, combat returns as does the inventory, and exploration is second to none the best in the franchise - you get to explore almost the entire town at your leisure, and that's where the interesting side quests come in. It's such an interesting departure from the interesting departure we got with Shattered Memories. Downpour is like Homecoming, except not nearly as bad even if it retains some of the worst elements from Homecoming and Shattered Memories. But at least it's not an obvious movie tie in that felt more like a fan made it than an actual dev team.
+Monky The point of the side quests in a horror game shouldn't be to reward you with something tangible (although sometimes the quests in Downpour did reward you with something unique to them), the quest itself should be all you need. The reward is the atmospheric, the experience of seeing something spooky, and discovering this tiny self-contained story you're witnessing unfold.
+Monky It's filler, sure. And maybe the time could have gone to making the game better, but one it was a brand new studio that was untested (outside of one Rush N Attack game in 2011) so it probably wouldn't have mattered much anyways, and two the side quests were still enjoyable. In my opinion, Downpour is good in half because of the side quests that came with the exploration. Without the side quests there's no reason to really explore, which would have been condensed even further to just one or two rooms most likely, and contain ammo or health items. At least with the side quests you had something to do on your way to getting these extra items. There's nothing wrong with being entertained. At the very least think of it like that.
I thought the system was that good. I just got a wii console, just set up my info such as name, address and whatnot. Immediately spent the day playing this game. When she introduced herself I got so terrified I dropped the controller, unplugged the console and TV and refused to pick it up until I google searched the characters name was legit. I was convinced at the time that the game was reading my info so deeply, that it would go as far as to copy my first and last name to be used as a character in the story because of the warning at the beginning. That moment is hands down my favorite moment while playing a game.
2:15 Hey, the channel icon is actually really cool. The Wii had the whole channel thing going on, like TV channels obviously, so it’s like “Ooooh, look at me! I am a scary tv channel with white noise and those scary lines!”
This game is a masterpiece. I first played it years ago on my dads PSP when I was visiting him and thought to give it a try before going to sleep for the night. Let’s just say ,I didn’t get any sleep because I got so drawn into the story that I completed the game all within that night 🤗 I ended up buying it for my PS2 later on and tried finding it recently but I can’t seem to locate it anywhere in my apartment and I know i didn’t get rid of it because I love the game so much!! Hopefully it turns up soon.
I remember playing it in 2014 and for myself the physical involvement through shaking the Wii remote was a big plus. Yes the game isn't scary but it makes a good job when it comes to immersion: the shaking of the remote, the cell phone sounds coming out of the remote and the HUD-less design.
All I remember from this game was the amazing main menu and the plot twist at the end... Shame on me cuz I kinda liked it. I agree completely with Nitro as I watch the video... Too bad I don't have this ... gem(?) anymore...
Recently played this game, this is my first Silent Hill actually and I really enjoyed it, what ruined it for me is how formulaic it was because as you said in the video, outside of the chase sequences there is zero creepyness, and thus you are never scared about your survival posibilities, you just keep solving puzzles until you reach the chase scene and then the psychiatric scene, if only there was some puzzle solving or exploration to do during the chasing scenes this would have been more thrilling.
This is by far my favorite game from the SH franchise. I love 2 for Pyramid Head and 4 for the really "scare the shit out of me" factor. But "shattered memories" gets into your skin with some subtile scares and the feeling of emptyness, nothigness: the more you explore a level, the more you expect something to attack you, and when doens't happen it onyl makes things worse. And, once you get to find the puzzles and do them right, the chase sections made me anxious as fuck (despite the fact that I ended up giving up on the game for two years because of the "cabin in the woods" level where you must find your way out and can get easily lost). But, the thing that got me for real in this game was the soundtrack. "Always in my mind" is my favorite song because of this game. Oh, and playing on the ps2 made things easier than using thw wii remote.
I've been thinking about revisiting this title lately. This is one of the most innovative titles I have seen in the Wii library (the Wii is undeniably this games rightful home). I found the texture resolution and other effects to be way above average for Wii (the snowflakes reflecting the flashlight was a great touch). I in particular found things like signs and other surfaces with writing on them to have amazing clarity for a Wii console. I just loved the flashlight and cellphone mechanics with the Wii remote or "Wiimote" as well. Though I found myself often wishing for the traditional Otherworld style and artwork instead of the icy setting, or a more persistent sense of dread (you always feel safe when not in the Otherworld once you figure out thats where the only danger is), overall this game is awesome. One of the best on the Wii in my opinion.
Just beat the game like a couple of minutes ago and omg. The ending and the realization was crazy- I spend like months skipping the spoiler part of this video and now I can finally watch it.
i found this game scary the first time i played it, i mostly got scared of the phone echos and those ghosts you take pictures of, aswell the atmosphere made me uneasy (especialy in the forest section), also the jumpscare that happens when one of the monsters grabs you when you open a door sometimes always gets me.
I love your input on games. I agree with everything you said man. keep these up!! You're very honest and good at being non biased with these reviews. You got my sub :)

Silent Hill 2 is the lonliest one for me but I do agree that this is a very introspective game.
Dunno how you're doing nowdays, but hope you're good, mate.
@@Guvato I've been going through a tough time, and I appreciate your kind wishes.
So Silent Hill 2.

I did not know that
There where discussions of something like this from GameFaqs back then if I recall well. It was fun trying to understand this game at a young age.
But yeah, the music, it still transcends past my current years of being here.
I vividly remember how the songs would feel.
Mary Elizabeth McGlynn and Akira Yamaoka.
They did well, together with the other people who put their care to the game.
Mother of god
I also read that the raw shock is actually cheryl… its how she doesn’t want harry to find out the truth because in her head harry is alive and she also want harry to think that way. Hence why the raw shock comfort harry when he pass out after it got him.

“Sweetie?”
That made laugh more than I care to admit

This game is simply amazing.
Did you know that the monsters are not hurting you they just hold you until you lose enough body heat that you collapse? And they don't hurt you, they just pet you after that in a reassuring way that everything is going to be alright? It's sad as fuck knowing the ending. Damn, just thinking about the ending is killing me.
Oh.
Oh thats a good twist.
I shouldn't have spoilered it for myself.
I feel bad now.
same for me :(

Ur comment saved me. I only got 2 minutes into video and saw this comment, then stopped. I know the twists and endings to the first few games, but have never experienced a silent hill game personally but have always wanted to. So I stopped watching and am in an ebay bidding war for this title :)
@James Smith - Did you win?
I agree, sadly my data got corrupted MINUTES before the ending due to a glitch with the gallery. I had to watch the ending on RUclips but since I was near the end I came to see this video
This is one of the most underrated SH games ever made. I loved this one.
@@MrMarinus18 Right the viewer discretion that kind of thing. Fortunately you'd think a name being labeled M would be enough to give the impression but recently that doesn't seem to be the case.
@@Akechi_The_Phantom_Detective M-rated kind of implies that for everyone 16+ there is no danger whatsoever.
Also here it's being cautious. After all if among the millions who buy it there is one who manages to get a court case off the ground it can cost so much it destroys all the profits made.
I just finished this game and went back to watch this video again, and I ended up agreeing with pretty much all of the points you made in this video. Shattered Memories was a huge step in the right direction, and I was deeply invested in the story and the way things turned out. Great review, man.
+HoodoHoodlumsRevenge woaH HOODLUM WHY ARE YOU HERE
God damn it Hoodo it's haloween month you should be doing a top 10 list of best horror games you've ever played... please... that'd be amazing. I feel sorry for Shattered Memories because one the one hand it's a really awesome game... on the other hand can you really call it silent hill?
Adam The Gamer I'm not in the position to answer that question, but I would personally call it Silent Hill. Probably because I only seriously got into Silent Hill quite recently :P
***** Hahaha! :) You know for someone who loves Creepypasta I'd say it's the perfect compliment. That said I've got to wonder how many people started the series with Shattered Memories only to be instantly traumatised by Silent Hill 1's soundtrack. I hope you enjoy it buddy.
Silent hill 3 continues alil on what silent hill 2 did But adds another layer ontop that makes it more of a nightmare the visuals and claustrophobia get in there good. Could go on but imma go play some sh2.
this was actually my first silent hill game. wasn't until just today that i actually got to play and finish the original silent hill. they're both great games.
Could be worst, your first one could have been Homecoming or P.T
You meant to say siwent hill
I'm honestly surprised that Konami hasn't released and HD Remaster of Shattered Memories onto the PS4.
Also, Konami
UltimaKnight Yup. I just want to force them into selling the rights of Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid to Kojima, along with a heartfelt apology
Silent hill has a cult following but that cult following isn't that big also that cult following is filled with people that hate every silent hill that isn't the first 3-4 games and will not give anything new a chance
To put it simply it won't sell well
@@kingi-sick2485 I get that and honestly I do kind of agree that these remakes were pretty bad after having had a chance to replay 3 and play through 2 on the original hardware.
Noah Da. Ark Imagine Konami being absorbed by Square Enix...!
Still, Team Silent needs more love...
Its such a little detail I love it
there's also the alcohol, staring at that a lot can also have an effect.
Ihj
I find this game like one of those classic books you must read at different points in your life, like The Little Prince. This adds infinite replayability, because you take it from the shelf every couple of months/years and your life perception has changed
What happens if you stare at his dick?
@@AbstractTraitorHero you get the "sex deviant dad" type of story, female characters get sexier and harry is portrayed as a himbo in the final home movie

For real
I honestly think that Silent Hill isn’t “scary” but unsettling.
I was fuckin' crying at the end of this game. It hit me right in the gut and I was not expecting it...
It made me pretty sad
Fun fact: The "loading hiccup" also occurs in the PSP and PS2 versions.
SPOILER COMMENT BELLOW!!!
The ending utterly broke my heart the first time I played it. I got the ending where she tearfully says goodbye to her dad and he turns to ice. It fucked me up so bad. Right up there with Mufasa's death xD
I think the story in this game is one of if not the best in the Silent Hill franchise.

Be vewwy vewwy quiet...
I don't know if any of this is true except for the inspirations (i'm not a Silent Hill fan) but if it is, man that's "facepalming" as hell...
This was the first SH game that i played. And still is my favorite. Good old memories playing this game on my old PS2 when i was a kid.
15:26 has to be my favorite part. That alone convinced me to play this game
"Excellent puzzles"
Ya man, i remember shaking that can till the key dropped out

The Rawshock gimmick with how they shapeshift depending on your interactions with the game was really cool

The first person shooter concept might have been scrapped for console but it’s likely that it was repurposed into Silent Hill: The Arcade
damn I really want to play this game now. I’ve given up on playing silent hill games physically but maybe this one is worth a shot!
One thing I liked about the game you failed to mention, the monsters change appearance with your psych profile, I like that concept: The monsters are tailored to how you act.
I actually really want to play this game now...
I really enjoyed this game, but not as a Silent Hill game.
The exploration aspect is really good, and, as you said, the chase sequences aren't really scary, but this game still has a place in my heart, and i don't know why...
Great review tho! You've got a new subscriber!
this is pretty much one of my fav silent hill games.
Honestly this is the one genuinely good modern Silent Hill game, and I enjoy it for what it is. It just sucks that it's not good because it's _Silent Hill..._ It feels like it would have been so easy to add some elements to make it scarier, since they already had a basis for it. I mean just for example, they could have done something like this:
For the main game, add some real anticipation to that eerie atmosphere in the main map by actually having enemies there.
The depth of commentary on this channel, even 5 years ago, is so underrated.
As always, well edited, informative, and entertaining. Your videos are awesome NitroRad. Setting the example for the community!
I have this game on PS2. It was the first game in the silent hill series I played to completion without any walk through or help. It’s definitely not my favourite entry in the series (sh2 will always be my favourite) but it will hold a special place in my heart.
One of the most underrated games I've ever played. No one I know ever talks about it or has played it other then the girl I played it with.
Oh, man. I'd forgotten about that plot twist. I got major chills when you reminded me of this.
I feel this game doesn't get enough credit. Yeah, it's not as good as the original 3 games, but it's an innovative reimagining of what Silent Hill is and deserves more recognition for that alone.
Don't you mean original 4? The Room really deserves to be put with the other first 3.
Is Silent Hill shattered memories a good Survival Horror game? No.
Is Silent Hill Shattered Memories a good psychological horror game? YES.
I would say that this is the best post Team Silent game
So... is she still your girlfriend after that...?? 😂 I'm so sorry...
Silent Hill: Shattered Relationship
I actually really enjoyed this remake/reimagining. It’s cool that we are getting a Silent hill 2 remake and I wonder if you will check it out once it’s out? Even if it sucks?
I love when games make small changes depending on what you do or say. I makes me want to willingly want to replay the game to see what else I can see rather then feeling bored to replay it.
Shattered Memories was the first silent Hill game I ever played, and finished, because I genuinely enjoyed it. And it was absolutely awesome.
then that would mean there would be a "Mario" joke from Luigi's mansion 1&2
Yep. Luigi did that first. It's just dudebros only know about Shooter games.
I really dig your reviews. They have ups and downs. Very out of the norm. You earned another number.
shattered memories is the first game i started crying as a lil baby
Honestly, the biggest thing in this game for me are the evolving monster designs.
I played this game a lot on the PS2 and PSP, never knew there was a Wii version too, awesome!
And maybe the time could have gone to making
the game better, but one it was a brand new studio that was untested
(outside of one Rush N Attack game in 2011) so it probably wouldn't have
mattered much anyways, and two the side quests were still enjoyable. In
my opinion, Downpour is good in half because of the side quests that
came with the exploration. Without the side quests there's no reason to
really explore, which would have been condensed even further to just one
or two rooms most likely, and contain ammo or health items.
Amazing pee🥺
I know when I'm looking for someone the first place I look is inside a urinal.
Shattered Memories was my favorite in the series to be honest. I liked how there isn't any combat and the chase scenes felt good imo.

Hey, the channel icon is actually really cool. The Wii had the whole channel thing going on, like TV channels obviously, so it’s like “Ooooh, look at me! I am a scary tv channel with white noise and those scary lines!”
Damn good analysis! Love it! And Shattered memories is one of my favorite SH games.
The protagonist was dead all along? What a sick plot twist.
Are you dissing?
I never finished Shattered Memories, and never knew about that plot twist... Nice review btw!
Always on my mind.
Certainly Downpour is a very lacking game but I don't understand how anyone can seriously say that it's worse than Homecoming.
Homecoming is bad as Ride to Hell. There, I said it.
strangely i loved that I could draw on the map...
Just beat the game like a couple of minutes ago and omg.
The ending and the realization was crazy-
I spend like months skipping the spoiler part of this video and now I can finally watch it.
i found this game scary the first time i played it, i mostly got scared of the phone echos and those ghosts you take pictures of, aswell the atmosphere made me uneasy (especialy in the forest section), also the jumpscare that happens when one of the monsters grabs you when you open a door sometimes always gets me.
This was the only silent hill I played and I loved it.
I love your input on games. I agree with everything you said man. keep these up!! You're very honest and good at being non biased with these reviews. You got my sub :)
SH: Shattered Memories might be a new classic (or at least a well-received game) if it's named something else. Now it's just known as another silent hill game that don't quite live up to SH's golden age.
That is what i thought. A guy who shattered memories is his first silent hill game that don't know anything about silent hill 1-4, love shattered memories, researched more about another silent hill titles and also love SH 1-4, and now adore the unnerving & atmospheric horror style of early silent hill AND the good psychological story told by exploration & symbolic nightmares like shattered memories.
I love your channel, well at least your silent hill and horror game reviews, it just kinda fills the void that Jordon Underneath had with his game videos, I love the new stuff but miss the old stuff.
Ik I'm late but this is really interesting I enjoy your content and the SH franchise entirely
