Can you imagine making a little game by yourself and then a massive group of fans come together to make a huge awesome fangame like this. That must be so gratifying.
Funny thing. Even after all this time, Y2kki is STILL BEING UPDATED. You thought it was big then? You thought you'd experienced all you could possibly see? Well it's probably like twice the size now, go play it.
As someone who just started playing very recently, there's SO MANY things to do and so many places to see. So far has spent like 12 hours on it and I'm planning to spend more in the future
...It's for this reason alone that I wish Nitrorad did a revisit of 2kki. ...Well, that, and YNO project. Especially with Collective Unconscious coming soon.
It's so so so nice to see someone talk about Yume 2kki so positively, a lot of the community regards it as mediocre or think it has "nothing to offer", mostly because of how disjointed it is from how many different people worked on it. It may not have the same sort of underlying/overarching theme and story as Yume Nikki and .flow seemed to have, but I definitely feel like it captures the surreal nature of dreams, and explorative feeling of Yume Nikki. Thank you for reviewing it!!!
@_Neopolitan _ Just because of the sheer content that has, the worlds and sub-worlds, the effects, the sprite work, and the overall enjoyement and lenght and freedom that it gives to the player. As a videogame, Yume 2kki surpass every single Yume Nikli fangame including Yume Nikki itself. As a story though, is not the best one
@Covered_in_Rust Well being fair Yume 2kii has really grotesc and horrifying worlds too, in fact some of them are worse than everything in .flow, but yeah, I agree that the overall atmosphere of .flow is darker than 2kki.
The world is so huge... Every time they update it, the connections change and theres more secret areas, and every effect actually affects something, and theres even little miniquests. Best fangame Imo.

I think I can relate to Yume Nikki and all of its fangames even more thanks to the most vivid dream I've ever had. In this dream, I and many friends and family members were inserted into this "game" that had hundreds of "levels". Each level was a different area; it could a few small islands, it could be a small room, it could be an entire building, anything. In each level, there was a certain object that you had to touch with your hand in order to be transported to the next level. The object could be a random book on a shelf, a lightswitch on a wall, or a vase on a table. The catch is that if you touched any object other than the one you were supposed to touch, you were immediately sent back to the first level to start everything all over again, so you couldn't just go around touching everything. One level in particular was just a room where everything was the exact same shade of white, but with no shadows, so all you saw everywhere you looked was just whiteness, and you couldn't see any of the objects because they all seemed to perfectly blend in with the environment, so your hand could accidentally brush against a chair and you'd get sent back to level one.
It would be cool to see Nitro revisit 2kki since the game has been updated continuously throughout the years but not sure if thats enough content for another video. or some other fangames since there are so many at this point.
It would be great if you reviewed Hotline Miami, it's different, like the Yume Nikki games, however the gameplay and message are very different, with a violently nihilistic approach. It has an amazing soundtrack and is very good in general. Thanks!

Nice Yume 2kki review! I've been playing this game ever since like 2 years ago. The truly best Yume Nikki fangames of all time! Also the only original Yume Nikki reference in the game was the room that resemble Madotsuki's. Again thanks for this review.
Went into this game a few years back thinking it wouldnt be a great experience compared to the original, thinking it would be too disjointed, etc etc. But holy shit. This vast world is so amazing to explore go play it now everyone
>On the subject of dreams and how yours happen to be mostly about familiar places with weird happenings. Mine consist of that, yet in said dreams, "Dream me" is so dence he doesn't raise a fucking eye brow, holy shit. It's the biggest reason why I still haven't "fully" experienced a lucid dream. >Sometimes most of the areas in my dreams are mixed together, and sometimes this makes them act as new areas although they are merely fusions and other cheap tricks to make weak dreams stronger.
Madotsuki: Hi guys how are you doing? Sabitsuki: I want to kill something... Usosuki: YAAAY FUN! Chia: Does anyone have some more drugs? Floret: OH LORD LUCIFER. ANSWER MY PRAYERS Urosuki: I got a moterbike bitchesssss
Thank you , that was quite a refreshing review, I really enjoyed it. Having played Yume Nikki and many of its fangames and seeing you talk about all this kinda made me feel nostaligic. Thinking back when I first discovered this whole franchise up to this very day I can say it had quite an impact on my life.
I really wish he knew about the shift trick to change effects - instead of scrolling through a list, you choose the effects from images by just pressing shift
(Nitro Rad starts discussing about dreams and how they are to us: the audience) Well, unfortunately for me, I rarely even dream anymore. I used to have the same repeating nightmares of a strange being known as "Front Row" that looks like a person, emerges from any form of electronic screen (computer monitors, TVs, Phones) and if it sees you, you're dead instantly. It was really fast in the dreams and I struggled to outrun it with it usually either showing up as a TV programme at a certain time or a program / app on the computer / phone (usually in the form of a virus, since it re-opens the same program / app if you attempt to close it / prevents you from closing it entirely). Sometimes the dreams had lives in a way where I would restart back at the beginning behind a couch (hiding from it) or on other occasions I would have a reasonably ordinary dreams, then out of nowhere it shows up. As the dreams repeated, I began to learn more about it and its weaknesses. I learned that it doesn't actually kill you but hypnotises you and it had done the same to various other people. By begging for help, it unhypnotised an individual allowing you and them to escape it for the time being. However the only way to beat them was to get to bed with the covers covering you and there has to be a pillow. Towards the end of the nightmares, I had a dream where I WAS hypnotised by it but somehow managed to break free of its control as it paced back and forth down the hall at a fast speed and when it passed by the door just stared into the room in an attempt to hypnotise me again / check that it had done so. The bed was already set when it did so and I collapsed onto the bed as it hypnotised me resulting in me finally winning against it (though it did appear again on occasion, with it no longer showing up in my dreams). Since then, I've had bizarre dreams on occasion like one that sounds like a movie story: where I was the son of a monster and my parents were actually adoptive parents (and as the result of being the son of said monster, the government were hunting me and my family down). But normally I go to sleep and I don't dream. It's just black, dark and nothing happens with me waking up soon after to my alarm. I'm not sure if it's a side effect of those reoccurring nightmares, which has somehow manipulated my brain into rarely ever dreaming to avoid most nightmares or what but it's kind of interesting how it's ended up like that. While some locations are familiar in certain dreams, my more recent dreams have warped into a far more creative mindset with new locations / things I've never seen before.
TheGavtel That's pretty interesting. While I'm no scientist, I could propose an idea as to what could has been going on. Since your dreams represent your mindscape in an abstract way, the chaser could represent a repressed part of your psyche that you were subconsciously avoiding. However, your learning process and the existence of others inside the dream is different than usual. This indicates that there are others who struggle with a similar psychological problem and how you slowly learned its weaknesses and how to win against it. Its appearance in even normal dreams indicate that whatever it was representing was problematic for you both in difficult situations and simply normal ones. But when you finally subconsciously defeated it in your dreams, something that your mind was already so used to be including, it literally emptied itself and very slowly gained a new amount of subconscious sets to use. Your old set's purpose now fulfilled, and will most likely never make nightmares occur again.
I just started playing the game yesterday! I’ve watched the video before but now I feel like a tourist or something like “OOH I’VE BEEN THERE I’VE SEEN THAT” it’s nice
Not sure if this is still in the current version, but in the version I have you can have an even more convenient method of selecting Effects by interacting with the drawer in the Bedroom, right next to the computer. Once you've set the options, pressing the Shift key in dream will bring up a neat little Menu with pictures of the Effects you have thus far. And the organization of the Effects is the same as the pause menu's organization too.
I remember when Yume Nikki was gaining traction through RUclipsrs, and I never really played it, but always had a fascination of it. Years later, I found Soundtracks of Yume 2kki on YT, and damn, what a peaceful, yet intense sound track. Led me to come to this video, looking for information about the game. I remembered Rad did a Yume review series, and I'm glad that this one was covered! Great video! ^^
That part when you talk about sharing your experiences with friends reminds me of when I play Nethack/UnNetHack, you always have a completely different story to share...
Hey Nitro! Have you been to Ovegrown city in Yume 2kki? imo it's the most beautiful part of Yume 2kki, created by wataru. He actually made the deepest part of the Yume 2kki dreamwold, leading from the Forest Pier all the way to the Depths. It takes navigating through 18 different maps to get there..
More people really need to know about the YUNO project, you can play a really good English version of yume 2kki with or without other people. You can even use it on mobile!
Uh... I really like 2kki receiving this amount of attention, really, but I think it's truly *unfair* for it to be CONSTANTLY compared to Yume Nikki. They have nothing in common, apart from some basic standpoints, mechanics and initial inspiration. The ongoing project has been a big and independent enough experience for years. As such, I don't think 'sequel' it's an adequate term. The point of the game, as it has evolved over the years, is exploration, discovery and atmosphere, I'd say, as opposed to the more "effect oriented" Nikki. Effects/endings in here are not a goal, but a tool to continue exploring further and feeling what the creators want you to. It can't be cut with the same pattern, imo. Every new area emphatizes this, actually, with almost no new wallpapers nor effects in a long while. Overall, you just have to relax and enjoy the ride. Anyways, sorry for the long rant. I love this game/experience and just wanted to share my part. Thanks for the video and review, hope more people get to play it now!
NitroRad I want to personally thank you. I've been watching your videos for a long time now, and the video you made on the original Yume Nikki really made a change in my life. For the longest time I always thought of the (for lack of a better term) Japanese anime-esque style of games, writing, TV--everything, was something only strange people enjoyed and that I never wanted to be one of those people. But it was your Yume Nikki video that convinced me to give the entire genre a try. Once upon a time I figured it was shameful to admit liking anything anime-esque, but I've come to really enjoy it and it has helped me to appreciate myself more rather than worrying about what other people think as much. It make not seem like much, but I want to offer my sincerest thank you. You produce some of my favorite content on youtube and I look forward to seeing more of your videos for a long time to come.
I've been playing Yume 2kki, and it's pretty darn good. My first "ending" was the ? ending, then endings 1-3 after getting all the effects, and I plan on trying to get ending -1 (the bean ending).
You know I subscribed to you recently from your last fangames video in hope that you'd talk about 2kki, and what do you know the next video you post afterwards. Anyway great video. Yume 2kki is a big inspiration to my art style and my love of weird things. It's probably my favorite game, I probably love it more than the original. I wish there were more videos about it on youtube.
Fun fact: If you remember your dreams with accurate details, places, people, incidents etc., that means your brain is still as functional as when you are awake . If your mind is about to truly relax, you will likely only slightly remember a void with some absctact colors and patterns before entering the REM state(in simpler terms, actual relaxing, shut-down sleep). With this in mind, the original is a relaxing dream game. Yume 2kki on the other hand is a troubled sleep game where every dream has a chance to turn into a nightmare in seconds.
i've seen some stuff around about how different personalities of people with DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) can have their own unique dreamworlds. It's possible that the girl in this game may have DID, which usually comes from trauma. Things to support this are everything that makes it feel like the dreams of multiple people, IE the different artstyles, the massive amounts of doors and effects, the scary imagery, and even the outfits from other games.
If I had a nickel for every time a Yume Nikki video had a sudden burp in it, I'd have 2 nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
The ending with the deranged smile makes me think it's directly related to .Flow's Rust, you know? In the true ending where Sabitsuki's alter ego flashes a smile that looks just like that moments before approaching the gas mask maid
There's an option that allows you to press shift and select the effects, complete with images. It's a lot easier than having to scroll through text alone. The wiki gives you instructions on the page for Urotsuki's Room.
For anyone that goes back and watches this video from time to time that has never had the chance to play Yume 2kki, there's an easier way thanks to 2kki Online It can be played on any computer, and greatly opens the door for anyone who had always wanted to play it but never could! Hell, it's even got maps for most areas, and even a routing map that shows what worlds connect to others! The best part too is that it's supported by the devs of the game themselves!

Yume 2kki online is now a thing!
WOAH THATS SO COOL
the HEH GUY
honestly I have watched this like 3 times now and it still gets a giggle out of me. Your delivery is spot on hahahaha
im so happy this fan game is STILL being updated to this day :)

dude you should totally make a new yume 2kki vid since it's been updated so heavily
(Nitro Rad starts discussing about dreams and how they are to us: the audience)
Well, unfortunately for me, I rarely even dream anymore.
Your old set's purpose now fulfilled, and will most likely never make nightmares occur again.
ok you should make a movie or at least a short film about this "front row" guy.
Man, that was so interesting, can I make something with your story?
Damn, for something brief, that was quite a ride
everyone dreams every time they sleep, multiple times in fact. you just don't remember what your brain was showing you.

Him talking about how hard gakuran is to get when I stumbled upon it accidentally lol
The homage to Ib is goated
SO MUCH TO DO SO MUCH TO SEE
I was really hoping he would say something like "so you SHOULD take the backstreets" after saying that.

That green teardrop really said
“GO CRAZY AHHHH GO STUPID AAAAAA-“
Yume 2kki is easily the most beautiful game I've ever played
I probably have a fantasy world somewhere in my dreams
I'm really intrigued by both yume nikki and yume2kki now. Thank you!! ♥
I've been playing Yume 2kki, and it's pretty darn good. My first "ending" was the ? ending, then endings 1-3 after getting all the effects, and I plan on trying to get ending -1 (the bean ending).
I've been looking forward to this episode since you hinted at it.
Great job!
Now we need a Yume Wanikki

+Zebitas Martinex Well *Yume 3kki* does sound like "Yume Freaky", which reflects the tone of these games rather well.
For me, the mysterious Ending "?" always appears when I have 24 effects
You know I subscribed to you recently from your last fangames video in hope that you'd talk about 2kki, and what do you know the next video you post afterwards. Anyway great video.
Yume 2kki is a big inspiration to my art style and my love of weird things. It's probably my favorite game, I probably love it more than the original. I wish there were more videos about it on youtube.
Your videos get better each time! Especially liked that skit about the telephone man. Ty 3 is scary...
yo dawg when you gonna talk about OFF by mortis ghost
5:24 That almost syncs perfectly.
New rantsona
2:19 that burp actually startled me.
Yume 2kki is bizarrely relatable.
Thanks for another awesome video, it just made my day! :D
I never knew there was a proper sequel to Yume Nikki.
I thought he was going to start singing All Star at 18:13.
not gonna lie yume nikki has a good fanbase it's very reserved maybe cause the game is so underground.
Will you review OFF?
I love your profile pic
Thank
This is literally one of my favorite videos in all RUclips
That Ty3 joke got me damn good. Also whats with you and Lucario
+MegamanvolnutX Lucario is his bae.
7:28 Not gonna lie, that actually made me laugh!
I don't remember my dreams...I don't even have a subconscious anymore...
i've seen some stuff around about how different personalities of people with DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) can have their own unique dreamworlds.
It's possible that the girl in this game may have DID, which usually comes from trauma.
Things to support this are everything that makes it feel like the dreams of multiple people, IE the different artstyles, the massive amounts of doors and effects, the scary imagery, and even the outfits from other games.
I would just like to point out that NitroRad likely still hasn't seen any of the worlds made by Wataru.
Hemlo laps from the past!
I’m honestly a big fan of how the jumping off the roof ending wasn’t exactly suicide. I felt like that was hard to watch in the original
The laughing man should be called the “Family guy funnies dude”.
There's an option that allows you to press shift and select the effects, complete with images. It's a lot easier than having to scroll through text alone. The wiki gives you instructions on the page for Urotsuki's Room.
F for wataru
NitroRad you are the. one of the best reviewers that i know.
Keep it up!
For anyone that goes back and watches this video from time to time that has never had the chance to play Yume 2kki, there's an easier way thanks to 2kki Online
It can be played on any computer, and greatly opens the door for anyone who had always wanted to play it but never could! Hell, it's even got maps for most areas, and even a routing map that shows what worlds connect to others! The best part too is that it's supported by the devs of the game themselves!
Dude I seriously love your videos. You do an epic job of going in depth about many different topics. Awesome job!! 😄👌 Subscribed 😆
