So one thing I gotta say about this game is I actually love how the scares work at two different levels. Ib scares are more loud noise and monster coming at you. Like a Child's fears should be about fearing the monster under the bed or the cracking of thunder. On the Flip side we have Garry who not really afraid of the loud noises or monster in a general sense anyway. He's more freaked out by things that look unsettling or just don't look right to him. He hates the feeling watched and is scared to be locked in a room filled with creepy dolls all alone. I love it and I really don't like horror games that much
Furthermore if you get the ending where you can play as Mary for a while her scares play entirely on isolation, loneliness, abandonment and the fear of rejection. Ib's sections try to spook you, Garry's sections tries to creep you out and Mary's section tries to get you on a mainly psychological, emotional and empathic level.
Maple Poppy mary didnt create the illusion. ib began seeing the gallery differently because of her fragile mental state. the game hints at this pretty heavily.
I dunno, I liked Gary's design BECAUSE it's out there. Its memorable, and all the cool shades of purples and blues makes a lot of scenes with him feel safe. I also like the detail in one conversation that he really loves dressing up weird, and I think he said he was a fashion designer? I dunno, its goofy, and I love it, that's all I'm trying to say.
Austin Mangrum he was sorta lost in translation. He's meant to be quite a feminine guy, and yes he is a fashion designer! The creator said how he's sorta meant to break usual stereotypes. (A comment further up explains it better).
From translator's blog: Garry totally talks like a lady. He uses “atashi” to refer to himself and speech patterns considered feminine (“onee,” similar to lavender linguistics), which associates him with the LGBT community. kouri also drew Garry in a kimono once with a comment about “wanting to cross the barriers of gender.” I feel the main intent was to make Garry kind of a “big sister” figure to Ib - as he says, it’s better to be gentle. Naturally, I didn’t want to go overboard and make him sound like a homosexual caricature or anything. It’s hard to strike the right balance of avoiding that and still having people pick up on it, but, you know. Engliiiiish. To be clear, Garry is explicitly referred to as a man in three places in Japanese: the line where you first find him (“the man is holding a key”), Mary asking if Garry is Ib’s dad, and Forgotten Portrait (“a sleeping man”). Thus, while Japanese doesn’t have to use pronouns like “he” and “she” if it doesn’t want to, the game telling us he’s male implies that the characters would use “he” to refer to him in English. It’s strictly Garry’s personal pronoun (“I,” “me”), atashi, that’s feminine, which says nothing definite about how Garry actually identifies (gay men will use it, for instance); still, there’s room left for interpretation. Ib’s question in the safe room is technically not “Why do you talk like a lady?”, but just “Why do you talk that way?” (I changed it because it sounded better and helped bring the fact that Garry’s supposed to sound feminine to people’s attention.) If she were more knowledgeable, she’d probably ask him something like “Why do you use that onee dialect, Gyarii-onee-chan~?” To which he’d reply: “New rule of the gallery: Don’t call me that.”
8:22 - It's not just that they look different to Garry than to Ib and Mary, though. Rather, Garry is seeing it as it really is…and so is Mary. Mary's only known the world of her "(grand)father" Guertena's varyingly avant-garde creations, so _of course_ she'd think Red Eyes' true form is cute. Ib, on the other hand (to quote the "Ruin of the Heart" book Ib can read in that room): _If your spirit suffers too much, you will soon start to hallucinate.../And in the end, you will be destroyed./And more worrying yet.../Is that you will not even be conscious of that fact._
The Gallery of nightmares mostly meant that the eyes of an adult are different The more experience you get from the world around you The more you will se everything by its true colors Inoncense its the best way to survive this world.
Mary could also know that the paintings and stuff are ugly but tricking ib into thinking they are cute by using her age against her creating illusions kind of like the other mother in coraline.
i feel like Gary's personality was really lost in translation. i see a lot of people interpreting him as an "emo hot boy" when in reality he's supposed to be a flamboyant, fashion-loving, protective character. in the Japanese version, Gary speaks in a very feminine way, using commonly female pronouns to refer to himself. he's been described by Kouri as someone who "likes to break the barriers of gender" and Kouri has drawn him wearing a woman's yukata. those things have also made people theorize if he's part of the LGBT community, but that hasn't been confirmed.
Honestly, I never saw him as an "emo boy". Sure, he's got that hair over his eye thing that is typically synonymous who emo characters, but that's about it. He's expressive and wears bright (albeit somewhat subdued or diluted) colors.
In the Spanish translation, that part of Gary is a little bit less lost, he uses some terms that sound kinda femenine (it's more subtle than saying atashi or stuff like that, but when you can ask him why he speaks like a woman, you feel more reasons to ask that than you do in English)
“Part of LGBT community” you know not everyone who identifies with an LGBT+ label is immediately submitted to a social/political group. I’m bisexual but would never seclude myself and isolate myself by identifying in a social group. Why not just say he’s an LGBT character, instead of “part of the LGBT community.”
Kinda sad you didn't talk that much about the story. Sure, most of it happens during the ending, but I think it's really interesting, especially in terms of the characters. *Spoilers* I love Mary as a character, and she's probably my favourite thing about this game. All of her conversations feel a little eerie, and she's asking stuff a little girl wouldn't really care about, almost as if she's trying to imitate what she thinks little girls act like. And when she's finally revealed to be a painting, man, it all suddenly makes sense. She was created without any contact to the real world, so she doesn't know what little girls, the thing she's supposed to be, act like, and her creator left her alone in this hellish world with monsters and even worse, noone to spent time with. So it's perfectly understandable that she's trying to keep Ib to herself and kill Gary, because Ib most likely is the first person she ever felt attached to. I kinda like the ending where you burn her canvas, it's bittersweet. On one side, Mary never got to be free and happy, but on the other, at least she's released from the nightmare of being alone forever... But despite this, still a great review! I've been anticipating this for a long time, and I wasn't disappointed.
He often talks about the endings to RPG Maker games, but he always gives a spoiler warning before, so he could've done just that. But he usually only does so when he feels like the plot is so important that it has to be mentioned, and I can understand why he doesn't feel like it. Ib has many other strong points aside from the story, so it's understandable Nitro's priorities are with something else.
To each their own. I always make sure to end her, because I hate that she makes Garry a martyr. Still, I wish there were an ending where they could both live...outside of the one where all three stay forever, because I'm pretty sure both Garry and Ib are dead by the end of it.
The reason why a person must die because Mary has no soul so she need kill Garry to get a soul. I eventually found out about this when I read that book inside the maze with three headless statues. Below is spoiler for one of Mary's ending. This is also why when Mary try to escape alone, she instead gets trapped in the dark part of the gallery and maybe dead just like the story in the library that has the tree key if I'm not mistaken.
originally, the letters Ib can't read were written in difficult Kanjis. It doesn't work so well in English though, I think. This game is one of my favorites. thank you for picking it up.
I suppose that makes sense. :? But even in English, some of the words are rather big and kind of complicated for a child... Like, I think the world painting is called "Fragmented World" or something, fragmented is kind of a big word. :p Oh, and the classic Abyss of the Deep that leads into the haunted museum world and is part of that one password puzzle, Abyss is also kind of a big word...
Kids can have a hard time trying to read words. Ib is supposed to be around 8 or 9, and for a 8/9 year old some words can be hard to read. Specially big words.
Well, the reason you can read the words on the paintings near the end is because Garry is still with you at that point, and as long as he's there, he'll read the words for you. Once you're back in the real world, you stop being able to read them. But what I felt potrayed your theme more was the decisions regarding how you treat the gallery. Garry ISN'T the super mature cool-head one (even if he tries to be), it's Ib. On multiple occasions Garry has the opprotunity to lash out at the gallery in either anger or fear, and giving into this rash immaturity is the main way to get him killed. In the first choice of this kind, Ib is the one who can make the mature decision in stopping him, and from then on it's up to Garry to keep his temper or fear controlled, or to doom himself by lashing out. It's even mentioned by Garry that Ib is rather mature (even if its in large part because she's being brave for Garry, as seen in the update endings), while Garry, while a good person, well. Isn't.
(cont) But that's a big part of what makes me like Garry a lot. He's not some suave emo guy, he's not the stoic mature one, he's just...... some well-meaning guy in over his head a bit. But he has this child with him, so he has to push on anyways, to help her escape safetly, because no matter how mature Ib is, she's still a child. They both sort of need each other, they support each other's weaknesses. Ib mature but prone to loneliness and her someone to guide and protect her (the scene of her getting upset in front of the picture of her parents, the update endings, her discomfort at being alone with Mary), and being with Garry both gives her someone to be brave for, and an adult figure to comfort her. Garry is a kind and charismatic person, but not suited at all for scary places, and is prone to lashing out in fear or anger under extreme stress, and so being with Ib gives him a reason to fight his fear and keep going, and also gives him someone to be more mature and controlled for.
It may not be a popular opinion, but out of all of the RPG Maker horror games, this one is my favorite. The music, the story, the atmosphere, and the characters really make this one stick out in my mind.
What I adored most about Ib was the whole underlying theme of artifice, the alive and bringing the artifice to life; the gallery, full of inanimate objects, manufactured by a person, come to life in its dark reflection. Ib and Gary have roses, that are a symbol of life and fertility, especially since they’re the life bar as well, yet ironically the roses are just a product of the haunted gallery. Mary is very much jovial, feeling and sentient but essentially still just plastic, in spite of her autonomy. The theme of living is even epitomised by Ib herself! Her name was supposed to be pronounced ‘ibu’ as in ‘Eve’. Not just a reference to the first living woman, the name itself literally means ‘alive’ ‘living’ breathing’. It’s one of the things that struck me most about the game and still is a huge part of me and my creative identity.
I think a lot of these aspects work super well with the young girl character. Kinda like at the beginning when she didn't know words and such could play into scary things to her are jumpscares simple and whatnot while mister emo man over here has a fear more complex and silent. A huge doll monster slowly coming at him while under pressure
thats what I was thinking, there is such a difference in the types a scares used that it make me think that the flashy noisy scared and the silent creepy ones were done as they were to show the difference in Gary and IB
Don't want to pop your bubble, but Ib doesn't know the word "Hell" because she's been through that, but rather because Garry translates the unknown words for her. There is a short exposition to that fact when you examine the painting next to where Garry is found
I’m so glad you mentioned the doll room with Garry, after years without having even thought of Ib in general, that room has ALWAYS been the first thing I thought about when someone mentions RPG Horror. I forgot a lot about this game’s puzzles and intricate story details but it says a lot that I can vividly remember how horrifying and tense that single part was. I’ve always respected Ib for that alone, but it’s good to see through this review that other parts have aged well!
Ib will always have a special place in my heart. It got me into the RPGMaker horror genre. The simple touches added for when you're playing different characters, the silence of the gallery and the eeriness of it. I think the first thing that made me realise I'd enjoy the game was how you played the game through Ib. How she wouldn't know some words and how oblivious she was. I've always thought a gallery could be creepy, so seeing that idea used so well was great. I really should replay the game again...
I really really appreciate your live action gags, for no other reason then getting the timing and pacing done well, there are a few reviewers on youtube (who I won't name but aren't hard to figure out who) who take a live action bit and just drag it on and on and on run it into the ground to the point where it makes me want to just skip ahead. Seriously, that mario 64 gag was perfectly timed, it came at just the right time made me laugh and then right back into the review, perfect
Great video! I just wanted to point out that I think the implication was that Ib was hallucinating the bunnies- there’s a book in that room about people hallucinating once their spirits have been broken, and Ib seemed to be really shaken from the painting of her parents and the subsequent nightmare. So Garry is actually seeing the dolls for what they really are, and as for Mary... if I remember correctly, one of her dialogue options has her specifically refer to them as dolls. She saw what they really were but thought they were cute regardless. Of course it’s all up to interpretation, but that’s how I saw it.
I have never clicked off of what I was doing so quickly after seeing the notification. *Loved* Jordan Underneath's review of Ib and adored Markiplier's playthrough of it back in the day. is a good review.
Jordan actually introduced me to Ib and RPG Horror games in general. So I appreciate Nitro Rad talking about this genre, I suppose, now that Jordan's channel has changed gears.
Gary reminds me of a mix between Xerxes Break and Gilbert Nightray from Pandora Hearts, appearance wise. Overall I think Ib is a really nice RPG maker horror game. It really deserves all the attention it gets.
If you’re a big fan of puzzle esque games still, I recommend 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors, I haven’t played the other zero escape games yet but that game has a very interesting narrative structure with really good puzzles to boot, plus it’s fairly easy to emulate, just be wary of trying to get the real ending, it’s a pain in the butt lol
GearsofDutyHalo4Dead Honestly the PC port fixes that problem adding a timeline to jump around the moments you need to make a decision to alter the ending you get. Also, please play VLR is an outstanding game
Ib, like Yume Nikki, was a game I’ve always been fascinated by. The world itself was marvelous to me since I’ve rarely seen a game that genuinely gave me a tense and eerie atmosphere, and the dialogue with Gary and Mary was always something that I enjoyed. I do agree that the replay value is mostly hindered by the player already knowing the answers to the puzzles, but the different interaction with the two characters more than make up for it to me.
I always wondered if the IB program was just an "our school" kinda thing. I guess not. System is super broken though. No homework and mostly project based so you can totally exploit the grading system. It's great.
ALSO one of the big, main, #1 things I love about this game is that there's just SO many little details to discover. I've played this game like 8 times and I still find new little tidbits sometimes, little events or pieces of dialogue i missed. Like how Garry reads the words on the paintings for you, he will actually talk about this with you if you go back to an older painting in the museum once you have him. And there's a few things Garry can react to if you take him backwards in the museum instead of progressing. There's also a bunch of little things you can do with Mary in the section where you're alone with her, depending on how you play out/react to the scenes. And there's stuff that can happen if you bring Mary backwards through the museum like you did with Garry, too. Try taking her to look at the book Garry makes you put away "until you're older", it's hilarious. And there's way more than that. I always love games with tons of little details to find.
kek. the doll thing reminds me of how when i was a kid, i believed the toys are alive, and that they can do harm to me if they wanted. so i tried to appease them, like i would put cookies for them to eat, so that they wouldnt, i dunno, punch me with their soft plush arms at night. despite this, at the time ive never thought about it as creepy or scary and i was never afraid of sleeping next to what i was sure a living creature who could get spiteful. kids are weird
Though this is probably gonna be swallowed in the hundreds of comments on here, thank you so much for doing the review on this. Recently I've been feeling really down and just seeing that you posted a video on a game that I love and have dedicated so much time on really made my day.
This video brings back so many memories for me. My sister and I loved to watch playthroughs of this game together and we always had so much fun discussing the game afterwards. Thanks for reminding me of these beloved times :)
This has been one of my favorite games since I was eleven years old, just hearing the music in that first minute launched me into a long line of nostalgia
I’ve seen scarier art. *Ever heard of Rule34?* Do admit though, a horror game with strong ties to art? It’s an interesting concept. Unlike another horror game that didn’t do too great, despite the concept. Layers of Fear, was it? Eh. Didn’t leave a lasting impression. I might try this out someday. Not too into these games, but they do interest me, despite the limitations.
I thought Layers of Fear was pretty good. It had a good atmosphere and some interesting psychological elements. There really weren't that many jumpscares. It could have been more engaging, and perhaps had more of a story. Still, I found it to be entertaining enough. Not the best horror game I've seen, but certainly not the worst.
I loved the music from Layers of Fear. ...But I suppose the fact that I remember the music most out of everything in that game doesn't speak well for how scary it was. I do remember liking that one puzzle where the bookshelf fell, and time was wonky, so you saw the bookshelf fall again later and there was a number on the back. That was neat. Not scary, but neat.
I remember watching Jacksepticeye play Layers of Fear for the first time and I immediately thought “wow this is a worse version of Ib.” To be fair, the game has some great concepts, it’s just not very remarkable in any way. The entire premise is incredibly vague and it leaves you with a sense of hollowness at the end of the game, not really leaving a lasting impact. I wouldn’t be surprised if it had influences from Ib, given how it went for that dreamy-art-exhibition atmosphere, but it doesn’t have the same charm due to the lack of characters or coherent story line. It’s a great experience, it just doesn’t delve into anything meaningful.
Wait...I just remembered. There’s a comic only in Japanese I have that’s called Wild Half. It’s by Asami Yuuko. One of the characters is a vet and in one part of the comic, a dog is in respiratory arrest, and the vet says “Massage!” while holding out his hands. So it must be a CPR thing. Japan has a lot of loan words and some of them are weird, at least to me. I guess Ib heard somewhere that was what you did if someone collapsed and was trying to do CPR on Garry. Not sure about the shoulders part. Maybe Ib didn’t remember right, because CPR is taught mostly the same all over the world, and the only time you touch a shoulder is to ask the person, “are you ok” in case maybe it’s not so serious and that would wake them up.
In all honesty, the blue painting sequence was goddamn terrifying. Probably the best scare imo. Also i love that shirt. It's excellent. Please shill it.
I wonder just how many major RPG Maker horror games are left to be covered. I'm sure I'm missing something, but as of now, I can only think of Ao Oni and The Witch's House. I wonder if reviews of those will be coming eventually.
One of my favorite RUclipsrs talking about one of my favorite indie games while wearing a shirt of my all-time favorite anime (with a reference to one of my favorite games)? GOOD. 👌
After 50 million years.. Great review of Ib. Hit a lot of good notes on what makes Ib really likeable and its little blemishes it has too. Been following you a long time waiting for this one lol
[Spoiler] Idk if it's still in effect but didn't mogeko say that wadanohara is banned from RUclips due to having a REALLY strong sense of rape in the bad ending (which you get first right off the bat). There was a huge incident at tumblr that lead to that problem... Is it safe to play it now??
I really enjoy the way this game handles character interaction, and dialogue. It's probably my favourite part, and it added a lot of enjoyment to the game for me, trying to find every bit of dialogue I could. Ib is the first rpg maker game I played, and will always have a piece of my heart. Thanks for making this review sharing your thoughts on it!
Hey man, I think it's a testament to how entertaining your videos are that our interest in games doesn't seem to overlap, I think I've played only a handful of the games you've reviewed. I really like your cutaway jokes like Brady as Doc Louise and the Mario 64 painting bit. Props to the video editing on that, must've been a trial.
i think the difference of scares are made because of how Ib and Gary are different with age. for kids, loud noises are always alarming and scare kids easily. weather or not the source is meant from scares, anger, or just because. mostly for those who are afraid of loud noises. but Gary has more quieter scares. which makes sense since the scariest thing to some people is not knowing something is nearby or happening before it's too late. like someone sneaking up behind you and you turn around and not notice they where there. i think it makes sense why they're different in that way.
as a rpg maker fan, I love a lot of the games that come out of the program, but this was my first one that I played, so its special to me and to see one of my favorite content creators make a video about it is something special, so thank you nitro rad, thank you
Thank you so much for finally making this review. I’ve been a fan of Ib since it came out and I’m still somehow really into it. So finally seeing you cover it was absolutely the best part of my day.
Honestly I watch this channel as a recommendation, not a review channel, because sometimes I feel like you say a bit too much. Not major things, but still the cool little details that are better when seen blind. Still, I absolutely love your channel, keep up the amazing work, and still love watching the reviews even years after playing these games, like Ib.
I kinda think Gary is that type of artist that you might see in a cartoon like the kind that'll dress like how they're artwork I mean he does go to the art gallery so maybe he is an artist? I don't know I'm just trying to find some reason why he might dress like the average anime fan girls dream boat
I once thought that this was one horror game that didn't scare me (I'm typically REALLY easy to spook), then I got to the doll room, turned the game off, and lamented the days when I had no suppressed memories.
I’m late and I’m sure someone already talked about this, but if you have Gary with you and you go back to the art gallery with him, he’ll actually fill in the ‘???’ words Ib doesn’t understand. I always liked that detail. It makes it funnier when Ib reads the pr0n book and Gary doesn’t translate, he just closes it and says “yeah, no, read this when you’re older”. On my first run years ago (before the update with the extra rooms and endings) I got the best ending with Gary, without walkthroughs or knowing about the point system, but I guess that’s just because I liked Gary so much and I’d talk with him even if his dialogue ran out. Gary and Mary (specially post extra content, the ending where she stays behind with Ib or tries to switch places with her and the gallery won’t let her is REALLY cool) are extremely fun characters that make the game half as good as it is. The game wouldn’t be as enjoyable if it was only Ib in Guertena’s world.
I love this game. It brings me a ton of nostalgia every time I play it. It no longer scares me , but I still love it. I find the art style absolutely beautiful.
So one thing I gotta say about this game is I actually love how the scares work at two different levels. Ib scares are more loud noise and monster coming at you. He hates the feeling watched and is scared to be locked in a room filled with creepy dolls all alone. I love it and I really don't like horror games that much
This is actually a really great catch. I've never thought of it that way
Furthermore if you get the ending where you can play as Mary for a while her scares play entirely on isolation, loneliness, abandonment and the fear of rejection. Ib's sections try to spook you, Garry's sections tries to creep you out and Mary's section tries to get you on a mainly psychological, emotional and empathic level.
It's things like this that made me fall in love with this game. You summed it up perfectly!
Maple Poppy mary didnt create the illusion. ib began seeing the gallery differently because of her fragile mental state. the game hints at this pretty heavily.
MP2066 wow, I never thought of that!

Deniz Demirci I see! That's fascinating, and really does make me think of him a lot differently. Thanks for explaining!
Skull_Latte it's been years since I played it, so my memory was fuzzy on the conversations. Glad I remembered right.
What... an Ib video in 2018?!?! my dreams have come true. I don't usually like RPG maker games but its uniqueness makes it my favorite.
i was so surprised to see this in my feed honestly i love it so much!!
sorry, this was released about 4 years ago :/
matthew fanous ??
Musa.Joker I try to make Ib stay alive!!!
I absolutely LOVED IB!

oh
i feel like Gary's personality was really lost in translation. i see a lot of people interpreting him as an "emo hot boy" when in reality he's supposed to be a flamboyant, fashion-loving, protective character. in the Japanese version, Gary speaks in a very feminine way, using commonly female pronouns to refer to himself. he's been described by Kouri as someone who "likes to break the barriers of gender" and Kouri has drawn him wearing a woman's yukata. those things have also made people theorize if he's part of the LGBT community, but that hasn't been confirmed.

Kinda sad you didn't talk that much about the story. Sure, most of it happens during the ending, but I think it's really interesting, especially in terms of the characters.
*Spoilers*
I love Mary as a character, and she's probably my favourite thing about this game. On one side, Mary never got to be free and happy, but on the other, at least she's released from the nightmare of being alone forever...
But despite this, still a great review! I've been anticipating this for a long time, and I wasn't disappointed.
Some Uncreative Username Why would he spoil it?
He often talks about the endings to RPG Maker games, but he always gives a spoiler warning before, so he could've done just that. But he usually only does so when he feels like the plot is so important that it has to be mentioned, and I can understand why he doesn't feel like it. Ib has many other strong points aside from the story, so it's understandable Nitro's priorities are with something else.
I honestly only go for the Mary ending when I replay the game when Im feeling nostalgic. I just like her so much. And she deserves to be happy dammit!
Makes sense to me.
Shinji Itoi The painting she went through was called “Fabricated World”
One way that could have been translated was to write it in, I dunno... IPA, maybe? Not alot of people are fluent in that.
All you need now is the original Corpse Party and you'll have completed the classic RPGmaker trifecta.
What about the Witches house?
+Sincerity Nature Wow, mistypes. *Ib's mature, but prone to lonliness and her need for someone to guide and protect her
Ooooh this is a really good explanation, thank you!
oh? Nice analysis.
It may not be a popular opinion, but out of all of the RPG Maker horror games, this one is my favorite. The music, the story, the atmosphere, and the characters really make this one stick out in my mind.
i prefer this to the witches house
May I introduce you to Cat in the Box?
@@isaiahp.4609 Cat in the Box?
I enjoy Ib more
But Ao Oni scares me more (3 years late but whatever)
Oh hey. It's that game that tried to give me nightmares because of that doll room scene....good times.
Tried? It succeeded for me.
Watch the witch's house that one LEGIT gave me nightmares for a week
Whole game actually made me get a little scared for a week or so.
That fucking doll room.
I still remember that.
RULE 1 ABOUT DOLL ROOM: DON'T TALK ABOUT DOLL ROOM.
Nitro Rad fills the hole that Jordan Underneath left.
now jordan is making short films instead of reviews
*I'M STILL WAITING FOR THAT OFF REVIEW JORDAN*
It's never going to happen. :(
joyless specter: What if all his short films were really a long, multipart, extremely abstract review of OFF this entire time?
Leaf I don''t think so. :/
HOLY MOTHER OF GOD
Curse you, fonts where capital i and lowercase L look the same!

That doll room puzzle scared the shit out of me honestly that face crawling closer was terrifyingly amazing
Thanks dude, glad you like it!

DUDE woah Ib's one of my absolute favorites!! Surprised to see you take a look at it! The art gallery still haunts me.
I've nvr seen Jordan's ib review. Now that I know he did one I'll be viewing next.
doing rpgmaker games again? sweet....
now review wadanohara and the great blue sea.
edit: No reviewing the game isnt banned. only playthroughs are
Yes, please, it's made by the same person who made Mogeko Castle.
Obito101man Nope, so much nope!
Wadanoharas so fucking good. Hope he does a video on it, more people need to know about it
OMFG pleaseeee that game is awesomeeeee :3
"romantic" ,':^)
I expected the painting jumping scene to have "Okami Review" as the world name and the missions name to be "Never"
ouch
Love your pfp
Gary reminds me of a mix between Xerxes Break and Gilbert Nightray from Pandora Hearts, appearance wise.
Overall I think Ib is a really nice RPG maker horror game. It really deserves all the attention it gets.
I can definitely see the resemblance to Break, Gilbert a bit less.
OH MY GOD YES
Definitely agree with that PH opinion. Garry is probably Break and Gilbert’s secret love child.
He also gives me some Komaeda Nagito vibes (mostly the coat lmao)
Also hi i love your videos
I can totally see that
If you’re a big fan of puzzle esque games still, I recommend 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors, I haven’t played the other zero escape games yet but that game has a very interesting narrative structure with really good puzzles to boot, plus it’s fairly easy to emulate, just be wary of trying to get the real ending, it’s a pain in the butt lol
Or Danganronpa, from the same studio.
At the "How do you jump into a painting?" line, I was totally expecting just a hard cut to SM64 footage. This was waaaaaaay better than that.
I always wondered if the IB program was just an "our school" kinda thing. I guess not. System is super broken though. No homework and mostly project based so you can totally exploit the grading system. It's great.
Cowboy Beep-Boop Holy shit.
depends on which subjects you take. if you take ib physics hl and math hl it’s hell
Funny timing for this being recomended to me, all these years later and it just got a steam release.
kek. the doll thing reminds me of how when i was a kid, i believed the toys are alive, and that they can do harm to me if they wanted. so i tried to appease them, like i would put cookies for them to eat, so that they wouldnt, i dunno, punch me with their soft plush arms at night. despite this, at the time ive never thought about it as creepy or scary and i was never afraid of sleeping next to what i was sure a living creature who could get spiteful. kids are weird
10:17 OMG no NitroRad! That was too perfect of an edit, effect, and timing! Great review man!
Though this is probably gonna be swallowed in the hundreds of comments on here, thank you so much for doing the review on this. Recently I've been feeling really down and just seeing that you posted a video on a game that I love and have dedicated so much time on really made my day.
Rabid Slimes Man, I hope you get better.
love that painting joke
God damn it, I love Brady! I did not expect him to be Doc
An Okami wall scroll?!
I see you are a man of culture.
I see you with that Hotel Dusk music at 5:40 when you start talking about puzzles. Nice little nod!
This video brings back so many memories for me. My sister and I loved to watch playthroughs of this game together and we always had so much fun discussing the game afterwards. Thanks for reminding me of these beloved times :)
10:20 makes about as much sense as it could get.
This has been one of my favorite games since I was eleven years old, just hearing the music in that first minute launched me into a long line of nostalgia
I’ve seen scarier art. *Ever heard of Rule34?*
Do admit though, a horror game with strong ties to art? It’s an interesting concept. Unlike another horror game that didn’t do too great, despite the concept. Layers of Fear, was it? Eh. Didn’t leave a lasting impression.
I might try this out someday. Not too into these games, but they do interest me, despite the limitations.
I played like an hour of Layers of Fear and found it pretty lame. You walked from one jumpscare to the next.
I remember watching Jacksepticeye play Layers of Fear for the first time and I immediately thought “wow this is a worse version of Ib.”
To be fair, the game has some great concepts, it’s just not very remarkable in any way.
Oh you cheeky little thing you... I love it. **jumps into painting**
Always retain your sense of humor, it's so great.
Wanna hear a joke?
-There is no joke-
HAHAHAHA what a great joke dude, keep making 'em
asa702, thx dude :)
Wow that was hilarious, I wish I was as funny as you, like asa702 keep it up
Wanna hear a joke? Don't ask me.
*_you lied to me_*
Wait...I just remembered.
I've done the Full IB program. It was just as horrifying as this game, so I bet that's where the name came from hehe
I did it too, got some credits for college.... but at what price?
I'm doing it rn, pain
I saw the "Jump into a painting" joke from a long way.
Thanks for finally making this, Young John Carmack.
The in curriculum is truly terrifying
"Painting of a man coughing" *sneezes*
In all honesty, the blue painting sequence was goddamn terrifying. Probably the best scare imo.
Also i love that shirt. It's excellent. Please shill it.
Shoutouts to the 10th anniversary remake in the works
How did you know? I just saw the news on Steam today.
@@Jugdjay kouri's been tweeting about it for a while, and I have been following very closely.
Oh sure, when Ib massages a dead guy its funny but when I do it I'm called a "freak" and fired from working at the morgue.
This is bringing back so many memories.
I'm so glad that up to this day this game is still getting the attention and credit it deserves. Thank you so much for making this video!
I wonder if nitro rad is going to review the epic mickey series?
That Mario 64 section seals my subscription right there. No regrets, you're awesome.
I wonder just how many major RPG Maker horror games are left to be covered. I'm sure I'm missing something, but as of now, I can only think of Ao Oni and The Witch's House. I wonder if reviews of those will be coming eventually.
Ao Oni is very overrated and not that well tbh
joyless spectre It's still significant to the genre though.
There are a plethora you could discover on ManlyBadassHero's channel. I give it my recommend.
Mr.Sades hell yeah, got me into the hello Charlotte games as well as Middens
One that's been getting quite a bit of traction lately is 'A Witches Heart'. I think ManlyBadassHero's play through of it boosted it quite a bit.
A remake of the game got released on steam recently, looks like it even has some new areas and puzzles
I wanna see bloopers of the Doc Louis and painting scenes, I know there are!
This game gives me so much nostalgia... I’m glad people still remember it!
Watching this to hype me up for the Ib remaster on Switch!!
Do you think you'll do a review on that one as well?
A remake is set to be released on PC and the switch in spring 2023!!! So freakin excited
I don't want this good quality content, I subscribed for the burger livestreams 😡
One of my favorite RUclipsrs talking about one of my favorite indie games while wearing a shirt of my all-time favorite anime (with a reference to one of my favorite games)? GOOD. 👌
I've been waiting 😏
considering the elitism of some people in IB schools, it would make sense that the game "Ib" takes place in a modern art museum.
Hell yeah, more horror games please. How about some newer ones?
After 50 million years..
Great review of Ib. Hit a lot of good notes on what makes Ib really likeable and its little blemishes it has too. Been following you a long time waiting for this one lol
I still need the Wadanohara one ;C
Gray garden too?
Yes :
[Spoiler] Idk if it's still in effect but didn't mogeko say that wadanohara is banned from RUclips due to having a REALLY strong sense of rape in the bad ending (which you get first right off the bat). There was a huge incident at tumblr that lead to that problem...
Is it safe to play it now??
Xamaica Suero only live playthroughs are banned. reviews are fine
Awesome video, you should do the Witch's House next.
The witch’s house is my favorite rpg maker game of all time
*massage shoulders*
wait whAT?
WHAT IS THIS GAME??
Hey man, I think it's a testament to how entertaining your videos are that our interest in games doesn't seem to overlap, I think I've played only a handful of the games you've reviewed.
I really like your cutaway jokes like Brady as Doc Louise and the Mario 64 painting bit. Props to the video editing on that, must've been a trial.
aaa what's the name of the music at 4:18
A sound track from the game, don't remember the name though :/
i think the difference of scares are made because of how Ib and Gary are different with age. for kids, loud noises are always alarming and scare kids easily. weather or not the source is meant from scares, anger, or just because. mostly for those who are afraid of loud noises. but Gary has more quieter scares. which makes sense since the scariest thing to some people is not knowing something is nearby or happening before it's too late. like someone sneaking up behind you and you turn around and not notice they where there. i think it makes sense why they're different in that way.
i🅱️
👁👅👁 👌
Ib to this day is still my favorite RPG maker game. I have played all 10 endings many times and am so glad you finally did a video on it.
Are u gonna review the other games by mogeko? Like Wadanohara or Gray Garden?
as a rpg maker fan, I love a lot of the games that come out of the program, but this was my first one that I played, so its special to me and to see one of my favorite content creators make a video about it is something special, so thank you nitro rad, thank you
I love this game
Thank you so much for finally making this review. I’ve been a fan of Ib since it came out and I’m still somehow really into it. So finally seeing you cover it was absolutely the best part of my day.
Whoah IB Horror game on 2018??
Nice
Jake Cross
apparently he's a fashion designer, probably why he's dressed like that
언시 That's kinda dumb but I get it
I once thought that this was one horror game that didn't scare me (I'm typically REALLY easy to spook), then I got to the doll room, turned the game off, and lamented the days when I had no suppressed memories.
im here!!!! :D
Seeing these videos really makes me appreciate RPG maker games more. You really bring them justice.
Early af
Oooooh boy, that Hotel Dusk Room 215 song at the begining ... Maaaaaaaaaan I've missed that game !
I've always liked your style of videos, but I'm noticing that you're putting more effort into the skits/gags lately.
I like that a lot, good job!
Your videos editing and joke quality are getting better by the video, glad I subscribed.
I was obssessed with Ib in highschool, definitely one of my favorite RPG Maker game
Kinda was waiting for an Ib video...!
Ib is one of my favorite rpg horror games because of its unique art style.
I love this game, I think art can be really eerie and Ib captures that perfectly
That mario painting joke was one of your best great job on the video
