The best U2 song that no one listens to. This song resonates an intense memory of my first love. Back when I could still seem to experience beautiful moments. I've not felt that in a long time. Age seems to dull the feeling....
It's one of U2's best, no question. I've loved this song for over 30 years. I remember when I saw the announcement for the Joshua Tree tour my first thought was "they're finally going to play Red Hill Mining Town live. I have to go!"
Unfair To Compare.......It's Bono.....It Always Will Be Bono.........We Grow With You Man.....We All Love You.....We All Love U2..........Great Classic U2 Song.....Takes Balls To Sing' Red Hill Mining Town'.
Great song. Was supposed to be a single from the album but Bono knew he could not reach the very high notes near the end( love slowly slips away...), and still can't. Great version and humbling to see even such a talent has its limits.
you have to remember these guys were singing these songs and making them famous 20-30 years ago. It is unfair to expect them to sound as they did. We have all got old. He still belts this song out and does a damn good job in my opinion albeit with a bit of rough around the edges..
A lot of people seem to be unhappy with this rendition but I love both the studio version and this one...a mark of a truly great song is one that can be adapted in multiple ways and still be amazing. This is one of them.
chaseme65 I was one of those who wasn't a big fan of this new version, but it has really grown on me. The pace and overall tone fits so much better when they perform as well as giving something somewhat new.
After they recorded the original version, they could never recreate it, so they had to try a different version. That’s what Adam Clayton said in an interview.
The original version had two very active guitars. Bono wouldn't be able to play one of them and not even get to those vocal notes. So they replaced the guitars with a piano, lowered their pitch, and yet Bono couldn't make the highest notes at the end. "LOVE slowly stripped away ... laaaaavvvv, has seen a better day"...
Saw them in Foxborough on 6/25. I did not expect this. One of my favorite songs and had not been done live before his tour due to th vocal range. I actually really love this new version.
U2 refused to play this for most of their career. In fact, I defy you to find one live video of this pre-2000. Bono didn't like the song because of the high register and the band as a whole didn't like the song. I think it's actually my favorite U2 single ever.
I'm an occasional drug user who gets paranoid 🤧 🤪 and thinks these songs are for him ... but its a beatiful feeling ..its feels alive and gives me hope... hope to strive forward for better life.
He's done occasional background vocals through the years. Even Adam had (and used) a mic on one tour, (Unforgettable Fire) though I think that's the only tour I've seen that.
I love the base in this live version. The horns were a lot more prominent from the audience though (saw this show at Arrowhead in KC, with Beck as the opening act!!!) It was good stuff!
Of course it's so different from the studio version and his voice is not the same, but I still like this performance. His voice is still powerful even though he struggles sometimes.
I know this music is for everyone. I’m not trying to corner the market with my comment or box in what U2 is or isn’t but does anyone else find this song just totally Christ haunted? I don’t always experience it this way, but often. Like a window left in the skies... I saw a comment recently about The Impressions song “People Get Ready” in which someone, claiming not to be religious, said they nevertheless felt the Spirit resting on them whenever they listened. Do other people feel it this way? “...it always stops beside a name, a presence I can feel.” Something deeply, experientially... Jesus.
Los tipos tocaron en vivo una canción que jamás habían hecho en vivo (razones que solo los verdaderos fanáticos sabemos) y lo critican en vez de disfrutarlo...
Can't remember where I read that they didn't play this often in concert cuz it's hard on the vocals. www.atu2.com/news/bono-explains-why-u2-never-played-red-hill-mining-town-live.html

My favorite from Joshua Tree. 🤷♂
Nice to see this song rediscovered after being lost for 30 years, one of my favorites.
Me too.
My favorite U2 song and I love that he doubled up my favorite 2 lines from a U2 song:
Love, slowly it’s stripped away
Love, has seen it’s better day
i always thought that this is one of their best. cant explain why .
Cuz it is.
this song is majestic!

I give ZERO shits this to compare this rendition of earlier ect...it's so powerful STILL. JUST BEAUTIFUL. I'm hitting replay all day. ♥️✊
What a version. Bono is the man!!! Such a beautiful voice for a Rock singer.
My fav u2 track.remember being a kid using my tennis racket as a guitar. Great times, great music to mime to

"a bit rough around the edges" - he is terrible. Sounds like a cat being slaughtered.
Keep in mind, Bono could not even sing this song live in 1987.
@@savedbyjesusblood Ha. Christian vidoes. Good luck with that. No harm meant.
who do you consider to be an example of a great live singer. ? provid link please.
@@goldenhourkodak Not "couldn't," but rather just **didn't.**
Always my favorite U2 song oh along with bad, a sort of homecoming, pride, and bullet the blue sky. All incredible teenage memories

chaseme6 well a lot of people forget he is 57
uh so what .... another reason to stop

only on night 2, first night he missed one verse, nevertheless great anyway :)
Fab to see this...thank you...wow lol at the crowd back then. No phones nothing but great music.
My personal favourite live version of this song is from Lemon Chile. Great performance, nearly perfect!
So thankful I made the 250-mile trip to see this show. This was my favorite of the night. Thanks for the video.
He nailed it! For brief moments he sounded like the record!
No he sounded better than the record. He was screaming on the album which everyone can do. Here he sang it
I've been watching this video everyday since it's been uploaded. This song is so incredible live. thanks for sharing!
A big thank you from the cheap seats here, great job.
One of the best concerts of my life

a performance of this song doesn’t exist pre-2017
Their best song for me.
Amazing song and amazing brass sound! What a moment!
was at this one!!! fantastic show and first time seeing u2, made my year as a 16 years old hahah
My favourite U2 song.
Beautiful in all ways
Thank you Bono. ❤🎉
have to say I think that's actually a great vocal performance for a live performance
I'm an occasional drug user who gets paranoid 🤧 🤪 and thinks these songs are for him ... but its a beatiful feeling ..its feels alive and gives me hope... hope to strive forward for better life.
Absolutely beautiful
Isn’t it just?!
Rarely performed song live. What a great song
Seeing how well Bono handles the chorus, I think they should play it more.
1:10 At his 57 years, has a lot, and I mean it, a lot of power on his voice, even to this date, still one of the greatest singers
Beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤
This is Great!
I was at the concert in Auckand and really liked this version of the song😘
This is probably their best song. Along with Where The Streets Have No Name. This Tour did not give justice to its greatness.
Bono still being able to sing it at the same key...Amazing.
You must be deaf cause this is dropped at least a half step
Tears... he sings it so beautifully. I feel like this is how he envisaged it. Fucking love this band so much xxoo
The impact of the video moves U2 are faithful to their To, their cause fight world poverty be commiserable, towards others ❤️🙏🎸🎺🎷🎤🎧🎶🎵
I listened this song for the first time at the show in São Paulo. Love it. Its brilliant!
Love this song
Bono did a great job singing this again since its set at such a higher vocal level. 😊
love this song ...special meaning....💜
Beautiful performance of a magnificent song ❤️ can’t wait for JT19 Seoul
Larry Mullen Jr. was miked and singing, that's rear. Very cool!
Miked during ZOOTV Too
And during Elevation tour.
He's done occasional background vocals through the years. Even Adam had (and used) a mic on one tour, (Unforgettable Fire) though I think that's the only tour I've seen that.
@@brianshaffneraclc pre boy, boy, october and I think more.

Que crack Larry Mullen viejo. Una locura la técnica que tiene
Wait, Larry singing???? Now this is so amazing!!!!!
Bono ❤️um momento inesquecível...21/10/2017...São Paulo!!
Time machine ❤
Une des plus belles chanson de U2, trop méconnue.
명곡. 드러도 드러도 드러도 여운이 기이 ㅂ 게 남는 곡.
ㅋㅋㅋ 갑자기 한국어 툭 튀어나와서 놀랐네
This is an extremely hard song to sing. No surprise Bono must take shortcuts to get this done.
@Andy B obviously Bono wrote it
This version is in a lower key and Im not surprised. The original is so high! Brilliant vocal!
@Andy B I think Bono said he used to write songs he couldn’t sing
Even in the original, he sounds like he's belting out with plenty of difficulty.
Then he shouldn’t sing it anymore. This was a train wreck. I guess they were playing the whole album. But my god he’s embarrassing himself.
Merci Bono ❤
One of my favorite. What a voice in the original !and the guitar at the same simple and finess
Wish I could get shit done with this amount of class man!!!! timeless my friends
I love the base in this live version. The horns were a lot more prominent from the audience though (saw this show at Arrowhead in KC, with Beck as the opening act!!!) It was good stuff!
Excelente musica do u2 red hill mining town! muito boa!
It's a crime they didn't record a live album from this tour
better this version than the original, u2 in a state of grace, magnificent
Of course it's so different from the studio version and his voice is not the same, but I still like this performance. His voice is still powerful even though he struggles sometimes.
Chills💗
Isso é maravilhoso!
the Joshua tree was U2s rumours.
Sad that they didn't publish any official live DVD from that tour.
I love you John
You is always mine Bono. ❤

Ó U2 é bom demais né é d.minha, época 🎉
Forgot Larry helped with backing vocals on this one. This was good live. LA&NYC4X
Bono igual que antes amigo 🙋👍🤗😩😍
Meu Aniversário com música é essa tudo
They sound sound organic, of course different like back in their days..its interesting to hear a slightly different approach
Flat performance. Thanks for the post
The horns sound like something the Beatles used on Magical Mystery Tour. A concession to age but pretty well played all in all. Tough one to tackle.
brilliant

Probably still to emotional as well
The song title is Red Hill Town...no mining
Not true...en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Hill_Mining_Town
Shadow of the original...suggest they take this one off any current playlist.
🇧🇷
great song, very questionable camera work though
Should be Redruth Mining Town
Bono Sings this theme better than original disc!
