My fave from an album of faves. This was Bono's Baby and it kicked his Ass...The band had about 23 songs to cull for the album, many weren't finished, including this one, and they simply didn't have time to spend on it. Bono couldn't get the right sound, arrangement, etc and U2 had already Tabled it for a future time but Bono kept on it. It's a song about Divorce in a Coal Mining town and Bono wanted it on Joshua Tree. This has the best vocals he ever recorded and is only performed live when he feels his voice will hold up while he sings mostly out of Range

A criminally underrated song, one of U2's very best tracks on their best album ever, The Joshua Tree. Undoubtedly brilliant, a treasured gem and genuine masterpiece.
This is beyond u2's greatest song. It's arguably one of the best pieces of music ever composed in history. Nothing is ever perfect, but this song comes close to it
When I bought this album at age 15, I of course focused on the US singles/hits. However, even at that age I could see that THIS song on the album was THE eternal classic of the album. So much soul, emotion and timelessness in it. One of the best they ever recorded.
The Joshua Tree changed my life. Being sent to boarding schools and summer camps I would play Joshua Tree album and realize there is a world out there !!!! U2 my bigger brothers !!!
Forced to attend Military School. (6th grade) in 79 !!! Out of Control, I will Follow playing on radio !!! Attention, War arrives (a new March) (got me in trouble) and then I see a light, The Joshua Tree !!!! TopJimmy
I was driving home on 15 south next to the Las Vegas strip when this song came on my Pandora, Subculture: 80s Alternative channel. I blasted up the volume on my JBL sound system, started singing along and couldn't help but to get teary and emotional. These 80s masterpieces do it to me all the time! I love U2 and now I'm looking into buying tickets to their show at the MSG Sphere in Las Vegas. I hope they play this song!!!
Saw U2 1987 The Is Joshua Tree tour at the Hollywood sportatorium In Hollywood, FL. He brought the house down with this song ! No Giant video monitors or laser show. No props or Gimmicks. Just a voice that could melt a Angel's heart. Absolutely Intoxicating.
The perfect song basically. From the perfect album. I always think it’s a bit mad that if these 4 people hadn’t met when they did....did what they did....the world would be a completely different place! If you were to change one tiny single aspect of U2 they wouldn’t be as awesome as they became. 👍
Where the hell has this song been my entire life? 15 years or so being a U2 fan and some of there best stuff is shit i've never heard before. Thanks RUclips recommendations!
U2 in their heydays ( 80s -90s) were as good as any top rock band in last 50-60 years . Bono was very passionate singer then and that ringing guitar was incredible
The music is good, the lyrics are good, the voice yes...Bono, Larry, Edge and Adam beauty is there... Yes their youngness ...God that remember my my time, my beauty my youngness... God thank for the blessing, Tks U2 let's get older together, better than dying young
This song is one of the reasons this band is probably one of my favorites of what I call the modern era. Meaning any bands that weren't conceived in the 60s. The Who. The Beatles. Led Zeppelin. I always loved U2. REM. The Talking Heads. The Pixies.
Omg this man..... this voice..... 💚💋😘 I have been listening to them since early 80s!! Man, Bono you really help me through some very tough times in my life, I turned to your music and wishing I could have found someone like you instead of the abuser I was with at the time. Still listening to you today 2/19/2021 my birthday 🎂 and with a beautiful man!!! I love you Bono, and U2, thank you!💚💚💚💚🙏💋
I saw U2 on the Joshua Tree Tour in I guess 87. We stood in line all night long in the rain for tickets. In the morning, everyone stormed the doors of the record shop, they even had to call the police in. I was the only one who squeezed in to the counter to get 4 tickets. The sold out on the guy after me. We were 4 rows from the top of the stadium in NJ but no one cared. U2 had only white lights in the concert. Nothing else but the music. The entire stadium stood for the whole concert. Unbelievable. The Joshua Tree will go down as one of the greatest complete albums in history with the likes of Ziggy Stardust!
I spent most of the late 80s to 90s listening to U2. I travelled to their beat. They felt evangelising and so did my trips If i enjoy them less now, I realise it's because I have lost some of my youth, drive and energy, and that passion and soul. Mixed with anger and fire in the belly
I bought the Joshua Tree about 15 or 16 years ago but it's only today that I found out that they have a video for this song. One of Bono's best vocal performances.

Thanks
A criminally underrated song, one of U2's very best tracks on their best album ever, The Joshua Tree. Undoubtedly brilliant, a treasured gem and genuine masterpiece.
This song is a hymn honoring humanity, creativity, talent, and the sensibility we all possess.
The best his voice has ever sounded IMO. My favorite U2 song. Love the canaries🐤
canaries are symbolic when minerium exploration they used the birds to see if tunnels have oxygen ...
if the birds dont comeback ....
This is beyond u2's greatest song. It's arguably one of the best pieces of music ever composed in history. Nothing is ever perfect, but this song comes close to it
yes
When I bought this album at age 15, I of course focused on the US singles/hits. However, even at that age I could see that THIS song on the album was THE eternal classic of the album. So much soul, emotion and timelessness in it. One of the best they ever recorded.
I was the same aged 18!
So so true was always my favourite song and still is over 30 years later
Yes indeed! This song is so full of emotion! Every time I hear it it gives me strength to keep going! Best wishes to you!
One of my favourite U2 songs
Absolute classic
Definitely one of the best rock bands ever! Powerful voice and awesome guitar and bass and drums!
Joshua Tree - a devastatingly great album. It perhaps equals Beethoven's 9th Symphony. Greatness still lives among us.
Don't push it.
Michael Reid Perry
Hyperbole much?
The best album in the world.
You can’t compare it with Beethoven. Different time period and genre. It is one of the best albums from the 80s.
Absolutely my favorite U2 song (though One Tree Hill comes close) from maybe the best album ever, Joshua Tree.
@coby PORSCHE U2 didn’t perform this song live until 2017
sadly didn’t perform live until 2017
One of their best if not The best song from U2.
Yes... along with A Sort of Homecoming, Running to Stand Still, Bullet the Blue Sky and... so on and so on ;-)
2023... and after 36 years I still listening to this masterpiece...🥰 That´s why I love so much U2. The Best Band in the World...❤🩹
I’m listening to U2 Red Hill Mining Town mid July 2023
Was, is, and always will be my favorite U2 song. Turn it up!
U2 Red Hill Mining Town is one of my personal favorite song
My favorite song on my favorite album of all time. It is brilliant. It's so is so heartfelt and well done.
Love this song. What a great voice!
These songs never get old
This is my all time favorite U2 song.
Me too, I like its sad passionate message.
Beautiful voice. He is born to sing..
The best song of the album!
Let's go down on Red Hill Town... yeah! 80's all the way. Nostalgic, unpredictable, and tenacious.
The perfect song basically. From the perfect album. I always think it’s a bit mad that if these 4 people hadn’t met when they did....did what they did....the world would be a completely different place! If you were to change one tiny single aspect of U2 they wouldn’t be as awesome as they became. 👍
Never even knew that they had done a music video on this cracking track!
That guitar does it for me! This song and One Tree Hill have always been my two favorites on this album!
The music is good, the lyrics are good, the voice yes...Bono, Larry, Edge and Adam beauty is there... Yes their youngness ...God that remember my my time, my beauty my youngness... God thank for the blessing, Tks U2 let's get older together, better than dying young
Youth is awesome, but Larry has aged like the finest of wines. 😻
I am listening. One of my all times favourites as well as "Unforgettable Fire"
Unforgettable Fire is the most underrated album of theirs
I saw U2 in concert in Toronto at The CNE GrandStand!! The Joshua Tree is my favorite album. I miss not hearing U2 on the radio 😕
This song is not the best each one is best ❤😊
I heard the whole album (Joshua Tree) on the radio tonight!!! A tribute ;-)
When i bought The Joshua Tree cassette this one was my favorite song at the beginning. This album is one of the most listened here un México.
One of the BEST SONGS - off of the BEST ALBUM - by the BEST BAND! ❤
Larry looks like a mini Dolph Lungren
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
God bless the Irish!
Irisshhhhhhhh Englishhhhhhh. 😊
This song is one of the reasons this band is probably one of my favorites of what I call the modern era. Meaning any bands that weren't conceived in the 60s. The Who. The Beatles. Led Zeppelin. I always loved U2. REM. The Talking Heads. The Pixies.
Omg this man..... this voice..... 💚💋😘
I have been listening to them since early 80s!! Man, Bono you really help me through some very tough times in my life, I turned to your music and wishing I could have found someone like you instead of the abuser I was with at the time.
Still listening to you today 2/19/2021 my birthday 🎂 and with a beautiful man!!!
I love you Bono, and U2, thank you!💚💚💚💚🙏💋
Never can I ever get tired of this one...one of the greatest song ever made...
Joshua Tree é um álbum muito sentimental, uma obra de arte imortal.U2 é uma maravilha.
When U2 were U2...
this song he sings with soul, one of my favorites ... congratulations to the band U2 for the moments and for what the songs do in people's lives
God hears he loves . He waits for us all equally.
I fuck god.
I spent most of the late 80s to 90s listening to U2.
I travelled to their beat. They felt evangelising and so did my trips
If i enjoy them less now, I realise it's because I have lost some of my youth, drive and energy, and that passion and soul.
Mixed with anger and fire in the belly
I love how you can hear fingers slide up and down the frets in this song. Just adds to the whole experience of the song. 👍
All time favorite U2 Song. Very underrated song
a sweaty Bono... that's just too much for my weak heart :-)
Enhances his passion
Timeless.
U2 are padophile boy child lovers. that's thems secret.
zooropa and Achtung baby I prefer also as the best ones.
I bought the Joshua Tree about 15 or 16 years ago but it's only today that I found out that they have a video for this song. One of Bono's best vocal performances.
