MY LETTER TO U2-1987 I saw you guys on the Joshua Tree tour in 1987 at MTSU-Middle Tennessee State University Saturday November 28th 1987. The Bodeans opened up for you. I remember at the time Larry had a crush on Wynonna Judd and she came out and sang a duo with Bono! I didn't have tickets to the show. A friend of mine drove us 3 hours from East Tennessee to see the show. We bought tickets at the box office for $18.50. We ended up 8th row center stage! A criminally underrated song, one of U2's very best tracks on their best album ever, The Joshua Tree. Undoubtedly brilliant, a treasured gem and genuine masterpiece.
Red Hill Mining Town is for me one of U2’s most criminally underrated and overlooked songs. This deserved to be a single far more than With or Without You. Amazing slow build up to a fantastic ending. Bono’s vocals here are some of the best he’s ever produced. Even the ending and the protracted “red hiiiiilllllll…” and fade out brings me out in goosebumps. WTSHNN and SHFWILF are the iconic songs on The Joshua Tree and are rightly regarded as some of U2’s finest work. But the most stunning and moving song on the album? This hands down, it deserves far more recognition. It’s up there with U2’s finest moments.
I totally agree with you, this is such a wonderful (& underrated) song. Bono's vocal performance on this song is astounding. The end section is obviously at the very limit of his range but that's what gives it such incredible passion. And yet I often feel that Bono is overlooked by a lot of people as a great singer.
Don’t know why but I had this song on my mind, hadn’t heard it in over 20 years. Pure magic, touches the depths of my soul, transporting me to a beautiful place and time.

This is without question one of their greatest songs. A sleeper song that was on the backside of Joshua Tree, which is still one of the few albums where every song was a masterpiece.

U2 isn't about or 'behind' Bono, though i absolutely share ur admiration for the man. Truth is, any member of U2 would be 'another very good artiste', but, together, they become magic.
As a group, bigger than the sum of their parts. The band is not Bono and the rest, it is U2. All credit to them for sticking it out for 40+ years with no member changes, except they needed a drummer to fill in for Larry in Vegas because he was ill. But he should be returning.
Best Album of all time IMO. U2 has saved me many times, through hard times as their music is not only amazing, but so therapeutic, gets to your soul, deep down and grabs you to take you higher in ways that are indescribable. Thank you Bono, Edge, Adam and Larry for not only your music but your devotion to us, the fans.
I put the Unforgettable Fire album above Joshua Tree and War by a toenail, but I challenge anyone to name three phenomenal albums in a row by any other band. They are like the original Star Wars trilogy of rock music.
When I bought this album at age 15, I of course focused on the US singles/hits. However, even at that age I could see that THIS song on the album was THE eternal classic of the album. So much soul, emotion and timelessness in it. One of the best they ever recorded.
You can say whatever you want about U2, but a group who is able to make to the top charts in three, fours different decades is definitely something else.
You hear a band move from their raw energetic early days, knowing that one day they will grow and mature as artists. Then they produce a song like this, beyond anything you can imagine.
Omg this man..... this voice..... 💚💋😘 I have been listening to them since early 80s!! I can’t think of many albums I can listen to in its entirety but this is one of them. Transports me back to high school, up in my room in the wee hours of the morning,,, thinking about the girl.
One of their best....haha...Love U2 but they didnt come close before or after Joshua Tree...perfection
The man is a genius... 🇮🇪 and lets no forget the great band behind him 👌
U2 isn't about or 'behind' Bono, though i absolutely share ur admiration for the man. Truth is, any member of U2 would be 'another very good artiste', but, together, they become magic.
@@dortmunderkelp1704 yes, like the WHO, four solo artists.
As a group, bigger than the sum of their parts. The band is not Bono and the rest, it is U2. All credit to them for sticking it out for 40+ years with no member changes, except they needed a drummer to fill in for Larry in Vegas because he was ill. But he should be returning.
remember when this album was the entire world?
My favorite song on my favorite album of all time. It is brilliant. It's so is so heartfelt and well done.
I could lose myself, you I can't live without
Best Album of all time IMO.
They are like the original Star Wars trilogy of rock music.
u bet!! BEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME !!
Bono is the man with the most beautiful voice I have heard in my entire lifetime. Best ever!
Lettie Starkey he really does have killer vocals. And he's easy on the eyes!
Nostradamus of music, listen to it well.
Never even knew that they had done a music video on this cracking track!
I miss the days where singers really cried it out. I miss the 80's so much. Only TINY pockets of that sentiment can still be found in 2021.
Never hear it howadays
No it all sounds like moaning and auto tune these days.
@@diddlysquat8595 robot vocal moans and groans
I’m listening to U2 Red Hill Mining Town late April 2023
His eyes. Those gorgeous eyes. I was entranced. His voice is so beautiful. Filled with passion. This band is amazing.
Don't forget About THAT Mane Of Hair.
Yes. Super intense. His (the entire band's, really) passion is always, always evident. Full of emotion.
Very Underrated
U2 Forever
I am listening. One of my all times favourites as well as "Unforgettable Fire"
Unforgettable Fire is the most underrated album of theirs
@@hrossaman I meant the track. But yes, you are right.
U2 on the top of the music world..
First time seeing this video and I’m old!. My favorite track on the album.
This is in my opinion the most underrated u2 song
When I bought this album at age 15, I of course focused on the US singles/hits. However, even at that age I could see that THIS song on the album was THE eternal classic of the album. So much soul, emotion and timelessness in it. One of the best they ever recorded.
I was the same aged 18!
So so true was always my favourite song and still is over 30 years later
Yes indeed! This song is so full of emotion! Every time I hear it it gives me strength to keep going! Best wishes to you!
The best song of the album!
You can say whatever you want about U2, but a group who is able to make to the top charts in three, fours different decades is definitely something else.
You hear a band move from their raw energetic early days, knowing that one day they will grow and mature as artists. Then they produce a song like this, beyond anything you can imagine.
Still fantastic bringing me back
Never can I ever get tired of this one...one of the greatest song ever made...
The best damn Band on planet.
My favorite track on The Joshua Tree. So powerful! Had no idea there was a video for the song until today.
Such a lyrically rich song. The strip mining of love.
Best U2 track ever, shivers down the spine.
I agree!
I wanna wish a Happy early 62nd Birthday to U2’s Drummer Larry Mullen Jr
I love how you can hear fingers slide up and down the frets in this song. Just adds to the whole experience of the song. 👍
All time favorite U2 Song. Very underrated song
A vocal performance like that is a once in a lifetime thing, people.
@@pauls6320 Even for Bono.
U2 will go down in history for sure
This is the best song they made.
From father to son.
Omg this man..... this voice..... 💚💋😘
I have been listening to them since early 80s!! Man, Bono you really help me through some very tough times in my life, I turned to your music and wishing I could have found someone like you instead of the abuser I was with at the time.
Still listening to you today 2/19/2021 my birthday 🎂 and with a beautiful man!!!
I love you Bono, and U2, thank you!💚💚💚💚🙏💋
God hears he loves . He waits for us all equally.
I fuck god.
He doesn't have to wait. He knows.
@@pauljam8197trog. Go listen to some metal.
I saw U2 in concert in Toronto at The CNE GrandStand!! The Joshua Tree is my favorite album. I miss not hearing U2 on the radio 😕
This song is not the best each one is best ❤😊
I heard the whole album (Joshua Tree) on the radio tonight!!! A tribute ;-)
The Joshua Tree changed my life. Being sent to boarding schools and summer camps I would play Joshua Tree album and realize there is a world out there !!!! U2 my bigger brothers !!!
Forced to attend Military School. (6th grade) in 79 !!! Out of Control, I will Follow playing on radio !!! Attention, War arrives (a new March) (got me in trouble) and then I see a light, The Joshua Tree !!!! TopJimmy
this song he sings with soul, one of my favorites ... congratulations to the band U2 for the moments and for what the songs do in people's lives
First time seeing this video. Can't believe 36 years've passed, since I first heard the song
Love this song. What a great voice!
When i bought The Joshua Tree cassette this one was my favorite song at the beginning. This album is one of the most listened here un México.
This is more than a masterpiece...
I'm 63 and still singing it. Poetry in motion 👍
One of my favourite U2 songs
Absolute classic
One of the BEST SONGS - off of the BEST ALBUM - by the BEST BAND! ❤
Huge U2 fan and until this very moment, I had no idea this video even existed. Amazing song. Incredible cinematography with beautiful lighting...managed to make the cold hard depths of a coal mine seem inviting somehow. Thanks so much for posting so I could finally discover some vestige of U2 that has eluded me all these years.
Agree -- I don't remember seeing this video on MTV back in those days. . . ??
I think the song was only released as a single in Australia, so the video would have been more or less irrelevant to MTV programmers. But what do I know other than this song is stellar.
The album that changed the world. An utterly magnificent concert experience as well. Had me in tears. Memories of growing up with them.
Its sooo pure and soo personal. (The song: ," " "Red Hill Town"). By U2. My Best Friend died a few months ago. We have had very different paths. One of her favorite bands were Judas Preist. I miss her! We lived 2 different Lives! Yet , I Loved her sooo MUCH!!
Phenomenal album. Impossible to pick a favorite song but every time I roll the dice they land on this one
