    • @Billy-bc8pk
      @Billy-bc8pk Месяц назад

      Most of the features are dependent on tech that wasn't done. Scanning and exploration are/were dependent on features like PES and server meshing, since things have to persist in order to scan for them and retain that data indefinitely so you can explore it or sell it. Every time people complain about CIG's "lack of gameplay", they always highlight how they have absolutely no idea how game design works.

Then when Marketing saw the change coming down the pipeline, their noses smelled money, so they told the ship team they needed to make another t3 med bed ship/vehicle to capitalize on sales and the Nursa fit in perfectly with what people ask for frequently. If someone wishes on a genie and 1.0 releases tomorrow, they will have the same problem in a week when they want to add the next feature. Right now it's a bunch of concepts that rarely works for more then a few hours before imploding. Gameplay is always king and God knows they already have more ships in the concept pipeline then they'll be able to deliver on already so perhaps they should start giving players a reason to buy the ships that are already in the game and a sandbox that feels more like a sandbox and less like a cat litter box that hasn't been cleaned in a month.

    Like "gameplay doesn't make money" is absolutely a fair thing to say when CIG SHOWS "gameplay" at citizen con, then releases ships instead. Sure, they have worked on gameplay along the way because they've had to. However it hasn't been with nearly the same degree of dedication / attention and time that ships get.
    There's so many glaring issues with the gameplay of the game and further more legitimate questions about how the BASE gameplay mechanics of a 12 year old concept are going to work.
    How will mines work, how will slaving turrets work, how are you supposed to get 25 people to help crew a ship, let alone 15, or 10, even 5 is a very difficult amount to manage already. What will reward systems look like and gameplay for people who aren't the pilot? OR you can say that this duty of the concept artist was actually built into the process. If the former...well...we all know where that line of thinking leads. But, if the latter, then CIG shouldn't be pointing at it as a burden or crutch when explaining why they don't want to dabble with concept ships THAT WERE ALREADY SOLD rather than make totally new ones.

    • @Haegemon
      @Haegemon Месяц назад

      Exactly that. Features were added on the run. Early ships didn't have physicalized components because that wasn't a think originally. Players could customize their ships through a menu insead of literally having the component behind a panel that you can open to remove the component. Fuel resuply exactly the same. You can now fill your tank with a menu, but it has to become physical like in Squadron42 where dudes fill your tank with a pipe, so ships not used in Squadron need to be edited so these can have an intake. And later programmers are needed to make it work, you know, actual ships have showers but these are yet unfunctional because the gameplay related to that is not coded nor completely figured in the Gameplay Creative Department.

    you've got medbeds, introducing respawn to improve player retention because nobody likes hopping into game and having to quantum for 10 minutes to get back with your squad and people are complaining, seems lame on the keyboard warriors front, not only that they've got the ship engineering resource dependent game loop, everyone whining about doasm and yet nobody see's how simple it would be to make medbeds resource dependent by forking the engineering resource feature and making it apply to medbeds in the future if you wanted to, instead of fuses you'd be swapping out 'serum' or whatever and imposing respawn limits on medbed tiers.

    Hate to say it but I wonder how long this game would have taken a large AAA Company if they had 650 mil and no pressure from share holders etc. I think this would have taken 10 years with maybe 7 star systems or more. I also wonder how experienced the software engineers, network engineers and coders are, so much has broken for 3.23.1 cargo containers disappear so I cant trust them, but ship inventories have taken a huge hit so cant even move my things to a station easily (maybe take 15-20 runs lol). Oh and calling up ships for them to disappear and have to be insurance claimed, and in Orison cannot take off with the Corsair... I really think for CIG to reach 1.0 they will need 15-20 Years (if of course they can get funding for that long), and I doubt they will be able to have all players in the same Universe, meshing will make things better for 100 players per server is my prediction sadly. Anyway good to see a down to earth streamer being honest. Keep up the great work good Sir! o7

    Honestly, for how frustrating the ship sale focus model has been. How would have the game looked in an alternate universe where they focused on gameplay. They build the gameplay first. No one pledges to support the game because it takes 5 years to make the gameplay and they run out of money. CiG ceases to exist and we get no star citizen. We have to remember there were 0 investors for a long time at CiG. They did it crowd funded. They had to sell ships, to make the software. They got millions of ppl on board. And now they are delivering gameplay. Is it unorthodox? Absolutely. Definitely different from what we’re used to. But this isn’t EA Bethesda or Ubisoft. They didn’t have the funds to make gameplay first then player experience second. They had to bring in money through amazing visuals and cool ships. Then give those players something to do once they are already invested and have skin in the game. This is kind of how it had to be. Now that they are pivoting we know they understand backers are getting tired of no gameplay. They definitely dragged on way too long with the ship sale system. They should have pivoted to gameplay years ago. But they are finally starting to deliver. And quickly.

    1:13:17 You're not wrong, but this isn't just a CIG issue, it goes pretty deep actually.
    Gamers in general have become unbelievably jaded and cynical, and the culture is volatile af. Just look at the backlash of gamers actually attacking individual devs at Arrowhead over a decision that Sony made to require players adhere to the stated policies when they bought HD2. Not even about MTX or anything else, just "I didn't read the fine print when I clicked Accept so I shouldn't have to follow through." Whatever side you land on it's obviously ridiculous to react the way people did, and the "we won" ending is just training gamers to be even more toxic.
    John Crewe recently was hospitalized with a life threatening ulcer, yet backers are still asking the dude directly "BMM when?" and you straight up call the guy a liar in this video. How about stop childishly pointing the finger at "evil" and "predatory" marketing depts and "lying" devs and learn how to act like a human being ffs.

    While I understand why you think that the argument of redoing something should be less work than restarting, @saltemikereacts, I don't think you're really giving it an honest look. Be honest, if a teacher asks you to redo your homework, are you going to immediately actualy start from scratch or are you going to look at your previous work that you did, try to figure out what you did wrong, and then try to fix it, copying part of what you did before. You won't know how much you have to redo and if it's just better to scrap the project and restart until you actually look at the project. And any work you do to re-analyze what you did is 'wasted' work that is getting you nowhere. It's something you just have to do.
    Add to this the fact that the assets are older, that whoever is touching it might be a new person, or so out of practice and unfamiliar, that they have to re-learn what everything is. Imagine opening an older video project and trying to re-acclimate which timelines or layers are what.
    It makes absolute sense why taking a look back and updating older assets would take more time.

    no mike, they are not contradicting themselves, you are just conflating two different things:
    Getting an old ship through the pipeline means adjusting it to modern standards while still preserving the original artists vision, because that is what has been sold to the customers, finding space and preserving the shape for all these new panels, ship components, access hatches, etc.
    Creating a new variant of a recently completed ship means making smaller adjustments on an already created piece of work, that has recently already been adjusted and looked through by someone propably more experienced with Star Citizens considerations and requirements than the person creating the variant.
    These are two totally different things, and you conflating those makes me sad.

    Gameplay absolutely doesn't sell. All the examples you and the chat gave are outliers. 95% of games don't make nearly as much as SC does per month. EVE in its best year made half of what SC did the same year. And EVE is considered a fairly successful game.
    Also Valheim, etc - hard to tell what sold them, gameplay or visuals.
    Gameplay is very risky and I wouldn't bet on the idea that SC would make so much more money if they would make an actual game. For starters - what game? Of all the games CIG have promised. If CIG would make the game they wouldn't be able to run marketing smoke&mirrors promising everything - people would see the actual game and judge it for what it is and not for what it might be
