All genuinely good points. But if the "assault" is not good for cargo hauling is the deal breaker. They're very much able to say. Yeah that's why it's the assault, it's clearly for sustaining vehicle operations. I can't believe they put this on sale, when GVs aren't great and the systems that is supports aren't fully ready. But we can't get basic missions because they can't do more complex ones "because systems". That's what annoys me, we can pay for an unready ship for unready gameplay, but they won't give us basic gameplay because more advanced systems aren't ready.
Javelin is a sq 42 ship, you won't even see all of it (internals) until they release sq 42, same with other ships of the line, they want tthese ships to be a surprise for people.
there is a video that shows both interior and exterior in white box, both assault and standard have front and retracting roof, the assault also had a repair bay. This can be used as a small carrier for either ground or fighters or cargo.
Hmm. This is a pretty good idea actually. I have a Caterpillar, and randomly have an M2 to Liberator CCU. Might as well upgrade the Cat to an M2, then pick up the $5 Assault CCU as well. I'll make the choice of which to upgrade the M2 to once one or both are flyable. In the mean time I'll have a significantly more capable ship to cruise around in. Thanks for posting!
I love seeing you excited, Mike! For the Ironclad and the Kraken… 2026. They’ll do it after the RSI cap ship sprint. The only thing that might step on that, I think, is the Liberator.
I wonder if they will finish up the entire RSI ship lineup before moving on to Drake? (Apollo, Galaxy, Perseus, Arrastra, Connie (Gold Standard) possibly the Orion? etc.)
I think there is a good case to be made where this ship comes out sooner rather than later. I am not one to overestimate CIG, but to be entirely fair Drake Interplanetary is the Taco Bell of SC. It’s the same ingredients presented in different formats. I legit don’t think there are that many proprietary parts needed to build this ship. It is in the same ballpark as the caterpillar in terms of size, it’s mainly just wider. Not only that, but most of the ship is empty space, the layout is simple, and stylistically it is simpler than something like the Corsair since it is literally a flying brick. I know you scoffed when they said that building this will make the Kraken easier, but if there is any brand that is true for, it is Drake. The way their ships are built now is very modular (not in the sense of the feature ‘modularity’), at least more so than any other manufacturer. I believe it is entirely possible that the reason this ship came to exist as a concept is because someone at CIG realized that the carrack is not a good ship for pirates in 4.0 operating in Pyro and they were like “shit how can we crank out a carrack-sized pirate ship really quickly” and they landed on a giant empty brick (which is pretty cool). It also would make sense that they want to update the caterpillar with modularity soon since they have been working on bringing that feature into the game, and so they need to develop the command module tech anyways. Maybe this is just another infinite waiting period, but I really think this ship is kinda necessary in a system like Pyro and I’m sure they recognize that.
If you are a cargo runner odds are you are loading/unloading from pads and hangars. Meaning you are going to be using the ramp to move cargo through. The only time the retractable roof would be useful is for sweeping up floating cargo in zero G (pirating).
@XquizitRush that would imply the cargo is in the air based on where the tractors are located. Mules and the "hover cart" (shown previously in the supply elevator videos) would be ground and hanger loading. Where are the MPUT and tractor beams on the Ironclad would be for unloading the Hull series for planet side shipments
If the roof isnt retractable on the assault they need to turn it in to a landing pad, with a ladder down to repair and refuel center for repairing smallish ships too. If you have a C2 and want the IC just get the CCU for it and dont apply it and wait till the thing comes out then apply it then. By 1.0 Q4 2025, Q1 2026.
@SaltEMike [question] Speaking of cargo, do you know what the plan is for the Carrack and 3.23 manual cargo loading and unloading? How is that going to be possible? There are no doors that are big enough for cargo; there are no lifts/elevators in the cargo pods. Will the Carrack cargo remain 'auto' or will its cargo space simply cease to be usable?
hopefully it doesn't take that long to make since 80% of it's volume is split between being completely inaccessible to the player (like all the thrusters and middle area that the roof slides into) or is just the giant empty box on the front.
Fortified ramp makes sense for a combat drop ship. Troops inside need as much of a chance as possible to liveduring the landing. If you could just hammer through the ramp you would kill everything in the hold.

About the same size as a Liberator, which needs only 1- 2 crew members, with 400 cargo and the capability to hull more cargo in the vehicle loading area.
@@XquizitRush the liberator is meant to be able to carry ships, ground vehicles, personell (16 jumpseats) and cargo at the same time. Even if you fill up the entire internal hangar section with cargo or double the amount of Novas the Ironclad can carry you still have the upper landing pads available to you. That said, the Ironclad itself has significantly better defensive capabilities while you can always argue that bringing your own fighters as escorts are usually the better choice.
if you zoom in on both ironclads in that pdf, you can clearly see the two grav turrets on the base model and them missing on the assault variant... kind of worrying
Bought a CCU from C2 to a Fatterpillar, but did not apply. I did get a Ironchad straight out though as the assault/bigger vehicle/repair/refuel/crafting part looks good for slightly less CCU of storage.
The whole idea of concept sales is so stupid to me. It's like paying somebody in full before building a house. If you're lucky enough that they don't just run off with the money, the project will be finished by means of cutting corners and sloppy half-assed work. Oh wait that's exactly what we have happening in SC. Weird.
You're spoiled and deluded because you've forgotten how hard game design is and how complex sc is. Games already better than star field and no man's sky, how high are your expectations for a game this complex, this early into development?
@dylancrosby2451 Starfield yes. NMS is way more fun. Less time sink bs getting in the way of everything. The complexity of the project doesn't make paying in full up front not a stupid idea. You gave me an entire paragraph of non-sequitur. Thanks I guess
@@aguy446 They need money some how. You had more fun in nms because it's a finished game with a story... that doesn't mean the actual product is better than sc because sc has much more potential, more mechanics and a much larger and more complex game overall, it's just missing the story and like base building and such. Anyone who has played the games can clearly see that sc has a much larger ceiling for potential than nms simply because the game is complex. It will take a long time to develop, they need to pay for things somehow, you don't have to buy the $400 ship you can just play the game.... everyone knows this but you.
@dylancrosby2451 People that builds houses have to make money too. Somehow they do. It's a miracle since according to you paying in advance is the only way
to be honest, it is not even that big and the majority of it is used up by the cargodeck, so they can probably salvage a lot of assets from ships like the cat since even the command module is straight up taken from it.
I really wish ground vehicles had more weight to them. They feel like they just tip over at the slightest bump, like even at NB spaceport they just bounce everywhere. If they were better at going over bumps instead of flying, and you could control the speed of them and they had better handling it would be SOOOO much better.
When these big events come excited for what they're going to offer, and I hate myself. 😆 Thankfully I'm too poor to buy anything big. The Nursa is about the size that I can afford.
I'm 95% certain the Marketing team makes the brochure and store features, and are at least a week separated from the latest information coming out of Design and the Pipeline team(s). So there's disconnects between what features the ship actually has vs. what John Crewe might say it has; e.g. the IC Assault has jumpseats on utility mounts per the brochure, does that mean the jumpseats can be exchanged with other utility mount items or is that just where the Marketing team put the utility item?
Quick note, you stated you will wait until they mention the retractable roof, I don't think you need to wait, the viewing and controls for the tractor beams is located above the roof, it will be a bit inconsistent to place something they mention will be used to view and manage the cargo bed on top of a solid piece of metal like the roof.
Look at the specs, and pictures... There are no tractor beams shown on the assault variant, and it's not listed. The former "tractor beam control room" has become just an observation deck for loading vehicles, I suppose.
I did the same. Got the base model and waiting to see more details on the assault version. Assault needs and opening roof and be able to repair refuel ships and ground vehicles.
I think it will be out in 2 yrs tops. Lots of Cutlass, Corsair, and Caterpillar assets in the concept mesh. Using these parts will speed up time to release.
The Assault will be able to open the top door, but there will be no tractor beam and the component fabricator can only produce level 0 components, which is only used for ground vehicles.

I just upgraded my Hull D to a Polaris and that is the last jpg I'm buying from CIG. I've got 2 other high priced Capital ship jpgs and that's 2 too many. I like the Ironclad concept but I'm holding strong here on out.
PSA: Ironclad Assault does not have the retractable cargo bay look at the spec sheet on the Ironclad the "cargo one" on the interior cross section is says "TOP OPENING/CARGO BAY" The ironclad Assault does not just says cargo bay so if those that WANT TO spend money buy the cargo one and earn the assault in game in 5 years when it comes out
My challenge for myself is going to be starting with a fresh account, Cutter, and work my way up to buying an Ironclad in game. The Assault seems viable as a supplement to the base building, epically if I can have NPC turret gunners and crew while I build a base, Transport vehicles, and so on. With life support and engineering, and ships needing support, and transport when they get broken down, the assault becomes more viable beyond cargo purposes.
I broke down too. not only did I not spend any new money but I also ended up with more credits! I did go Assault version but I am also under the assumption the roof still opens.
Much as I want the ship, it really has nothing for me. I mostly solo, and the size is directly comparable to the Liberator I already own. Would I trade my Liberator for a flying warehouse to hold either cargo or ships in covered parking? Yes, but only if I could keep the same crew requirement.
The assault is good but the base iron clad has more cargo room which means a higher and faster turn over of profit. Not by a crazy amount but every little helps.
Everything else aside - this ship looks great. Imagine watching this coming down towards you through atmosphere. I got the minimum available CCU with store credit so I at least have it if I really want it after everything cools down :-)
Mike, the Assault isn't a cargo ship. It's a drop ship. I wanted really much the Assault, but I think I'll go for the standard, for that opening top. I think Q&A will appear AFTER the sale.
The ramp is more fortified so that it'll do more physics damage to you when you trip on it. The skins and paints are cool for now, I have no doubt there'll be like 47 new paints once it is flight ready. Assuming it goes live at DefenseCon 2955-2959, I would not be surprised to get either a Meridian, Solar Wind, or Blackbeard paint for it at Pirate Week, then Ghoulish Green for DotV, and, let's face it, it'll probably clean house at BIS that year against the 890.
I am in the same boat as you, I spent as much as I wanted on the game, and any ships ive gotten since have been through store credit. I got the Ironclad today, having the caterpillar as a loaner for now is nice, but I know it isnt going to come out anytime soon, its so sad.
I just bought the Concierge paint so I can earn the ship. I really like the Ironclad Assault. I'm big on ground vehicle warfare. It's cheaper in-game currently to use ground vehicles to roll into quite a few missions especially when low on defensive crew, some ground missions get random air reinforcement that often time destroy your ship while you down on foot. I tend to leave my ship at a distance and roll up in various vehicles that are cheaper to field, repair, and faster to replace. If a ground vehicle gets destroyed it's not that much of a pain especially if your using the Carrack to respawn with spare vehicles waiting in the distance.
06:30 - It works unless they say it doesnt. Recent history shows us that Marketing at CIG does not talk to the Devs. The best examples the Nursa advertisement of 1000 respawns for the character, followed by a video of the Devs reinforcing "Death of a Spaceman". Marketing has to sell both Ironclads; job good. Same thing in real life with cars, base models are advertised with dumb shit like A/C, but that doesn't mean that the higher models remove it. 2026 - November
Also have not given them money since around 2017. I've been swapping around my store credit for various ships since then. Just upgraded my touring 600i (still have my explorer 600i) to get the base ironclad and bought a CCU to the assault, in case they give me a reason to want it. It looks like the assault is nothing but a front ramp vehicle transport. No tractors. Everything in the documentation points to it having no openable roof (whereas they specifically call that out for the base). Agree that without that openable roof, the assault is not worth it. I would go for it just based on the additional guns and the refit/rearm bay....but without that roof, no f'ing way.

@@TheLoneLlama I still like my galaxy but 1500 scu with a potential scu of 3000 is kinda crazy
I swore to myself no more new JPEG until my javelin is delivered
Javelin is a sq 42 ship, you won't even see all of it (internals) until they release sq 42, same with other ships of the line, they want tthese ships to be a surprise for people.
For comparison:
Baldur's Gate 3 - 65 bucks
Homeworld 3 - 65 bucks
Kerbal Space Program - 40 bucks
Cheapest SC starter kit - 45 bucks
Virpil Constellation Alpha Prime Stick with WarBRD-D base - 470 bucks
there is a video that shows both interior and exterior in white box, both assault and standard have front and retracting roof, the assault also had a repair bay. This can be used as a small carrier for either ground or fighters or cargo.
Would be so weird if they made the giant functioning doors just not work just on the assault version.
I bought €5 ccu from M2 to Ironclad Assault to keep it's price.
Haha, "I convinced myself", it was only a matter of time Mike...
Thanks for the transparency, at least you could just melt to get it.
(Apollo, Galaxy, Perseus, Arrastra, Connie (Gold Standard) possibly the Orion? etc.)
@@zantrag I think that would grind out the creativity. I bet they'll do the Galaxy and the Apollo, and maybe the Perseus.
How many tie figh... I mean furys can one fit inside? Just asking for a friend.
I recon mid 2026 for release - bought the $5 M2 CCU.
If you are a cargo runner odds are you are loading/unloading from pads and hangars. Meaning you are going to be using the ramp to move cargo through. The only time the retractable roof would be useful is for sweeping up floating cargo in zero G (pirating).
I'm pretty sure you will be loading the ship on the ground with the tractor beams through the roof. The ramp is for ground vehicles.
Hahaha don't worry bro I had to come up with a good excuse to buy one too so i didn't feel guilty XD No one is judging bro we've all been there
If the roof isnt retractable on the assault they need to turn it in to a landing pad, with a ladder down to repair and refuel center for repairing smallish ships too.
> Looks at +400$ pledge (not DLC)
ohmagad a 20$ pledge (not DLC), they are crasy
This is where we are, this is who we are
hopefully it doesn't take that long to make since 80% of it's volume is split between being completely inaccessible to the player (like all the thrusters and middle area that the roof slides into) or is just the giant empty box on the front.
Fortified ramp makes sense for a combat drop ship. Troops inside need as much of a chance as possible to liveduring the landing. If you could just hammer through the ramp you would kill everything in the hold.
Sadly with only the one ramp, troops and armor are DOA anyway. At least the Valk had 3 exits.
@eggertime you not wrong, maybe the heavy fire from turrets and escorts it will be more reasonable
Do you have a video of you talking about the failings of the mining ship arrastra?
saltemike-"thats me!, that sounds like me!"
CIG- GOTCHA B%&*H!
Thank you for your support mike. thank you for what you do on here and the time you sacrifice to bring us news, opinions, and ..... personality? it aint looks im sure.
About the same size as a Liberator, which needs only 1- 2 crew members, with 400 cargo and the capability to hull more cargo in the vehicle loading area.
The Liberator is wider and meant to carry ships. The Ironclad is meant to only carry ground units.
The top door appears to still function on the Iron Ass, but the tractor beams have been deleted.
if you zoom in on both ironclads in that pdf, you can clearly see the two grav turrets on the base model and them missing on the assault variant... kind of worrying
Weird.
Your complaint is 10 years too late.
It's a miracle since according to you paying in advance is the only way
I would probably faint if they make us all look dumb and just release it at IAE
All they need is a digital "stretching" tool, which I'm sure they have, and add a few greebles, a ramp and hinges.
to be honest, it is not even that big and the majority of it is used up by the cargodeck, so they can probably salvage a lot of assets from ships like the cat since even the command module is straight up taken from it.
Can I fix a Herald instead of the standard cockpit? I like to get away in style and fast if I get boarded :D
Good catch on warning people about the potential of the Ironclad Assault not having the door. They definitely need to confirm or deny that ASAP.
Even if it does have the door, what good is it without the tractor beams that it seemingly doesn't have?
@@Gofr5 just use the hand tool.
@tentacle_love Yeah in space perhaps. Not on the ground in gravity though.
@@Gofr5 armored pocket carrier
I really wish ground vehicles had more weight to them. They feel like they just tip over at the slightest bump, like even at NB spaceport they just bounce everywhere. If they were better at going over bumps instead of flying, and you could control the speed of them and they had better handling it would be SOOOO much better.
I wish the Tumbril Storm tanks had a floating suspension, as the design would indicate. They ride stiff as a board.
When these big events come excited for what they're going to offer, and I hate myself. 😆 Thankfully I'm too poor to buy anything big. The Nursa is about the size that I can afford.
Drake: "You don't need an hangar for your ship, you need a ship WITH an hangar"
6:50 - they said in the last ISC about the ship that both roofs will open!
I did the same. Got the base model and waiting to see more details on the assault version. Assault needs and opening roof and be able to repair refuel ships and ground vehicles.
They say nothing about repairing and refueling ships, only ground vehicles. I don't think that is going to change.
Looking at all of this for the Ironclad has me wondering one thing. What do you think will be in game first, the Ironclad or the Banu Merchantman?
I think it will be out in 2 yrs tops. Lots of Cutlass, Corsair, and Caterpillar assets in the concept mesh. Using these parts will speed up time to release.
The Assault will be able to open the top door, but there will be no tractor beam and the component fabricator can only produce level 0 components, which is only used for ground vehicles.
FOR! THE! STREAM!!! We appreciate your sacrifice Mike
Well Mike, it's you and me both who caved 🤣🤣
but why not be able to swap out an interior remote turret for a remote tractor?
11:10 Such is the rule on the FiveM server where RolePlay is played. Before I opened my server, I played on one and was a donor. With those donations, for example, you get a vehicle or a house of your choice, when you want to change, you write a ticket and ask them to delete it (remove it from the server) and put something else that you want
no retractable roof on the assault?
so the assult does lose the tractor beam? thats what i was worried about
@SaltEMike why not buy the $10 Prowler to Ironclad or the $5 M2 to Ironclad Assault?
I just upgraded my Hull D to a Polaris and that is the last jpg I'm buying from CIG. I've got 2 other high priced Capital ship jpgs and that's 2 too many. I like the Ironclad concept but I'm holding strong here on out.
That's more or less exactly what I said.... twenty ships ago. lol.
The Assault is a dropship? Why do you want to cargo it? The vanilla one is cargo. Use that. So no Valkyrie or Hornet for cargo hauling?
PSA: Ironclad Assault does not have the retractable cargo bay look at the spec sheet
on the Ironclad the "cargo one" on the interior cross section is says "TOP OPENING/CARGO BAY"
The ironclad Assault does not just says cargo bay
so if those that WANT TO spend money
buy the cargo one
and earn the assault in game
in 5 years when it comes out
It looks like they're quite a way along with whitebox, as we saw more of the interior of this, than we did the Polaris.
My challenge for myself is going to be starting with a fresh account, Cutter, and work my way up to buying an Ironclad in game. The Assault seems viable as a supplement to the base building, epically if I can have NPC turret gunners and crew while I build a base, Transport vehicles, and so on. With life support and engineering, and ships needing support, and transport when they get broken down, the assault becomes more viable beyond cargo purposes.
do you think the BMM will come our before or after the Ironclad??
Sick NFT bro. Enjoy!
Im going to flip this in a few years for a HUGE profit just watch...
Hahaha crytech you are so funny lols
little larger than a football field smaller than a Nimitz-class Aircraft carrier or the USS Enterprise (the nuclear wessel featured in Star Trek IV)
I wouldn't think too deeply into the Assault, it's a variant, but I can understand the use of caution if the top doors are a non-negotiable for some.
the real question is why would any cargohauler go for a ground assault variant that sacrifices 1/3rd of your cargo capacity to begin with.
Look, idk how they do it there at cig. But god damn their good at making me want to spend huge amounts of money I don’t have on a freaking JPG.
On the bright side, you can pay for it with your CitizenCon cheque
The assault is good but the base iron clad has more cargo room which means a higher and faster turn over of profit. Not by a crazy amount but every little helps.
Is there no tractor beams on the assault?
Can’t tell
If the fabrication station is not in the base model, I wonder where it will go
In fairness, could dump cargo on the Idris Flight Deck all the same.
Would you rather they improve the Oth each ship they make, or intentionally make these ships worse so the other of ones don’t seem underpowered?
Everything else aside - this ship looks great. Imagine watching this coming down towards you through atmosphere. I got the minimum available CCU with store credit so I at least have it if I really want it after everything cools down :-)
Can't wait till it releases and you see everyone flying around in it for two weeks and then we all forget about it.
Mike, the Assault isn't a cargo ship. It's a drop ship. I wanted really much the Assault, but I think I'll go for the standard, for that opening top. I think Q&A will appear AFTER the sale.
34 jumpseats? That's 1/3rd of the entire server :/
Salty "I am mad as hell and I can't take this anymore!" Mike.
Why not just use the 10 dollar ccu upgrade from the prowler? You dont need to melt much for that
I just bought the Concierge paint so I can earn the ship.
Don't Worry Mike we're all that idiot
