Re: Lucky/Unlucky. I got hit by a car in Japan several years ago. I was running through the crosswalk at a light as the Walk light was flashing green. Some woman in a car came up to the intersection and made the turn right (they drive on the opposite side of the street in Japan) in my direction. I had the right of way, so I kept running. As I got to the halfway mark, I realized that instead of slowing down to stop for me, she was speeding up and staring at the dashboard instead of the street. I was just about to step in front of the car and couldn't stop running in time. I slammed my hands out and caught the corner of the hood just above the headlight. The impact threw me 10 feet, and I skidded on the street, getting road rash on my right elbow, hand and knee, and sandpapering off the top of my left sneaker over the knuckle of my big toe. The impact bruised my chest muscles for 2 weeks. The main thing was that when I went flying, my left foot flew up and smashed her passenger mirror off the car, breaking one of the long bones in my foot. She was under-insured. Her insurance company paid for my taxi fare to and from work while I was in a cast, and for the hospital visits. But, at the end, all I got was 500,000 yen (a little under $5,000) for "pain and suffering." It took 3 months for the bone to heal to where I could start walking on that foot again. Asking the "lucky/unlucky" question - "Would I be willing to be shot in the arm, instead of being hit by a car? And is $5,000 worth all of the hassle and pain?" "Nope." It might be one thing for a simple flesh wound, but if the bullet shattered the bone, $5,000 wouldn't even cover rehab therapy. This isn't just "unlucky", it's potentially permanently crippling. Add a few more zeros at the end, and we can talk.

In between you have instructions to clap your hands. Sing a song, run a lap around the table, draw shapes on different places on the paper and so on.

Are you kidding? I get paid a lot of money (ok, not an amazing amount or anything but still, significant enough for me to do something cool with) AND I get a cool story to tell all my friends. I might even get a scar. I'd consider that a pretty lucky experience.
Of course where I live the bank would not care one iota if I got shot on their premises so it would be slightly less lucky.
Edit: Brian, you are my spirit animal.

This reminds me of a Scene in the film 'Fulltime Killer', where assassins would receive information about their next job by finding small ads from two different newspapers(printed in the same place in both papers I.e. the bottom corner of the 9th page) and take alternating words from those ads to reveal the message.

  • @TheAttacker732

    Sidenote on lucky vs unlucky:
In the US, it would really hang on whether your insurance or Medicare covered your bills. Or if the bank's liability(?)/business(?) insurance covered your bills. I don't know many people that would be positive over getting shot, getting paid ~$6.8k, and then having the relevant insurance tell them to kick rocks. Like, if you get to keep the money, that's debatably a decent experience. If you get strongarmed out of that money afterwards, that's overwhelmingly negative and you got kicked while you were down.

idk if it has been done yet but a wilderness survival expert could take yall out for a week and yall could learn actual survival skill or even put the ones you have learned to the test and see how they react. They could modify yalls technique and you can breakup each day into individual episodes like a series. Survivorman style!

I like to think I can think about things realistically instead of more lucky than unlucky. In the bank scenario, sure the chance that I got shot was very unlucky, but it was an easy injury that I even get compensated for and end up positively down the line.

Given that they're pounds, that means you have the NHS and being shot doesn't mean you go bankrupt. In the US > unlucky, everywhere else in the developed world > Lucky.

Being shot isn’t lucky for anybody... you’re still injured, in pain, and most likely traumatized

Have you thought about combining a lot of these 'leaving hidden messages/contraband' and 'signalling with mirrors' ideas into a Modern Rogue treasure hunt thing, kind of like Trent Reznor's ideas promoting 'Year Zero' - hiding USB drives in bathrooms at gigs with instructions to the next set of clues or coordinates, leading you to a place or URL?... obviously once this modern plague is under control, of course.
Could be a good way to get people back outside again and using some of these ideas from the videos.

My arm muscles can't be compensated with a mere $5000! Totally depends on the person though and how much they value their arms. But then is being lucky mean not heaving much use for the full strength of their arms? I guess in the case of an armed robbery and being shot in one, yes.
