Joe Walsh was (and has been) an accomplished artist. When he see him singing and playing wih The Eagles it is obvious he could lead a show on his own, he joined the Eagles probably because he did not want to play alone, to perform alone.... but he could have done it any time. He was already a complete artist when he joined the Eagles... and he became a great Eagle. Love your music, Joe Walsh. :)

If you want to know who to blame for why the Eagles eventually broke up just watch the faces of the band members during this song. --Glen Frey is loving every minute of this song--he is thrilled that someone else (Joe Walsh) is getting their jam on, and he's just jamming along. --Don Felder is loving every minute, basking in the talent of his fellow band members, and providing excellent, measured, and artistic background guitar. --Randy Meisner is plucking along, laying the bass groove in his own inimitable way, smiling and enjoying himself the entire time. --But Don Henley looks like he's having a root canal. You can literally see how it causes him not just mental and emotional stress that someone else is the feature for a few minutes, but is PHYSICALLY hurts him that he's not the center of attention. Henley was a narcissistic sociopath, and the reason this group went through so many staff changes over the years, and eventually broke up.
To be honest, he looks the same during Take it to the Limit from the same concert. He and Fry are both to blame, though. Both egotistical and unwilling to acknowledge the contributions of everyone else in the band.

Joe’s solo and James Gang songs were the only times in the set list that Joe and the rest of the band was allowed to go off and jam, other than that Glenn believed people came to shows to hear the band be as faithful as possible to the album cuts on the Eagles songs which is totally fine, nothing wrong with a band being so tight and having their stuff so well mastered that they sound like the albums, but when it’s Joe Walsh’s turn for center stage, you let him go off and do whatever he wants!
Joe Walsh brought the rock image and sound to the Eagles! Having Joe play his solo career and James Gang songs at these concerts brought in so many more fans to the Eagles.

First concert I saw was James Gang in 1971 at St. Joseph College gymnasium in Philadelphia, blew me away. After the concert they asked us to help load their equipment up. Alas, one in our group didn't want to help. Missed an opportunity to meet and party with Joe at my first concert!

I was totally in love with this man in 1977. He's great, I was lucky enough to see every Eagle member in 1994. Great show, I had 4th row center stage.

didn't realize what I was seeing in 1972 when I saw James gang live! he was wild and crazy and great. 50 years later still love to listen to him play.

First concert I saw was James Gang in 1971 at St. Joseph College gymnasium in Philadelphia, blew me away. After the concert they asked us to help load their equipment up. Alas, one in our group didn't want to help. Missed an opportunity to meet and party with Joe at my first concert!
