- Led Zeppelin's 1977 North American Tour was the eleventh and final concert tour of North America by the English rock band. The tour was divided into three legs, with performances commencing on 1 April and concluding on 24 July 1977. The tour was originally intended to finish on 13 August, but was cut short following the death of vocalist Robert Plant's son. t least three indoor concerts from this tour (at Pontiac on 30 April, Houston on 21 May and Seattle on 17 July) were professionally filmed by the TV International company for the band and projected live on to a giant video screen.[4] None of these performances have been officially released, and to date, only the Seattle video has been made available on unofficial Led Zeppelin bootleg recordings. When reviewing material for the Led Zeppelin DVD in 2003, some 1977 footage was considered, but ultimately only a small clip of Bonham's drumming from the Seattle show is shown during the DVD credits.
The basic set list for the tour was:
"The Song Remains the Same" (Page, Plant)
"The Rover" (intro)/"Sick Again" (Page, Plant)
"Nobody's Fault but Mine (Page, Plant)
"In My Time of Dying" (Page, Plant, Bonham, Jones) or "Over the Hills and Far Away" (Page, Plant)*
"Since I've Been Loving You" (Page, Plant, Jones)
"No Quarter" (Page, Plant, Jones)
"Ten Years Gone" (Page, Plant)
"The Battle of Evermore" (Page, Plant) (With John Paul Jones on vocals, singing Sandy Denny's parts from the studio version.)
"Going to California" (Page, Plant)
"Dancing Days" (Page, Plant) (on 26th May and 27th June only)
"Black Country Woman" (Page, Plant) / "Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp" (Page, Plant, Jones)
"White Summer"/"Black Mountain Side" (Page)
"Kashmir" (Bonham, Page, Plant)
"Out on the Tiles" (intro)/"Over the Top"/"Moby Dick" (Page, Jones, Bonham)
"Guitar Solo" (Page) / "Star Spangled Banner"
"Achilles Last Stand" (Page, Plant)
"Stairway to Heaven" (Page, Plant)
Encores typical of the first leg of the tour:
"Rock and Roll" (Page, Plant, Jones, Bonham)
"Trampled Under Foot" (Page, Plant, Jones)
Encores typical of the second and third leg:
"Whole Lotta Love" (Introduction) (Bonham, Dixon, Jones, Page, Plant)
"Rock and Roll" (Page, Plant, Jones, Bonham)
Other encores played occasionally:
"Heartbreaker" (Bonham, Page, Plant)
"Black Dog" (Page, Plant, Jones)
"It'll Be Me" (Clement)
"Communication Breakdown" (Bonham, Jones, Page)
Jimmy page is amazing and will always be one of the greatest guitarist of all times!!!!🎸🤩
Jimmy an dave gilmore my 2 best of all time
This was the only Zeppelin show that I ever attended and it has left an Impression on me ever since!
The whole Zeppelin thing just exploded days later with bad vibes in Oakland and then Robert's Son dying. Things would NEVER be the same...In some ways this was their Grand Finale....The whole show was Totally Amazing!!!
A package of sheer talent we will never see again!!!
All of them !!!
OMG this song is one of the most beautiful things in the world 😍
Great Jimmy!!! You are the coolest guitar ever!!!
Simply.... WOW. Once again Jimmy is giving those guitar strings a hell of a work out. Amazing!
+5954ldydi hhaha... you have no clue, have you? I have no words to describe how sloppy page is ...
+Hodnisguitar The sound quality is putting you off and the general cliché that Jimmy was shit from 1975 onwards which he was certainly not at his best because he was messed up on heroin but he pulled it off well sometimes like his one
@@obhmusic wa wa wa
Led Zeppelin is like “ The promised land “ of all the Rock 🪨’roll & Blues lovers ❤️💜 over the entire WORLD 🌎!!!! Me myself I feel so much sorrow that I couldn’t see them live at least 100 💯 times !!!
I just love how they organically flow during the solo. It's majestic.
It is beautiful
In all Plant's dissing of the song, which I know he feels is the voice of his younger less sophisticed self coupled with the resentment of the large shadow the song casts. There is much beauty here and all that is lost with his emotional reaction to it. I've always felt this was Jimmy's piece. The solo is the centerpiece and Jimmy puts the words he would or could never say into his solo. It's an emotional tour de force live - JIMMY's emotional tour de force.
One of the ARMS show from 1983 (I think London? where he almost whacks Clapton with the doubleneck), his solo is wounded, it's something to behold.
Stephanie Sandlin His solo conveys Jimmy's emotions and what he is going through at that point in life, the ARMS solo shows a damaged drug reliant alcoholic and and if you really listen to them all you can feel what they mean, Jimmy's solo is sometimes all I fast forward to hear and Robert knows his singing is not the very important part so he dislikes it
Bonham is on fire here. There's just so much aggression in the way he's playing.
Platinumsfex, Bonham had aggression because he was needing an infusion of pu**y
Just one dislike would prove that Led Zeppelin are truly the greatest rock group of all time but I am not going to be the one to press it.
I was there, and it was epic! 20 feet from the band on the floor, sounded great.
+George Matthews haha... it sounds like a horse shitting, with distortion.
+Hodnisguitar Yes, the bootleg recordings are terrible. But I can assure you that from the floor, right in front of the band, it was fantastic to see live.
+Hodnisguitar hahhahahahhahahaha
George Matthews
Lucky you👍🎶
Jimmy really went deep on this solo. I love this version soo much.. just when you think you found all the versions of stairway live, you come across a gem like this that is completely unique of its own.... God Bless you Led Zeppelin thank you sooo very much!
There's countless live versions of it, mostly audio-only though.
8:07 That lick is pure gold
7:44 ;)
Jimmy Page has played many, many different variations of his lead in Stairway to Heaven over the years. To me this one (that he played during the 1977 tour), as well as his back and forth groove here with Bonham (along with Jones providing the melodic backing on his keyboards) , is his finest. Page was born with a feel for this music, changing up and improvising during songs in tour after tour and night after night throughout the Zeppelin years.
That's what set Zeppelin apart from the rest. I think the next closest band to their live performance was Deep Purple from the early 70's when it came to creative live performances, To expand songs Zeppelin never went along with the almost painful "sing-alongs" that some did or like the Stones, just extended songs with simple guitar licks.
+pajasa62 you guys are a different kind of special ... page is so sloppy in his playing. it drives me insane !
+Hodnisguitar We are a different kind of special. Really? Like millions and millions of others (including the president of the USA) who can recognize and compliment the fantastic musical abilities of Jimmy Page. Page writes and plays the type of songs and guitar leads that guitar players have been trying to emulate for decades. You are the green eyed kind of person who laments over Jimmy Page's worldwide recognition as being a great guitarist. A legend in Rock music. You are simply a jealous fool.
+Hodnisguitar You are right! I am a guitarist. I have seen and heard several live versions of Stairway tonight on RUclips for the first time and I am Very disappointed! I expected Jimmy to play pretty close to the original recording. I assumed he was a much better guitarist.
MICHAEL DAVIS he was and is a great musician..setting the standard for so many bands! but I find his lack of respect for his fans to be inexcusable.. taking drugs before playing live, and playing bad because of it, its just wrong.
I am still thanking God that this footage was ever saved, this has to be the most intricate, intense and beautiful example of this song, a five minute solo of pure magic, out of all the performances this one was lucky enough to have survived and it's a miracle it did with Peter Grant and it's absolutely fantastic it did
Still, what he's playing and the feeling that he's playing it with here is unbelieveable. It has more feeling than any other guitarist's solos
2023, yes I am still watching! I wonder if Jimmy Page truly knows that he is the greatest guitarist who has ever lived. No doubt in my mind, the best guitarist in the world.
He is not even close to the greatest in terms of talent. But he will always be one of the most well known.
You know a guy is the best around when even his worst lead guitar playing is still highly compelling.
one of the best performance "thats all we got left" beautiful.........
I really like this version. wow JPJ sounds really awesome on those keys and the solo is fantastic!
Beautiful. song. One of my many favorites. God bless
all of them are fuckin brilliant, i wish there was a better sound quality
poor Jimmy, that must have been a hard time for him :(
sure it was, drugs almost kill him :(
@@diegopalominoss hard drugs, psychedelic drugs are safe, just to make it clear 🍄✌
@@Lvdd he was using hard drugs though
Ladies and gentlemen, extol yourself. For you have witnessed and been party to sheer quintessential genius. Listen again for better experience.
This is one of the best Stairway solos I've seen of Jimmy. Considering that many of the performances by that time were erratic, this one is definitely superior. His solo phrasing is so good when he's on. Not as good as The Song Remains the Same and Earl's Court versions, but still awesome.
Agreed, Earl's court👊💯
This movie is amazing!!!
Jimmy's playing so wonderful
I hate when people say he doesn't play like he wrote it listen if he plays it the same every night It would be boring but giving it it's own feel makes it more unique
I was 16 years old when this was done! Awesome!
Getting back in to live Zeppelin, so glad RUclips has put up so much… never heard a Stairway version with pauses and Bonzo yelling in it… that’s awesome, showed how much fun these guys could have… just a shame it also stressed them out and resorted to some hardcore drugs
Led Zeppelin est une drogue a eux seul besoin de rien que de les voire et les entendre
Awesome!!! It's all about feeling and this version has a ton of it.
Finally, a video where John Paul Jones is recognized. I mean I love them all but he was always under spotlighted.
stunning. I don't know wtf was that sudden break towards the end of the solo but they nailed the timing in the bridge!
The verry Rock’n Roll & blues band evereeer !!! 🟪💜❤️💜❤️🟩
5:25 the most impactant moment of Rock
Damn this blows away the SRTS version. Shit.. what a great solo... Amazing gold nugget from an era where he wasn't usually this great. And Bonham is pretty damn awesome as well!
It's almost scary, but if it was not for the video screen of the Seattle Kingdom, there would be no video of the 1977 tour.
Is that a joke?
Amazing solo. Very magical.
The best Jimmy Page footage Ive ever seen . Bonzo is going apeshit . The fans must have been ecstatic .
8:49 JPJ missed it, Bonzo is not amused.
this is the best verison of this song i have ever listen..... love you
Jimmy is unbelievable!
Jimmy Page is and also was best of the best guitar 🎸 player in the whole world 🌎💜❤️💜❤️🎸🎸🤟🏿🎸🎸🔵🔵
Not even close, but certainly one of the most famous.
Part of my childhood Love this
8:50 HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Led Zeppelin MASTERPIECE!!!!!
Haha ok. I'll just leave it there. I'm glad there's still kids who idolise Jimmy. Hopefully this will still be happening when all members of Zep are long gone. Long live Zeppelin.
This is a fine solo by page. Some people will just never be satisfied. Sure he had rough spots sometimes esp. in 79 and 80 but to criticize this like it's garbage is so wrong. It moves me like pretty much all of zeppelin's stuff.
43 Years Ago Today!!!!!!!!!
Finally someone who understands that msg was edited. Although I think that Page's best solo was at the LA Forum May 31 1973
Che brano! Grandioso Sublime
what an amazing solo
DOES ANYBODY REMEMBER FORESTS?!
I laughed so freaking hard at that. My chest hurts.
I agree .. that was awesome and I haven't come across it since nor RB commenting on it through interviews .. sad really, because it was a better statement than, or at least as important as, the one about laughter.
MARAVILLOSO PAGE EN LA GUITARRA... QUEDA CLARO QUE ES UNO DE LOS MEJORES GUITARRISTAS DE LA HISTORIA SI NO EL MEJOR !!! CADA SOLO QUE ESCUCHO DE EL ES DIFERENTE!!!
Lo daban todo en cada concierto.
amazing solo.
Love that 70s keyboard sound..
especially in the 12 string section.
Is that a Fender Rhodes????
Stunning on all accounts 👊
Best Stairway Solo Ever.
3:38 "Does anybody remember forest" XD
Wow first time ive seen this concert!
out of all the live versions of stairway to heaven, this probably is the best by jimmy page
He is simply awesome
+Hodnisguitar dude, if you don't like this masterpiece it's okay, but you don't have to say him retarded...
+Alejandro Cueva
this indeed is master piece
thanks
I couldn't agree more with you, simply amazing!
To be honnest i like more the live solo on the song remain the same live album
Amazing solo also amazing solo of whole lotta love
Check it out
Me encanta este solo, si se pudiera mejorar la calidad del audio, u.u
Sir James Page was Classically Trained, not a problem.
Love to meet them
actually that solo was awesome dude
Jesus fucking christ just watch bonzo going nuts in this one....
L'assolo di questo live è veramente fantastico e anche JPJ al piano devo aggiungere..
最高😃⤴️⤴️です🎤🎸🎶ナイスミュージック🆒
Is the best band in the history!!
the greatest guitarists improvise their solos my friend
I called this or it's been considered, " the anthem of rock."
@andrea89palermo Producer Jimmy Page was unable to locate multi-track sound recordings from any 1977 shows, and it is unknown if any exist. However, portions of the Seattle video (minus audio) were used to promote the Led Zeppelin Remasters release in 1990 and some were aired as part of the special MTV Led Zeppelin documentary. In addition, parts were included in the 1997 "Whole Lotta Love" promo. from wikipedia
You're SO right!!!
The solo from this concert is absolutely stunning..
Why isn't it like the album or consistent from show to show? I dunno......maybe it's not a backing tape or he's under the influence of something.
Live shows never sound like the album.. 🤗
Because they are artists. Not robots
Does anybody remember .... forests?
Unbelievable! Almost supernatural talent. I love them then and still do. I'm a born again Christian now ... if only they realised what they were singing - or maybe they did.
8:51 aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhr !!!
Plant's Voice reaaly bas page's guitar reaaly bad Jpg keabords good Boham as always reALLY GOOD
from 6:30-6:50 you can see where slash gets his influence. Great fucking solo...
This was actually a brilliant solo...I have been so wrong
+Ryan Wittert When I first discover led zeppelin I thought that the solos in 1977 were bad, I was wrong too, if you listen carefully this a brillant one and there are many others in 1977 .
This is probably my favourite out of all its so long and different
+Sean McGeeney 1979 Knebworth is my favourite
Ellis Frank Which one?
+Sean McGeeney I think he is talking about the 08-04, the first night, the solo is much better than the next night .
love it when u can count on a drummer like bonzo to fill in for an off night for jimmy
This was no off night
Don't call it a solo, Bonzo added so much to it, and those keyboards were a nice touch too.
non è la migliore performance di questo grandissimo pezzo.
@andrea89palermo maybe Jimmy Page founded this video some years after Robert's interview. Anyway, my friend,it doesn't matter where they were that night...they are Led Zeppelin, that's all ;-)
Perfection
@shredmaster100 This is Seattle show, that's sure. I've got the entire show and during Bron-Y-Aur Stomp, Robert says: "C'mon Seattle!"...so,they were right in Seattle.
All set side, the Seattle shows are great and given their last among the last show in US....
Seattle 7/17/1973 was possibly their best show of the '73 U.S. Tour, as well as Seattle 3/21/1975 was possibly their best show from the '75 U.S. Tour. Seattle and Vancouver were two of their favorite spots to perform! I think the reason why they didn't go to Vancouver in '77 was likely to do with getting stuff across the border.. But their last U.S. show was actually in Oakland. After Seattle, they went to Tempe AZ. then played two shows in Oakland on 7/23 and 7/24.
hola amigo! saludos desde italia!
jimmy was so thin by this time, his lead got lost and he began improvising but the rhythms are amazing during the vocals and bridges, his phrasing with the 12 string is gorgeous, it's really hard to play lead guitar with that big albatross hanging around his neck, way too cumbersome for jimmy's style of lead.
also amazing is jimmy, robert, and john paul in the first half of the song, no drums or bass but they are so in synch and intricate it really brings home the amazing talent of this band.
@12jefh I cutted off this clip from a dvd called "Led Zeppelin Seattle 1977". it's very strange...
This is what makes you human being...
The best
Bonzo en la bateria solo se puede decir que, era y seguira siendo un genio con la bateria ....................
Una máquina
Honestly, if i played this solo, people would tell me it’s crap and that i need to get better.
If I could go back in time this would be the place and time .where the time machine when you need it.
This seems to be the cleanst version I have heard. usually Page is up on so much drugs he can barely play a note. No wonder why they never professionally released anything from this time.
At worst this my 4th favorite version of by far most favorite song. MSG Song Remains the Same 1, Earls Ct 2, St Valentines Day 1975 LI Colosseum 3 (from 22nd row :-) This version is really as sensational of other 3.
Awwww yeah, good ol forests
how absolutely fucking awesome is Bonham?
+Giambattista Vico JOHN HENRY BONHAM 7:33 Inventive, fantastic musician known for putting together a groove on the drums no other drummer can can match. All 3 surviving members knew after John was gone, it was over. The fantastic powerhouse of rock music known as Led Zeppelin was no more. They had closed the book, disbanded, and stopped writing songs for good as a group after Bonham died. Quite understandably so.
MSG may have been edited, but if you look up all the edits for each song on that set, you will find that Stairway to heaven uses one complete solo. the only fixes were a couple of minor notes and really would not have maken much difference. That being said i often wish they had entire songs instead of piecing the performances together.
@Mozzgobbe è così bella che non ci sono parole per descriverla...
