This is my very favorite version of Chopin's Prelude in E-m, opus 28, #4. Jimmy plays it with raw emotion, and it brings me to tears every time I hear it.
I learned this prelude for piano when I was thirteen. To hear it on an electric guitar by Jimmy Page more than 50 years later is such a different experience. Thank you for posting it.
The piece you learned on the piano was Chopin's (pronounced show-PAN). Prelude in e minor. Beautiful song. On the piano it's haunting. On the guitar, I'm NOT a Jimmy Page fan either but his version is amazing.
Jimmy deeply grieving his dear friend. Such an exquisite and sensitive soul. Grateful for the strength he showed in moving through a very dark night. A gift to us all. Love you, Jimmy.
Such an amazing guy He was in such a state when he played this. He lost zeppelin which was his life lost Bonham and Ronnie Laine and personal problems He was drowning his misery in drugs and booze. So thankful that we did not lose him too Thank god that Jimmy was saved from being another rock tragedy. Yes Jimmy was not at his best. He was broken I think all his fans can guess what kind of man he is God bless him
@@marygrace4245 what does his ideogies have anything to do with anything? And the other 3 weren't so holy they all did drugs and many other things. You want him to apologize for not being some monopolized brainwashed Christian?
I was at this concert 3 rows up on the side of the stage on Jimmy's left side, what an awesome concert, you had, Jimmy, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Kenny Jones from the Who on drums, Bill Weinman on bass, also Joe Cocker was there with numerous other musicians. It still gives me chills talking about THAT concert, I've seen the Grateful Dead over 50 times plus probably another 30 or 40 other concerts but The Arms concert was something very special
and so am . Jimmy is so.precious. He gave so much beauté to this world. His music is the only one - I don't know why - to give me strengh, joy, courage, consolation I feel him to be a mysterious, secret and also deeply human and generous. And this smile so sweet !
@moony77 idk about this specific live, but there's another performance where he's playing the same song, it was right after John Bonham died and he was in the worst condition of his career with his herion addiction.
This Chopin piano Prelude no. 4 in e minor is one of the best piano pieces ever written. It is great that Jimmy Page has choosen this music for his improvisation. The melody only consists of a few notes, but the harmonies are so rich and full of emotions. Thanks for this great video.
C'est exactement ça je suis totalement ébahie en complète pâmoison il n'y a pas de mot assez fort pour qualifier cette version tellement riche en émotions
My FIL was a concert pianist and considered a major Chopin interpreter. While Jimmy's is not the best not the cleanest version I've heard, it is far from bad.
@roseannemorales780 Well, he actually did it for his deceased friend & beloved band member John Henry Bonham because this was the first time he had picked up a guitar publicly since his passing- an incredible, heart felt expression, not to be critiqued- how can you critique such an incredible out pouring of sheer emotion? Or perhaps you weren't aware of this..in which case you shouldn't speak if you don't really know - see how you can accidentally be disrespectful trying to bag on Page - " not the cleanest, best..Sssswho the fk else has ever played it before on guitar? NOBODY- So , wrong- it IS the cleanest & best version bcuz its the only version of its kind- point being it should be appreciated, not critiqued- considering the heartwrenching circumstances -R.I.P. John Henry Bonham
@@jerald6023yeah first off this was over two years after Bonham died and Page hadn't played the guitar for those whole two years, and that's why he was sloppy and sounded like shit, I love Page and Zeppelin, but this was horrible, and do you honestly think this was the first time this piece of music had ever been performed on guitar to a live audience? Seriously? Yeah this definitely wasn't the first time this has been played on guitar live

Hi. I had a small music shop in Turkey . I used to sell music cassettes, albums. I'm 57 now. I have been listening Led Zeppelin over 40 years with the same exact joy. I even had a chance to small chit chat with them that showed me how amazingly humble they were. They were the most important famous people I met in my life. They were so normal, sincere and gentlemen. No complimants or anything. We talked for about 20-25 minutes and drank tea with Robert. After the concert was finished I tried to learn where do they would stay in.Next day I''ve found and waited by the hotel. When Robert went out I kissed him and hugged him. He Asked me about the previous day's concert performance.I said time passed so fast like a dream. I said I came about 1000 km from my town Adana to İstanbul for the concert he said please drive carrefully. I took LZ 3 LP (which I've bought and brought back to that concert) in İtaly when I was 21 y.o. in 1983 and they signed the album LZ 3 Long Play. I even had a chance to small chit chat with them that showed me how amazingly humble they were. I was waiting for Jimmy, he was crouching and shopping at a peddler who sold cheap imitation watches near the hotel street. I talked to him for 5-6 minutes. He was also gentleman, sincere like a normal person. I loved them more because they are the most important band of history (according to me) and so normal people like a teacher or friends. I am hoping that I don't die before them and they keep playing their amazing music. Lucky me. I've also met Michael Lee. RİP Michael.Lee and Bonzo. You're the greatest drummers of all. At the concert it was forbidden taking photos.Security took the film from my camera. But I've hidden another film in my socks. So I've taken many photos:) There were somebody who recorded the all the sound of the concert his hands in the air all night long. After 30 years I've found him in internet. He'll give me the recordings of the concert and I'll give him the night's photos. Life is beautiful with Led Zeppelin. İsn't it? eminelektronikadana
A snap shot of a broken man struggling back to the light.. maybe a bit too soon. So glad that Jimmy pulled through, got his guitar chops back and became curator of that magnificent legacy, Led Zeppelin.

I was at this show and it was my first time seeing him. Due to circumstances beyond my control I never saw the 4 of them together. This was an intense moment. Kicked the drugs and this was one of his first appearances after the death of Bonzo. Saw the 3 of them at Live Aid 2 years later! This was a night I’ll never forget and have seen him every time he’s come to the States since.
Kathy Young I have never seen them live as Led Zep or solo but have been a devoted fan since their first album, which is still one of rock n rolls best ever. Thanks for sharing. 🤗🤗
If he had kicked from all drugs one month before, then we aren't supposed to look his bones. And if he kicked one week before, it's unlikely he were able to show up at a public gig.

I never got to see them live, but my mom bought IV when it was released. I heard it in utero and all through infancy because she would put me in the bassinet over the stereo while she painted and decorated their brand new house. I can sing the entire album: hey, hey mama... goin' down, goin down, goin down. Fifty years later and it embraces me and soothes me still. ❤
He lost it later in life, but 10 years earlier he was a force and prodigy that can only be equaled by a few, never beaten. He created the best collection of riffs anybody has ever made, plus putting together the most musically gifted band the world has ever seen Led Zeppelin - which gave birth to modern rock we hear today, you can still put a Zeppelin record on and will sound more current than most modern pop songs. Jimmy page what a legend. Zeppelin will live forever.

@@jwlansdale Yeah, this is almost unrecognisable - I guess it's meant to be (a 'homage to') Opus 28, No.4? - I discovered this last year because I was learning the piece. I was disappointed to find it's completely the wrong notes set to the wrong chords, played by someone who ought to be in rehab. Sad to read all the sychophantic comments from tone-deaf idiots.
I've drafted an amendment to my Will and Trust, for my adult son, which is a list of all the music to be played at my memorial service. (whenever that happens ) This Chopin prelude is right at a crucial moment.......Keith grew up listening to Zep; he knows how important this is to me. I feel certain he will honor my wishes.
I can tell you this is ONE HELL of a CONTRAST compared to the 'show' in Dallas on the same 'tour'. He was so wasted in Dallas he could not stand up (I am being literal here, he used a chair and had to be helped to-from the stage so he would not fall over on his face). It was (also, literally) the ONLY time in my life I had front-row center tickets!....and to make it worse this was also the ONLY time I have seen any of the Led crew (yep, my favorite band). To say I was a bit disappointed would be the understatement of the century. :(
Come on people feel the love by and Jimmy's love for the audience. We were well aware that Jimmy hadn't touched the guitar for a long time after Bonzo's death( still difficult to write the word). As we guitarists know rust never sleeps however Jimmy was inspired by these charity shows for MS and came back with Paul and the Firm soon thereafter to huge critical and audience acclaim.NT
That really doesn't excuse this sounding like a teenager in his bedroom playing and thinking it sounded cool. Jimmy was too damn good to be responsible for this.
I was at this show and never heard the garden louder than it was when Jimmy came out. And growing up in NY I have attended probably close to 80 shows at MSG since 1975 plus Knicks & Ranger games. The place shook! And yeah it was the first time back after Bonzo passed. Great show overall.
@@jperryfan Oh wow, I'm so envious! I would've loved to have been there and your description of how intense and loud the applause was in person for the great Jimmy Page makes me so happy! Yes, I'd heard that Jimmy had been MIA for a few years after the tragic death of Bonzo.
Stargazer26 I can hear myself screaming! I was there and will never forget it. Incredible seeing Page, Beck and Clapton on stage together playing! What a night.
I can listen to it every day and enjoy it the same way I did 50 years ago. Jimmy got it right the first time, with no weak number there - cant be said about any later album of LZ. The sound, engineering, production is absolutely perfect.. to the last plate reverb .. reverberation :)
Jimmy Page. What can I say. He’s probably my biggest inspiration on guitar and has been for about the first time I picked up a guitar. It’s not just speed or the riffs, it’s his sense of rhythm. I play a lot of Led Zeppelin because it’s fun to play but I always come back to the recordings to work on the “swing” that Jimmy Page has when he recorded these songs. If it weren’t for Jimmy Page’s killer riffs, I may never have stick with playing guitar.
Met him in '91 with his band Coverdale & Page.. talked with him for a few minutes, one of my idol's growing up, it was surreal... and he was one cool laid back humble guy! One unique person to say the least... even his blue / grey eyes that were something that were rare to see... his autograph in exchange for me to show him where the art galleries were in Coconut grove, Miami, FL .

If you dont like it, just stay away... delve into whatever you like and explore the treasure we wouldnt care about you .. and your snitty remarks :) so so veiled..
@@tomasvanecek8626 It showed me that rock musicians have a musical knowledge which covers more genres, including classical. Here he plays on guitar the Prelude of Chopin in E minor, also nicknamed Suffocation, due to its sadness. Few realize this is classical music (well Chopin was more a romantic composer) Search for Prelude E minor, Chopin.
@@tomasvanecek8626 The literal title of this video is “Jimmy Page’s CHOPIN PRELUDE N.4.” I hope you’re a troll, because there is no way someone can be that “silly” and claim this has “nothing in common with classical music.” It literally is a classical piece? That Chopin wrote? And it’s in the gosh darn title? It’s understandable if you are unfamiliar with classical music, but you claim to have played “classical guitar” for years, so it’s surprising you never came across this piece before and don’t recognize it. Jimmy is not the composer of this piece; Chopin is. Get off your high horse. Unless you’ve been doing so many hard dr*gs to the point of misunderstanding ilikechopin8112’s comment to THAT extent, there is no excuse for your rude reply to them. @@anyaa565 Lol, I´ve played classical GUITAR, not piano - so no Chopin, sorry.. but anyway.. music is music, right ? Jimmy here is high as a kite.. and I admire him for being able to even get the notes right.. on a B-bender no less... in fact, what he played here was a nod to Jeff Beck
You have to remember, other than the concert movie, this was the first video of Page that made it to TV. It was a really different era back then. Zeppelin did not do the Latenight rock concerts in the 70s, so unless you went to a concert, you never saw them.
Your comment here is completely incorrect. This is not from a TV broadcast at all!! There are many clips from european TV the feature Jimmy from his early teens playing a Skiffle number, and also quite a few clips of Zeppelin throughout it's reign. So you are quite incorrect and they are available to see here! This video was from the ARMS tour to benefit multiple Sclerosis, and his friend Ronnie Lane who was suffereng from this defvastating disease, and is not from the 70's! Nor was it from a television broadcast. This is the video footage taken of the tour. It is also not the first appearance of Jimmy on television!!!! There are many clips of Jimmy on TV from the 70's recorded throughout europe and England. There is also the footage of Jimmy and Jeff Beck playing in the Yardbirds together from the film "Blow Up" in the late 60's! This It is from early 83 as I saw the ARMS tour (I was in Highshool). Sadly, it was also the tailend of Jimmy's addiction with heroin (he might have just kicked it prior to this tour but you can still see the effects on him). He had not toured in a while, and was pulled out of a self imposed exile from playing by Clapton and Beck for this tour. Unfotrtunately, this is painful to watch as he is clearly not playing well. It could be because of his addiction and nerves not having performed live in a while. Thankfully, he overcame his addiction. You should not jump to conclusions such as this if you do not know your facts. Just saying!

I love this so much and for a long time💜 JP makes this composition on his own style, yet elegant and emotional!💥 I think Chopin would not criticize, and would be very grateful for the voice of GUITAR )))
I was at one of those at MSG - still have the ticket stub. Amazing night - Clapton, Beck, Page, Cocker - all did their own sets and then played all together. Lalya was killer with those 3 guitar giants and former Cream members taking on the solos.
I was at this concert. Just an amazing night! Jimmy was in such bad shape though, you had to feel really bad for him. I remember the Stairway to Heaven instrumental and all of MSG singing Robert’s parts. The best!!
@@zeus7558 wow, that one is really good. i honestly can't say which one i like more. i sort of prefer a recording with a less prevalent organ, but the blue suit one IS quite a lot smoother
Some guitarists go on stage and reproduce the recorded music 100% precisely. Page isn't one of them. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, occasionally he produces magic. That, and the body of work he has given us, is why I always listen to Jimmy Page.
It was just around the time I began playing the guitar when I saw this concert on HBO. My three favorite guitarists together, Page, Clapton, and Beck. I watched it over and over again until I could steal every lick they played. Great memories with this performance. Never realized what a mess Jimmy was back then.
I was there at Madison Square Garden when he did this, a friend was working with the lighting crew at the time, Page was so nervous backstage walking back and forth he wasn't on drugs just a wreck with nerves and obsessed how he would play!

With respectful expectation, I am ready for anything from Mr. Page :-) Thank you for your response and perhaps more. Many greetings and good health from Paul
An individual who truly loves playing guitar, and his fans knew it ! I would absolutely love to see some type of Led Zeppelin reunion, maybe just for one show, if possible. If it is one thing that I would like to do, is learn how to play the guitar ! I find the memorization of the notes within each and every song fascinating !
Sadly yes. Ive posted many comments aout this footage and it is painfull to watch. He was also VERY nervous as he hadn't played live in a while. Beck and Clapton pulled him out of exile to be on this tour. Thankfully he survived his addiction and cleaned up. Many wearn't as lucky.
@Matt Dingo you must be an idiot for saying that, I hope that anyone even considering using watch Jimmy, and what it was doing, teeth, skinny as, sweating constantly, wandering aimlessly like a lost soul...thank the gods he survived, yes I have lost a loved one to H...
i'm glad someone likes it. everyone else seems to have serious issues with the tuning, even tho it's literally a b-bender guitar, and he's bending the notes almost constantly, and it's supposed to sound like that
Very kindly put. Yes, the emotion is there but this is an absolute disaster. Or comedy gold depending how you look at it. I’ve seen him numerous times when his playing & ability literally falls apart like this & he turns the song into a train wreck for everyone onstage & everyone in the audience who’s paid good money, however compassionate they may be. I’ve seen Plant up close shooting him looks of absolute disgust when Jim has embarrassed him for the umpteenth time in front of an audience. Aside from the obvious drink & drug nightmares he gets completely overwhelmed by the expectations all around him. But he has a huge ego & nasty sense of entitlement that’s kept him going & a fearlessness (fuelled by drink / drugs / ego??) that you can hear on a lot of the wonderful studio stuff. Keith Richards is similar.

You are very lucky!
Did you get laid? Teen years aren't complete otherwise, did your sister offer?
This is my very favorite version of Chopin's Prelude in E-m, opus 28, #4. Jimmy plays it with raw emotion, and it brings me to tears every time I hear it.
И я тоже плачу, это трогает до глубины души и переворачивает в ней все😢

So did you learn it in 1933? Or in 1971?
C'est une merveilleuse interprétation de ce chefs-d'œuvre, que l'on apprends en cours de piano
@louisedow6489WTF has that got to do with Jimmy Page. Btw, Amber Turd is an attention seeker and no one cares about her and we never asked anyway

This Chopin piano Prelude no. 4 in e minor is one of the best piano pieces ever written. It is great that Jimmy Page has choosen this music for his improvisation. The melody only consists of a few notes, but the harmonies are so rich and full of emotions. Thanks for this great video.

I am listening for the first time this legend and this masterpiece
İsn't it?

I was at this concert. Just an amazing night! Jimmy was in such bad shape though, you had to feel really bad for him. I remember the Stairway to Heaven instrumental and all of MSG singing Robert’s parts. The best!!
I love this video of Jimmy playing Chopin4 prelude ❤I’ve watched it at least 50 times already and I will everytime I see it 🎉❤🎉❤
If you listen carefully to Jimmy guitar, that's his soul crying for help.thank God we didn't loose him like the other Jimi.
This comment healed my wounded heart after listening to this subpar performance. Thank you
@@marendenison3550 why subpar? imho, i thought it was a rather emotional interpretation of a very nice chopin piece
@@bigdripleaf9864 this honestly super good but i kinda prefer the version at london where jimmy was wearing blue suit
@@zeus7558 wow, that one is really good. i honestly can't say which one i like more. i sort of prefer a recording with a less prevalent organ, but the blue suit one IS quite a lot smoother
I WAS THERE.
Just a kid in high school.
This was extremely COOL.
Hello, how are you doing? It is nice seeing you here.
Some guitarists go on stage and reproduce the recorded music 100% precisely.
Page isn't one of them. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, occasionally he produces magic.
That, and the body of work he has given us, is why I always listen to Jimmy Page.
I am not sure what Chopin would say but as a fan of both these musicians, I love it!
It was just around the time I began playing the guitar when I saw this concert on HBO. My three favorite guitarists together, Page, Clapton, and Beck. I watched it over and over again until I could steal every lick they played. Great memories with this performance. Never realized what a mess Jimmy was back then.
@WhatSideOfTheBed DidYouWakeUpOn no it's just because of the death of Bhonam
Didn’t Brian May play in that concert too?
I was there at Madison Square Garden when he did this, a friend was working with the lighting crew at the time, Page was so nervous backstage walking back and forth he wasn't on drugs just a wreck with nerves and obsessed how he would play!
Yes. He wasn't using heroin by that time, but the addiction was hitting hard.
One of the greatest guitarist ever❤
Закрыв глаза, слушая Джими Пэйдж вернулась в юность, спасибо Джимми.
Да супер просто !!!!
@Алексей Гитара шёл бы уже, Лозу слушать..завистник
I saw Page a year after this when he was with The Firm. He was phenomenal!

Isn't that something a Rock musician playing Frederic Chopin's Prelude!! One of my favorite Chopin pieces by the way. RIP Jimmy. You were great!
He is alive 😂
I listen to it since so many years, thank you Jimmy.
Thanks for supporting my music 🎶 I’m so grateful 🥰 and I hope you never stop being a fan, I would like to honor you by giving you my personal information if that’s ok by you.❤️
@@jimmypage7275 Dear Mr Page, that would be a very great honour for me.
I've been listening to your music since I was 7 or 8 and it still doesn't bore me, and I'm quite old now. I was born in 63, and I missed the best part of music. So I had to catch up on everything. Things like Screaming Lord Sutch and others.
With respectful expectation, I am ready for anything from Mr. Page :-)
Thank you for your response and perhaps more.
Many greetings and good health from Paul
@@paulmuellermann6704 okay you can send me your own email address so I can send you an invite on hangouts.
First of all the crowd loves him and the part with the bow at the end is magical style.
he is jimeh l luv jimmy page
Ahora apareciste, porque no vi iste cuando much@s se quejaban, yo doy la cara, Silvia y tengo 66 años! 🇦🇷🦋
I just can't resist playing this back to back, no interpretation of this prelude mooves me more
This was his, "My body has been hijacked by heroin" days. Glad he recovered.
Yeah, he was even slapping his arm before playing like he was about to shoot up.
His teeth are horrible
Sadly yes. Ive posted many comments aout this footage and it is painfull to watch. He was also VERY nervous as he hadn't played live in a while. Beck and Clapton pulled him out of exile to be on this tour. Thankfully he survived his addiction and cleaned up. Many wearn't as lucky.
@Matt Dingo What a horrible thing to say!
@Matt Dingo you must be an idiot for saying that, I hope that anyone even considering using watch Jimmy, and what it was doing, teeth, skinny as, sweating constantly, wandering aimlessly like a lost soul...thank the gods he survived, yes I have lost a loved one to H...
Id love to hear Jeff Beck play that. Seems made for him. Cool to see Jimmy do it in good spirits.
I didn't expect Chopin in that version , bravo !
i'm glad someone likes it. everyone else seems to have serious issues with the tuning, even tho it's literally a b-bender guitar, and he's bending the notes almost constantly, and it's supposed to sound like that
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JAMES PATRICK PAGE !! ROCK ON !!
2021 still listening 2 this golden masterpiece. Thank u 4 sharing this with us. Lots of love from Oporto, Portugal 🤗
Hello, how are you doing? It is nice seeing you here.
@@jimmypage5750 hi. I'm good. And u? 🤗
@@ruteferreirarico8272 I am good thanks. Well I know you must be surprised to receive a message from me right?
@@jimmypage5750 yes, Indeed 😊
@Jimmy Page and about u. Aren't u surprised to receive my messages back?
Jimmy always puts himself out there even when the artistic intent outpaces technical grasp. The emotion is still present, it's still magic.
