Page will always be the Master Orchestral Songwriter of rock guitar. Led Zeppelin’s catalog is a testament to this. He was always a visionary artist. Page was, is and will always be on another level compared to the rest.
@@TheFourWindsBar-777 I tend to agree with that way also. Blind Faith was a Great adventure, but I think ultimately could have been Brilliant n it falls short of that
Oh, and i forgot to include the Beatles White album as some great work by Clapton. But his solo career was no where near as impressive as Page and the Zeppelin catalogue .
You need to be more objective. Page's songwriting, arranging and individual style was a major contribution to Led Zeppelin, of course. But, they did stagnate a bit after the 5th album, as rock music evolved in different directions. By the time they ended, they had become mega-big dinosaurs of rock. Cream did it all before Led Zeppelin, and their live improvisations took rock into uncharted areas. It was the chemistry between them, with Baker and Bruce unmatched. Clapton's blues/rock style was the perfect foil, otherwise, their music making may have just become too esoteric, without the popularity they achieved. After Cream, Clapton chose different paths, and has been hugely successful. He just happens to be one of the most influential guitarists ever, from the Mayall days onward, which is not a bad achievement. Jeff Beck starred with The Yardbirds, had a few years finding his way without having a huge impact, and then came out with Blow By Blow and Wired, and just kept getting better and better, breaking new ground in terms of guitar technique, and having the most melodic musical style of any electric guitarists that I know of. He could take a simple melody and orchestrate it with the most astounding control of tone and expression. There are guitarists who can play far more notes per minute, but so what.
I went to the 83 LA show to see them and support Lane, Clapton came out first, he was great, Page came out 2nd, he was great. Then Beck came out 3rd, and wiped the floor with them back and forth over and over again, no contest. I had never seen Beck live before. Then they all played Train Kept a Rollin- just phenomenal- I will never forget, it was one of the bests things I''ve ever seen I've told this story many times.
I have these ARMS Beck shows saved. Watching them is like a religious experience. Using a basic '57 Reissue Stratocaster, he takes guitar playing to another level entirely. What a unique and inspired musician he was!!! I can't find words that really describe his musicianship.
Come to that, where does Bill Wyman fit into this? These American 'experts' create channels which are designed to attract views, thereby generating income, and the videos are full of utter rubbish in most cases and have 'sensational' titles to attract the viewer, but are, as has been said below, nonsense. They can't even get their facts right! Clapton did not get the nickname of 'Slowhand' with the Yardbirds - it was with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers.
Simple, Eric believes Jimmy put out a record that he played on and didn’t share copyright in the mid sixties but Jimmy didn’t have any control over the release,it’s a sleazy business and musicians huge ego’s get in the way.
Pretty good summation. I've followed both of these artists for several decades and I don't think they were ever very close as the video seems to hint at.
That seems to be a story I've heard before. I kinda believe it, because it's a real sticking point. Since they didn't do it together, Clapton will always be suspicious. Clapton feels a certain way about it. Whether Page had control or not, is out of our hands. But Eric didn't like Oldham obviously, he did it for commercial gain. That was a good explanation. Thank you.
@@alanmiller2250 Oldham had also overdubbed some old Stones tracks to make it more 'commercial' without Pages knowledge (according to Page). Clapton did not recieve any royalties nor was he aware of any release. Clapton believes that Page was somehow involved in this betrayal (rightly or not) and said he was Betrayed by Page. Given Page's history with borrowing other's peoples music without consent makes this seem plausible. IMO.

One big factor in the differences between Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page, would be that one sings while playing guitar, and the other just plays guitar - especially true while performing live. I believe that both musicians, in their own rights, are two of the best in what and how they play. Remember, music is mostly in the ears, minds and emotions of the beholders. "Keep on Rockin' in The Free World..."
The reason he was called slow hand was because when when Clapton would break a guitar string during a concert and replace it on stage, the English audience would wait by doing a "slow handclap". It was a play on his name slow hand CLAPton.
@@guyfantastico8268 it was when Clapton was just starting out with the Yardbirds in October of 63 when the “clap” started, and he used very light strings for his extra extreme use of bending and much of his bending was 1 and a half steps. I find them all great musicians. When it is between Page and Clapton, I prefer Page more. He can do everything Eric can, but then more creative and original. Especially as a composer/arranger. And Jeff Beck takes it even further... But again, I appreciate all of them.
Clapton, Page and Beck are all terrific in different ways. Clapton is by far the best singer and has been a prolific song writer. Page is a great acoustic player, band leader and producer. Beck is very innovative and did great work in jazz fusion.
lol. Clapton has been the biggest tease since Cream. His solos are tame and usually in an outtro that fades way too quickly. I’ve seen him live many times and he is a fantastic guitar player but not close to Page. Page gave everything he had. He was the music he didn’t just play it he lived it.
Sorry but I'm calling Bulshavic on this RUclips segment. First of all Jimmy & Eric were never "Close" friends. Jimmy grew up with Jeff Beck in the same neighborhood NOT Clapton. Yes Jimmy & Eric had done some jamming together with recordings of the sessions. But Musicians like themselves did a lot of those back in the day so it wasn't anything special of those recordings other than the fact that you had 2 Great guitar players. Secondly Jimmy had nothing to do with the Release of those Recordings so you have that as well. Bottom Line, Jimmy & Eric were NEVER close friends so this is much ado about nothing!
I totally agree. Eric was best friends with George Harrison and stole his wife with it too. They stayed friends sort of. Jeff was just a better natural talent of blues than Eric who had to work at it. Page was more acoustic sinth. With ballads. All great in their own ways. Don't know where Waters came from tbh

It was said he ripped off so many people as a engineer he couldn’t work As 1 anymore except for a band that he made himself hence Led Zeppelin. And being that JP produced that session with Clapton, JP had power to release those tapes, and it wasn’t as much as releasing those tapes it was about Eric never received a dime from them, so of course, he believed JP took Eric’s share. And Page said to Eric he never received a dime either but Slowhand never believed him, and it makes sense being he was the producer of those tapes, that page would take Eric’s share, being he was known to do things like that. And that’s where they stopped talking for a little while, and we’re never as close as they were pre-Zepplin again. Even though Clapton did forgive him, partly. Saw 3 nights of ARMS shows back in early eighties. Jeff was the man all three. Jimmy was still riding high on his earlier sucess was stale and extremely sloppy. I had seen LZ a few times and saw the Outrider tour so i had some exposure to his live shows . My seats were close to the stage and could see their faces and expressions . Seeing the look on Erics face in reaction to what Jimmy was playing was very telling. It was very awkward . You could almost see a look of embarrassment for Jimmy and disbelief from Eric. When Jimmy bends often times he doesnt quite reach the notes hes shooting for and they sound flat and out of tune . His solo on Stairway to Heaven was terrible. He was sweating so much it looked like he had just stepped out of the shower. His guitar was covered in sweat and gunk . hahahahah Jimmy makes the funniest faces and spits all over the place . Some of Jimmys set was good and he got a great applause from the audience. The audience responce when he walked out on stage may have been the biggest from all 3 guys. People love him none the less . But as far as his guitar playing Jimmy was not on the same level as his two rivals .
I’ve seen dozens of interviews with these guys plus Clapton bio pic “12 Bars” and they’re clearly friends, not necessarily besties but they’ve known each other since they were like in they’re early teens and have such different styles and different sounds, not even close to rivals. But Beck was better than both that’s for sure and I love all 3
It was Beck and Page who lived basically next-door to each other growing up, and it was those 2 who were friends since they were about bout 15 -And slowhand lived about a mile away, but didn’t know either of them until they got the music business.
Eric was under contract with Oldham which was why Oldham got the tapes. Jimmy did engineering and production work on them before he gave Oldham the tapes. Eric was not involved with any of those decisions so he got pissed off. And is still pissed off. He needs to get over it.
20 minutes of rehashed stuff that has been out there a long time. Both great players and I spent huge amounts of time in my youth learning Clapton's stuff in particular. Didn't know about the 'legal' bootlegging/mixing but apart from that, the Roger Waters F'up and the lack of content over presentation was poorly derived. I know what it's like working the circuit in a specific trade and you do meet the same people from time to time and sometimes move onto the next contract together. We don't live in each others pockets and no doubt it's similar for musicians. If this is an attempt in utilising AI to help a presentation, don't give up your day job.
O.K. So this is my take on this malarkey. Legend has it that Clapton and Page actually were friendly when they were young. But something happened that soured their friendship. Something to do with a recording. Clapton and Page recorded a tune and from what I heard some "Shi@head" said that he "Owned the rights to the recording". - Something like that.
the truth is....whatever little jam sessions they had - they're NOT designed to 'gel' on any level. Despite all this 'blues history' crap...they're chalk and cheese. And, if anyone was honest...they listen mostly to Led Zepp, if they're having a nostalgic listen of times past
What hasn't been mentioned was whether Pahe knew of the tapes release or whether he was a part of that release. It's a go nowhere story until that gets clarified. And what's with the Roger Waters photos?
At Least give Jeff Beck his due by saying his name and that he replaced EC in the Yardbirds and most Yardbird songs are with hy guitar mastery. I've seen Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton and would go to JB anyday over EC.
And no mention of Peter Green? My, my. Maybe the best of them all, imo. Had he not suffered his mental condition who knows how things might have shaped up? I think the best way to think of this cadre of great British guitarists is there were a number of them all great in their own way. Green, Beck, Page and Clapton, just to name four.
Beck, Clapton, Page and Townshend was at their times the greatest ever from The UK,, Beck I think was technically better than the other three but could never put a band together. Clapton was brilliant although I thought he got a bit lazy in the 70s,, Page and Townshend went on to have the most influential bands of all time! I've never seen Beck live seen Clapton in the 80s but did catch both The Who and Led Zeppelin live. Was great,, although would give the edge live to The Who they were totally untouchable live in the 70s but both great and I got to see them. All great and influential players in different realms of rock n roll. No one here is better than the other only different players. Enjoy the music people!!!!
Sometimes Clapton is simply not comfortable playing right handed, and the stage crew starts to hand over the left handed guitars, yes indeed. Wait what..
In my personal opinion. There are So many great guitar players out there. But if you look at these 3 Guitar Players. They all have completely different styles of playing. Hard Rock bordering on Heavy Metal James Patrick Page blows away Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton. Neither of those Guitar players have ever recorded anything as hard and heavy as Jimi. Now as far as technical prowess and the overall mastery of the electric guitar to create sounds and so many elements of different music into your own unique style Jeff Beck Is a Musical chameleon, he beats the other 2 with his versatility. Yet Eric Clapton is a Guitar Player that has a style that is completely his own and he is an innovator and influencer to many other guitarists, so he is the best example of going for what you know and keeping it simple and not to complex just slow and easy and steady.
Unlike his peers it wasn’t jealousy for E C. I believe Cream along w/ Hendrix took music to the next Level. Led Zeppelin is the Crowning Jewel of the British Blues Experiment. But Zeppelin was outrageously Huge on many levels, I think for Eric it was alienating because ironically it’s where he once was but never achieved the Experimental barrier shattering success of Zeppelin and the path it drove in music history.Personally I don’t think the late 60’s recording mentioned here is that pivotal to E C. Also the concert for Ronnie gave Jimmy a platform to shine again after Zeppelin.Eric deserves credit for that. It also Jimmy to get sober n clean. This rivalry deal is overblown. Still a great video.
I generally loath and avoid comparisons but truthfully, IF not for "CREAM" Led Zeppelin wouldnt have sounded they way they did. NO ONE would who played what was called "Rock" at that time, and though Zeppelin sounded completely different, they would never have had a vision such as they one they hatched if not for Messieurs Bruce, Clapton and Baker. Even "HENDRIX" wanted to meet Eric and hear Cream when he arrived in London in 1966....Cream "set the bar". Ya gotta go back to 1965 for the Genesis of it all because "sonically" nobody was playing Gibson Les Pauls and SGs through Marshalls and getting that turbo-charged "BLUES-ROCK. Years later Stevie Ray was to do with a "Strat" what Clapton did w/ Gibsons, taking Jimi's lush chordal approach and funky syncopation w/ his searing acrobatic Blues runs . The only thing missing was Jimis SyFy imagination but that wasnt Stevies vision. Stevie wanted to be a 21st century Bluesman, and thats what he did !

It's an element that helps to define greatness, as apposed to being merely interesting and technically clever.
Page will always be the Master Orchestral Songwriter of rock guitar. Led Zeppelin’s catalog is a testament to this. He was always a visionary artist. Page was, is and will always be on another level compared to the rest.
Absolutely True you can’t look past that!
Except for the work he did with Cream, Clapton was kind of dull and boring in my opinion.
Beck was in another realm altogether.

Why put up photos of Roger Waters?
Would help if they knew the difference between Jimmy and Roger waters
Yet Eric Clapton is a Guitar Player that has a style that is completely his own and he is an innovator and influencer to many other guitarists, so he is the best example of going for what you know and keeping it simple and not to complex just slow and easy and steady.
there is a difference between Jimmy Page and Roger Waters!!!
Page seems to look a lot like Roger Waters at the Ronnie Lane concert.
He looks like Yoda
Ummm Jeff Beck replaced Clapton in the Yardbirds....Page replaced Beck.

I am a big fan of Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page, but this was a load of you know what.
Air Wick ??? Sounds like a fragrance?
In my opinion Clapton was and is a much better guitarist. Just much more talented, period. Just MY OPINION.,nothing more.
