I only discovered Led Zeppelin about 10 years ago, when I was 30. Ten years later I'm learning to play the guitar, mainly because of LZ. After about 4 months, I can finally play Babe I'm Gonna Leave you proper enough to not scare away people. It's so awesome. What a band.
Every album they created is a masterpiece. The Third album, Houses of the Holy, Physical Graffiti and Presence each being mostly fringe from what passive fans might know, each are absolutely brilliant. No band has ever created such a diverse and fantastic body of work.
... in their genre!!! For actual diversity across genres and decades you need to give credit to Sparks and Van der Graff Generator. Obviously, only if your musical tastes are sufficiently diverse.
Bowie: Man Who Sold The World; Ziggy Stardust; Aladdin Sane; Station to Station. Stones: Beggars; Let It Bleed; Sticky Fingers; Exile. Not that I don't like Led Zep, just that they were not the only greats in town...
I'm a folk singer songwriter, and Led Zeppelin have been a huge inspiration. The way they fused classic blues, folk and hard rock is so unique, a very tight and focused unit. So sad losing Bonzo, as his drumming was explosively good with an amazing cadence.
The arrow of time , plus fate , times destiny , and divided by the average life span of a rock star , or a famous scientist , or movie star equals just about every history making event humans have been a part of . There is no way any other person would've fit the same slot , as every one of those individuals . It's literally unimaginable . Could you imagine anybody else other than Elvis ? Or Einstein ? Or John Denver ? Or Paul McCartney . Led Zeppelin is one of many , in a long line of things meant to happen right from the very start . You were meant to happen , I was meant to happen , and the way things have turned out for us was meant to happen . Sadly , I believe the arrow of destiny has likely been altered by those that understand fate can be used as a tool to adjust the direction of the future
Some bands choose to break up after the loss of what they believe to be such an essential member. In this case, at the same time, this deprives those born after 1980 the chance to see Led Zeppelin live as a complete band.
The pure talent of the band and their unbelievably cohesive nature is unique in all of rock history. There's a clip of the Mighty Zeppelin playing Achilles Last Stand live at Knebworth and they hit every single change perfectly in time with each other. I have played guitar since I was 12 and played in a number of bands ... it really is a beautiful thing to watch. Achilles Last Stand is an unbelievably complicated piece, particularly for Bonzo. In my humble opinion, it's his best work. To pull off a nearly perfectly executed live performance of that particular song shows how in sync with each other Led Zeppelin truly was and why continuing without John Bonham was never an option.
@@johnwelch615 yes , it's like Bonham was competing with Page . Page was competing with Bonham . Whatever you throw at me Page , I got it , I'm not playing second fiddle to you Page .
Folk music at the forefront, added rock n roll, blues, hard core rock…there you have it…Led Zeppelin. The absolute combination of brilliance, talent, presence, and the unknown. The most influential band of all time will live on long after we are all gone. No one has ever or will ever come close. ❤️
I was fortunate enough to have seen them perform Led Zeppelin at the Montreal Forum 1969. They were and still are the best band ever. One thing you can say about England is that there were so many great bands that came from there. The list is endless.
What about The Beatles? Without them - no Led Zeppelin. Or any other UK or USA band from the mid-1960s and onward. I love the Mighty Zep. But the Beatles started it all.
Same I was just a tad to young. Even when Bonzo died I was still to young to had been allowed to go to a concert but I do remember they were set to tour at that time. Loved them then still listen today.
I missed seeing my first fav group the Beatles when I was 9. Thank God I got to see Zepp in 74 at the Forum. Definitely one of those nights you will never ever forget !!!
Jimmy Page is an artist. Not just a great composer and musician but in the sense that Led Zeppelin was his artistic vision. At this point in time the band seem like a great painting. At classical work of art.
They will always be the best hard rock band but not because they were the first. Their music stands up to any scrutiny and the reason they will always be the best is because they really were the best
Stones,Beatles? How can they compare. Plant Jones, Page ,Bonham? Never to be replaced. Stones elevator music. You can feel and see connections between them. Even to this day. Jason Bonham has deep love. They have something comes along 1x only. Feel it
I think led Zeppelin is the only band in which every member can claim to be the best at their respective parts Plant - greatest singer Page - greatest guitarist JPJ - greatest bassist Bonham - greatest drummer... No other band boast such a magnificent lineup...
@@DeborahWilliamson-zu7ul this is what I was thinking. I love JPJ, I think he’s an absolutely phenomenal musician. But Geddy Lee is just untouchable on the bass
What a wonderful gift these four passionate and talented men and their close associates gave us all! Nothing quite like they brought to us -- all the joy and inspiration we got from their music. Better still that it's all so timeless that we can present it to new/future generations and have it engage, uplift, and entertain many of them so. Very much of a blessing.
It's almost 2022 and I've been listening to Led Zeppelin since 1976. Hands down Best Rock Band Ever. Paige , Plant , Jones and Bonzo. Great musicians and best Rock vocalist in the world.
It was back in 1969 when I first got hold of of their Led Zeplin II album. Loved it but it was not until I attended Art College in Portsmouth in 1976 that I really got in to their material.
I was in 10th grade when Bonzo died. I'll never forget the collective grief of everyone. Boys and girls. We knew it was the end of an era. It still hurts today.
You must have been in the Army ?? I discovered them as a young Marine home on leave from Nam. We have enjoyed many great keg parties and get togethers with great Music, wouldn't you say ????!!!!!
I have Listened To Led Zeppelin Every Day of my life, since their original album was produced. I bought a console stereo from a store in 1969. I had an eight track Led Zeppelin tape in the slot. That was the beginning for me. Led Zeppelin was not played on the radio in my area except after Midnight. I would sit up and scan the radio channels to find new music.
When we were kids (12, 13,) my siblings and our friends knew immediately that The Yardbirds were something completely different. We were so young…we couldn’t articulate why and how they were different, but it doesn’t matter, we have those wonderful memories. It wasn’t until I was 15, I heard this album of Led Zeppelin (2nd album). Whoa! I couldn’t stop listening to it. It wasn’t anything I could explain, but I only wanted to listen to that album. Then! Surprise!! I found out they had their 1st album I hadn’t heard yet. Well, that was it. It’s been Led Zeppelin for me as #1 all these years. I’m now 66, and they are still #1 and will always be.
Hey...I'm an old guy and seen Zeppelin twice in concert...in their prime. Friggin amazing band...the only band from that era that I seen live that was comparable to zeppelin live performance was a band called Jethro Tull
I was in grad school at Wake Forest University the day he died... I was in one of my best friends dorm room marveling at the "Fool in the Rain" drumbeat on "In thourgh the out Door" album... I couldn't believe it.... They were my favorite band since their initial release... I couldn't afford the album as a 10 year old but I had a 45 with "Good Times Bad Times" and "Communicaiton Breakdown" and simply got worn out.... I will never forget how much I studied those first two album covers in my dorm room in college... Damn they were a great band... Everyone of them and collectively were fine fine musicians... Have JPJ and JPage assured them of very strong content and fabulous arrangements for the duration...
As an American I loved this video! Grateful that I was raised listening to rock, blues in the 1980s when I was a kid and amazed at the Brits’ reinvention of rock n roll. My only regret was that I wasn’t born early enough to see their inaugural tour and other great bands in the 60s
I’m 68 and consider myself privileged to have grown up in this time. Living in the Tampa Bay Area we got all the great rock bands and I saw Zeppelin for their first tour and fourth. Zeppelin sold out the Tampa Stadium which broke the Beatles attendance record at Shay Stadium.
Led Zeppelin has been my all time favorite band since I was 12yrs old and I feel the same way today at 54 yrs old! I can't give you a favorite song because I love them all. The lyrics are all memorized in my mind so Zep is with me at all times. They are the #1 Hard Rock Band and that will never change. ❤️

Truly an enjoyable documentary about the greatest rock group ever. I have been blessed to see them all in person perform live. I was saddened by the death of Bonzo. But they were all right. Led Zeppelin was no more without John. But the tribute to Ahmet Ertegun at O2 for the one show was an acceptable exception.
One of many, many things I love & respect about LedZepp is THEIR love & respect FOR LedZeppelin when they wouldn’t go on without Bonzo. That tells u what type of people they are..no ego..no greed & always respect. You cannot have LedZeppelin without any one of them & they knew it...they wouldn’t even try it. LOYALTY! Funny, Led Zeppelin III has always been one of my favorite Zep albums. The wide range of emotions that the songs on that album provoke are remarkable, and many of the songs on it are simply beautiful. After Physical Graffiti and Led Zeppelin IV, consider it their best work. _'Tangerine,'_ _'Celebration Day,'_ _'Gallow's Pole,'_ _'That's the Way,'_ _'Immigrant Song,'_ _Out on the Tiles,''_ and _'Friends'_ are as prominent on my playlists, still receiving plenty of listens, decades later.
Never really knew why everybody raved on about john bonham but then i watched since ive been loving you live at madison square gardens. His drumming is unreal its the slow tempo's that is the test of a good drummer not the machinegunning millions of bangs a minute
Yes Led Zeppelin I've seen them twice in Amsterdam! Great, fantastic, sometimes those memories hurt so much. I'm 67 now. I've seen almost all those great Bands in de 70ties when I was in the twenties Young and beautifull! Love from Willy from Amsterdam!!!
I think the genius of Led Zeppelin is that all four members of the group are Rockstars in their own right. When you listen to any one of their songs, each member can distinctly be heard at most any point in time. It was never a struggle to hear John Bonham on the drums. You could always count on being able to distinguish John Paul Jones for his baseline, which was always ground breaking and incredible. Although Jimmy page was the lead guitarist, there was often times when his guitar was not the primary sound that was leading the melody. Sometimes it was Robert Plant’s voice, which was one of a kind, like no other. It was a given that all four members were equals and each one was willing and able to take the lead when called upon. When you combine four musical geniuses, talented and fearless Rockstars, all pulling in the same direction, incredible things happen. This is Led Zeppelin. And there is no substitute.
Peter Grant was the manager that many other groups wished they had. He got Led Zep the money they deserved, but so many other groups had extremely poor management and basically sunk without trace, or money. Great video documentary, very well done and great characters and their memories of a time, and a legendary band.
Preach, Derek! Been watching docs on Peter Grant and am blown away by his dedication and total allegiance to Zep! It seems like he was absolutely perfect to guide and navigate through the ugly, business side of things, taking no shit from ANYONE and giving every inch of his being to making sure Zep got everything they deserved and set new ground rules for artists in an industry filled with greed and thieves - Grant suffered no fools! He is the fifth member of the band, essential in every way! Respect! P.S. gonna get the 2014/2015 remastered albums today! Hope the sonics are noticeably improved! Take care, friend!
I AM also 67....this was an awesome video.....yes"LED ZEPPELIN" the best band ever....Bozo Rest in peace...we all love you and miss you...My youngest daughter Hilda Marie Luzitano 25 years old loves LED ZEPPELIN....
The single best band of all time The most talented, by far. Rock, blues, acoustic and then there's Stairway, Kashmir, Dazed and Confused. We don't even need to mention love ballads like The Rain Song, All of My Love and What is and What Should Never Be. The fact is that there will never be a band that will ever surpass Led Zeppelin as far as popularity, record sales, depth of variety and range of songs
God bless Bonzo up in heaven, he died when I was a senior in HS. Me and 2 buddies were driving from Syracuse NY to Buffalo NY to purchase tickets for the upcoming Zeppelin concert in Buffalo when the news came over the radio that Bonham had died the night before. The absolute worst day of my entire life. Page, Plant & Jones did the right thing back in 1980 with Dis-banding out of respect for Bonzo, yes Jason could have stepped in (as he did for Celebration Day concert & film ) but it just would not have been the same without Bonzo. For me, I say "If I can't listen to Led Zeppelin then I listen to nothing at all"
As usual, the glue that made Zep work John Paul Jones doesn’t get the credit he so richly deserves! People forget that without a Great Bass player (not to mention keyboards) mixing it up with the drummer laying the foundation no band works! Page & Plant we’re always out front and the focus but without the whole combo it never would’ve happened. Damn!
Lord where the heck has this absolutely amazing and awsome documentary been?!?!! Damn I've been obsessed with Led zeppelin and english rock for ever and Jimmy Page as a young boy on T.V. and John Paul Jones is one of the greatest musicians to ever live but we never get to learn enough about and this video is doing such a good job of doing that!!!
Try the searches on Netflix and Hulu !! There are some great documentarys about other bands too. Like The Allman Brothers Band and Lenard Skynard !!!! I like to burn one and jam with them maybe a glass of wine. I came through the 60's, so I enjoy the memories. My state just legalized weed recreationally.
Saw them live in 1979, loved them from 74 until 2017, when I discovered Band-Maid (THE best Rock band in existence), who took over their #1 slot in my heart. Jimmy Page was so impressed with seeing Band-Maid live, he went backstage to tell them how good their performance had been and to get a selfie with their drummer, Akane.
Led zeppelin is even now they're "old" still great, still great voice still great music....most bands don't sound so good anymore when they're older...😊
I appreciate the admission, the statement of the Fact that these Groups were so influenced by African American music. This was Music born of extreme pain and suffering but the people, the genius of the people made it beautiful. It was also Cathartic medicine for survival. I think it's why it's so universally loved and felt. I loved The Fact that Led Zeppelin used their English Acoustic Music, it's very beautiful and also very Soulful.
At the age of 10 in 1969 I bought Zeps first album and the rest was history. I had every album they made. I still have a mint condition unopened album of their first album. Bonham helped inspire me to become a drummer and now at age 63 I'm still drumming and rocking out to LZ. I'll always be a Led Head. FYI, it's Jon Bonham not John.
JIMMY PAGE is a vastly vastly underrated producer. I think though what makes zep stand out is their live stuff. HOW THE WEST WAS WON is simply the best live music I've ever heard in my life. Put those 3 cd's on and I dare u to even try mentioning anyone else with better live stuff
They were very good live but I think the who especially the Leeds show is the my favourite of course it's very subjective but zeppelin were a top draw live act no doubting that
As a teen, I ignored Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd because I couldn’t stand the idiots who liked them. In my late thirties I rediscovered them and gave them a fair chance and was highly impressed. I circled back 10 years later and learned about the prowess of the individual musicians and delved into the complexity and innovation of their music and I was blown away, and I’ve stayed that way. The more you know about music and about them, the less reason you have to even consider anyone else as the alpha. Utterly amazing.
Their last album was my favorite, In through the Out door. I bought it when the cover looked like a paper bag in cassette. The unfortunate loss of John Bonham made the album and his legacy so much sweeter.
Thanks to the best Bluesman of them all - Robert Johnson - in a song written more than half a decade earlier and later included in the Zeppelin Box set, "Traveling Riverside Blues"
I was reading and listening to Zepp, - but not close enough, "the lemon song" came on, my Mom - who was getting ready to go out, suddenly turned and shouted "turn that of now !!!! = oops
I'm so glad that JPJ got lots of praise in this film. He is far too often the unknown, unsung hero.
Yet he's left out in the title here :'(
I like him the best

4 virtuoso musicians coming together in a time, place, era, with a body of work that will not ever be duplicated, that's Led Zeppelin.
Very well stated, the Mighty Zeppelin truly was the very first so-called supergroup.
Every album they created is a masterpiece. The Third album, Houses of the Holy, Physical Graffiti and Presence each being mostly fringe from what passive fans might know, each are absolutely brilliant. No band has ever created such a diverse and fantastic body of work.
Agreed. Most have no clue of the beauty of Presence They wrote lyrics like no others VERY FEW know what most of the tracks are TRULY about

Stones Yes very Iconic band. 100% Though still Zep rules
As Idividual artists however ....PAGE,PLANT,BONZO and Mr.JONES....Hands down
They will never be replaced. Even if there is a singer who comes very close to Robert Plant, it doesn't matter. They aren't Robert Plant.
I'm a folk singer songwriter, and Led Zeppelin have been a huge inspiration. The way they fused classic blues, folk and hard rock is so unique, a very tight and focused unit. So sad losing Bonzo, as his drumming was explosively good with an amazing cadence.
Don’t forget Robert Plant’s Blues background.

Incredibly pointless and stupid comment.
Well said! 👍😎

I was born years after they made their hits..now I just can't stop of listening to their songs..and I think Jimmy has always been my crush so adorable

Always has been,, always will be The Greatest Band Ever
The absolute best rock band ever, rock on Led Zeppelin 🥰
