Props to your mortgage amount! We pay about the same for ours. Our house is old and outdated and we live in a suburb where everything is NEW and I often feel like we must be doing something wrong, but the smaller mortgage is why I can be a SAHM. Truly.

Thanks for sharing! Love how open and genuine you are! So happy that your family has made therapies for your son a priority! As a private SLP, I see so many families spend tons on clothes, nails, cars, hair, etc. and then say that speech therapy for their child is too expensive. Also, that baby!!

And THANK YOU for saying that gardening doesn't always save you money. Dear gosh! We have a garden and truthfully, it's just my husband's hobby. When he retires from the military he wants to homestead full time and help us to be more self- sufficient but right now it's not saving us any money. However he does things as frugally as possible so I'm ok with it being his hobby.

But it gives me joy to see that you and your family are doing well and helping others out.

I have been a subscriber of yours for a long time now but I have been away from RUclips for awhile. I seriously love your attitude! My husband and I were so on board with paying off debt and saving money and we were doing really well....then I got diagnosed with cancer...I just became cancer free at the very end of last year (December 29th, 2019!) WOO WOO! However, in light of that I have been spoiling myself a bit more, definitely some extra runs to Starbucks and I might even get highlights in my hair for summer! Anyways, I just wanted to comment and say I really enjoy your attitude about money because everyone is walking their own path and I think its awesome that you see that!

My youngest son also has OT and Speech therapy... he has needed it since he was 3 years old (now 8). We were lucky to receive in home therapy at age 3 at no charge due to our amazing state regulations, and then he also attended a special needs preschool for two years at no charge... and now he receives both at school, where he has one or the other for a short amount of time each day. He has made huge strides and is expected to be a fully functional adult with little to no delays! All this to say, I am in the same boat with you, Lydia, and isn’t it amazing how True it is that God doesn’t give us more than we can handle? You are an exceptional mother! Thank you for sharing details that can make you feel vulnerable.... we appreciate it!

My youngest daughter had speech therapy and we sacrificed private preschool and instead placed her into prek age based classes at our local community center in order to afford the $600 monthly therapy sessions and it was worth every penny. I applaud you for doing what you know works best for your child. I got a lot of raised eyebrows when friends and family would find out our cost for therapy and my answer is my kid, my money, and my decision. 😊

I don’t comment much and in fact, have gotten so behind on my favorite vloggers....you being one of the best! I love your advice, the cute expressions, whispers... I always get a laugh from you. We are remodeling our 45 yr old house also so I have enjoyed learning about what all you are doing. Some things are the same (Windows) and updating all over. We had to replace a tub shower combo which included plumbing that wasn’t expected. It tears up your walls so there is that. We replaced all hall doors and added and replaces light fixtures. We replaced our floors...what a job. Painted all walls (sorry, mine are the palest of grey but I love it! Sherwin Williams, Silverado) It is close to a white shade and I did all trim in extra white (also Sherwin Williams) so it looks so clean and fresh and brighter. I don’t have small children or homeschool so wow! You have my thoughts and prayers!

Thanks for sharing your business with us! Your family is truly blessed by God in many ways, & I know if my family lived closer we could be good friends! And, yes, our central Alabama gardens over the last 12 years have cost us tons more than if we never tried because in total we have yielded 5 or 6 cherry tomatoes, 1 watermelon, 1 canteloupe, 4 or 5 yellow crooked-neck squash, 2 zucchini, 10-15 bell peppers, 5 potatoes, and 80-100 cayenne peppers that were editable. I have read books, & watched videos to have a successful garden, but many books leave out the problems we have encountered & I have learned what not to do the hard way! One day, I will have a bountiful garden because I am determined!

I'm sharing my journey to becoming debt free and a lot of times I feel judged and I get a few negative comments about how I spend my money because I'm very open about my budget. I have to remember that I don't really owe anyone an explanation.
Also love what you said about your farm. My end goal is to have land and live on it (not for money savings reasons, but for the purpose of teaching our kids how to grow their own food and know what we are eating).

Same! Im very open with our budget. I often feel judged and actually lose subscribers when I post my budget videos though. I'm starting to think it's because we're further along in our journey. Focusing on investing, building wealth and paying off the mortgage. I'm assuming my viewers aren't quite there yet so they dont want to see it 😞 But a lot of RUclipsrs that do budget videos are paying off debt, I feel sharing life after that step is still important and should be seen encouraging, atleast that was my goal. Maybe people see it as braggy.

100% on the garden. Saw someone on fb saying that if you buy pepper plants from Lowe's as long as you get half a dozen vegetables from each one you've made your money back. Um no those run about $4 and green peppers are usually 50 cents at the store. Annnd I'm not usually that lucky with my pepper plants anyways. I'm planting a few things from seeds this year, we will see how its goes, our hoa doesnt allow gardens so everything will be in a pot.

We have a Hyundai van. They don't make them anymore. Also, we have a 12 month emergency fund and have no sinking funds. We keep a years worth of expenses and use that to cover anything that comes up and then we replenish what we use.

My husband is in the military and we bought a house and our Mortgage is only 900 because we bought in a more country area...two years after we bought the house the army decided to moveus to an area where the living cost is ridiculously expensive and our rent is literally double our mortgage 😭😭😭😭.... we kept our house and are renting it to another soldier but it sucks to have to move and pay such high rent

Holy cuteness, batman. She is precious!!! I am so jealous of your mortgage. We live in a big city and the housing here is insanely high (partially due to the nearly 3% property tax!!) but my husband's job makes it worth it to live here. He absolutely loves his work & thankfully it provides for us to live here. I just cringe thinking about how much we have to pay here for housing.

I have wanted to ask 2 things: 1) have you tried cloth diapering and do you feel like disposables just work better, or are easier as a mom? (We will be a family of 6 in June and I'm a tired Mama)
    2) should tithe be counted into the giving category?
Thanks and love how big your kiddos have gotten!! Such a beautiful family and such blessings in your home

I clothed diapered for 2.5 years and I hated every second of it.

Your utilities are excellent but could be better. I'm not you but here is my example. Electric: $40, water: $28, Cell phone: $25 internet: $70. no big secret. Installed $4000 solar array, collect rainwater for showering, washing clothes and gardening. installed Incinerating Toilet using no water. add ashes to the garden for fertilizer. switched to mint mobile for cell phones. well on my way of being 100% off grid

My mortgage payment is lower than yours lol.. I live in a rural place in AZ so I feel you on choosing to live in a lower cost area. It makes more financial sense. 😀

Our mortgage is killing us. Only been here 2 years and unfortunately income has changed and have had tons of unexpected medical bills. Been torn between just hanging in there and getting caught up or uprooting our entire lives to sell and move!

Please do not feel like you need to justify your sons therapy. Our daughter is special needs and our school district is amazing. We have never needed to pay for other therapy. I used to pay for extra reading tutor. And it was money well spent. It helped her learn to read and now she doesn’t have any problems
