I love Dave. He tells the truth and how it is. He is sympathetic towards college students because he knows that we were misguided at 18 yrs old. I think Dave will want you to take care of your mental health and grief first and be on the right mindset before looking at this mess.

I’m sorry for your loss. I am also sorry you were treated that way by the Ramsey family.
I do follow Dave and his teachings have helped me through a lot I’ve never paid anything for his teachings and he makes nothing from me except maybe a few Pennie’s from the adds on RUclips. Tons of his info is free and the books can be checked out at the library. He can be rude and abrupt some days towards people I believe he probably gets fed up hearing the same things everyday from people and yet they are not changing their behavior just continuing on getting more into debt or making bad decisions. It’s not an excuse for rudeness or meanness he just reminds me of someone’s old know it all grandpa he has good advice but not always the best delivery.
What helps me is #1 writing down the basics rent/utilities/food/ medications always are first on the budget after that I can add in things like car, subscriptions. As long as you can cover the basics anything left is where you have that chance to pay the debt off.
Being focused about your money and dealing with your grief are very important things. Many people make very bad financial decisions while grief stricken so I’m glad to hear that you’re seeing a therapist and taking care of yourself.

I felt that when you described the huge amount of money that is required to go to school as feeling imaginary; the same with how much money can be earned with a career. Without experience, I just assumed it would balance out.
I know the debt feels overwhelming, but don't give up hope that you'll be debt free one day.

I would also reach out to your military benefits and see if there is a portion they can cover for the end of life celebration.
If they don’t have anything I would reach out to the family or even just write a letter to them asking if since they received the life insurance and life insurance is supposed to be used for assistance with the funeral costs.
I would copy and send them the bill. Make it a very professional letter don’t add emotions or anything in it just a simple reaching out. The executor of his estate should be paying for this from life insurance money and anything like retirement benefits /stocks etc.
They may surprise you if you send them the bill.

I understand, I was so happy to go to school that I really didn't understand about private colleges. I knee it cost alot, but I thought that was normal. Growing up I always heard college was expensive anyways. But , I was able to tell my daughters these things, I learned the hard way. Student loans was the only way I was able to go to school. Back then the internet wasn't so widely used. My senior year of high school we still got pamphlets and brochures in the mail about the school. I applied for several scholarships. But was unable to get them. My family was not able to help. So, had no choice. So, it was an expensive lesson, but it allowed me to give my girls info that wasn't given to me.

The parents didn't think to provide you with anything from the life insurance? The life insurance is $400,000 for active duty military personnel. They could have given you $100,000 easy.

I feel very alone. Im 44 years old.
My ex-husband chose his parents over me and his kids. I have a two bedroom apartment. I just started working as a cna in april 2024.
Last July 2023 i left the motel where we were living to get into this apartment. He pays $124 every other week for child support.
Why do i miss him so much. Why do i still love him. Im paying off debt and paying my bills. I could never be who i wanted with him.

I don't want to be rude, I know it's a painful situation for them too, but could your in-laws help you financially? They knew you were married, maybe they can transfer the benefits or something?
