It's very brave of you Carol, to put yourself out like that on the internet. People behind a keyboard can be very mean. I think your 5yr plan is doable, especially if you & your mom continue to share expenses. There will be months where it will seem like you're never going to get ahead but you will get through it. You had the determination & brains to complete your current courses so this will be no problem for you. It'll take will power and determination for sure, but it will feel so great when you're out from under this burden. When we had lots of debt I used to watch episodes of Oprah's Debt Diet series. Regular folks with lots of debt just working their repayment plans. Good luck!
Carol Ann you are doing great! The biggest steps in debt reduction is knowing exactly what your debt is and then recognizing your part in it (which we all make bad decisions along the road of life). And then taking responsibility. You have a doable plan. My only suggestion is continue to put some money aside for fun and hobbies otherwise it is like a diet if there are not treats along the way you will eat the whole cake. 😁👏🏻 I am cheering you on!
I love your attitude toward your debt. You could feel defeated easily, but coming up with a plan is the key to getting it paid off in a reasonable amount of time. I feel like a lot of people avoid confronting debt which makes it worse. Having a written plan also encourages you by seeing your progress. I love how supportive Lisa is although I am sure it is hard to see you have that much debt. I'm sure it is freeing for her to see you tackle it head on. Your education is definitely worth the investment! Thanks for your service in the health care industry who needs more people like you!
You can definitely do it. It sucks, but it’s really a short time. Hopefully, your income will increase along the way and you will be able to speed things up.
woo those student loan interests rates are rough on those lower balances. I am currently in my own payoff journey for my doctorate of Physical Therapy degree and I also started out in the 6 figures so I feel you, you're doing great!
You can go in and get the extended warranty removed! They will just prorate it and put the difference to your principal! I didnt know this and regretted the warranty immediately
Great video ❤ thanks for sharing it's a lot of debt but you did it towards your carrier you didn't just throw all the money at frivolous stuff you are doing a great job and you can pay it off by 5 years you got this
Your mom is HILARIOUS! Love it when she enters the room full of personality 😂. Yeah those student loans can be brutal, but the financial return is definitely worth it! Good luck 🙌🏽
That is actually a pretty good amount for getting a doctorate! I have a master degree in clinical psychology, emphasizing and developmentally delayed youth and my entire degree came in at just under 144,000 and that doesn’t even include a doctorate degree! Have you ever thought of maybe running Uber as a driver for a couple of days a week as a side hustle? Only reason I ask is it would help you pay down your consumer debt even faster without taking that money out of your paycheck and just using it out of your side hustle as an Uber driver, even if it’s only for a couple of days a week? My daughters boyfriend used to work for Uber And I believe he was clearing $800 a week Uber and I know some areas are more populated and heavy needed Uber drivers and others, but maybe it be something to look into so that the money in your paycheck can either go to student loans or savings just suggestion! Congratulations on how far you come super exciting that you’re going to be enrolling in a PhD program. You have done very well and should be very very proud of yourself.
Thank you! I have tried the Uber thing, only got a few orders and tips $1-2 per trip so it wasn’t worth it for my area. And I’m sure not driving any strangers around. I’ve been scoring on extra shifts in the ER though!
Carol Ann you have an excellent plan to pay off your debt! Just like you diligently completed your master's program, you will pay off your debt , and complete your doctoral program, and then pay that off! You Can Do It! ❤🙏🏼🔥🌹
I would never have been able to afford college without loans. It was worth it to me to have my career and was a good move for me. Now my kids have loans but I’m not too worried about it. They will chip away at them.
A long shot but can you return the Best Buy products? Or sell them back? I’ve made some “want” things on Amazon, felt a lot of guilt afterward and was able to return them.
Nothing wrong with buying something for your enjoyment. Instead of a credit card start stuffing an envelope to reach that buy goal. If things haven’t gone to hell in a hand basket there’s nothing wrong with rewarding yourself for all your hard work.
Can you pull extra shifts for OT pay? Or just extra pay? Say 2 shifts a month and 100% of the extra shifts goes to debt….Plus whatever you put from regular pay
I work in healthcare and was taking every extra shift or overtime I could get and it still wasn’t enough. I was able to find a second job at a nearby hospital. That was what really made the difference to help me pay off my student loans. I used to work every day and only take 1-2 days off a month.
@@LisaMarieBudgets If you don't mind me asking whats your age. Always look for budget stuff to show my children so they get can see examples of peoples debt and how to out of it.
Carol Ann, like all the other newly minted PA's out there, you will soon start picking up extra shifts, especially on weekends and holidays, and your income will skyrocket. You'll wrangle those student loans into the dust in no time.
Congrats new grad! Im a PA as well (20 years in). Just curious why you are going for the doctorate? If you are working have you checked with your employer to see if they may cover some of the cost.
Yes, but people hardly actually get the student loan forgiveness from research to have done into the subject. Therefore, I’m going to try to pay off as soon as possible to avoid hundreds of thousands of dollars in interest.
You can do it Carol Ann! I'm glad to see someone taking responsibility instead of just relying on student loan forgiveness and letting the tax payers foot the bill for their education. ❤❤❤❤❤
let's not talk about loan forgiveness I really don't want to pay ANYONE'S school loans off. Biden has done enough damage on the middle class. How many people have worked their butts off with multiple jobs and loans and paid ALL THEIR LOANS off? Can we have mortgage forgiveness? How about credit card forgiveness? I know anyone wanna pay off my dag gone medical bills? Yeah! Medical bill forgiveness!!! You have me hot under the collar.
@@littlebug1026.. loan forgiveness plans have been around way before President Biden. HRSA is a government loan repayment due service in a facility, FQHC, that normally serves uninsured & underinsured. Republicans created the program.
After further investigation, a lot of people who qualify don’t receive forgiveness 😭 therefore, paying off as soon as possible is now the plan to avoid paying hundreds of thousands in interest!
Hi Will you be saving for a emergency fund Everyone says $1000 but with today’s economy try saving a years wage In the long run banks and government loans are not doing you a favor they will suck you dry All the best watching from Bermuda 🇧🇲 ❤
You're a little misguided. It is said to *start* with 1,000$ emergency fund. Typically that goes with the next step of 3-6 months of living expenses saved up
@patriciadurham815 Dave Ramsey suggests a $1000 emergency fund during debt repayment. As a single, I learned the hard way that $1000 was not enough but Carol Ann's situation is different than mine.
I am shocked you ran up credit cards for wants after having a mom who has been frugal and budgets to the penny. You need to listen to Dave Ramsey and read his book the Total Money Makeover. A car for $20,000 are you kidding me. You could have gotten a Toyota or Honda for $5000. At this rate you will be in debt until you retire. What a shame.
No room for negativity here. Car was $15,000, not $20k. Prior car was having problems weekly and cost thousands to fix every little thing. For the credit cards, everyone makes their own mistakes and learns from them in their own time. Yes, I bought a PlayStation. Oh well. Lesson learned. $2000 credit card bill is nothing compared to student loan debt. I plan to pay the car off in 6-8 months. I have an excellent job now that I’ll be able to buy anything I desire with time. And I listen to Dave Ramsey daily.
It would have been a VERY old Toyota/Honda for 5000. We have bought both recently, put $10K down and still needed loans. And the Toyota was 8 years old at the time.
That's rude and wholly innacurate. With her income, if needed; she could pay that car off in less than a year- yep she just confirmed that as I'm watching lol! Once she gets her PhD she'll be clearing even MORE per year - she can have that paid off in

Love the transparency, we need more of this in the community, you got this! 🎉❤

She should be making double that with that degree.
Happy Friday! Thanks for sharing your updates! Cheering you on!
You are focused and have a great example to guide you. Excited to see this happen. Have a great weekend ladies.

How about pay the highest interest first then move down the list
Again a great video you and your mom are awesome people. Glad to get to watch your video. I will be debt the end of next year.
It’s crazy how expensive education is in the US! Education is free in Germany! 😢
I'm so proud of you. 💚
Y'all had me at 7:34❤. New Subbie! Ms. Lisa got me😊
Go into the light carol ann!!!!!!😂😂😂 im sure u get that alot
Consider working for a FQHC and apply for a HRSA loan repayment program.
I have looked and applied into jobs that pay student loans, however, when I was offered my dream job in Emergency Medicine, I couldn’t pass it up!
Coffee with Carol Ann

Will you be still be saving for the house and do you have your emergency fund?
I have a step one $1000 in emergency savings. I also have my emergency savings box that I had all of my one dollar and five dollar bills to every week
❤ Wishing you the best of luck and I feel like you have a great plan for your debt ❤

Great job Carol Ann. You have a big shovel and great determination. 🎉
I’m a dietitian and I have a couple of dietitian friends that went back to school to be a PA so much debt But so much happier
Can you pull extra shifts for OT pay? Or just extra pay? Say 2 shifts a month and 100% of the extra shifts goes to debt….Plus whatever you put from regular pay
I already work a few extra shifts per month. Have asked for more but I do not control the schedule.

Hello, have you thought to consolidate your student loans.
So its effectively 10 years out of the market, 5 toward paying off, and 5 years lost savings

I’m going for doctorate for myself and nope they don’t cover it!
Would you be eligible for any kind of forgiveness program because of your job Carol?
Yes, but people hardly actually get the student loan forgiveness from research to have done into the subject. Therefore, I’m going to try to pay off as soon as possible to avoid hundreds of thousands of dollars in interest.
Can you pay best buy's balance using capital one? Since capital one offers 0 interest.
She’s credit card debt free now. 🥳🥳
Love it

What planner are you using?
It's The Budget Mom's Workbook.
