My husband is a big change saver. He will pick up every penny you see on the street and put it in his pocket. We dont have a counting jar but we put them in a big container and go change the money every november for Christmas/our kids birthday(dec 30). We usually have around $700 which is nice lol

My father used to keep all his bills in his wallet facing the same way from highest dollar amount to the smallest. ( hundred dollar bills down to one dollar bills) One day, when putting dollar bills back into his wallet from change he got at the supermarket, he said to me that if I respect money, money will respect me. That even includes a penny. Respect that penny! Look at how Kumiko respects her change. Even those pennies in the cup. They're not floating in the bottom of her purse, or rattling around on the floor of her car. Shes putting those pennies to good use for her son. Respect your money!
I love the 52 week savings challenge!! Ive done it the past year but I dont always go in order. Some weeks I may make a little more than others or get money from somewhere and on those weeks I will go ahead and knock out those higher dollar challenge weeks! Then when funds get tight I can do the super small ones and I dont have to miss a week
Good tips. The 52 week will not work for me since I get paid semi-monthly AND I never go to the bank to get cash. So, I tweaked it by transferring $5 to savings as soon as my paycheck hits my account. That's on top of the $10 I send to the offspring's account. It's not much, but it feels good to see it all add up.
I get paid monthly and what I do is I pull out $100 a month and put it in a jar after 12 months you have $1200 every year you add $1200 so in 5 years you will have $6000
My bank has the option that when you use your card it will round the charge up to the next dollar and put the difference (so basically the change) into a separate account. I love it.

I do a slight variation of the 52 week money savings challenge every year. Instead of saving money that corresponds to the week, I use a random number generator on Google to randomly order numbers 1through 52. That way the big amounts are spread out. Sometimes in the latter part of the year, it can be a challenge saving over $200 extra per month, even though it's only $48, $50, etc. per week. By having the numbers random, I still save a set amount each week, but it's a little more evened out.
I really like this idea 💡 I agree towards the end of the year is bumpy saving $40+ a week, so having it evened out I can knock out the bigger numbers earlier in the year, the middle and a little bit towards the end 😀

New sub. My fun methods of saving are: Pots that you can’t empty which I know as a terramundi pot. I have several but specifically one in which I save all of my £2 coins and one that takes all of my 20 pence coins. £2 currently £1,288.00 and 20 pences currently £189.80. It still amazes me how much small change adds up and how I don’t miss it. I just started a new terramundi which I found in a charity shop for £3. This one will take all of my 50 pence coins. This has become a real hobby for me lol. I also do what I call the £5 £10 £15 £20 challenge. In 4 week blocks I save these notes in turn. At the end of 52 weeks, one year, I have £650.00. This takes little effort and forethought. I found the 52 week challenge I saw on RUclips too daunting when I realised in weeks 49 50 51 and 52 I would have to save a total exceeding £200. That was scary. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. You make budgeting very interesting and at almost 65, I’m not too old to learn. Regards Jane Nottingham England x
did the small change thing this month and had almost 50 euros in there :) so am pretty pleased about that... have to look into the other challenges though :P they seem like fun and with the easier amounts it should be doable. had to increase my food budget last month since all the grocceries got more expensive since we also need more fresh fruits and veggies for our toddler...ah well at least with these little savings challenges we can still save some although not extremely much :) but every little bit helps big time.
Thank you for this! My mother works 2 jobs and lives pay check to pay check with no money saved up. I am going to give her the 52week challenge one to try! Even putting a dollar away when you can adds up!
I started the Five One Dollar challenge in 2019 and am still going today. My total is over 5k in fives and over 3k in ones. I also done the ten challenge, I save 2 dollar bills. My last two challenge is 100 Envelopes challenge 2022 have 10 more Envelopes to go and My 2023 100 Envelopes 20 dollars a week challenge

Yesterday I decided I want to be debt free of credit cards and loans by the end of 2022! I have this confidence because of you! Weeks of BBP has changed my life!!
I'm saving money as well as paying off my debt. I"m trying to get debt free in 3 years. However, I love challenges and your 52 week one, seems reasonable as well as the three month Christmas money challenge. I always overspend during the holidays. This should hopefully keep me on track.
Im doing the save the change challenge. I have over $50 already rolled up. 😍 I love your videos! You have helped so much! Ive been here watching for the past 3 years. So happy for you and your success!
Just do the calendar like she shows on one of her other videos...you use different color markers and put your bills on there...The title of video is "the budget that changed my life"..
i'm on once a month as well. what i do it add what comes in. add up what goes out. subtract. what's left is divided by 4 and that's all i have for the week. once you know your weekly budget, you can see where you can save and put money away. what bills can go? i don't have cable, just internet and netflix. saves me over $100 a month
I save my change, $1's, and $5's. I love the 12 week Christmas challenge and will use that to cover Christmas dinner and Black Friday/Cyber Monday shopping. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks Kamika. I have my Christmas fund, but completely forgot about budgeting for Christmas Dinner. Maybe I will save for Black Friday, and Cyber Monday also.☺
Thank you for sharing your challenges. I've been saving $5 bills over the past ten years after a friend mentioned that he always set aside $5 bills. I initially thought he was being super extravagant, not spending any $5s. However, after trying it myself, I found it to be a rather painless way to set aside money. About five years ago, I started depositing the $5s into a holiday account at our credit union at the end of each month. I also set aside any brand new bills (must be completely flat, no wrinkles or folds) that I receive. New bills funded my emergency fund and paid for a trip to FL. When saving change, I enjoy setting up mini goals such as setting aside every coin minted the year my daughter was born or quarters from the year I graduated.
I think a great challenge to do is parents against children. It’s reaching the goal not amounts. Picking up change, extra jobs, etc. I would suggest doing it for Birthdays/Christmas and vacations. If they like saving, then have them save for college or a car+expenses. Make is a project/game to achieve goals.
I love this video. I will try these challenges. Maybe not the 5$ one though because my income is low. You have mentioned in a couple if videos that in the beginning you may barely have gas or food money after bills. Please tell me more about how you came so far in just a few years to be debt free and buy a home. I want to have hope that I can become debt free.
Love it! I already do the change thing; but will add the 12 week Christmas Challenge soon (will pay for special holiday groceries) and will start the 52 weekChallenge in January. Small victories are big steps!
I remember seeing that first version of the 52 week savings goal where when you got to the later weeks in the year the amount to save each week was, at least for me, HUGE. Yours does seem to be workable.
When I was in the Army stationed in Korea I saved all dollar bills and change for the year I was there. I was able to buy Christmas gifts with it when I was back stateside.
Love the little challenges! Something fun we do is save all the dollar bills with letters that correspond to our kids/nephews names! It only goes to the middle of the alphabet so we use some middle names. Can’t wait to see what it adds up to and they get a fun stack of bills with one of their initials!
I think this is great that you showed this. It gives us beginner budgeters some simple ways to get started savings and making better saving habits in smaller steps.
I started out with two 16 oz pop bottles one penny's the other dimes. I supper glued lids on after cutting a slot. Only I never know how much is in my bank's
To tweak the $5 challenge if you are not using cash, could be every time your balance in your account ends in $5 you transfer the $5 to a savings account. So you check in after your bills come out, or you use your card and if say $365 was left, then you transfer $5.
Omggg it's like you read my mind! I really wanted to participate in your saving challenges but sometimes I can't with my budget! Thank you for making this video!
I love you’re saving challenges! I’m going to start the 12 weeks challenge for Christmas. And also I’m going to do the 52 weeks challenge at the first of the year. Thank you so much for helping people to help them save with a small budget. Keep doing what you doing. You’re videos has got me to really help me to start saving. ❤️
This was an awesome video. You covered my excuses regarding the 5.00 Challenge. Which I will start tomorrow. I will also start the 12 wk Christmas fund. I am proud of myself for starting the 52wk challenge 2 months ago. It's a great feeling thank you!
I have a Christmas cash envelope/sinking fund that put $60 a month into so I don't need to worry about it :) I was OBSESSED with savings challenges (7 to be exact) a couple of years ago, but I adjusted them to fit me (I always round it up to a whole number $2,000/$3,000, etc).
I have been putting the $5's, $2's and $1's aside in a large gift box which I glued shut with craft glue.....starting this was hard but once I started to see how heavy the box was getting. Now it's habit to still save this way
I just want you to know I have literally been watching all of you're videos with in the last week and I love everything you are about and you're methods are serious about to change my life. Thank you for what you do
I'm doing the 52 week challenge right now but have given myself liberty to mix up a larger month one week and then back to a small one the next week. That way the overall months are a little more even and I have a reminder in my phone that each week, I have to pick a box to check off. My giant jar started off with a little extra and I throw in any extra dollars or change throughout the month too so hopefully I will be over that $1300+ mark at the end of the year. Just another way to look at it.
If you take an old jar you can make a slit in the lid and then glue the lid on or seal it with wax or something that makes it hard to get into and that makes it less tempting to take it out before it's done
Small income, single income. My top is to have a weekly grocery budget. Shop the sales & try to keep it under budget. Transfer the $$$ I saved into an internet bank account I can’t touch and that’s my Christmas money❤️ it makes shopping more fun instead of a chore! In
Starting small could be a 30 day saving. Day 1 add 1coin, Day 2 add 2 coins till on Day30 add 30 coins. A penny would give $4.65 a month but if you done it each month for 1 year it would be $55.80. Nickel = $23.25 Month and $279.00 Year. Dime = M $46.50 and Y $558.00. Quarter = m $116.00 and Y $1,393.00. Do all for a year it is $2,335.80. Not bad for change.
I thank God for coming across ur video Miko😊. You explain things so well and because i am a low income earner with a side hustle, i find i can completely work with your formulas. Very simple and do-able. I've been saving but with no records😢 and now all thanks to you i know HOW to record and categorise each of my savings🎉 and that helps me to know how far off i am or close i am towards my goal
I saved all coins last year and at end of year I had 35$ saved up . It was coins which would have been tossed away like that . I spend 35$ on Christmas gifts .My point is save whatever you can, spend wherever you want to enjoy .
I love all these savings challenges. The one thing I'd like to mention for the 52 week challenge is, did you ever consider inverting it? I know in January, being so committed to NY resolutions I can easily find $52, 51, 50 and 49 to save (especially with XMas gifts). I feel like its much harder to find those sums of money in December with the holidays. (I also fully recognize that it's a 52 week challenge that one could realistically start today and have it go July to July) but just something to consider....
I started with saving coins. Then, $1 savings challenge followed by $5 savings challenge. Now I’m working toward a goal that’s still small, but bigger than those. I’m addicted now 🤭
Thank you sharing you saving ideas. You are a smart and loving mom. I love that you are prioritizing to save for your son's future. ♥ God bless you and your son. Thank you for helping others with practical saving tips.
COVID has thrown a HUGE curveball in my savings plans. In the UK most retailers will no longer accept cash so everything is done by card and therefore I don’t have change to save. I think I’ve had £5 in cash since March. Is anyone else feeling the same?
Yes and I don't like it. I like cash. I do have a Lloyd's bank account and signed up for an automatic 'Save the Change' function which rounds up transactions and put the change into my savers account - bit of a joke due to the interest rate - but I never miss any money and it does add up nicely.
I always thought of having a saving box with a combination pad lock on it and what you do is put in 1 dollar and then you get 10 tries to figure out the combination to the pad lock to open the box for the savings. By the time you figure out the combination, your bound to have quite a bit of savings money inside the box. If the max number on the combination lock is 39. And if it takes 3 numbers to open the combination lock, and if you get 10 tries to open the lock, the odds of cracking the code would be 1-5932 times before it'll be solved. This box is meant to be for only 1 person unless you don't mind letting someone else get the funds from out of the box, after you put a lot into this box.
That jar is $30 idk how i feel about breaking it open and never being able to reuse it lol..i bought a benjamin franklin money jar for $2.99 at my local dollar store and you have to use a can opener to break into it..that's much more economical lol..im currently doing the $1 challenge with my jar right now.
I have devised a unique savings plan, and that is to save 100 notes of every money denomination. So 100 notes of the ones, 100 notes of the fives and so on. By the time you do every denominations saving a hundred notes, you'll wind up with $18,600. I just started and all I have so far is 100 notes of the ones, and 100 notes of the Fives and started on the tens. Then once I accumulated 100 notes of a particular denomination, I'll put a money label around it. Can't wait to save. It's addictive.
I love save the change... this is something I did for my second to youngest nephew when he graduated from highschool and he had a pretty nice little chunk of change when he graduated and soon I'll be doing the same for my youngest nephew....
My Nana always told me as a child, "don't mix old money with new money", meaning when you get change put it in a jar. As soon as i get change, I put it in my piggy bank.
I don't live in the us, so I don't have any $, but I save nearly every € coin I get in the change. I have a can for 1€ coins, a can for 1, 2, 5 cent and a can for the penny-challenge. I do this every year and it gives my a "financial pillow" to rest on. My cans are like your jar, they have only one opening at the top to put the money in and such a can cost me only 1€. I would never buy this jar from Amazon, it's too expensive.
The thing I didn’t like about 52 wk was the drastic difference in the anount I’d have to come up with between beginning and end. So I did mine like bingo style . Or 20 a week on average
Would love to know the brand name of an accurate coin-counting jar. From the reviews on Amazon, it looks like none of them are accruate. Have you found one that is accurate?
No need to glue the lid - just exercise some self-control. When I was a to let saving change, I got to be pretty hood at estimating how much was in a jar.
When I decided to pay attention to saving I had to start small not due to budget constraints but because I wasn't disciplined. I had to build up the habits first. Then it became an addiction lol.

I'm saving money as well as paying off my debt. I"m trying to get debt free in 3 years. However, I love challenges and your 52 week one, seems reasonable as well as the three month Christmas money challenge. I always overspend during the holidays. This should hopefully keep me on track.
As a mom of a college student I can say SAVE SAVE SAVE!!!
They grow up fast 936 weeks and they are grown6
Im doing the save the change challenge. I have over $50 already rolled up. 😍
I love your videos! You have helped so much! Ive been here watching for the past 3 years. So happy for you and your success!
I would like to see a budget for once a month payday with a lower income.
Create your own...I get paid once a month as well and I’m saving my age and child’s age monthly!
Just do the calendar like she shows on one of her other videos...you use different color markers and put your bills on there...The title of video is "the budget that changed my life"..
Me to 🙂
i'm on once a month as well. what i do it add what comes in. add up what goes out. subtract. what's left is divided by 4 and that's all i have for the week. once you know your weekly budget, you can see where you can save and put money away. what bills can go? i don't have cable, just internet and netflix. saves me over $100 a month
Maybe I will save for Black Friday, and Cyber Monday also.☺
You are welcome Linda ☺
Saving all my dimes for my grandsons college fund have been doing it for two years
Thank you for sharing your challenges.
The past few years I’ve done the 52 week challenge with doubling the numbers and you are right, it makes for a great emergency fund!
Reverse the challenge. I have more money in January than the holidays.
This definitely opened my eyes on how easy it is to save 🤦🏻♀️ thank you♥️
When I was in the Army stationed in Korea I saved all dollar bills and change for the year I was there. I was able to buy Christmas gifts with it when I was back stateside.
Thanks Miko. I've just started doing this in July.
I already have just over $100 in $2coins.
Saving change makes so much difference 🙂
Love the little challenges! Something fun we do is save all the dollar bills with letters that correspond to our kids/nephews names! It only goes to the middle of the alphabet so we use some middle names. Can’t wait to see what it adds up to and they get a fun stack of bills with one of their initials!
I think this is great that you showed this. It gives us beginner budgeters some simple ways to get started savings and making better saving habits in smaller steps.
I started out with two 16 oz pop bottles one penny's the other dimes. I supper glued lids on after cutting a slot. Only I never know how much is in my bank's
I get so many 1s its crazy... so 1 dollar challenge is also amazing 👏
To tweak the $5 challenge if you are not using cash, could be every time your balance in your account ends in $5 you transfer the $5 to a savings account. So you check in after your bills come out, or you use your card and if say $365 was left, then you transfer $5.
This video is great. I love how you talk about saving money as a habit. That is what I am working on also!!!
Tip # 1 for saving your money, start paying cash for your purchases.

Great idea tho in this Covid era and the promotion of card purchase only, how would this be achieved?
@@NordicQueen12 Debit cards will achieve the same result, you can only spend what you have.
Omggg it's like you read my mind! I really wanted to participate in your saving challenges but sometimes I can't with my budget! Thank you for making this video!
Great video! A little but add to a lot. I love how you expressed that saving money is a habit. We have to get into the habit of savings.
I think many of them need to see this video. You explain so well logically and effortlessly. We all should start saving and follow your tips. 4:00 👍🏼
I had done a ₹5/-challenge that would end Dec it's wonderful experience on looking at the money grow even though it's slow
I’m going to follow you this year. Happy New Year. I bought the clear jar you have and that was the best idea I seen. Thank you
I have been putting the $5's, $2's and $1's aside in a large gift box which I glued shut with craft glue.....starting this was hard but once I started to see how heavy the box was getting.
Now it's habit to still save this way
That jar costs $24. No way. And the counting jars are very nice, but they cost around $11 each. Not possible for those on a limited budget.
Just use a large glass jar instead. Or go to a local cafe/restaurant and see if they are throwing one out.
Yes. I consider those money wasted. That’s 45 I could use somewhere else. I am able to count and roll coins. I have free jars and can glue lids on.
I’m on Board for Both savings challenges. Kinda excited too.
I just want you to know I have literally been watching all of you're videos with in the last week and I love everything you are about and you're methods are serious about to change my life. Thank you for what you do
You are the best miko , l watched your videos again and again and every time i watch them i learn again, thank you so much
I'm doing the 52 week challenge right now but have given myself liberty to mix up a larger month one week and then back to a small one the next week.
So glad I found this!! I want to save but have very minimal money so I’m excited. ☺️
I bought a little toy atm machine, it comes with a card, makes it fun for my son!
This is a fantastic idea
I thank God for coming across ur video Miko😊. You explain things so well and because i am a low income earner with a side hustle, i find i can completely work with your formulas. Very simple and do-able. I've been saving but with no records😢 and now all thanks to you i know HOW to record and categorise each of my savings🎉 and that helps me to know how far off i am or close i am towards my goal
Love the methodical way, you explain things and why. Easy to follow and listen to you. Thank you. I appreciate you. Subbed. 😊💖 #ManyBlessings
Love the 52 week money saving challenge because it's very doable!
Great idea, actually. I think I’m going to invert it and start with the larger amounts first. Thanks.
I started with saving coins. Then, $1 savings challenge followed by $5 savings challenge. Now I’m working toward a goal that’s still small, but bigger than those. I’m addicted now 🤭
Awesome video- I’m a single mom and this is so inspiring.
These are such great ways to start building the habit of saving! I love that you're sharing your worksheets, too!
Thank you for acknowledging small budgets and that even small savings totals can be a real triumph for some.
Thank you sharing you saving ideas. You are a smart and loving mom. I love that you are prioritizing to save for your son's future. ♥ God bless you and your son. Thank you for helping others with practical saving tips.
Those are great challenges still relevant to today. Small change adds up to big money.
I love that you are making budgeting cool! And you are helping so many people!
By the time you do every denominations
saving a hundred notes, you'll wind up with $18,600. I just started and all I have so far is 100 notes of
the ones, and 100 notes of the Fives and started on the tens. Then once I accumulated 100 notes
of a particular denomination, I'll put a money label around it. Can't wait to save. It's addictive.
I love save the change... this is something I did for my second to youngest nephew when he graduated from highschool and he had a pretty nice little chunk of change when he graduated and soon I'll be doing the same for my youngest nephew....
My first savings challenges was last year and it was so much fun. Thank you for all your encouragement.
I love the 52 week one! Sounds like a great on to try next year.
Can you do a video on saving food your children’s future? College funds, etc. Thank you!
Very informative. Its a changing my mindset to make saving natural. I have a tight income and i spend way too much! 🤦🏾
Saving is definately a challenge in those trying times we are living into.
I’m doing the coin challenge , $1 challenge and leftover challenge. This video encouraged me to try the 52 week challenge. Thanks so much
Good ideas. It all starts with proper budgeting and planning and anything is within your reach.
The thing I didn’t like about 52 wk was the drastic difference in the anount I’d have to come up with between beginning and end. So I did mine like bingo style . Or 20 a week on average
I did it backwards! Starting at $52!
I like the bingo style.
Would love to know the brand name of an accurate coin-counting jar. From the reviews on Amazon, it looks like none of them are accruate. Have you found one that is accurate?
Great suggestions! This is such an important topic to be discussing. I really enjoyed the video!
Dame your a genus as of Friday 23 October I'm starting the 52 week and lose change one. As to try and stop me buying crap and junk food.
i love these ideas. i do have a question, with there being a coin shortage, how has this affected your cash only system
The “coin shortage” feels rather contrived. I’ve only seen the chains impacted by the “shortage” - how does that make sense?
You are doing this in conjunction with envelopes and sinking funds, right?
It’s a $30 jar though... maybe better to repurpose a random jar and glue the lid?
She literally said it could be any jar...
I get empty wine bottles from friends
No need to glue the lid - just exercise some self-control. When I was a to let saving change, I got to be pretty hood at estimating how much was in a jar.
