The part where she says she heard autotune there was none. That was a natural part of his voice. There is one part in the middle of the song where they apply a bit of auto tune and you can see it in the reaction on his face.

You people are so full of nonsense. What you're hearing wasn't even from the show taping itself, it was recorded during rehearsal. If he actually didn't know it was being used, they could have started again from the top. It was used because they don't have the guts to perform an actual live performance for television. I'm also assuming the instrumentation included a pre-recorded backing track.

What a load of crap. Stop making apologies and excuses for that guy. The album version used computer-altered vocals, too. Was he sick during the studio sessions, too? Just stop it. The bottom line is it's preposterous to analyze his vocals while performing this song, his vocal performance is 100-percent computer automation. Pick a different song using his vocals, one that hasn't been processed by technology like a microwaved piece of rancid meat. Although I get the sense finding one would be extremely challenging to locate.

This is my favorite rendition of this song. His interpretation truly brings out the true meaning of the lyrics. Simon and Garfunkel sang to alarm us, Disturbed sings to give us a final warning. You should watch the original music video of it when you get a chance. It is as beautiful as it is haunting. As for this performance, David had the flu when he sang that evening.

It sounds like he likes the higher part of his range (high baritone) and he needs to be careful if he moves down the scale. Like I said in another comment I think the arrangement of "Silence" was terrible and now I feel sure that if he sang it in a better key, maybe d minor, without the useless octave shift, he would do a great job.

I was just wondering that point today and there was your video in my feed! When he sings Sound of Silence he is so animated and present. Lots of expression and power in the right places, lots of variation. But when he talks in comparison, to me it is almost a different person. He sounds relaxed and even, almost too chilled, very gentle and unconcerned. I was expecting some kind of dynamic when he spoke, something that sits me up to listen in the right places. His speaking voice seems so disconnected from his singing presence. Even when he introduces himself at the beginning of his talks its just completely so nonchalant and unassuming. Leaves me wanting that "I am David Draiman and...." that sits me up and says "have I got your interest and attention?" I guess that is because of the hit his cover gives with such rich perfection and variations and animation, leaves one an addict for more. That being said the contrast of performance and person helps not to stereotype the "person with the actor". He seems like a really nice person, calm, kind, thoughtful, intelligent and somewhat detached in a healthy way. Bit like a Buddha Draiman. The contrast blows my mind as much as his cover song. 🙃😄

I've seen many comments on this version of this song (because it's sublime and this version is an instant 'tingle-factor' classic), including many, many from voice coaches, but your reaction and technical comments really nail it ... except from the part where so many of us are brought to tears by the raw emotion... and this mastery of arrangement and voice and performance (plus the intelligent and prescient mastery of songwriting of Paul Simon) must surely mark this as one of the .ist sensitive and intelligent covers ever.

The autotune is very limited, not at all in the low range. He was very sick, could barely stand (which is why he is sitting on a stool, the band was worried about him). In the third stanza, there is just a touch of autotune. He was not aware of it, and was quite rightly angered by the usage. He doesn't need it! You only wish you had his talent. You can do your coaching but never make it on your own...

Stop pausing we don't need comments every 10 seconds. It's super annoying.

I understand you must pause and I Respect your critique. But you stopped so much; if a listener wasn't already very familiar with the song, it's a disservice. If you are a fan it's SO frustrating.
Should have played thru the song once beforehand.

she is commenting on his technique. not gushing on and on about how great he may be or whatever. it is what exactly makes him great. subtle things it appears.

The auto tune could be a couple of things. Obvious choice it could be producers choice since it is a live version, on TV. Or it could have been because he did have the flu during this performance.

Yes, he and his brother did have lessons - but if your spirit isn’t in it, you can NEVER touch the entire world - only yourself! You don’t exactly think that you are less than worthy of entertaining family do you???
This man can touch your soul much like Simon and Garfunkel
They touched my soul always - even before my teens
Don’t criticize unless you wrote the song, perform it yourself (I believe you said no one liked it.
Honey the rest of us have loved Simon and Garfunkel since the beginning. And yes, even Paul Simon complimented David and said he thought it was the best EVER!

I can't give my own opinion of the song because you are analyzing every two words. How about listening to the song as a whole before stopping every 10 seconds.
