You can even can a jar or two, all you need is a jar and lid, seal it up and keep it for months!!! I don't know about freezing some, but I might try the next time I make it. I tried your recipe and did it exactly like you showed on your video.....only one difference.....I did it in an Instant Pot. It worked fantastic, as, I sauteed the onions and hamburger I dumped in all the ingredients into the pot and pressure cooked it for 20 minutes, let it naturally de-compress for 10 minutes and it turned out absolutely fantastic....added the cheese and it was delicious. I left the pot on warm setting and the rest is history. I loved cabbage rolls as a kid, but, they are work intensive, but this was a cinch. Also, in the instant pot, no heat in the kitchen, as when I made this, it was 105˚ outside in Boise, Idaho...thanks for the recipe...it's become a favorite.

When I was growing up, my mother always used Campbell's Tomato Soup with her cabbage rolls. I thought everyone did, and was so shocked when I visited a friend and her family made a different, scratch sauce. But though it was good, for comfort food I still prefer my Campbell's. This looks great and I think I hear it calling my name. Must make some soon.

We still end up with a home delicious home-cooked meal for our family and not to mention the money that we saved by cooking cooking at home. Make a one pot meal and serve it along with a dinner roll, or side salad, or sliced tomatoes or a bowl of cucumbers or even some homemade peaches in syrup. Anything works and very little dishes to wash. Thanks for another good video

Up here in the north, Boil dinner is very popular. Pork shoulder or Corn Beef, potatoes, onion, rutabaga or turnip, carrots and cabbage. All boiled together. Cabbage goes in a bit later, so it isn’t mush.

1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, in a pot that size, neutralizes the acid in tomatoes, without altering the taste if the meal. Sugar masks the acidity, it doesn't neutralize it. 💕

We used to make conventional cabbage rolls, but it was a labor intensive and time consuming process. Somewhere, my wife saw a simplified version that we switched to: A double layer of cabbage leaves, add some meatballs, a second layer of leaves, another layer of meatballs, then a covering layer of cabbage leaves. Add tomato juice, flavored or enhanced as desired, and then bake in the usual way. All the flavor and comfort food connection, but without the laborious fashioning of rolls. Remember the sour cream and pumpernickel bread! ;)

I'm on keto. I'd use riced cauliflower and add it at the end ,before the cheese. Due to high cholesterol I'd also change the beef to veggie ground beef and add it with the cauliflower. Tomato paste for me. At 71 I don't lose on keto, but I don't gain either. I'll try for smaller amounts as I live alone and wouldn't want to eat this every day for a week. But, looks good to me.

Making it right now! I love your channel! My Grandma made cabbage rolls every time I visited, so this is great to see an easy one pot recipe. I used green and red (Purple) cabbage for the colors, and its looking good. My pan looks awful full though and I followed your directions... I'm sure after the cabbage wilts it will be fine. YUM, Keep up the great work!

Cat, you can reduce the amt of acid in the cnd tomatoes by draining the canned tomatoes and adding cream or evaporated milk to the pot. The milk will offset the acid. Also mozzarella or cream cheese for the cheddar. I make a cabbage dinner with kielbasa sausage and thick sliced bacon with the onions. Once the sausage and bacon and chpd onions are cooked add your cut up cabbage. Add 2 cups of veg or beef or chicken stock. Season to taste and let simmer until cabbage begins to soften. Don't drain anything until the cabbage is done.

I want to try this because tomato soup (especially Campbells) has a very distinct and sweet flavor, I often use it with meat when I'm making a mellow comfort dish.

😋 I love your recipes. Love your Channel! I want to tell you this recipe really impresses me because I don't want to take the time to roll up the cabbage rolls and sometimes that tends to be too much cabbage in comparison with the meat. I really like this easy clean up and one step recipe in the pot. It is more like a soup. I think this looks wonderful thank you so much. I'm going to save this recipe and try this ASAP

A Southern Gal’s Tip for for a better cabbage outcome(especially when boiling wedges!)is to put your cabbage wedges/chunks in cold water for 1-2hrs before cooking, drain, add fresh water to cook, or add your cabbage to the water you cooked a corned beef brisket in, or add kielbasa/sausage on top!!! not a big salt person, so I Don’t salt that water unless I’m having guests for dinner, I just add some to cook it(& of course some pepper!).The cabbage will nearly double in size & has a much better texture to it! I can’t tell you how many conversations in my 61years of Loving cabbage, turned to “What did you do to the cabbage that makes it so different from what I’ve ever had?”& Plenty have stated had they been eating cabbage like mine & my mother’s, they would’ve Loved hearing cabbage was part of dinner tonight!
Also a spoon of sugar takes the acid out of tomatoes, & won’t be noticed in your spaghetti sauces & soups!!!

  • @58sewgood

If you add a teaspoon of sugar to tomato products its cuts the acidity dowm my husband has the same problem

Hi Catherine! I'm in Plano up north of you near DFW. When I was a young bride, I found a recipe for cabbage rolls in a church cookbook. They were made with cream of mushroom soup: 2 cans - 1/2 can goes into the meat and rice mixture and the other 1-1/2 with chicken broth goes over the rolls and into the oven. No tomatoes and acidity for hubby. I actually like them this way much better and have gone back to the tomato way. I love all of your recipes - they are wonderful. I can almost smell them on my computer. LOL

Catherine, I love rice, and my Greek mother made a lot of Greek recipes with rice. However,, a few years ago I became allergic to rice. Kernels get caught in my esophagus, which is pretty scary. I have found that couscous works in recipes that call for rice. I don't know if anybody else here has trouble getting rice down, but just in case, I thought I'd mention couscous.
