Akane does use a Roland emulator for triggering various fill sounds. Yes, several songs of synth and other background parts to them. She has even done a demo video for Roland. ruclips.net/video/a9B5b_FqsC4/видео.html She does indeed use a double pedal and has recently improved it even more on the new album Unseen World by playing around with the weight placement and stroke length to increase her speed. This song, "Freedom" has been Band-Maid's standard, if you will. Their declarative song and one that they all just have fun playing (as the video shows). I have feeling this song has now been replaced as their standard by Manners. Same emotive feeling but with an updated sound and lyrics to represent where they are now, and rightfully so. That transition from drum solo to guitar solo is epic! Notice at the end of Akane’s solo the music starts up! They realized she wasn’t done until Kanami turned to her and signal her with a few notes on her guitar, this time is was Kanami who singled the transition to her solo! Great job by Band-Maid!
THE best live Rock band on Earth - and they have more fun while slamming out Rock than any other band. Jimmy Page went backstage to get a selfie with Akane and tell her how good the band was, which, as someone who saw Bonham play with Zeppelin back in 1979, I can attest is quite a compliment. Band-Maid and Babymetal are the most refreshing acts in the Rock and Metal world.

I enjoy this band sooo much. Their individual technique, music compositions, stage presence, each of them sooo beautiful... and those smiles? I love those smiles. Nice reaction. Thx
Among all the other great things about Band Maid live is their expressions of shere joy. I cannot remember any band that smiled so much and looked if they were enjoying every moment. Kanami has the lovliest smile even when she is rocking hard. Bless them all.
This song is an old one which is not written by them by somehow they loved performing this in live gig. For groovy stuffs, new song Manners or older one Bubble For traditional Japanese vibe, Gion Cho ( they dressed as Geisha apprentices) These are good choices for future reactions.
Out of the many many "drum teacher" or "musician reacts" videos there are for Band Maid, you sir actually are giving thoughtful feedback all around. Much appreciated.
Akane had not used a double pedal until Kanami suggested it. Akane Hirose is the John Bonham of J-Girl drummers; Rina Suzuki (SCANDAL), who had never played drums prior to joining SCANDAL at 15, is the Ringo Starr with her consistent heavy beats; and Senri Kawaguchi is the spirit of Buddy Rich reincarnate...jazz drummer supreme. Awesome to see you having a blast on this one Mike. You can be pretty serious and critical, so seeing you getting as excited as other musicians to this band is really refreshing ;) I have no idea what to recommend honestly other than perhaps stick with a few live tracks to see the transitions or maybe MV then live to see how they change up the tracks for live. Any which way, look forward to seeing more of this band on your channel.
Love your enthusiasm and insights, Mike. - Just helps me appreciate Band Maid even more. There's around 100 of their songs, and lots of MVs and live performances - so you're just about to take the red pill and fall down the most wondrous musical rabbit hole. You should also check out the Wagakki band. They run with two drummers most of the time - A more traditional kit, + Taiko drums. Their live perfomances give you the best flavour. - Cheers. +1 happy subscriber!
The complete concert video shows a number of drum breaks just before the guitar solo. They have really come a long way since I first saw them 6 years ago. I am glad to see it when people really do get it when they see it.
I'd been thinking I wanted to start drumming for years, but it was that moment, seeing the joy on Akane's face during her solo clinched it. Got myself my first kit days after seeing this and have been having so much fun.
Wow! One of the better Band-Maid reactions I've seen! Thank you for the detailed explanation of the drum stuff thingy which I appreciate! Subscribing.. love more Band-Maid reactions. Any song is good, especially live
As a 4 day old Band-Maid addict, it's refreshing to hear commentators just as aghast as I was when I first heard them play. Who knew the innocent looking gals would kick us listeners in the face the wait they do so skillfully... and I've never enjoyed the abuse so sweetly as I do!
Just a FYI Misa plays a Custom Made Black Cloud Bass " Black Smoke" she had them make for her, it looks like a Epiphone SG but its not. She has one that is orange that really looks like a SG but again it is a Bass she had Black Cloud custom make for her.
Listen to "Alone." As that was one of their first original song that was approved to be put on an album. It's always a song they play in their set because it's special for that reason.
Great video Mike. A 30+ year musician here and totally fell down the Band Maid rabbit hole. Another good live video to react to is Onset. They do a 5/4 time sig bridge which is really cool.
Everything Band Maid does live is good. I suggest ONSET which is an instrumental track when Saiki gets to give her voice a rest. It's pretty dang good live and Akane has a brief spotlight along with everyone else. Kanami writes most of the music and always seems to set it up so everyone gets a bit of a spot to show off. There's an opening on NO GOD from their latest album that starts with Akane really going off you might like to hear. That track is just the music, no video yet. ruclips.net/video/o6ohWYAD4uo/видео.html
Enjoyed the reaction!!! Akane does use Dw 9000 double bass pedals. I remember reading a comment she started using that Zildjian "S" trash fx because the short sustain didn't wash out the vocals. She would hit that on the melodies and her crash for the choruses, but she seems to be using it for everything now!!! Her single stroke rolls are just super clean and even(I wish mine were at least half as good, lol).👍👍🤘🤘🤘
fun fact when they gather around Akane they are usually making faces at her to try and get her to mess up, that they do this at live shows shows how much they trust her, and that they have real fun playing together.
Nice reaction & breakdown, she plays double bass drum. The nice thing about this performance is the total fun & big smiling going on, it's so fresh to see talented people smile and enjoy being together. Live is the way to go , may i suggest the live of DOMINATION and PLAY? Also you might want to check some of the Instrumental vids for indepth reviewing.
10:35 This is an electronic pad ...... it can be used for a lot of different things. One thing she did use these pads at this concert is for a "Prank" on the rhythm guitar/ backing vocal Miku. In the middle of a show, Miku always does a "Magic Spell Time" ( A Japanese Maid Cafee gimmick), and the rest of the band goes off stage and take a rest. What Akane and Misa the bassist did was, they sneaked up to the drum set and hit the pads, triggering sampled voices of Miku, interrupting Miku's talk with the audience. They certainly got a big laugh from the audience.
the drum solo part was for the live version only, its not in the regular track. ;) to answer your question, yes she uses a double bass pedal in her gear.
A happy spin off from being obsessed with BAND-MAID was the discovery of another killer Japanese band, Sokoninaru, whose drummer is an absolute monster. Technically a support player, Shiyu, has played on their last few records and most recent videos. The drum play-through of the song "kyokugen ha setsuna" is a joy to watch - check it out!
If you're interested in hearing even more versatility from Akane, highly recommend their official live video for Wonderland. She doesn't do a solo or anything obviously crazy, but she keeps making subtle shifts throughout the song to keep things interesting and fresh. Plus some really creative high hat fills. You'll love it.
I've heard that everyone plays with a click except for MISA, the bass player. The loop was actually used once as a prank on Miku, the rhythm guitarist during one of her speaking moments. Akane recorded her speaking and started playing it back at her while she was trying to get the audience to repeat what she said. As far as recommendations, Domination and Onset have quite nice drum parts. Thanks for the insight.
Magical Akane !!!! in my opinion the most complete and best rock drummer of today. she makes up some unique drum lines. She breaks the nanosecond with her incredible precision. and even if she doesn't immediately notice she is also lightning fast, she moves around the drum set in a flash. Go and listen to YOLO, the drumline is absolute, you can't do better than this. I haven't heard a drum line like that since Stewart Copeland. I saw Band-Maid three times in concert, pressed against the stage at Saiki's feet and five meters from Akane felt Akane's bass in my bones. Akane pulls you into the song and takes you away with her, she's really great. She plays like a little girl who enjoys smashing everything with hammers and has a lot of fun, playing for two hours as if there was no tomorrow. Great reaction yours.
During the concert this was in (available on Blu-Ray), during Miku’s “magic time”, Akane and Misa come out and mess with the panel to Akane’s side, and it was doing things like little canned voice clips and such. (Magic Tine is a quasi intermission where Miku talks to the audience while the rest get a 5-10 minute break.)

This sort of reaction is the closest thing to re-living (vicariously) the watching of a performance for the first time. Enjoy the rest of the ride - Band Maid and other great Japanese bands.
I knew as a drummer you totally enjoy this! Yes, Akane does use a double pedal. Misa, btw, uses Black Cloud Custom bass guitars, this one is from the Private Reserve line. Yes, more Band Maid, Please!
FYI, Akane's drumset is:
TAMA Star Bubinga 10x7, 12x8, 16x16, 22x16 (customed colour - Asuka's red from anime "Evangelion")
Snare: Ludwig Black Beauty 14x5
Pedals: DW9002
K Zildjian Hihats 14
K Custom Hybrid Ride 20
A Custom Projection Crash 18
S Trash Crash 18
A Zildjian Heavy UltraHammered China 19
She used 4 pieces set before she added the second tom in 2016.

Thank you
Killed it man. Got a new subscriber! Freedom is impressive because of the solo sure, but I promise you will find her amazing talent in every song they do specifically the live ones... along with the entire band are all musically talented. You only scratched the surface on Band Maid! Keep them coming!
Dude I learned more about drums with your reactions than most reactors, had to subscribe!
I enjoy this band sooo much. Their individual technique, music compositions, stage presence, each of them sooo beautiful... and those smiles? I love those smiles. Nice reaction. Thx
Great job. I really enjoyed your comments and insight regarding my favorite Band Maid song. Thank you.
I'm VERY new to this band, but they legitimately SHRED! I'm hooked!
For groovy stuffs, new song Manners or older one Bubble
For traditional Japanese vibe, Gion Cho ( they dressed as Geisha apprentices)
These are good choices for future reactions.
Bubble..!! yes!
You need to listen to their new song called Black-Hole, its on their spotify. Akane-47 going rampage on that song! Its a must!
Out of the many many "drum teacher" or "musician reacts" videos there are for Band Maid, you sir actually are giving thoughtful feedback all around. Much appreciated.
Band-Maid - Domnation live has also a drumsolo, and the instrumental track "Onset live" is also worth listening.
Thanks Mike!
Freedom is always such a fun song/performance. 👏🤗🖤
Band maid are all-stars at every position! Awesome!
Great reaction and analysis.
All three are noted not only for their abilities, but for their near constant smiling while playing.

Thank you!
Love how she phrases her solo. It's not what you hear so often a wall of asmanynotesasyoucanfitintotime but a wee bit of a story. Very nice
Awesome to see you having a blast on this one Mike. You can be pretty serious and critical, so seeing you getting as excited as other musicians to this band is really refreshing ;)
I have no idea what to recommend honestly other than perhaps stick with a few live tracks to see the transitions or maybe MV then live to see how they change up the tracks for live. Any which way, look forward to seeing more of this band on your channel.
You mentioned MISA using a pick, if you watch in some videos you'll see her switch from pick to slap and back to pick flawlessly
Such a great breakdown and analysis ! Loved your reaction, Thx!
I am a bass player who knows a bit about playing drums. But your analysis gives me more knowledge about details of what a drum player doing.
I rhink a new Band Maid Fan was born from this video.
You can tell the Maids really like this song, by the way they open up lividly, the lead vocal climb in the lines sends shivers.
Domination Live or DICE next dude 👊🤘
The complete concert video shows a number of drum breaks just before the guitar solo. They have really come a long way since I first saw them 6 years ago. I am glad to see it when people really do get it when they see it.
I'd been thinking I wanted to start drumming for years, but it was that moment, seeing the joy on Akane's face during her solo clinched it. Got myself my first kit days after seeing this and have been having so much fun.
Saw them live in NYC and after she did her regular solo the rest of the band had her do a encore solo. It was awesome.
Two bands that really got me over the last few years were Band Maid and Jinjer!!
What can i say???
Great reaction as always sir 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great reaction/review Mike, really interesting to hear your take on it. Looks like you enjoyed it as much as I did, a gifted drummer indeed.
Esa chica es increíble. Y la banda es una bomba atómica. Son increíbles! Saludos desde Argentina!👍👍
Nice reaction, I like your percussion perspective.
More Band-Maid please! Keep Rocking amigo!!!🤘🏻✌🏻
Anyone who puts the time & effort into learning a instrument is good by me :)
@@GaryHolloway-810 🤘🤘🤘
fun fact when they gather around Akane they are usually making faces at her to try and get her to mess up, that they do this at live shows shows how much they trust her, and that they have real fun playing together.
😂
The Japanese Sound engineers are very good. This was part of a DVD, this was close to the end.
This is so awesome 👍👍
Glad you think so!
Rocking that hat by the way
10:35 This is an electronic pad ...... it can be used for a lot of different things.
Sounds like they like to have fun
the drum solo part was for the live version only, its not in the regular track. ;)
to answer your question, yes she uses a double bass pedal in her gear.
Will do! Thanks Paul
Wow, this band is amazing 👍
If you're interested in hearing even more versatility from Akane, highly recommend their official live video for Wonderland. She doesn't do a solo or anything obviously crazy, but she keeps making subtle shifts throughout the song to keep things interesting and fresh. Plus some really creative high hat fills. You'll love it.
Their song Rinne will let you see her double bass pedal. Music Video or Live, either one
Next one you should react to is Domination live. Same concert and it's a ripping live song
That's her
Black Cloud MISA Signature Private Reserve "Precision SG Bass".
