@@MikeLevitsky Try some Lovebites, an all female Japanese power metal band. Very different band, but the musicianship is just as good and Band-Maid. Look up "Lovebites - Break the wall / Shadowmaker / Piano etude (live - five of a kind)" It's going to get intense.
@@MikeLevitsky - you should react to Babymetal. They're very different from Band Maid. They always have really cool drum fills and a lot of double bass in some songs. Here is an awesome drum cover that has 1.2 million views. ruclips.net/video/kFr4StoaYus/видео.html&ab_channel=NyangoStar%E3%81%AB%E3%82%83%E3%82%93%E3%81%94%E3%81%99%E3%81%9F%E3%83%BC If you want the actual song instead it's 'Akatsuki' i recommend live at Budokan Black Night.
@@MikeLevitsky hurry up with your list. Freedom live just discloses the tip of the iceberg of the skill level of this girl. Even if there are some really great talents out there, she's topping them all in my eyes....
Mike, I’m an old rocker, I saw live bands like Metallica, Rush, Kiss, Sepultura, yes I’m Brazilian, Megadeth, Black Sabath, I’ve been listening to Band-Maid for 2 years, man I got hooked, Akane, the drummer, without fear of making mistakes is one of the most extraordinary of all times, there are about 100 Band-Maid songs, in all of them it is preponderant, very good your reaction, be sure, greentings from Brazil.
One of the best hard rock bands now. 100+ songs. In a recent interview, Akane mentioned that she toned down her drumming in this song because of how busy the other instruments are. Most of the time she does more tom work, fills, rhythm changes generally speaking creative drum work. Good insightful reaction.
Really great breakdown, super impressed that you were able to pick out so much detail in the layers on your first listen. Their whole catalog is great and they just recently release a new album "Unseen World" which you can listen to on spotify. Can't wait till you get to their live stuff!
A lot of you guys are telling me to check out the live stuff, will do. As far as the analysis, ya it's tough, especially since I basically do it live. I just hit record and try to take in as much as I can. I don't get everything, and some stuff I hear wrong, but like you said it's a first impression. I am really enjoying doing this kind of video. I am pretty new to it and still trying to figure out how to do it well.
band maid. since 2013, they released about 120 songs, i've heard all of them and every time my reaction is just the same as yours at the beginning: open laughter, induced by quality in every aspect. i honestly hope, you will check out more of them...
Dice, Rinne or Puzzle live MVs or Onset, Domination, Freedom (drum solo) live official videos are worth a watch. Her (Akane) interaction with the bassist (misa), make them one of the best rhythm sections in the rock world right now!
@@MikeLevitsky I personally rate Puzzle live as one of their best all round band performances (the drumming not as intense as their newest album). The bass tone and drums on Moratorium live (sadly taken down from YTube but you might find someone on here who can give you a link) is phenomenal. Aside - one of my favourite drummer's was David Garibaldi of TOP for feel and groove - would be happy to hear your opinion?
Very interesting. Thank you. The drummer is Akane Hirose, 30 years. One of the creativest I´ve ever seen. If you check some of the music of Band Maid you will find all the styles of rock music (hard, punk, pop, funk, metal...). An enjoyful ride!
The new album they just released is amazing from start to finish. And Akane is one of the best drummers around. You have found a treasure trove of a band. They play with many genres in their music. The new album unseen world Akane is a monster throughout. Welcome friend to my favorite band
Great reaction. Interesting view on drumming. Drummer is called Akane. If you enjoyed her drumming try one of their live videos, either Freedom (definitely), Domination or Onset
Thanks! I’m curious how you found this video as it is still unlisted? I am about to make it public right now. I appreciate your support, I see you are here in the comments on a lot of my videos. 👍
Your Polyphia reaction came up in my recommended videos. I enjoyed that one which led me to your channel. Keep up the good work, nice to see a reaction with more technical insight
Akane Hirose is the drummer of Band-Maid. When Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin caught a Band-Maid performance in Tokyo, it was Akane that he requested to have a photo op with. pbs.twimg.com/media/CxPtHwEXcAAPUJk?format=jpg&name=small
Hey Mike, loved the review! Akane is a fantastic drummer and she keeps getting better as shown in their brand new album released 3 days ago where she is killing it the whole album! Being a drummer myself it is very refreshing seeing a reaction like this, where you go into detail of what is happening! I hope you check them out some more, they are probably the best rock band out there right now. Stay safe!
Your reaction videos are some of the best I've seen due to the fact that you fill the screen with the artists videos instead of your beautiful face filling the screen. Cheers to you and I hope you do more Band-Maid reaction videos. I suggest the song "Domination" (Official Live Video).
Akane's plays a beautiful Tama Star bubinga kit, Zildjian K & A Customs with a S effects. She does use various snares (Tama, Ludwig Black Beauty) Dw 9000 doubles, and her signature Wincent sticks. She's played Sonar, Canopus, Sakai, Sabian before her Tama/Zildjian endorsement. She actually held back because of the chaotic nature of this song, which is funny especially when you start listening to their other songs! In Band-Maid, the lead guitar(Kanami, composer), bass(Misa), & Akane all play lead, add Miku(founder, rhythm, 2nd vocals, lyricist) and Saiki(vocals), what you have IMHO is the best rock band in the world!!! Pretty much any of the 100+ songs, you'll find Akane going off!!!👍👍🤘🤘🤘
You are right. Soooo many comments and recommendations. But, I love it. It so fun to be a part of such a passionate group. I will definitely make more band maid videos. With so much support why would I not?!?!?
The only reaction channels I subscribe to are the ones where I feel like I learn something new in each video. As both a non-musician and a fan of Band-Maid, hearing insights from people who can dissect the music always enriches my enjoyment of their songs. You've got another subscriber today, my good sir.
Liked your reaction/review, nice to see someone with the knowledge impart some pearls of wisdom. One of my favorite bands whose skill level is really top tier and cool to see you recognize this. Keep up the good work!
Hey Mike I've been listening to BAND-MAID For a while now and I've tried to think of where I've heard a similar drum sound to Akane's and the closest I could think of were the punk and post-punk drummers of the early to mid 80's . I'm no musician and you've just explained what I've been thinking but unable to express. Thanks for a great and informative review from a drummer's perspective.
Akane (Ahk-ah-nay) is absolutely a drummer’s drummer. A true percussionist in the vein of Mr. Peart. She plays to what’s best for the song, constantly changing her patterns to make the jam more interesting for your brain.💪🏻🤘🏻
Welcome aboard, Mike. You are embarking on (along with many others - 100 million YT views!) an awesome hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid: BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Consistency (over a 100 songs with their latest album, “Unseen World”), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destine for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off the rails spectacular. Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 50 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: ruclips.net/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/видео.html Their later songs on Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, and Just Bring It drive even more - Manners, Different, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Glory, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts! And many are represented with over 30 well produced music videos. ruclips.net/user/BANDMAID Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE concerts such as Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA on February 14th (“Domination” ruclips.net/video/QbyQCJn6rYg/видео.html), ZEPP 2018, Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and some of the better 2019 tour Fan vids. If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. A solo concert at Nippon Budokan has the same meaning as a solo concert at Madison Square Garden in the United States in Japan. Raised by the company, the company provides songs, the company trains, the company promotes, the company collaborates with each media, many companies co-sponsor, many concerts at the large capacity Nippon Budokan or some Arena There are several groups that do. BABY-METAL is one of them. For them, it's just a big concert. However, BAND-MAID won the right to a solo concert at Nippon Budokan by pursuing their own music and continuing their live performances by facing the audience directly. Only with the efforts of the band. Starting from that leaflet in 2013. And now Unfortunately, the concert at Nippon Budokan has been cancelled. The world is in a difficult situation right now, but I pray for the success of BAND-MAID. I think the appeal of BAND-MAID is all about live performances. At BAND-MAID, the high ability of CALL & RESPONCE, which has been cultivated by continuing to play at a very close distance to the audience in a small live house, becomes an excellent performance and creates a wonderful space. And the live take of BAND-MAID where it is recorded is really excellent. In the studio take, the song is playful and gives a slightly excessive impression, but in the live, it is tight and clear, the members are tense with each other's techniques, yet relaxed, and it is wonderful to wrap the audience with happiness It creates a sound space. Oh, how can I forget! The Band-Maid track "Blooming" has a bunch of killer drum fills. Definitely check that out too (it's hard to pick suggestions because they have SO many good songs)
Band Maid is one of my favorite current bands, that's how I found you, thank you for covering them. You should definitely check out more of their songs, they're really good. I like Dice. If you have time, you might want to get lost in the the Wagakki Band world for a while--they combine traditional Japanese instruments, like the shamisen and the shakuhachi (large bamboo flute), with modern rock instruments, electric guitar and drums. In some of their live shows, I've seen multiple drum sets out and in use.
Check out Band Maid's "Blooming" for some interesting drum work. They have quite an extensive catalog and none of the musicians get lazy and not change it up throughout their songs. This song you just critique was a two year old one that they wrote did for an anime television series. They gotten even better.
Different was just recently released for season 3 of Log Horizon. However, I think they did say in an interview that it was written a couple of years ago.
For some more tasteful drumming from Akane, check out their two newest songs “Manners” (bluesy hard rock) and “Warning” (punk/metal), as well as the older songs “Bubble” (groovy rock), “Dice” (hard rock), AND WE CANNOT FORGET THE LIVE PERFORMANCES! Domination, Onset (an instrumental), and Freedom featuring a wonderful drum solo! Welcome to Band-Maid!
Hey man, I enjoyed your reaction and drum analysis. As others have said, her name is Akane and is a classically trained jazz drummer originally. I will echo the suggestion that you give Freedom (live) a listen from their offical channel which features an extended drum solo. Also, Onset (Live) , on their official channel, which is an instrumental. If you do them again and want to stick with a music video, I would suggest Rinne or Blooming. The do a lot of genre bending in their music, but always based in rock. It is hard to find a bad song from them and they have written nearly all their songs since 2016, including this one. The reason I lsited lives as the band really shines when playing live and their offical lives clearly show that. I definitely will be looking at some of your other reactions.
Thanks. I am new to the reaction scene. I have been doing lessons and covers for a while. I will check out the live stuff, I just picked this video at random. It was suggested by a comment.
@@MikeLevitsky I enjoyed your reaction, especially the breakdown concerning the drums. I have watched a couple other of your reactions and I enjoyed them. Looking forward to watching more and seeing you do my favorite band another time too. I know some will suggest newer songs because they just released a newer album, but its I find it often better to see where a band/musician comes from and grows then just the end product. Plus, people have a tendency to have short memories and think the latest is the greatest.
The drummer's name is Akane (Ak-ha-nay). If you are going to check out more of the drummer and the band here are 5 songs that I think would be good. Freedom (official live video) for an awesome drum solo. Warning (official music video) if you check out what they are doing off of their newest album. Onset (official live video) it’s an Instrumental that shows why everyone in this band is really good. Secret My lips (official music video) older song, but I like Akane drumming in this song. Wonderland (official live video) a rock ballad with a little jazz. I could have picked so many other songs but I wanted to keep this list short.
OH BOY! If you are playing drums and love hearing good (or in this case AWESOME) drummer Akane Hirose "GORILLA" is your best pick at the moment. I could write SO MANY things, but you should just watch LIVE videos from their official channel, like Freedom, Onset, Domination... There is a lot of stuff... She is so good that Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) wanted to meet especially her to take a picture with her and praised her a lot. Her talent is undeniable and she is maybe the drummer no. 1 right now. All ladies are a force and the best band i discovered since 15-20 years or EVER. And don´t try to put the in a genre, they are a genre on their own... Punk, hardrock, jazz, blues, pop, they are all over the place sometimes even in one song. Have fun, stay healthy and enjoy this awesome ride! Greetings from Germany, nice reaction
Your in for a real treat! Akane is a world class drummer as you will surely find out, this band will make you disregard everything you have ever known, you now have so much research ahead of you now, good luck I look forward to seeing you react to more Band Maid.
Would like to see you react to one of their other songs, as this one is not that representative of most of their work. It was a commission for an anime opening song. Recommend Freedom for a drum solo, but I actually appreciate the creativity she shows in many of their other songs. She doesn't just keep time, that's for sure. Appreciate the drum comments too, as you're right on with those.
Yeah, Different was a commission song but it was already made when they were asked. Kanami looked for some song to be the op and found this song and made it some changes to fit an anime opening. My point is that Different was not made specially for the anime cause it was already made.
It's so nice to have another musician react to Band-Maid you gave more of an insight into how Akane does what she does, and I'm glad you were impressed so you mite spread the word to people who don't know Band-Maid to give them a listen, they deserve to be better known as a rock group.
Akane's drums are highlighted in the live performance of "Freedom" from a show in February 2020. If your goal is to see more of what Akane can do, go there. Their live instrumental "Onset" is also excellent, but the lighting at the show prevents you from seeing much of Akane; you'll have to go by ear.
For a little drumming try BAND-MAID FREEDOM live thanks for the reaction ! this is PO rock, Akane rules ! Have subbed , just for more BAND-MAID in future.
Akane(Drummer)started playing the piano at the age of three and became a trombone player when she was in high school. It's an amazing evolution that started playing drums at the age of 18.
Yay, another Band Maid new fan! Love it. I found them late February last year and drums are my fav instrument. Akane the drummer does not play every song the same way so I think you will find her very interesting and unique. Great insights and thanks.
Nice how they all changed up the underlying rhythm section in the second verse. Different is actually the theme song for a Japanese animated TV show called Log Horizon. A very "different" song for them but when I realized it was the theme for a show it suddenly made sense. And they are very eclectic in their musical combinations.
One of the best things about Band-Maid is their versatility. When you listen to another song, you will hear something different. AND they are better live. Here is a link to "Freedom" that people recommend due to her solo. ruclips.net/video/FHpuEqMAcDg/видео.html
She's amazing in her fill choices for songs, but she's also unbelievably good live. Had a pleasure to hear them perform and she's a machine. Please react to more of their stuff, especially live.
Dude, Welcome to the band-maid fandom. You seem very knowledgeable and we've got A Lot of Tracks for you to dissect. Please do either Warning or Domination next?
There's some crazy drum stuff going on in their new album, but as far as stuff on RUclips, the one with the live drum solo is FREEDOM which has a much more classic rock feel.
My musical references for this song are "Entry of the Gladiators" march (year 1897) by Julius Fučík & the fast 1-2-1-2 oompah beat at beginning reminds me of "Sabre Dance" (year 1942) by Aram Khachaturian. Band-Maid is not specifically punk rock, they just take elements from "different" rock subgenres to use in their songs. From what I heard, 2 or 3 of the gals have studied in music school, hence their chops. They just recently released a new album this month & have been grinding out new music videos, as usual, the latest video just dropped today, the 26th (or the 27th in Japan I think), for their song "After Life". They've been around since 2013. As much as I like all the members, Miku Kobato, the background vocals & supporting/rhythm guitar, usually 2nd from the left in these videos, is my favorite. Adorable, gorgeous & sometimes odd. Nickname "Pigeon". She is actually the sole founder of this band. No Miku, No Band Maid. If you like, I would suggest reacting to their debut song/video from 2013 "Thrill", if you want to react to them in chronological order.
Akane Hirose was originally a music student that knew the guitarist Kanami Tono from sessions and was a classmate of MISA the bassist. She was lauded by Jimmy Paige as one of the best he's ever seen.
Thanks for your reaction. Of course, many will suggest to you their song "Freedom", because it has that one drum solo in it. It´s a great one, but the rest of the song is more likely a warm up song for Akane. If you really want to know of what she´s capable today, I´d recommend tracks like "Blooming", "Rinne", "onset" or especially their latest release "warning".

I see you have Freedom on your list to watch. You'll be able to see how much fun they have playing live. When Akane has her solo you can see her pure joy she has playing. They are a fun band to watch. I hope someday to see them in person.
For context: This is the anime intro this song was written for: www6.nhk.or.jp/anime/special/special.html?i=10060 For amazement: This is a visual representation of Akane's drumming on this song. ruclips.net/video/K36Cxx_3nOg/видео.html Pay close attention to all of them, they really play well together as a unit. The drummer uses double bass pedals. Look at some of the rest of their music too. To me, they are one of the best bands to come along in a long time. Technically, the drummer is really on top of her game though. For the gearheads, this is about their equipment: equipboard.com/band/band-maid For source videos, their official RUclips page is best ruclips.net/channel/UCJToUvYrmkmTCR-bluEaQfA
Some of Akane's influence is the drummer from "Maximum the Hormone". Great for you to catch up, they've been around since 2013. This song was done for an Anime. Their first ask for the genre.
"Domination" or "Freedom" live are good choices as they both have a little spotlight section on the drums. My personal favorite song of Band-Maid's is "Secret My Lips," which has a really engaging drum groove as well.
I saw your channel through a Babymetal reaction, and after you introduced yourself as a drummer I was already ready to recommend Band-Maid 😉 They are all amazing, even if the focus here goes naturally to Akane. Very nice reaction. Thx
There's no music video but its on Spotify, Band Maid's Why Why Why.. The drummer has tons of change ups in that song. Also Black Hole too while you are at it, all from their Unseen World album that was recently released.
Akane must be a good drummer, Jimmy Page praised him personally Really, it´s no joke Oh, and she also can play piano and trombone and of course have formal training. She study in the Tokyo School of Music
For a taste of their brilliance watch below (Akane is one of the best rock drummers out there) "secrete My lips" MV official "DICE" MV official "Wonderland" LIVE official "ONSET" LIVE Official All from their official channel. I guarantee you that you will like them. Band-Maid are genius in their music compositions. They always play around with unique rhythm, beats and timing.
I only recently discovered Band-Maid, and I too am blown away. They play fantastic, high-powered, super fast, complex hard rock. I didn't really see it as punk rock as it's a bit to complex and polished for that, but they do take rhythms and other inspiration from every music genre and combine it in really interesting ways. The maid theme might make it easy to think they're a gimmick band, but they're not; they're really good. Do check out their other songs, though I think Different is one of their most complex.
Great video dude! You know your stuff. Band-Maid is awesome!! These women deserve more recognition!! This song was made for the opening of an anime called Log Horizon. The lyrics were written based on the themes in the show. You gotta check out more B-M! Kanami the lead guitarist writes the music now (on their last 4 albums).
Wow....great analysis. Have never drums analyzed to that extent. A lot of folks will recommend Freedom Live and the newest MV Warning which has some seriously fast drumming. Good choices both...however I would like to see you react to Blooming. To my uneducated ears she does some interesting drum work in that song.
@@MikeLevitsky Freedom is actually way simpler and laid back compared to Different, but it does have an Akane solo in the middle so that might be good to check
Welcome to Band-Maid. they do varying rock genres: pop rock, soft rock, rock ballads, punk rock, classic rock, hard rock, heavy metal. hope you get to hear more of their music.
Song was commissioned for an Anime theme and does not appear on their albums. The band are all in their late 20s except for the drummer who has just turned 30. Frankly they are the best band around at the moment both live and on record. The music is very much a throw back to the rock of the past with a touch of punk. Worth looking at their music.
I have discovered this band early last year and I am currently waiting for their new album by import as the last missing pieces of music for my collection of their music. During the last weeks, since the release of this video, I was looking a lot of reaction videos to find a few videos who are able to describe what they are doing, because I have no idea WHAT and HOW they are doing, of course because of a lack of musicianship. Thanks for taking a deeper look at Akanes play and explaining what the hell is going on and what she is and they are doing. Their talent of making intense, melodic and groovy rock music is unbelievable. Misa (bass), Kanami (lead guitar) and Akane are alone allready outstanding, but in combination I have never heard rock music with this form of impact on me during the last 25 years. I would be glad to see taking another look at another track of theirs by yours, e.g. their new video Warning, where Akane is again ripping it apart.
Band Maid has a very good drummer, her name is Akane (A-ka-nay). You should definitely check out some official live videos from their RUclips channel, they're professionally recorded and you can see what the drummer is doing better. Freedom is a popular song that people request, but you can't really pick a bad song from this band. I'm a drummer myself, so I'm looking forward to seeing more break downs from you.
You'll hear all kinds of great influences in Band-Maid, but what's really special is that you're not going to hear a more tasteful, energetic, and beautiful mix of these influences than you are going to hear from Band-Maid .... 100+ songs, and there are no throw-aways. One of their latest MVs, 'Manners' is IMO a freaking masterpiece of groove-rock/rocking-blues that IMO might just rival Grand-Master B to the A-C-H!! And you haven't heard them live, where they take this great playing and amplify it with the reaction of love and joy from the crowd! Japanese concerts are special on their own (the fans know their 'parts' and everyone participates in the 'spectacle of the show', and the great Japanese bands like Band-Maid, BABYMETAL, One Ok Rock, know how to use that energy.)
Mike you might want to check out and react to Yoyoka sometimes, she is a young 10-year-old Japanese girl that is an amazing up and coming drummer. And also please more Band-Maid!
The new album they just put out is a monster. They play a huge variety of music with overtones from many genres. Watch anything live to see how good they really are. They're an incredible live band. Line Club Shibuya or Zep Tokyo for live. From the new album there are two songs that don't have MVs. I STILL SEEK REVENGE and NO GOD. They have some pretty incredible playing in both of those. Welcome to the Band Maid rabbit hole. The more you listen the more you'll probably want to hear. Miku (small pigeon), rhythm gtr and lyrics. Kanami, lead guitar and composition. . Saiki, vocals and quality control. Misa (the barefoot assassin), bass. And finally, Akane (gorilla) drums. Jimmy Page was so impressed with Akane he wanted to meet her after a performance in England. The meeting took place. Miku is the architect of the band and though many people tend to gloss over her in preference for the musical wow factor of the others she's really the driving force behind the group. It's her original vision.
Thanks so much for all the info. excuse my ignorance, but what are MVs? I will for sure do some more reactions to their music and check out other songs! Great band.
@@MikeLevitsky music video such as this as opposed to live recordings. Generally speaking Band Maid has to be seen live to get the real experience of what they're about. There are some good music videos though: DICE, ALONE and some others. If you want to see Akane do a drum solo watch Freedom from Club Shibuya 2020. It's not a super long one but it showcases her abilities more because there isn't any filtering through other instruments.
I know this is a drum teacher reacts to something focused on checking out drummers, but I just wanna point out that misa is my bass player idol! her basslines are the best on this planet.
Hi Mike, thanks for your listening and reaction to Band-Maid. "Different" was written as a theme for the new season 3 of the anime "Log Horizon". If you want more feel of band-maid, you can listen to their other songs. If you want to listen more to Akane's latest crazy drumming performance, you should listen and react to their latest MV (20 Jan 2021) : Warning!. Cheers !
The drummer, her name is Akane Hirose uses the following drum kit: Tama Star Bubinga drums 22x16 16x16 12x8 10x7 14x5 snare drum DW9002 pedals wincent A5 sticks zildjan cymbals: projection crash 18" hihat 14" k custom hybrid 20" trash crash 18" heavy ultra hammered china 19"
Bro, you don't even know! I love witnessing your discovering of this group... I'm sorry to inform you (not really) - you're hooked. A long time musican myself, lifelong rocker - i found this band accidentally.. and was immediately dismissive of it being j-pop gimmick. Couldn't have been more wrong, and these gals found a permanent spot on my playlists. I'm happy for you, man... you're in for a great journey.
Jimmy page went to see them in Tokyo and loved Akane's drumming, he was very complimentary to her about her drumming and got a photo taken with her. So yeah, she has fans . If you check out Freedom live she has a drum solo which is exciting and fits the song like a glove. graet stuff Mike,
Someone may have said this, but Akane, the drummer, was singled out by Jimmy Page, who tracked her down after seeing Band Maid live in Tokyo. She seems to do something different in every song. She was inspired by the female drummer of Maximum the Hormone, an iconic Japanese band.
Nice reaction! Welcome to BAND-MAID. They're impossibly hard rocking maid band. And yes, they're all talented girls with maid costumes and served nice & unique rock musics. As a drum teacher, I'd like you to react more of them. There are more music from them that really have a nice drum fill. I recommend you to react DICE or WARNING, or if you like a live stuff, try FREEDOM Live and REAL EXISTENCE Live. Thanks.
If you were impressed with Akane's drumming in this one, all the songs from the new album, "Unseen World", are crazy good. Her drumming in Black Hole is the one that sticks out the most to me. Akane's inspiration is the drummer, Nau Kawakita, from Maximum the Hormone. I have a request. Please check out and react to the drummer of Nemophila.
OK, now that you seen one of their MVs, take a look at their live performance. I would recommend Freedom ;) .have fun on your journey down the rabbit hole :)
Mike, I appreciate your analysis of the rhythmic elements of this piece. Most people don't catch the triplets moving through the drums, videos and guitar lines. This song is a bit different from typical Band-Maid tracks are it was designed as the opening for an anime, and therefore needed to be modular so it could be really edited into a short form. For some better examples of the work that Akane Hirose (the drummer) is capable of I'd recommend checking out Play (live version) for the pocket she gets with bass player MiSA, and Freedom (also live) for a bit of solo work. Both of these tracks are on their official channel. As an aside: Jimmy Page caught a Band-Maid show in Tokyo in 2016. Her was so impressed with Akane's performance that he went backstage afterwards to meet her. Akane was surprised, she thought someone was kidding her at first, however there is a photo of them floating around on the 'net.
Great reaction, loved it. FYI "In 2016, Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin caught a performance of Band-Maid in Tokyo and asked for a photo-op with their drummer, Akane Hirose. Reportedly he told her that she was like a reincarnation of John Bonham." Please analysis her drum solo for the "Freedom" Live video in their channel. I was waiting for a drum specialist like you to analyze it!
It is true that Jimmy Page liked Akane's play and went backstage to meet her and take pictures with her, but the anecdote that "like a reincarnation of John Bonham." was a widespread lie that someone jokingly uttered. Please be careful. :)
I think "onset in live" is the masterpiece of the band, if you focus in the drummer, the solo in "Freedom" , the new single Warning , the drummer was crazy , maybe in all the songs haha. The videos are in the youtube channel of the band
Drum solo Band-Maid Freedom Live.
It's on my list! Thanks
The transition from the Drum solo to the guitar solo is So sweet.
Thanks so much, I was pleasantly surprised by them.
One of the best hard rock bands now. 100+ songs.
In a recent interview, Akane mentioned that she toned down her drumming in this song because of how busy the other instruments are. Most of the time she does more tom work, fills, rhythm changes generally speaking creative drum work. Good insightful reaction.
She had a very musical approach
Japan is full of outstanding female drummers.
This song is just a small sample of what this band is capable of. They are simply the best band around today! 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂
It seems they have their sights set on world domination

Wow! Blown away! By the band and the amount of views you’ve had in only 6 hours! Great work, man! Kudos!
Great reaction! Fun to hear you lay down some knowledge for us casual listeners. Please do more of Band-Maid. Akane Hirose is an amazing drummer!
Thank you so much! Will do I am making a list of songs
band maid. since 2013, they released about 120 songs, i've heard all of them and every time my reaction is just the same as yours at the beginning: open laughter, induced by quality in every aspect. i honestly hope, you will check out more of them...
120 songs, that's crazy
Very nice analysis and reaction, keep up the good job. And yeah, more Band-Maid it’ll be nice. Thx.
Thanks, Will do!
Dice, Rinne or Puzzle live MVs or Onset, Domination, Freedom (drum solo) live official videos are worth a watch. Her (Akane) interaction with the bassist (misa), make them one of the best rhythm sections in the rock world right now!
Thanks!
Thanks so much, I am planning on checking out more
The new album they just released is amazing from start to finish. And Akane is one of the best drummers around. You have found a treasure trove of a band. They play with many genres in their music. The new album unseen world Akane is a monster throughout. Welcome friend to my favorite band
Thanks for the welcome!

Wow
Hey Mike, loved the review! Akane is a fantastic drummer and she keeps getting better as shown in their brand new album released 3 days ago where she is killing it the whole album!
Being a drummer myself it is very refreshing seeing a reaction like this, where you go into detail of what is happening!
I hope you check them out some more, they are probably the best rock band out there right now.
Stay safe!
Thanks for the encouragment!
Pretty much any of the 100+ songs, you'll find Akane going off!!!👍👍🤘🤘🤘
Thanks for the info on her drums. Very helpful!
You’re gonna get flooded by the fans now haha. They’re great and have tons of good songs to check out. They’ll keep you busy for a while 😄
You are right.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
Hey Mike I've been listening to BAND-MAID For a while now and I've tried to think of where I've heard a similar drum sound to Akane's and the closest I could think of were the punk and post-punk drummers of the early to mid 80's .

You’re right. She does play to the song.
Peart ?
What a RIDICULOUS thing to say
Welcome aboard, Mike. You are embarking on (along with many others - 100 million YT views!) an awesome hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid:
BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers.
And many are represented with over 30 well produced music videos. ruclips.net/user/BANDMAID
Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE concerts such as Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA on February 14th (“Domination” ruclips.net/video/QbyQCJn6rYg/видео.html), ZEPP 2018, Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and some of the better 2019 tour Fan vids. Here’s three of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at super intimate venues. The first taken by Vladimir Chupin in Hamburg: ruclips.net/video/__1th7ctgMo/видео.html, the second taken by JT Dayo in LA: ruclips.net/video/4uIYBkAybCI/видео.html, and third, JOSER8845 in LA: ruclips.net/video/usWZvlGGDSs/видео.html. If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo
Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. For fun, check out an awesome, little known "Mega Band-Maid Mix" by DJ Ray of some of their earlier stuff: facebook.com/djrayboston/videos/1004709499579009

Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements, melodies and High Priestess mediator between the Gods (Band Members) and the masters and princesses (Fans). At 26 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Leader) as Miku calls her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away the persona. Her charisma, performance and voice focus the experience.
Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 29 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kurrupo! No, no, no… KURRUPO!!
Kanami Tono (Ka-Naw-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 29 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more!
Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 30 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. This “DrumRilla” is the Party!
MISA (Me-Sa) "Assassin" - Bass, 28 years old. A sullen, barefoot, dark spirit driving her 5-string bottom-end to hell and back, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. The Mysterious One literally kills it… every note.. uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!

Suddenly, "THRILL" was a hit on the internet in April 2015, and the band has been energetically performing live throughout 2015, but without that "THRILL" hit,Kanami and Akane went to "もちとちーず" and BAND-MAID may have disappeared.
However, BAND-MAID held up.

It's hard to understand why the company doesn't publish such a great live record.

And
band-maid is planning their first solo concert at Nippon Budokan in February.
And now
Unfortunately, the concert at Nippon Budokan has been cancelled.
I also think BAND-MAID is currently the best live band.

@@doraemonnobita2730 Thank you for the breakdown of Band-Maid's history. A great reference piece for all. Please continue to post for other reactors, viewers & fans. 🎭💗💯🙏
Oh, how can I forget! The Band-Maid track "Blooming" has a bunch of killer drum fills. Definitely check that out too (it's hard to pick suggestions because they have SO many good songs)
It seems they have a lot of good songs. I have gotten so many recommendations.
Man, I like your reaction! Keep it up sir, the naturalness of yours. Hope you all healthiness and happiness also in this trying times :)
They're sooooo good, I've gone through their entire catalog today. As a drummer, I'm in big love.
Check out Band Maid's "Blooming" for some interesting drum work. They have quite an extensive catalog and none of the musicians get lazy and not change it up throughout their songs. This song you just critique was a two year old one that they wrote did for an anime television series. They gotten even better.
wow, I just kinda picked one at random. I had never heard of them before this. I will definitely check out some of their newer stuff.
Different was just recently released for season 3 of Log Horizon. However, I think they did say in an interview that it was written a couple of years ago.
What Jonathan is saying is it's an anime theme song.
The drummer (Akane) is incredible, look further into their song catalog, it is impressive.
Will do thanks!
Ah, Akande has a jazz background. That makes a lot of sense.
Thanks for the suggestions
Thanks so much! I will check out some of their live stuff
@@spupydo cool. I didn't know that.
Will do, I have had many suggestions for other songs and I will make some more reactions to their stuff in the coming weeks.
@@spupydo yeah but kanami also doubled up the timing
It's so nice to have another musician react to Band-Maid you gave more of an insight into how Akane does what she does, and I'm glad you were impressed so you mite spread the word to people who don't know Band-Maid to give them a listen, they deserve to be better known as a rock group.
I agree
I liked your reaction & breakdown of the drums & drumming patterns. You remind me a lot of the reactor TankTheTech, only with a lot less hair.👍
You know what they say... "Hair today, gone tomorrow!"
He just has a crew cut - where the crew has bailed out. And it's stylin'
@@TomClark-Futoura That hits a little close to home Tom ;)
Thanks, I started loosing my hair at 17 and have been shaving my head for almost 20 years. I'm 37 now.
@@MikeLevitsky To much testosterone. Really! The price for being a manly man. ;-)
🙏 appreciated
For a little drumming try BAND-MAID FREEDOM live thanks for the reaction ! this is PO rock, Akane rules ! Have subbed , just for more BAND-MAID in future.
PO rock, Lol! I'm going to steal that.
@@matttate9999 Good, I did !
HA! I will check out Freedom. Thanks for the suggestion
You'll want to see more of these girls. They're extremely talented and makes some great songs.
Akane(Drummer)started playing the piano at the age of three and became a trombone player when she was in high school.
It's an amazing evolution that started playing drums at the age of 18.
Wow. I did not know this. Thanks.
Yay, another Band Maid new fan! Love it. I found them late February last year and drums are my fav instrument. Akane the drummer does not play every song the same way so I think you will find her very interesting and unique. Great insights and thanks.
Best band in the world. Just ask these guys.
It seems they have a huge fan base.
Hey Mike, love the enthusiasm and insight in your reaction.
Thank you so much!
Thanks for the link! I'll check it out.
She's amazing in her fill choices for songs, but she's also unbelievably good live. Had a pleasure to hear them perform and she's a machine. Please react to more of their stuff, especially live.
Will do. Soon!
finally i know what Akane doing with her drum kit behind, thankyou for breakdown analysis and explanation ..really educate me and fun.
You are welcome. Thanks for watching
Thanks Mike!
It's my pleasure. this was a lot of fun to watch!
Dude, Welcome to the band-maid fandom. You seem very knowledgeable and we've got A Lot of Tracks for you to dissect. Please do either Warning or Domination next?
Thanks. I have those on my list m
There's some crazy drum stuff going on in their new album, but as far as stuff on RUclips, the one with the live drum solo is FREEDOM which has a much more classic rock feel.
I'll check it out
My musical references for this song are "Entry of the Gladiators" march (year 1897) by Julius Fučík & the fast 1-2-1-2 oompah beat at beginning reminds me of "Sabre Dance" (year 1942) by Aram Khachaturian.
Her full name is Akane Horse, you have only scratched a very small surface of the talent of this incredible drummer and her remarkable band mate's.
You are so welcome, I am new to making this kind of video and still trying to get it dialed in. Thank you for the recommendations. I will add them to my list.
the fills that gives you the feels
The drummer is Akane Hirose, AKA=Gorilla Beast linked with Misa,AKA= Assassin + Band Maid bassist, both from early days in music school togeather, Kanami Tono lead guitar vocals AKA= Princess, Miku Kobato guitar + lead vocals AKA=Little Pigeon, Saiki Atsumi lead vocals AKA=Queen, your commentary is the best, describing the drumming details + timings ect., glad you liked what you heard + some more girl group talent from Japan, Lovebites - Empty Daydream, + Nemophila - Life.

I see you have Freedom on your list to watch. You'll be able to see how much fun they have playing live. When Akane has her solo you can see her pure joy she has playing. They are a fun band to watch. I hope someday to see them in person.

For amazement: This is a visual representation of Akane's drumming on this song. ruclips.net/video/K36Cxx_3nOg/видео.html
Pay close attention to all of them, they really play well together as a unit. The drummer uses double bass pedals. Look at some of the rest of their music too. To me, they are one of the best bands to come along in a long time. Technically, the drummer is really on top of her game though.
For the gearheads, this is about their equipment: equipboard.com/band/band-maid

Some of Akane's influence is the drummer from "Maximum the Hormone". Great for you to catch up, they've been around since 2013. This song was done for an Anime. Their first ask for the genre.
If you want to see Akane really shine, check out Band-Maid's Choose Me.
"Domination" or "Freedom" live are good choices as they both have a little spotlight section on the drums. My personal favorite song of Band-Maid's is "Secret My Lips," which has a really engaging drum groove as well.
Thanks
I saw your channel through a Babymetal reaction, and after you introduced yourself as a drummer I was already ready to recommend Band-Maid 😉 They are all amazing, even if the focus here goes naturally to Akane. Very nice reaction. Thx
There's no music video but its on Spotify, Band Maid's Why Why Why.. The drummer has tons of change ups in that song. Also Black Hole too while you are at it, all from their Unseen World album that was recently released.
Thanks. I’ll give it a listen.
Akane must be a good drummer, Jimmy Page praised him personally
Really, it´s no joke
Oh, and she also can play piano and trombone and of course have formal training. She study in the Tokyo School of Music

All from their official channel. I guarantee you that you will like them. Band-Maid are genius in their music compositions. They always play around with unique rhythm, beats and timing.
Thanks for the suggestions
I only recently discovered Band-Maid, and I too am blown away. They play fantastic, high-powered, super fast, complex hard rock. I didn't really see it as punk rock as it's a bit to complex and polished for that, but they do take rhythms and other inspiration from every music genre and combine it in really interesting ways.
The maid theme might make it easy to think they're a gimmick band, but they're not; they're really good. Do check out their other songs, though I think Different is one of their most complex.
Thanks. I have done a few Band-maid listens and they are a great band
Thanks. I will be checking out more if their stuff
Thanks! I'll check it out. Many have recommended freedom.
I will!
I think the song Bubble is a good example for how good the drummer Akane is.
Thanks
Nice reaction sir, thank you..
Thanks for checking it out and leaving a comment
Thanks. I will look at a few more of their songs.
Goooood reaction⚡️
other songs live ver please🤲
I'm looking forward to your reaction👍
BAND-MAID最高~~~~😁
Band Maid has a very good drummer, her name is Akane (A-ka-nay). You should definitely check out some official live videos from their RUclips channel, they're professionally recorded and you can see what the drummer is doing better. Freedom is a popular song that people request, but you can't really pick a bad song from this band. I'm a drummer myself, so I'm looking forward to seeing more break downs from you.
Thanks so much, I have added several of these suggestions to my list of future reaction/breakdown videos
This is great. I will have to check out some of their live stuff
They aren't a punk band.
They're just Band Maid.
They're their own genre.
jimmy Page was on one of theit concerts and wanted a picture with Akane, because she is such an amzing drummer like John Bonham.
They play every kinda rock. Punk. Classic. Metal. Ska. They have song's that are hard jazz. Best rock and roll band in the world today! Po!🤘
Mike you might want to check out and react to Yoyoka sometimes, she is a young 10-year-old Japanese girl that is an amazing up and coming drummer. And also please more Band-Maid!
Band Maid fan here, Wow very interesting thanks :)
For sure, thank you for leaving a comment

I will do that one soon
Someone may have said this, but Akane, the drummer, was singled out by Jimmy Page, who tracked her down after seeing Band Maid live in Tokyo. She seems to do something different in every song. She was inspired by the female drummer of Maximum the Hormone, an iconic Japanese band.
A few people have mentioned it, but thanks for the taking the time to leave a comment. I really appreciate it.
Thanks.
Will do thanks
If you were impressed with Akane's drumming in this one, all the songs from the new album, "Unseen World", are crazy good. Her drumming in Black Hole is the one that sticks out the most to me. Akane's inspiration is the drummer, Nau Kawakita, from Maximum the Hormone.
I have a request. Please check out and react to the drummer of Nemophila.
OK, now that you seen one of their MVs, take a look at their live performance. I would recommend Freedom ;) .have fun on your journey down the rabbit hole :)
Thanks. Will do
Mike, I appreciate your analysis of the rhythmic elements of this piece.
Thanks for all the info. I am planning on checking out more of their songs next time I sit down to do some new videos.
Great reaction, loved it.
FYI "In 2016, Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin caught a performance of Band-Maid in Tokyo and asked for a photo-op with their drummer, Akane Hirose.
Reportedly he told her that she was like a reincarnation of John Bonham."
Please analysis her drum solo for the "Freedom" Live video in their channel.
