The truly CRAZY thing about Akane's drumming...she is loose (incoming drum geeking). Instead of gripping the sticks hard at the bottom and using forearm action, she's choking up at the balance point and floating the sticks between her thumb and first two fingers (notice how her pinky and ring fingers barely touch the sticks), flicking her wrists to get that momentum. That's why she constantly looks like her sticks are about to fly away! YET, she is faster on her fills than most drummers I've seen, to the point that I have no idea how she manages to keep such tight control. Frikin Amazing!!

I love this performance. I feel we're very lucky that Band-Maid not only captured and released this concert on blu-ray/dvd just before the shit really hit the fan, but also have done a couple of live streams since. Same for Lovebites with their Five of a Kind release. In fact, whilst practically all of the Western bands that I like have remained silent during these incredibly difficult times, all the Japanese bands I like have been releasing new material and/or performing live streams: B-M, Lovebites, Mary's Blood, Nemophila, Aldious, exist†trace, Gachapin, Unlucky Morpheus, BRATS, just to name a few. So good comments on this song. This song is pretty much their "showcase" song if you will for every performance. They play this song in just about every show and its really just a great moment for the band to have a good time playing with each and performing for the fans, "fan service" if you will but in a Band-Maid style. Now that you've seen this I would recommend tracking down the live version of this song from the 2018 Zepp Tokyo live show. This song always brings tears of joy when I hear it and even more so seeing it live as it just completely exemplifies what this band is all about, having fun, playing music, and just being the most adorable little female badasses in music. The pure joy you see on their faces during this song is intoxicating.

Aaah, there it is :) As much as I love the drum solo (which I can hear like a melody in my head which is actually something I usually associate with Bonham) - what gets me every time is how they re-enter the song from there with the little powerful bridge before the solo. Mindblowing! As a next song I think Blooming MV is a very good choice because there is a lot going on musically (and it's a great song!) and I have a soft spot for Wonderland from the Feb2020 show. Very different, somewhat softer song but also a lot going on and with Saiki's vocals really shining. Also: how much fun are they having on stage!
One of my favorite parts of watching them live is just seeing how happy they are. You can't go wrong with seeing Akane's big goofy smile while ripping an insane solo
Another great reaction Tank! What I love most about these girls is just how much fun they're having on stage, always smiling, always just straight up enjoying what they're doing, and you can't help but smile with them :)
Another great reaction. This is one of the bands favorite songs to play because they get to have fun and actually try to mess each other up by making faces. With all the other intense songs they play this is just outright fun and you can see it on stage.
What I really love about your videos is the "Pop-up video" tidbits of info you throw in along with your commentary; your commitment to informational esoterica and, especially, accuracy in that information (using the pop-ups to correct or confirm your guesses) is simply splendid. You, Sir, are the complete package....I mean, for not being a gorgeous woman, and I don't swing the other way, so yeah, perfect otherwise. :-)
Thanks so much, Tank! Never clicked on a Patreon notification so fast! Just the pure musical skill these ladies have is insane. Already have my Band-Maid Playlist setup for when Star Wars Squadrons comes out. Like you said, just pure rock 'n roll that makes you wanna fly like a demon. As for recommendations: "Puzzle" (either the acoustic version with just Kanami and Saiki or the full band version) does a great job showcasing Saiki's vocals; a bit light of instrumental tone though. "Wonderland" is also fantastic for vocals and really shows off Miku's harmonies with Saiki. But with a heavier instrumental tone.
I’ll be honest, I’m just as excited to hear the background song during the talking intro as I am to see the actual reaction....thought it was ETID at first then realized it was the damned things
Freedom isn’t my favorite band maid song, but the song and this particular performance ALWAYS makes me happy :). I liked your blurb about saiki because for awhile I just took her for granted as being a great vocalist but I found myself caring about the instrument playing. That’s until I saw “wonderland” from the same concert. Please react to that one because while it’s not as heavy, saiki is the Queen!
Tank: I dig on your observations. Your reactions mirror my own. Playing guitar since 1973, I've seen, heard, and tried new things. It's nice to find these gems, gives me hope for the future.
Freedom is a lighter song that is one of the band's favorites. They've inserted various extra intros and bridges into it over the years, including one where Saiki sang the bridge while standing in the crowd and Miku had to sing the entire final verse. Since they use it as a fun fan-engagement song, it gets less lights and pyro stuff, but a lot more of the band moving around the stage screwing with each other, and hyping up the crowd.
Bass is her new Black Cloud Precision SG Private Reserve (PR) for MISA. Black Cloud is a bit mysterious shop with two man operation. Custom only. They are located near Nagoya Japan.
These girls are totally bringing that distinct JRock sound. Really great musicians too. Can't help but going back to some good old X-Japan after hearing this!
In Japanese, music is written as “音楽”(on-gaku) "音(on)" means sound and "楽(gaku)" means fun. BAND MADE,especially Akane's drumming is the embodiment of 音楽.
Misa debuted her black cloud SG on this tour finale date ;) Hopefully its still up somewhere, but you want to hear Saiki as the focus, gotta check her acoustic duet w/Kanami(lead guitar) on Anemone or Puzzle. its like the old school "unplugged"
Freedom gave you the drum solo you were looking for in Onset, hope you enjoyed it. This is jsut a fun song that grows on you the more you hear it. I enjoyed your tank facts and your gear break down of the gear. I would suggest Play (live) or Rinne (MV), both are on their channel for a next reaction. Thanks again tank and have a great one!
When I first saw Band-Maid via this video, I thought "hey, that's pretty good." Then, when the drum solo started, I was like "holy shit, I did not expect that!" So awesome!
I just wanted to say that your reaction videos to band-maid are an absolute blast to watch whenever I get feeling low I know that I can just pull up one of your band-maid reactions and get back into the swing of things!!
Other than the drum solo of this song, the highlight is their friendship and enjoying the live performance. Everyone looks at each other and smiles. Kanami crouches down and stares at Kobato's solo vocals. Akane breaks her face to make her laugh. Kobato is waving his hand to support the drum solo. Good friendship is a great energy.
I read in RUclips comments somewhere that Miku once made a "mistake" singing the lyrics of this passage and Kanami is actually pranking her, crouching in front of Miku's lyrics monitor and forcing her to sing it from memory. But since Miku wrote the lyrics, I suppose she can sing whatever she wants.
I have to back-track and say that upon closer examination that there is no monitor where Kanami is crouching. There is a tablet on a stand between Miku's mic stand and audio monitor. I apologize for my part in contributing to this bit of misinformation.
@@garymerrill4244 Kobato said in an interview that she was surprised to see Kanami staring at her vocal part. If you look closely, you can see that Kobato is nervous as she stares at each other in the first half of the part. Perhaps because of that, Kobato misses the pitch a little at the end of the vocal part.
Same here.... Got a little set of by the softer more mainstream tone of this one, but it has grown on me as i've listened to it. They're so, so great!!
Love to see you check out their songs: Bubble, Thrill and brand new live song No God Someone might've already mentioned it, but that was MISA's new signature bass guitar
El puente entre el solo de batería de Akane y el de guitarra de Kanami es maravilloso... The bridge between Akane's drum solo and Kanami's guitar solo is wonderful ... Greetings from Argentina!
You said you wanted to see her drumming, so we gave you the drums lol. Just keep going on the rabbit hole man. Moratorium and Rinne would be good to visit next time! Appreciate you for helping spread the word on them man, good music should be highlighted no matter where it comes from. Look forward to the next one!
Freedom is definitly not Band-Maid's finest (song wise) ... but it's a song both the band and the audiences loves a lot, because they always have a lot of fun performing it on stage, and you can always expect something different, unexpected and fun. It's a simple rocker, aiming to provide fun between most ambitious tunes.
awesome video this song is great and its awesome that the crowd really gets into on Akane drum solo also how she was having a good time saw her blow saiki a kiss that was cool take care c-ya
I havnt seen comments calling for their song Alone, which was very important for them because thats the song they used to convince their label to let them write their own songs
After watching my first couple Band-Maid videos, I was convinced that Akane was the best drummer I've heard since John Bonham left us more than forty years ago. However, I'm not an expert so I wasn't confident in my opinion. But if Jimmy Page likes her, then I must be right.

As always, a very enjoyable and informative reaction - if you want to stick with the live stuff, try Play, Real Existance, or Wonderland - or their MV's for Blooming, Don't Let Me Down (with it's not-so-innocent lyrics), Rinne, and at some point you definitely have to go back to their 2014 breakout hit "Thrill" - made when they were all in their early 20's, still trying to figure out how to be rock stars, but definitely showing signs of the greatness to come... and if we're all lucky we'll see 2 of their best live performances available once again - Moratorium and Puzzle (also the acoustic version of Puzzle to show a completely different side of the band)
It's not a live track but Blooming is worth a listen. Lots of tonal variation and a killer mid/bridge. As a bonus for you Tank, the gear is easier to pick out. Cheers!
I am pretty sure the lighting is done this way in this song to focus you more on the amount of fun and smiling that is going on during this song that might be lost with a bunch of lasers and stuff going on.
I don't think this song is so good, but for some reason it makes me feel very uplifted when I listen to it live. BAND-MAID is a band with a very good live performance. When I was playing in a small live house, I had a tremendous sense of speed, and when the performance was over, I remember being very tired. Also, at that time, there were many uncles who looked scary, but all of them were good people who helped me when I was in trouble.
Still recommend you do a two-fer: Secret My Lips (MV) then Secret Maiko Lips. But you got to do them in that order.....but as always, really enjoy your reaction and comments.
I introduced my dad and his wife to Band Maid with Freedom so they could see their skill. They were floored. Idea for your next Band-Maid. Want something a little different? Secret Maiko Lips. Id also recommend The Non Fiction Days or Wonderland (must). Anything you choose you will at least love. Ill add something else.. Trident (Junna is the drummer and is also amazing) is another up and coming all female band. They are similar to Band-Maid.
Hey great video Tank! I mentioned in your last Band-Maid video their song Choose Me (Effectively a B-Side with a music video) and their alter ego Band-Maiko, and the song Gioncho which incorporates the Enka style into their sound. If you do react the only thing is that I don’t believe there’s live footage for those songs, but I’d still love to see your reactions to those songs.
Yo man! Thanks for another great BAND-MAID video! Check out Play, it's from their Feb 14 2020 show. Also recommend their MV Blooming from their channel it's a damn good song.
MISA MISA MISA! yup not in my top 25 but a fan and Band favourite they have played this song live the MOST at 138 times next is Real Existence at 118. Both are older songs not written by them (Miku did do the lyrics for Freedom tho)
I really enjoy your reactions! thank you for the gear-informations in your videos, i'm a bass player and very interested in gear, fits perfectly for me :) saw band-maid 3 times in germany. just love them so much and also to see your reaction to their music and videos. thank you!
It’s one of their simpler songs but that allows them to enjoy it 110% because they could probably play it with their eyes closed. It’s their favorite song to perform live (maybe cos it’s easy and they can have more fun?).
So glad to see you react them again. Nice band!! Yeah.. How about they new song "Blooming"(?). It's so fresh to listen and enjoy they skill in this song 🤘
Miku actually went to a vocal school before starting the band. When she got the band together, she realized that she didn't have the rock vocals (power) that she wanted the band to have. After they recruited Saiki to join the band, Akane, the drummer, recommended that since Miku was not going to be the main vocalist, that she should play guitar to give the band a fuller sound. Miku did not play guitar before that. Kanami is her teacher. There are two songs that they have played live (that I am aware of), Time and Rock in Me, where Miku is the only singer, to give Saiki a break. Most people recommended the song Freedom (live) from 2020, since it has the Akane drum solo. My favorite, which is on the 2019 World Domination DVD/BR, has Saiki go into the crowd during the solo, and sing the next verse on the shoulders of fans. It was in a female only section, which were her friends invited by Saiki. After the verse, Miku sings the chorus so Saiki can get back on stage. Unfortunately you cannot view it on YT, as any videos from their released DVD's get taken down. You might catch a FanCam video, but it will be poor quality. If you really dig the band live, I would recommend getting the DVD/BR, as they play special intro/fills between songs, and are different on each tour. They also have different lighting and effects for each tour, which are pretty impressive. There are 3 Live from 2018, 2019, and 2020.

Funny that you say "Freedom" is your "least favorite song" and you "still love it" because I use to say that there is only one song from Band-Maid that I don't like, and I love it! 😅 ("Ai to Jonetsu no Matador") "Freedom" as become one of my fav moments in their shows, it always has this aura of good time, and lot's of interaction between them and the audience. My fav "Freedom" performance however is the on in Zepp Tokyo 2018... there is a lot going on and it culminates with Saiki climbing the fence that holds the crowd and is almost engulfed by hands, there are a couple o road crew guys holding her by her belt so she won't fall while singing the chorus... it's such a epic moment... then she climbs off and we don't see her till the end of the song - Miku Kubato sings Saiki's part and the song that comes right after is "REAL EXISTENCE" (another pearl...it's so good so good so good) and more things happen - Saiki appears barefoot (did she lost her shoes in that climbing?) and in the song she starts a little approach and little dance with MISA (always barefoot) ... this Zepp Tokyo 2018 is also the show where "Onset" was taken from... Anyway, just subscribed your channel and been watching your Band-Maid reactions and really enjoying it, so glad I clicked the button! Keep'em coming! OH, since I'm here writting all this stuff I might as well recommend another one right? So, my recommendation for next Band-Maid song is..... wait for it.... DJAN: "Don't You Tell Me" live at Zepp Tokyo 2018 (and watch the "battle" of MISA vs KANAMI) Cheers!!
Thanks! I needed this today! Just for fun, Kanami has a couple of short vids on Young Guitar's YT page. One is her demoing some gorgeous PRS 35th anniversary guitars (the one with the dragon inlay is my fav) and the other is for some Morley wah pedals.
Ok, let's sloooow a down a bit and do the MV for Daydreaming. They haven't captured the power of it live yet but the song itself is fantastic. It just makes you happy listening to it. Another great reaction Tank! What I love most about these girls is just how much fun they're having on stage, always smiling, always just straight up enjoying what they're doing, and you can't help but smile with them :)
I like how you edit your videos. It's like accessing to your thoughts after a reviewing. More Band Maid please. A lot of fun.
This is Band-Maids favorite song to perform live. The girls have a ton of fun and you can see that.
Another great reaction. This is one of the bands favorite songs to play because they get to have fun and actually try to mess each other up by making faces. With all the other intense songs they play this is just outright fun and you can see it on stage.
And they look like they enjoy it, performing, playing together. Awesome
🤘🤘🤘
Band-Maid and BABYMATAL is the best thing that has happned to Rock/Metal in decades!!!!!
Why anybody else has recommended 'Screaming'?
I think it's one of their heaviest song after RINNE. Amazing song by them!
Nice reaction, dude!
I don't think I've seen anyone recommend "Screaming" yet. Thanks!
@@TankTheTech Such a heavy song, man. There was a live version but it got blocked. The studio version is really impressive.
Thanks for replying!
I’ll be honest, I’m just as excited to hear the background song during the talking intro as I am to see the actual reaction....thought it was ETID at first then realized it was the damned things
I need to see this whole show. It's shot so well and sounds so good, they really captured the energy of a live concert. And I need that right now.
Can't help but going back to some good old X-Japan after hearing this!
ohhhhh finally another bandmaid song... its been over a month ! highly appreciated! ♥
Wonderland showcases Saiki's vocals. Love your vids, I share them when I can.
In Japanese, music is written as “音楽”(on-gaku)
"音(on)" means sound and "楽(gaku)" means fun.
BAND MADE,especially Akane's drumming is the embodiment of 音楽.
I love this band, because of how well they have fun and laugh with each other on stage you don't see that a band enjoying themselves on stage together
Misa debuted her black cloud SG on this tour finale date ;) Hopefully its still up somewhere, but you want to hear Saiki as the focus, gotta check her acoustic duet w/Kanami(lead guitar) on Anemone or Puzzle. its like the old school "unplugged"
Another great reaction to a great band. They play with so much joy and their musical talent is undeniable. Cheers!
Brother, just heard the instrumental "Giovanni"....this will absolutely melt your face off. I have Never heard anything like it. Wow..wow..wow
Love to see you check out their songs: Bubble, Thrill and brand new live song No God
Someone might've already mentioned it, but that was MISA's new signature bass guitar
The chordal and harmonics playing of MISA during the final breakdown is the mark of a jazz pro.
Love that song, thanks for doing another BAND-MAID song, Tank!
This is one of my fav songs from them, and the video they seem to be having a great time and the energy seems to pour out of them.
Akane is the happiest drummer on Earth. She is amazing. The new SG style is bass is also a Black Cloud
Oh fuck ya! They are so amazing! I can’t say enough good things about these amazing women! Keep rockin’ it out! 🤘🏻❤️
Akane's joy when she drums always makes me happy. She truly is a goddess!
It's so obvious how much Akane hates that drum kit.
Hahahaha
In terms of unprovoked attacks on the drum kit, I think nothing beats the time Kanami got too into her solo and axe kicked a cymbal.
Yes Band-MAid !! Great reaction Tank !
That is the biggest thing about this band, you love everything you hear, just some songs more than others,
I love watching their live performances. So damn entertaining and they look so happy playing!
awesome video this song is great and its awesome that the crowd really gets into on Akane drum solo also how she was having a good time saw her blow saiki a kiss that was cool take care c-ya
I havnt seen comments calling for their song Alone, which was very important for them because thats the song they used to convince their label to let them write their own songs
I'm waiting for Play now. Thanks so much for enjoying Freedom.
After watching my first couple Band-Maid videos, I was convinced that Akane was the best drummer I've heard since John Bonham left us more than forty years ago. However, I'm not an expert so I wasn't confident in my opinion. But if Jimmy Page likes her, then I must be right.
Every Band-Maid video, all I want is an isolated MISA-cam.
This one is from November 2018 in Amsterdam´s Melkweg ruclips.net/video/pC8zLNNaQRM/видео.html For more videos from MISA´s side: ruclips.net/video/2BDFic7j45c/видео.html
That Purple PRS was new for this show too, prior she had been using a green one.
5:42 With the little hat 👲 from 2016.
BAND-MAID Rule #1 *You do not talk about the hat*
BAND-MAID Rule #2 *You do not talk about the hat*
BAND-MAID Rule #3 *Follow Rule #1*
Thanks for the instrument maker background info. Very interesting stuff.
Hi Tank!! Outstanding music and perform. I bought the last 2 cd's (Conquer and World Domination) and both are great. My respect to Band-Maid!!!😃🇵🇷
Cheers!
ろけんろー!
しぇきなべいべー
It's a Rock'n'Roll!
Shake it now baby!
Awesome reaction.
Next stop on Japan music tour would be Wagakki Band with "Homura/Akatsuki no ito" live or "Senbonzakura" live. Good fun.
@@A_l_I_n_d I bought mine at CDJapan. I checked, and it shows "no longer available.

Funny that you say "Freedom" is your "least favorite song" and you "still love it" because I use to say that there is only one song from Band-Maid that I don't like, and I love it! 😅 ("Ai to Jonetsu no Matador")
"Freedom" as become one of my fav moments in their shows, it always has this aura of good time, and lot's of interaction between them and the audience.
DJAN: "Don't You Tell Me" live at Zepp Tokyo 2018 (and watch the "battle" of MISA vs KANAMI)
Cheers!!
I've described it as the warm sun against your face on a brisk autumn morning. I have a strong hunch what you will say about it but I'm not going to poison the well here. I can wait for your reaction. :)
