Great video man, very helpful. I don’t have a lift but I went out and bought a shop crane and vender blocks, not sure why it’s so hard for everyone else to suck it up and lay on the ground for a minute but I’m sure I’ll be able to figure it out with little to no excuses. And please, if you don’t have a lift, please don’t get upset with people who do. It takes years of rolling around under the security of cheap Jack stands, doing just about whatever you’re asked, before you can acquire a 2 post. Grow up. Thanks again man
If only I put in the same amount of effort I put into learning this into school.
This teaches you more then school, half the people in school don’t even know how change oil in they car, which is why take 5 and all these other oil service places keep they money coming in
I appreciate the no-nonsense helpful way you made this.
“Basement car builds”. Video starts with car a lift 🤔.
nsboost i mean to be fair the car lift is in my basement lol
@@xpbemythx lmao 👌 💪
Car lift is only saving his back, basically pointless for this procedure in my opinion. Anyone could do it with bare minimum a cherry picker, jack and some stands
@@jameshunt5316 agreed.. still doesn’t take away from MAJORITY of people to do “garage” builds won’t have access to a LIFT in there own damn garage..
I personally would love one.. but most wouldn’t
Mozee feel you there haha I lay on the ground too much 😂 though you never need a lift in my opinion
good video, question where did you bolt on the chain in order to pull out the engine?
Why not drop the car on the discs and unbolt the side engine mounts and drop the engine to the floor the jack up the car? Seems easier than pulling the engine up.
I guess it was a lot easier for you as you had the car hoist, a luxury most people don't have. Nice video though. Thanks
it is nice to have a lift i did it for years in my drive way without one but for $1,500 it’s worth the investment if you do a lot of automotive work
@@xpbemythx a lift only ran you 1500? i thought those things would be at least 5 grand tbh
I got it from greg smith equipment in atlanta which isn’t too far from me so i picked up in person so no shipping costs. They have changed there name to tooltopia and prices have doubled. but if you google greg smith equipment you can still see adds for the lifts for $1495.
i'v remove the engine mount bracket with no impact gun, that was really really Hard 😵 daaaaaaamn
How do you own a car lift but don't have a ball joint separator?
this cracked me up lol
When lifting the engine in the final step with the cherry picker, where do you attach the chain? I see the first spot on the transmission torque mount bolt but where does the other end attach to? I cant tell in the video.
It’s been a while but i believe it was a vacant bolt hole in either the head or the block with a 14mm hex head bolt
Song Is hella annoying but good info video
very informative video
the fricken music kills good videos like this.
Less of that corny music
Why not drop it out of the bottom?
Is this an automatic transmission that you’re removing underneath or a manual transmission?
it’s a manual transmission
@@xpbemythx oh okay. What do you have to do when you’re removing a Civic engine with an automatic transmission?
@@michaellangdonful pretty much the same steps except the shift linkage on the auto is just a cable. you can disconnect it from the shifter inside the car or at the transmission. i usually disconnect it from the shifter inside the car.
@@xpbemythx oh okay. I have a ‘98 Civic LX with an automatic transmission and I’m getting ready to remove my D16Y7 from it and swap in another Y7 with 65,000 miles on it and I was wondering what to do about my automatic transmission. If I had to do anything different than if my car had a manual transmission.
With a lift? Disconnect all coolant lines. Unplug the wiring harness connectors and lay the harness on the firewall. Disconnect the fuel lines. Disconnect the exhaust from the manifold. Disconnect shifter linkage and clutch line. Disconnect the tie rods only. Remove the calipers and bungee them in the wheelwells. Remove power steering lines from rack. Take out all the K frame bolts. Set the car down.
Pull off the left and right motor mounts. Take the 3 nuts off each strut.
Now lift the car up. The front wheels, struts, K frame (subframe, all transverse mount subframes are shaped like a K, they've always been called a K frame but not so much on the RUclips.)
The whole subassembly comes out much easier and faster than trying to separate transmission or motors and other parts. Now you can clean the engine bay, radiator and condenser, perfectly with nothing in the way. Replace all the ridiculous transmission mounts and brackets that are so difficult to reach in the car so easily when the K is on the ground. You can also roll it around anywhere on the two wheels
I've been searching now for 20 minutes and I can't find a single RUclipsr doing it.
Hey man, im planning to swap my d14a4 for a d15z6, so idk if how you describe doing it applies to me, but i was curious, at which step do you disconnect the cv joints? and do you disconnect them completely or leave them sittingin wheel or transmission side? thx in advance!
@@toshiba5784 With a lift you can drop the whole k frame including the tires. You can roll it around on the floor and just pull the motor out of the assembly. Struts will be flopping in the breeze but it's definitely the fastest way.
@@curvs4me hmm okay, i just realised your whole guide was with a lift in mind...i dont have that haha, so, even without a lift, do you recomend to do at least the first few steps in that order? (until clutch line disconnection)
@@toshiba5784 Bro, without something to lift it higher than the top of the struts, pull the engine alone. Undo the lower ball joint so you can pull the trans out enough to remove the input shaft. Trans side CV stays together, motor side unbolt from flange or pull from trans.
What's with the loud music blasts between your low tone voice?? Ouch Jeez!😮
Wd40 from a can is best....
He who's had engine lift but no ball joint fork has priorities fucked up.
Easy when you have a lift 😢
Easiest way to remove…. Step one.. have lift. 😒

Your voice sounds like you would be a country music singer. Music sucks, but otherwise good video
Dude seriously, way to ruin a great video with horrible music, I can’t even hear you half the time.
