If you use a ebay kit replace the parts known to fail. I bought a ebay kit replaced the blow off valve, Waste gate, fuel pressure regulator and boost controller. Ebay turbos are good but you can very easily get a shitty one. My car is built for 500hp on a ebay turbo and intercooler piping. Ive seen multiple cars here make 500whp on Ebay kits.
@@TURBOTRISTO thank you for this informative video! I am definitely not getting a rev9 Kit now! I’ll make my own kit out of proper parts! I might only really get an intercooler kit for the car.
oil coming fromt the front of the turbo is due to the 2nd plate you put on there for the oil line. it needs to have a pin size hole or it will flood the turbo with oil. wastegate needs a fire ring which is why it was open at idle, reason for it not boosting. in my opinion. good video

Without tuning the ecu, what you could do is place larger injectors 85% 100% + flow to run on gasolie and also a pump with a higher flow, disconnecting the vacuum intake from the fuel pressure regulator so that the pressure does not have variations, cold sparks. 10 psi boost stock internals

When I first bought my 97 EJ8 Civic coupe it had a JDM D15B VTEC block with a D16Y7 head (non-VTEC) and it was "running" on a P2P ECU (D16Y8 VTEC manual). I put a D16Z6 head (92-95 1.6L VTEC) on it, an eBay turbo kit, and I used an OBD2A to OBD1 step-down harness, and I used a P28 ECU (92-95 Civic 1.6L VTEC manual) that I socketed and chipped with a Xenocron kit and basemap for my setup. I also ran Mitsubishi Eclipse 440cc bluetop injectors. It was SO much fun to drive and pulled hard enough on 8 psi to beat modified WRXs and Mazdaspeed 3s. Not bad for a car that I had roughly $2000 into. I also had an AEM wideband to monitor air fuel ratios. Oh, and I still own that same car and it currently has a fully built LSVTEC turbo in it and it currently makes 612 whp.

The long pipe going to the air intake is extending the lag by causing the turbo to work more to produce little pressured air. A turbo piped connected to the intake manifold need to short and narrow to induce physical air pressure at low exhaust output. That eBay turbo will perform optimally at high speed and long distance. My opinion. I stand corrected.

I can certainly recomend this kit and doing a turbo conversion but keep in mind this kit still needs to be modified and I would spend my money on a brand name wastegate and some money on better fittings and better external waste gate piping this kit makes the gate shoot flames in the worst possible spot and you will need to take the car to an exhaust shop it will also need good fuel pump and injectors as well as a tune, a stock d16 can handle 12psi all day on its factory internals but a built one like you have will easily hold 20-30psi and be a monster to be safe I would recomend the fuel system and waste gate upgrade and a tune and run about 15psi you and your car will love it
you have to put a check valve inbetween the map sensor and the intake. the oem sensor cannot see boost or it kicks off a liek and will blow the map sensor.
Maybe in the video you should include testing the oil feed line works & priming the turbo (just pulling the oil feed off the turbo and starting the car with the distributor not connected is the easiest way you can check I think?) Something so simple but can take a good away a good chuck of your turbos life if not done correctly :)
yeah I know about this method only really neccissary if its a fresh build with a new oil pump, this method is proven and we know the oil pump works, maybe I should have done it for the camera but i assure you there is oil pressure, the turbo spinning is more because there is no lubricant in it and the bush bearing needs to bed in, it spins like a mofo after a few hours
I could be wrong but don't you have to have the boost controller hooked up to the vacuum port of the wastegate and ran to a vacuum source for it to function? Could be why you had basically no boost. Thanks for the vid either way. Keep up the awesome work.
The waste gate has interchangeable springs that can set the boost to a minimum of 5 or 10psi, I put both springs in to make 15psi minimum boost but still nothing , it turned out I made a mistake by not putting in the fire ring
The MAP sensor read positive pressure and triggered the CEL. FMU and a "missing link" are the only way to run a stock fuel and ecu setup without getting a CEL. Perhaps buy a go autoworks kit, upgrade the fuel system, and get a tune 👍😎👍
I definitely heard it spooling but it did seem to lack RPM for sure. Been wanting to turbo an Impala but the money and work involved specially considering like no one does it makes it more difficult lol.
Seen your car the other day and I just had to say love your build man, sounds really nice in person and definitely has me thinking of doing the turbo swap for abit of fun for myself!
Ok so I'm not a honda guy at all but I love building things that have a potential to be fast so correct me if I'm wrong but the thing that is on top of the exhaust manifold is called a blowout valve right well that seems to me like it is the reason it didn't build much boost I thought bov's were for letting the boost bleed off when you shut the butterfly on the intake side so cap that hole off and add that to the pipe before the throttle body and see if it makes boost
When I install my turbo kit I’m a bit concerned about taking it out to see how it runs as it’s I’ve obviously not got it insured or have road tax while it’s been sat in my garage. Bit worried about getting pulled by a traffic cop with the ANPR cameras...
I have an 04 Civic with a 1.7 SOHC motor. Ive been flirting with the idea of getting one of these kits. Honestly 6 pounds of boost is perfect. I don't want it to be fast. I just want it to be not slow.
Well yeah you could use the turbo and intercooler and blow off valve but the rest of the kit no obviously not, thanks for the comments and thanks for watching though

Love how on the mockup engine he bolts the turbo on backwards .. coming from someone who's owned a 93 eg coupe d16z6 turbo mostly ebay except the 2nd turbo it's on backwards and I had a93 prelude vtec in Britney blue green metallic I also had built and turbo'd that h22 actually came closest deck your best bet is to spend 2k buy a tig welder for 800 US buy the cheapest cast manifold find an audi a6 2.7t turbo and a universal fmic kit and some flanges and for around 2k US u can get a 265whp d16 with rdx 410cc inj. And a used Hondata s300 it may take a week of mock up and fab shit even pulsar has a g2554/28/58 for 549 US now 350 for the used s300 or new crometuned ecu welders 800 manifold and fmic kit is 275 flanges 50/ea. Injectors are 55/ea at parts store so with a brand new balanced billet wheel turbo and components for 2200 US learn how to do some welds and mae some extra money back in the long run
g'day keith, i do agree with you man, not sure if you noticed the kit kinda forces you to run the turbo that way around, if you check my newer videos i have since turboed several d series k series and other car rb30 powered cars and deisel cars ect. the customer was on a budget and wanted me to install the supplied kit

Crazy difference to turbo engine compression. Brand new Subaru 2.0L Turbo engine has a MAX compression of 168psi Im glad mine is only down to 155 psi after 245,000km over 23 years.
Nah mate doesn’t make a difference they don’t prime turbos of any factory cars, let alone a $160 ebay turbo, I’ve never done it and I’ve fitted hundreds of turbos on GTRs/ silvias civics ect
You need a missing link to trick the map to release the boost pressure .. I’ve done a vac Map with check valves chipped gsr ecu and 10psi .. and a Vortech FMU for added fuel under load
I wonder if they used such a big exhaust side on that turbo was to ensure it didn't make much boost/ exhaust flow restriction and blow up? On a 1.6 a T25 would give more boost much sooner I would expect, but at far more risk of engine damage. Personally these days I think I'd just hunt down a nice D16 A8/9 twin cam, and change the cams, exhaust manifold and intake, and add an appropriate chip for a tuned nasp twin cam D16. Those engines are nice for a D-series, 130-135bhp standard and 7200rpm. Should be able to get that to 145-150bhp with much less hassle than properly turbocharging a D16 SOHC for a bit more.
I run a t28 on my personal car if you check it out on the channel its much better and more responsive I agree with your theory thats why i built mine the right way check it out and consider subscribing mate
the stock map can read 10 to 11 psi. once the ecu map has boost tables added then the sensor will read up to that number and then you hit the wall again that you were hitting before. sensor or map limit
So if all the set up is correct let’s say all the piping, no oil leaks and everything installed Right. How do I put only 10 psi with the waste gate spring ? Or how ?

@@alangutierrez7795 you can do this on pump gas but if you have low octane fuel then you need to run low boost
you have to put a check valve inbetween the map sensor and the intake. the oem sensor cannot see boost or it kicks off a liek and will blow the map sensor.
I made a whole video on that exact thing :)
"This is gonna be held up by hopes and dreams.." legit LOL.
Thanks my dude
Finally someone made a video now that Chris fix doesn’t want to show us
thanks man please subscribe i wanna be bigger than chris fix haha
I've been watching a bunch of videos, I'm gonna turbo charge my car next week 😘
Well done man!! I’m glad I inspired you
@@TURBOTRISTO ❤️❤️❤️
@@ronyhyper all the best bro
Yes, turn up the fuel pressure till it dies at idle and back it off a little, it’ll run and make boost, did this back in the day.
That’s awesome Matt
In highschool, wishing to get a civic. Love watching your videos man. I've learned quite alot.
That’s awesome dude civic is a great first car
Sorry meant to write AWESOME
I was gonna do this to my 87 Ranger. Thanks for testing it lol
You are welcome man, you can still do it just order the parts individually
this is the best how to video on youtube
i try hard to make great useful videos
I could be wrong but don't you have to have the boost controller hooked up to the vacuum port of the wastegate and ran to a vacuum source for it to function? Could be why you had basically no boost. Thanks for the vid either way. Keep up the awesome work.
The waste gate has interchangeable springs that can set the boost to a minimum of 5 or 10psi, I put both springs in to make 15psi minimum boost but still nothing , it turned out I made a mistake by not putting in the fire ring
Good to know.
“Hopes and dreams” the definition of Honda Civic
Hahahaha
Im in NZ and i have the 96 lxi hatch with the d16y4 and its got the tacho, good to know wont get an ebay kit
nice bro, thanks for watching my man please subscribe if you haven't already
The MAP sensor read positive pressure and triggered the CEL. FMU and a "missing link" are the only way to run a stock fuel and ecu setup without getting a CEL.
Perhaps buy a go autoworks kit, upgrade the fuel system, and get a tune 👍😎👍
great tips all things i have discovered in the last few years, subscribe and check out my newer videos
I definitely heard it spooling but it did seem to lack RPM for sure. Been wanting to turbo an Impala but the money and work involved specially considering like no one does it makes it more difficult lol.
Sure does man it’s a hard one
Go to a junkyard and get some old supra 550injector with it's connector clip and a 90s accord resistor. It should help getting more fuel.
Nice only issue is we don’t supras in our junk yards ever
Some timestamps would be great! Great content!!!!
Feel free to add some, thanks my man
I read somewhere the needle on the FPR gauge fluctuates once the oil in the gauge heats up.
Yeah someone told me the same
I imagine extractors are the tubular exhaust manifolds known as headers here in the land of freeDUMB.
You are correct man
You need å Y pipe on the wastgate vakum or move vakum hose om top of wastgate
I thought that but after checking the factory specs on the gate I just set it up the way they recommended
@@TURBOTRISTO try azz i say and you got the right boost for the springs i use it om all my turbo cars
Seen your car the other day and I just had to say love your build man, sounds really nice in person and definitely has me thinking of doing the turbo swap for abit of fun for myself!
Appreciate it! where did you see my black sedan ?
that would be cool man
Ok so I'm not a honda guy at all but I love building things that have a potential to be fast so correct me if I'm wrong but the thing that is on top of the exhaust manifold is called a blowout valve right well that seems to me like it is the reason it didn't build much boost I thought bov's were for letting the boost bleed off when you shut the butterfly on the intake side so cap that hole off and add that to the pipe before the throttle body and see if it makes boost
It’s a waste gate and yes that’s why it wasn’t boosting but all fixed in Pt2 check it out
When I install my turbo kit I’m a bit concerned about taking it out to see how it runs as it’s I’ve obviously not got it insured or have road tax while it’s been sat in my garage.

I just want it to be not slow.
yeah man do it 6psi is fine - I am making my own kit for sale soon
@@TURBOTRISTO Really? Thats cool!!!
awesome. would this kit work on a cammed 5.7 v8 ? thanks for any info.
Well yeah you could use the turbo and intercooler and blow off valve but the rest of the kit no obviously not, thanks for the comments and thanks for watching though
This guy has no excitement in face at all no smile or nun lol dude u just put a ebay turbo on an did all kinds of work to make it fit an stoped the leaks come smile a bit that it's driving around an I bet u could feel more power in it give yourself some credit good job 👏 👏 awesome video

Yes. I've been saying the same thing about those kits. Not good, too big. Im going to fabricate my own. Definitely going to go small. Probably a k03. Hopefully I'll keep my ac with my custom kit.
I am working on a custom kit that keeps the air con for future, stay tuned it will be available off the shelf soon

@@TURBOTRISTO haha I'm from trinidad bro, The Caribbean and Australia and New Zealand get and share the same cars, sooo if I could afford that shipping fee no problem but then I'd be better off turboing myself at that point right? 😅
Crazy difference to turbo engine compression.
Brand new Subaru 2.0L Turbo engine has a MAX compression of 168psi
Im glad mine is only down to 155 psi after 245,000km over 23 years.
Yeah you are not wrong ! Thanks for watching
Just wondering, are you not supposed to prime the turbo before running it?
You might have blown the turbo...
Nah mate doesn’t make a difference they don’t prime turbos of any factory cars, let alone a $160 ebay turbo, I’ve never done it and I’ve fitted hundreds of turbos on GTRs/ silvias civics ect
I'm not going to say that what you've done hasn't worked but I've always primed turbos. But also this is a f****** garbage Chinese copy turbo
You need a missing link to trick the map to release the boost pressure .. I’ve done a vac Map with check valves chipped gsr ecu and 10psi .. and a Vortech FMU for added fuel under load
Great idea
@@TURBOTRISTO untuned a b20v I had turbo on 10psi went 12.4s on 22” slicks lol
Car won’t make more psi you need to play with boost controller and the map sensor will only let the car pass a certain psi
Yeah I figured as much
You dint read all the instructions... you are supposed to redline the engine so that everything starts working lol . Great video you answered a lot
Thanks brother I appreciate it
I wonder if they used such a big exhaust side on that turbo was to ensure it didn't make much boost/ exhaust flow restriction and blow up?
You Mount the cooler on the fins on the ends and drill them for bracket on each side.
I sure did bro
Don't know how I ended up here but this sh is lit 🔥 keep up the good work and don't forget the ones that will be here wen you get million subscribers
Thanks Juan you the man!
the stock map can read 10 to 11 psi. once the ecu map has boost tables added then the sensor will read up to that number and then you hit the wall again that you were hitting before. sensor or map limit
Thanks man I’ll remember for next time
So if all the set up is correct let’s say all the piping, no oil leaks and everything installed
Right. How do I put only 10 psi with the waste gate spring ? Or how ?
@@alangutierrez7795 you can control the boost either with the wastegate spring or you can use a boost controller
The gauge u used for the psi show less then actual psi i had the same one
oh really yeah i think the quality is no good on most of these parts
I have a glow shift and the lower the boost the less accurate. It gets accurate past 5psi.

@@FroztiProductions it sure does my whole build is eBay check out my car and other videos on the channel there are heaps of triumphs and heaps of fails
The reason the check light comes on is because the ECU is programmed to throw a code if it detects even 1 PSI of positive pressure. stock Honda Map sensors can handle around 11 PSI from memory if the ECU is tuned and 8 is the generally accepted number for boost level on a stock engine...
Yeah I learnt that 😁
